The Call of Duty video game series has changed the way people think about the entertainment business. Avatar made $232 million globally in its first five days of release. Call Of Duty: Black Ops made $650 million. An infographic on GNVR gives us an visual look full of details showing us just how big the Call of Duty video game franchise really is.

"There’s something about certain games that naturally draw me in. This is considerably easier with any sort of RPG that involves decisions and progression that allow you to influence not only your character, but the actual game itself. I’ve spent so much time with these games because I’m able to make the character my own, affect the environment, and play the game almost exactly how I want to play it."

"Gamers are finding it exceedingly difficult to invest in multiple games throughout the year due to financial constraints. As a result of that, gamers are directing their spending power to a limited number of games, or rather franchises."

"COD is a bit of a fishy beast. In theory, a game that remains the same year in, year out with only minimal upgrades and some new levels shouldn’t do well. It should probably be instead a fond memory, drifting in the breeze and whispered only in passing by those who still recall the good times they had with the product. The exact same thing recently happened with Guitar Hero; after years of stagnant gameplay that did absolutely nothing to innovate, the franchise itself has been put indefinitel..."

"I thought this appropriate after hearing the release numbers for the latest game in the series (Black Ops). Hearing that it had the biggest release day, beating Modern Warfare 2, and also had the most money spent on it for development, I expected…more."

"The Spanish Civil War arrives on Call of Duty 2 thanks to this new mod: 1936-1939: The Spanish Civil War.

This mod is a single player experience which is a sequel to the multiplayer version of 1936 Spain in Flames. You will be able to revive the war through 24 missions recreating the most important scenes of the Civil War."

Here are two videos showing some of the best and worst FPS' ever released. Not all of your favourites will be in there but I had a laugh watching some footage of the worst games ever. It beggars belief how some of these games ever got released.

Check out these two youtube videos of some of the best and worst FPS' out there. It doesn't include all of them but the "worst" video is definitely worth a look, some hilariously bad games in there such as Rogue Warrior and Extreme Paint Brawl.

Activision has confirmed that there will be a new Call of Duty game coming out before the end of this year in their latest quarterly financial briefing.

"Modern Warfare 2 has been unleashed and has resulted in mass hysteria at retailers around the globe. Being Call of Duty, it’s only natural that such hype should be sustained by a brand name alone. But how long can Activision annually release the same series before their work reaches the predictability of other industry juggernauts such as Madden and Guitar Hero?"

"I would suggest that, in fact there appears to be a total lack of strategy behind Microsoft’s pricing arrangement for the Games on Demand service, though it would be foolish to do so. You and I are both fully aware that this is just the first piece of a new digital distribution puzzle for the console manufacturer, and one that’s very likely to receive a lot of attention from both the media and consumers. It’s the fact that Microsoft have decided to do as Electronic Theatre initially suggested..."

"It's safe to say August 12th 2009 will go down in the Avatar history books (albeit teeny tiny history books), but it will also be a landmark day for gamers with the introduction of a brand new way to access and play your Xbox 360 games: Games on Demand. Launching worldwide with a library of great titles"

"“We don’t look much at Western RPGs,” said Kitase. “But, for instance, we really look at Call Of Duty and other Western FPSs in terms of how to immerse the player in the moment of the action and how to portray the right movements for the supporting characters in battles – those sorts of games do this really well, and it’s something we considered with FFXIII.”"

"In regards to subsequent titles after MW2, it appears that Treyarch’s next stab at the franchise may center on the Vietnam War with possible espionage missions based on The Cold War era, and I have previously suggested that Future Warfare would be received well, should it be the decided direction when the series inevitably shifts gears again.

But what about the Civil War? Would this be a viable course for the franchise at some point in the future?"

NBS dusts off Call of Duty 2 and pulls the game out of retirement to see how it stacks up today in comparison to the more recent releases in the series, CoD 4: Modern Warfare and CoD: World at War.

In recent reports you may have read that Infinity Ward were possibly going to become the sole Call of Duty developers. Well Activision today have come out and rubbished these reports and said Treyarch are still going to be producing future Call of Duty games alternately whilst Infinity Ward make theres.

Singleplayer is awesome, sure multiplayer can be good but its that story driven action packed campaign that we hunger for. Here is a list of the top 10 FPS singleplayer games.
