Everyone knows that racing game fanatics love tearing up the road with the vehicles we use in game. Not only do we want to win at whatever game mode it is, we want to look cool doing it. What better way then to see these moments on the replay after a said race right? Well the past couple of years we've seen a huge drought in any sort of replay function in some of our favorite racing franchises or new ones. What's the cause of such an absence? and are racing replays gone for good?

"I would suggest that, in fact there appears to be a total lack of strategy behind Microsoft’s pricing arrangement for the Games on Demand service, though it would be foolish to do so. You and I are both fully aware that this is just the first piece of a new digital distribution puzzle for the console manufacturer, and one that’s very likely to receive a lot of attention from both the media and consumers. It’s the fact that Microsoft have decided to do as Electronic Theatre initially suggested..."
"Criterion has been very nice to Burnout Paradise owners. So nice, that they continue to actively support and interact with their community, even a year and a half after the game’s initial release. Big Surf Island is just the latest in the deluge of content Criterion has set forth. Being the first DLC to bring with it new territory, a lot of pressure has been placed on Big Surf Island to perform."
"Big Surf Island gives gamers a new way to experience Burnout Paradise. This stunt driven island will have you catching huge air, hitting multiple barrel rolls and doing things you’ve never been able to do before. The new content offers a brand new island set across from Paradise City and includes 15 new events, 12 new Roads to Rule, 75 Island Smashes, 45 Island Billboards to crash through, 15 Island Mega Jumps to hit, 10 new Freeburn Challegnes, 12 new night and day Bike Road Rules and 9 bran..."
""Burnout Paradise has received several DLC packs, ranging from bikes to new game modes, but nothing that Criterion Games has released comes close to their newest DLC Big Surf Island. This new DLC is a completely new area to explore with 9 new cars, 15 new events, 45 new billboards to smash, 75 new gates to drive through and a new Burnout license to work towards. This isn’t just a new environment to explore but a whole new experience for Burnout fans.""
""That's proof that you're not the best," technical director Richard Parr told Eurogamer's Digital Foundry channel. "It means you're out of ideas."
"You always find new ways to do things, the constraints lift. Not just with a new console generation but with every game you do," senior engineer Alex Fry added. "Whether it's a sequel or whether it's a new game, you learn to do things differently... better. The constraints go away because you learn. While it's nice to say you've maxed something..."

Sorry I can't embed this video. Just click 'Go to source' and see Jimmy acting like a little kid with a new toy going nuts seeing and playing with Natal. They try out a Breakout style game called Ricochet and then jump into Burnout Paradise (to show the controls on a regular game that wouldn't need the Natal controls). The last guy who steps up to the Ricochet game kills it, showing the controls do work if the player is good enough. I am no fan of Fallon, but kudos to him for bringing thi...
"Burnout Paradise Big Surf Island is a brand new playground that enhances and expands the world of the award-winning driving game, Burnout Paradise. The suggested highlights include challenges and events for groups of friends to play online, a new world to discover, the biggest and wildest jumps yet seen in the game and a set of nine new vehicles to experience it all in."

"Following Electronic Theatre’s unveiling of the brand new European Xbox 360 Arcade Bundle yesterday, we can today bring you details of a another brand new Limited Edition Xbox 360 Bundle arriving on UK shop shelves very soon indeed."
The Ready-Up team have finally set a new world gaming record for the longest run playing a racing game. They did it for 24 hours at the Esc Gaming centre, for the fun of it and for the GamesAid charity. They used Burnout Paradise and used the Jasper Xbox 360 consoles to play the game.
This week PC owners get the lovely Burnout Paradise while Wii owners receive Rygar: The Battle of Argus and Tenchu: Shadow Assassins. Five year old DS owners get Jojo's Fashion Show and Petz Horseshoe Ranch while the big manly men see Atlus' breath-of-fresh-air-RPG My World My Way.
Stay tuned for the coming weeks...F.E.A.R. 2, Killzone 2, and Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad/Bikini Zombie Slayers are all on the way.
Chris Plante provides this hand on preview of the latest DLC for Burnout Paradise, Burnout Party. He's convinced me that Burnout Paradise was an underrated gem of last year, in that it was one of the only titles to he constantly played since its release. After thinking about it for a moment, was true for me too - does Burnout still get love from your consoles?
Back In November we learned that Criterion was giving delivering us the Jansen 88 Special(aka back to the future hover car). Now there's video of the car in action, take a look at it. Boy, does this bring back fond childish memories. ^_^
A nice quick and to the point write up from Primotech that includes all the winners from the show on top of some random news blips (such as Pearl Jam's full album Ten coming to Rock Band, Brutal Legend confirmed for 2009, GTAIV DLC trailer, Gears 2 maps coming, Fight Night Round 4 coming 2009). See quote for full list of winners, go to source to see some more news from the event.

Right, the hover cars announcement last week was awesome, and it looks like Criterions not finsihed yet- They've announced one more DLC pack, the toy cars!
The Monster Truck looks great.
And this is only week 3, lets see what the next 3 weeks bring out!
"That reality is that Senator Obama may have questionable views when it comes to video games. One of his opponents during primary season was the infamous Hillary Clinton, another Democrat who has done everything in her power to block games such as GTA IV and Manhunt from ever seeing the light of day.
Gamers seem to also have forgotten that the same man also generalized them all as underachievers."
"Fill the gauge and hit boost to trigger burning flame trails from your back wheels. The 88 Special’s fast, manoeuvrable and great in the air.
In fact, if you want to take off, this is just the car for you. Hit L3 to switch to hover mode – the wheels retract and the car takes off and hovers through Paradise City at head height.
Seriously. It hovers."
"So, today we're announcing Burnout™ Paradise: The Ultimate Box – a new packaged game for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and for the first time ever – on the PC! That's right, PC players will finally be able to experience a Burnout game, and we've been working hard to make sure it's something very special indeed.
The Ultimate Box will be available in Feb 2009 and will contain the original Burnout Paradise, including Codenamed Cagney and Burnout Bikes, and also Burnout Paradise Party plus a mounta..."
Those Obama ads seen in Burnout Paradise seem to be proven real.
They only appear in the Xbox 360 version of the game however - sorry PS3 owners.
MTV Multiplayer has detailed exactly where you can see them (with a map!)
A kid with the name of Dragunov played Burnout Paradise just this week and made a screen shot of what he had seen in his game. What he saw was Obama posing in a billboard in the game. Somebody asked, "What's wrong with posting ads in video games? After all, Obama's been courting the youth."
I kept on wondering about the odds of this act but yeah, what's wrong anyway?
Guys remember a few weeks ago when Criterion stated that Burnout Paradise will make its way on the PSN to buy? Well its now official, it will be released on the PSN this Thursday. So for all you people who didn't get a chance to buy the disc version months ago or still don't have it, this is your chance to get one of the best multiplatform titles on the market right now.
And to the surprise with this Criterion stated " A pack delivering PS3 Trophy Support will be released imminently and i...
At the end of each DLC week, Videogamer gives their opinion on which system delivered the best content. This week, the PS3 got a NBA Live 09 demo, to go long with Rock Band songs.
Xbox Live got Destroy All Humans!, a Gears of War 2 trailer, and bikes added to Burnout Paradise. Last and least, the Wii only got three things: All VC games, with Sonic the Hedgehog leading the way.
So who won the DLC war? Hit the source to find out.
Whether your a long time Burnout fan or just a gamer interested in a possible purchase get ready for the latest update to Burnout: Paradise which be released 9:00 A.M. GMT. With the inclusion of bikes and a new weather/day-night cycle and a whole lot more this is touted as the best update yet. Start revving those engines!
The Bikes pack, freely downloadable by the way, hits this week and marks the first time bikes have been included in the series. There's nothing like having your knees in the wind as you head down the highway.
Many people have been waiting a very long time for this update and it seems it is finally here. Burnout Paradise will be patched with bikes on the 18th September 2008. In preperation for the update the official Playstation blog have also given us four new screenshots for the game featuring just that - motorbikes.
If you guys didn't already know, Burnout Paradise shall be releasing some new content that will feature bikes, the first time ever in the Burnout series!
Similar to the cars, you will be able to create and upgrade your license. In addition, there will be a day and night system,as well as 70 different FreeBurn challenges online designed just for the bikes!
The content will be hitting the PS3 and 360 sometime this Fall.
"Havent bought Burnout: Paradise yet? Have a Playstation 3, an internet connection, and $29.99 youre willing to part with? Try to hold on to them until a to-be-determined date in the Fall, when Burnout: Paradise in its entirety will be available for download.
And when we say in its entirety, we mean it. Its reportedly going to come with all the updates pre-loaded. Those of us whove owned Playstation 3 for a length of time are aware of how painfully annoying update after update can be, e..."
"Users at the Criterion Forums have finally confirmed the release of the Burnout Paradise: Cagney Update for the Xbox 360. Many (including me) thought the update would come at 12:00 GMT, since it wasnt released as planned initially, but they did stick to their 9:00am deadline like the PS3 update. It was initially set for release alongside its PS3 counterpart about 2 weeks ago, but Microsoft were quick to pull it off the Xbox LIVE system because of a discovered security problem. Yet more Trophies coming to a game near you soon.
Designer Simon Phipps at Criterion game posted on the Official Boards last night announcing Trophies coming to Burnout soon.
Simon isn't one to shy away from answering comments posted on the boards and he was extremely helpful and willing to clear things up for people. The main story that the source links to is only have the info. The good stuff can be read in the comments.

Simon Phipps has shown his love for the Cagney update. He's also said that Criterion is calling 2008 "The year of Paradise". Which goes in hand with the fact that they're trying to bring many new features of Downloaded content to Burnout Paradise to keep it fresh and exciting.
Aside from this Simon states that the site is also getting worked on with posting more and more info about the Dev's, as well as Audio and Video podcast which will help you get to know the developers and the Cagney ...
"Last night, in celebration of the first ever 24 Hours in Paradise session, we pointed our webcam towards something special: an in-development version of Burnout Paradise showing Paradise City going through its day-night cycle - a feature that will be coming to the game in August 2008 in the Davis update.
As many guessed, this was a special version of the game that we locked to the real-time clock so that everyone playing through the night could see the time of day change in Paradise City a..."
Criterion certainly don't just release a game and then call it quits, two updates have already been released and another one is planned in August but this one coming out on July the 10th is touted as the biggest yet.

Players of the console version should not worry about missing out since Bikes will be added to their versions via the first in many of the Davis Update.
"In a presentation to industry analysts today, EA Games president Frank Gibeau revealed that the two series would "see extension" in the publisher's fiscal year 2009, which runs from this April through March of 2009. Gibeau didn't specify whether the extensions would come in the form of proper sequels, side products (such as Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator), or some other form.
In contrast to Burnout, Skate is a relatively new property. The series debuted last September as part of EA..."

Criterion Games have also announced that a fix is imminent for the frame rate issues caused by the Xbox 360's earlier released patch. In the meantime the game will downgraded once players connect to Xbox Live.
Burnout Paradise will be receiving the "Hunter Olympus" in June's "Cagney" update, the first Burnout vehicle to come without a boost option. Not that it should be a problem, though, with the Olympus' seriously bulky frame and solid exterior.
Burnout Paradise's "Cagney" update will be made available for free to both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners this June.
Criterion Games have revealed a new home menu that will be included with the upcoming "Cagney" update of Burnout Paradise, currently scheduled for the end of June.

Uh oh, looks like there's trouble in Paradise! After releasing the Xbox 360 version of the Burnout Paradise 1.2 patch a few days early, Criterion Games have revealed that it may cause frame rate issues for certain machines. Expect a quick fix to come crashing over Xbox Live soon.
The second patch for Burnout Paradise, codenamed "Bogart", has been released a few days earlier than expected for Xbox 360 owners. Players will be notified of the patch upon game boot. Updating takes around thirty seconds and is required for online play.
That's right folks, Criterion Games have officially announced that they will be bringing custom soundtracks as part of their next software update for thier PS3 game Burnout Paradise. It also couldn't be even simpler to use the custom soundtrack.
Now this will be the first game on the PS3 to support custom soundtrack, and it's likely that more will follow suit.
Burnout Paradise has a pretty awesome online component, with tens of thousands of people playing at any given time. But it's about to get better with the immanent release of Criterion's new patch, which will allow for gametypes Road Rage, Marked Man and Stunt Run all to be played online. Criterion also confirms more game modes to be added in future updates
Criterion Games have today announced that the 1.2 patch (aka: Bogart) for Burnout Paradise will be available to download on April 24. This update is said to be fixing problems that have been reported by users from the PS3 version crashing when a player is taken down to Enhancing the 360's streaming performance. They are also looking in adding new addition gaming features as well as fixing new bugs in the game.
The Criterion developers must be happy, because just recently; Burnout Paradise has sold over 1,000,000 copies. Whether or not you liked the gameplay changes that were introduced (such as free roam!), this is excellent news. Why? This seems to almost guarantee a sequel. This will give the Criterion developers a chance to make the shine on their game even shinier. Now not only did Burnout Paradise sell over 1,000,000 copies; this put the Burnout series as a whole to selling over 15,000,000 cop...

A first in the many to come, Criterion will be releasing new islands. Alex informs us that these islands will be free to download
Whilst the title of the article says The cold, hard truth, I honestly can't believe it's the truth, someone's opinion yes, but no the truth; don't get me wrong, it could very well be correct, however I can guarantee that not everyone will see eye to eye with his views, and in some cases his experiance will vary to that of others, thus making his truth nothing more than his version of how he found the games, however that doesn't make this article any less of an interesting read, especially for...
EA has commented on the titles listed in the attached image, stating that the list "addresses future and past titles. KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio but do not specifically address future sequels"
Games like Burnout and Skate have been revealed to be receiving sequels though, so not all hope is lost.
Full quote and more info at the source.
"Electronic Arts' open-world racing game Burnout Paradise still has that new-car smell, and the broken bones of Skate have barely had time to knit, but the publisher is already looking ahead to the next installments in those franchises.

As they say, going cheap does not pay. Games like Burnout Paradise is showing gamers that the cheap hard drive-less 360 Arcade is definitely not the way to go. And now, Criterion explains lack of full online support for the 360 Arcade, at there official website.
Well, we're already almost a few weeks into 2008, and we've experienced the January slump; it's a hangover from the holiday season, and a teaser for a stocked and loaded February and March. However, that's not to say that there aren't quality games coming out in January. What games are you gonna get that are coming out this week?
Notable games this week:
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS)
Burnout: Paradise (360, PS3)
Endless Ocean (Wii)
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)

"Developer Criterion promises the next instalment's sunny island will be both brimming with things to do behind the wheel and incredibly accessible to any type of gamer (it's got no loading and no front-end whatsoever). Oh yeah, there's lots of crashing as well. But we don't want to talk about that."
"Hello everyone. When we last spoke, I posted some ads for PS3 third-party heavy hitters Assassins Creed and Call of Duty 4. Well, as promised, we have more up our sleeves and have a couple more spots to debut for you all before they officially air the week of November 19th.
Weve brought back the same pulsating music track (Salivas Ladies and Gentlemen) from our PS3 brand spots and feature games from our 3rd party friends like Burnout Paradise, WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008, Madden NFL 08,..."

For those of you who are up to date with the latest happenings concerning Burnout Paradise, you would have heard that there will be downloadable content for the game available in the future. If you expected it to be just small things like new cars or skins, you are sorely wrong. The new Burnout Paradise will be able to download new neighborhoods into game as a whole and grow into a bigger environment with time.
"Holy crap the muscle cars in Burnout Paradise are loud."
That's the first thing that popped to mind when Criterion's Alex Ward fired up the E3 build of his team's latest racer for the first time. Ward followed the boot-up with an entertaining and humorous speech about how important it was for his team to build Paradise from the ground up (rather than use an existing engine), but as the engines continued to rev as we waited for our demo, I couldn't shake how realistic and powerful the vehic..."
"Destruction will once again rein king with cars literally able to be torn in two upon heavy impact. Each street will be designated with a name and stats will let players know where the most dangerous spots are located. "For some time now, the latest title in Criterion Games and EA's high-octane racing series has had the tentative title of Burnout 5. As Burnout Revenge proved, the developer apparently doesn't like to use numerals in titles anymore, and so it is announcing today the official title for the fifth game in the franchise is Burnout Paradise.
A new trailer and a handful of screenshots accompany the press release, which gives little info other than the official title and that it's scheduled for re..."
GamePro has the exclusive first look at Criterion's Burnout 5 (working title), due out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall.
Burnout 5 will allow players to play how they want, when they want, anywhere in the city. "We want one thing to lead to another," Ward told GP. "A race could become a Road Rage, which could then become a Pursuit, and then in the middle of that [the player] could get taken down and start flying through the air." From there, you could decide to record the episod...
