This week, Black Ops 2 takes us back to the futu...
Default Prime writer Kyree Leary has been out of the First Person Shooter genre for a while; his last big shooter that he had fun with being Modern Warfare 2. But in light of the information surrounding Treyarch's Black Ops II, he might have to come back from his hiatus.
"Have you ever been in the situation as a child where you would consider yourself to be best at something and convinced that no one else could possibly best you at that thing? Then one day, a new guy shows up and blows everything out of the water and you are left there trying to do everything you possibly can to get people to look at you again? Well, it all wreaks true with this new Call of Duty trailer."
The future is unsettling and Black Ops 2 looks to capitalize on that with a different take on the Cold War. With all the advanced tech seen in the trailer, Leviathyn.com's Jonathan Posch tries to make sense of everything and see possibilities.
"Treyarch bossman Mark Lamia told us the team’s “really blowing it out on that front”, hinting at unrevealed new modes. “If you like zombies, you’re going to be really happy with what we’re doing with Black Ops 2. It’s our biggest, most ambitious zombies effort ever,” he added to Activision community manager Dan Amrich."
With the announcement of The Elder Scrolls Online today, Leviathyn.com's Ron Hoffecker lists some other gaming franchises that are primed for an MMO. No WoW clones here, though. Every game on the list would be completely different from each other.
With info about Black Ops 2's Zombie mode surfacing, Leviathyn.com's Dean Martin takes a look at some possibilities that may make it into this year's Call of Duty. Will we see some real changes or just implementation of MW3's systems?
Nothing quite like a bit of 'friendly' competition, eh? EA's global product manager Kevin O'Leary has recently written on his Twitter account "Poor [Black Ops II], you look tired, you should take a year off and rest," after the trailer was released. I don't know about you lot, but I'm #TeamO'Leary.
"Pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops II began yesterday, as reported by Electronic Theatre. Today, the retailer Amazon.co.uk has announced that the second instalment of the Call of Duty: Black Ops series has achieved more than three times the orders received for 2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops in the first twenty four hours."

"The teaser trailer for this year’s installment in the annual Call of Duty series came out today and it has a few surprises, notably that instead of being a gritty Cold War tale, it will be about cowboys fighting robots. At least in part."
"I spent a day with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 last week. After Treyarch’s presentation, I borrowed a breaching charge from the studio’s kitchen (the place is lousy with C4) to blast open the office door of its studio head, Mark Lamia. Entering in slow-mo with Inquiry Guns akimbo, I complimented Mark on the presidential red rotary telephone on his desk. Through a fog of drywall dust and poisonous florescent lightblub particulate, my interrogation began."
With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's trailer, some interesting news involving the game are revealed. All ranging from new game modes, the time-frame, a branching story, and much, much more.

"Here are the first images of the Quadrotor in-game. It’s unclear what stage of development Black Ops 2 was in when the images were taken, but it seems it was in the early stages. It’s possible that the quadrotor was rendered in MW3′s engine for the special effects firm to model the real life version after it."
Mike D is a big fan of both video games and music. We all know games feature some amazing soundtracks, but often the credit goes to great original scores or awesome orchestrated pieces. What about amazing licensed music used perfectly in games?
It looks just like any other Call of Duty case so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the legitimate pre-order edition box art for the upcoming Black Ops 2. Take a quick glance for yourselves.

Leviathyn.com's Stephen Daly asks, "If you look back at E3 over the last few years how many genuine surprises have there been? How many games has no one known anything about in advance?" Are companies killing the reason we used to get hyped for E3?
An image of a retailer poster appeared online today (via Kotaku), depicting some pretty solid proof that the next Call of Duty title may indeed be Black Ops 2. Check out the image and more speculation in the full article on Game Freaks 365.
I really don't mean to be a Call of Duty nazi today, these articles are just falling down today!
I don't think it will decline but I can imagine it not making as much profit as it has done with previous releases. The problem is, they release too many of the games with very few changes, demanding people to spend a heap load of money on DLC as well during the year. Feel free to voice your opinions.
In many respects, what he says is right. If you want to release a game that isn't a first person shooter in the 21st century, forget about anything other than trying to break-even in a market that is highly surrounded by games like Call of Duty and other big first person shooter names.

Black Ops was a resounding success for Activision no matter how you look at the sales, but a lot of the Modern Warfare 2 fans were not so sure about it.
When Modern Warfare 3 came out the multiplayer offering was widely accepted as nothing short of amazing. Well I’m here to discuss why Black Ops actually had a better multiplayer component."
Gameblog, a gaming website from France, managed to get themselves blacklisted...or so they say. How did that happen? Reporting on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 when Activision asked them not to. The report itself came out due to a Amazon goof that listed the game for 69.99 Euros before they were supposed to. In the end, Activision has said that they don't blacklist journalist and that it was all just a misunderstanding.

It seems every game these days has some sort of MMO like leveling. Everything from FPS games such as Modern Warfare 3 to racing games like Blur, its incentive to keep gamers hooked and for the developer to make money. The question is, do games actually need it? What happened to FPS multiplayer matches that were just for fun and not to pad stats? Will this trend continue into the next generation

"There’s something about certain games that naturally draw me in. This is considerably easier with any sort of RPG that involves decisions and progression that allow you to influence not only your character, but the actual game itself. I’ve spent so much time with these games because I’m able to make the character my own, affect the environment, and play the game almost exactly how I want to play it."

"Battlefield, Halo, Killzone and Resistance are all class acts, but sales and quality indicate that the undisputed king of first person shooter franchises is undoubtedly Activision's Call of Duty. Yes, it is almost at that heavy release season when the big hitters of the years game crop start to roll around, and yes there is a small title named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 that happens to fit snugly into that category. Because Console Domination is awesome (and so is Activision and Call of D..."

"PushStartSelect: "FPS titles have become the hottest selling item over recent years. The craze started back when ID made Doom, a game that would make you turn and bob your head because things were literally flying right at you. Of course the horror aspect made it all the more awesome, but the genre has changed and expanded into all sorts of formulas. We still have the horror titles like Fear, Doom, and even Quake, but the genre is now lead by the blockbusters of Call of Duty or Battlefield. A..."
"It's been a long-running complaint that games are too expensive. With literal metric boatloads of games coming out every month, and at a $60 price tag, it's not an invalid complaint, either. In just this October, it'd be easy to break $200 on just the more anticipated games, if you were going all console-releases. It'd be even more than that if you wanted to pick up games that could be considered “major releases.” That's a lot of money, yo."
"Have you ever been playing a game online and just wanted to reach through the screen and choke your opponent until their larynx broke and they would never be able to call you a noob ever again? Well, a 46 year old man in Plymouth, Devon (UK) did just that. Mark Bradford has been arrested for strangling a 13 year old boy after the boy taunted him during a session of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The details get even more interesting after the jump."

"Maybe it’s a sign of the times, or maybe it’s a sign that DLC has become way too expensive, but last week a hacker got access to my Xbox Live Account to purchase 6000 Microsoft Points, and then used those points to buy two Black Ops Map Packs. I happened to be playing Black Ops at the time, so I was able to catch them before they purchased more, but in the span of 15 minutes, they charged $75 to my credit card."

MP1st Co-Founder Fahed speaks out on the current state of video game reviews. 'Day-one' or 'static' reviews don't do justice for multiplayer centric games like Call of Duty or Battlefield. A new, more 'dynamic' approach must be adopted in order to be fair to gamers and developers alike.
"Call of Duty XP (to celebrate the upcoming release of Modern Warfare 3 maybe) has come and gone, and for a first time event focusing on a big game franchise, Activision really hit this one out of the park. The company spared no expense in making sure its attendees had a swell time doing a number of things, mainly playing Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer but also taking part in other activities (lots of physical activities); we list the best reasons, and leave off some of the bad ones after the ..."
"Treyarch, the “other” developers of the Call of Duty franchise, have had a problem with how people perceive them; that problem being summed up in four words: they’re not Infinity Ward. Despite the fact that Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops went on to become one of the best-selling games of all time, gamers still look down on Treyarch for not being the ones who created the Modern Warfare franchise. Regardless of how you view Treyarch, you have to give them credit for adding one very popular ..."
"Gamers are finding it exceedingly difficult to invest in multiple games throughout the year due to financial constraints. As a result of that, gamers are directing their spending power to a limited number of games, or rather franchises."
"James C. Burns plays the rough and tough Sgt. Frank Woods in the mega-hit game Call of Duty: Black Ops. Burns, who has had lots of experience in the entertainment industry, experienced voice acting in a video game for the first time in CoD. He has an impressive resume as he has had reoccurring roles on the successful General Hospital, Proof of Innocence, among others. He has also seen success in theatre and on the big screen, having a role in Michael Bay’s Transformers."
Some new downloadable content, an all-zombies map pack called Rezurrection, was released for Call of Duty: Black Ops today on Xbox 360. The new DLC features remakes of four old Zombies levels as well as one brand new level called Moon.
"This trailer, released in anticipation for the release of the Rezurrection DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops, raises a few questions. Why would you think it's a good idea to get even closer to an exploding zombie? Why would you lock the door when you're in a room with a zombie? I mean, I imagine that it's for comedic effect. But, Activision sirs, I demand realism in my zombie examinations, okay?"

"COD is a bit of a fishy beast. In theory, a game that remains the same year in, year out with only minimal upgrades and some new levels shouldn’t do well. It should probably be instead a fond memory, drifting in the breeze and whispered only in passing by those who still recall the good times they had with the product. The exact same thing recently happened with Guitar Hero; after years of stagnant gameplay that did absolutely nothing to innovate, the franchise itself has been put indefinitel..."

With my thoughts never far from the games of my youth, a lively conversation with some friends at gamerdads got me to thinking. How would a game like Call of Duty: Black Ops play if it shared some of the game play mechanics of the old classics. Also, would todays market be interested?
You can put this one down in the obvious folder. A new stud has come out that shows those who devote their free time to video games are far less likely to have success. The actual numbers may just shock you though.
Someone over at Activision is going to be very angry. Someone mistakenly released the details on when the next Call of Duty map pack will be released. Check out the full post for all of the details on what we know.

"With a plethora of exclusive titles set to launch on the PlayStation 3 later this year, fans of Sony’s console are quick to assume that the Blu-ray enabled powerhouse will surpass the 360 by year’s end; let me tell you why they are oh so wrong. I am so confident that I'm willing to be my very own pet giraffe against any Sony fanboy who thinks otherwise. While only a fool would deny the fact that Sony has quite an impressive lineup of first party titles – namely Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 and I..."

"I have been seeing a fair amount of moaning regarding the winner of the BAFTA Video Games Awards - Best Game this year, Mass Effect 2. The complaints revolve around the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops won the GAME award, the only award voted by the public, yet failed to get so much as a nomination from the BAFTA judges for Best Game."
Treyarch doesn't want to loose the competition and claims they still in. After having declared Infinity Ward wasn't working on a "new engine", Treyarch wanted to calm down the situation saying they are working on an improved version of the engine.
This post presents the very last news about the upcoming Engine: Cry Engine 3, Unreal Engine 3.975, Frostbite 2. It's now your turn to consider which is the best engine according to you and according to the very last demonstration of these engines.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops is a game that has become the new standard for gameplay commentaries on YouTube it seems. Many of these commentaries focus on the game itself, but perhaps even more interesting, some of the commentary videos you will find out there are focusing on various topics such as the Government, the world we live in, Spiriatuality, and more. In this video, Bryce Wilson of Ripten.com introduces himself and tells a little about what he's into over some Black Ops. Enjoy!"
Let's be honest, many of us only purchase our games online. We do this for a multitude of different reasons. For some, it's because it’s cheaper. Others do it for the convenience of having the game shipped to you. Check out the full article to see if this is a growing trend in the industry. Cheers!
"Robert Bowling, the Infinity Ward Creative Strategist has said that “building a new engine for the Call of Duty franchise “would be counter productive”.”
Like you, I’ve watched and watched again the Battlefield 3 in-game trailer, compared what antialiasing means for the Forstbite 2 engine and appreciated the quality of an upcoming FPS such as Crysis 2. I must say Robert Bowling words make me think of a joke, at first!"
"Not content with Call of Duty: Black Ops's absurd sales to date, Treyarch has decided to promote the game further by releasing a demo. The single-player sampler is now available through Xbox Live and PSN.
The demo features the "WMD" mission from the single-player campaign. You start the mission in the cockpit of an SR-71 spy plane. Using the aircraft's advanced sensors, you direct a squad of commandos past enemy patrols to their objective. After that, you take direct control of one of the ..."
Every year we get a new iteration of our most popular video game series. In this opinion piece, we discuss the negative and positive aspects of this growing trend. Cheers!
"When playing a game, watching a movie, or even laughing along with a sitcom, so much of the weight and power of the experience is tied up with the music. We’re not talking about backing pop tracks, but the orchestral tones and sounds behind the scenes can transform a piece of entertainment into a masterpiece. Sean Murray is the man behind such beloved shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and such games as True Crime and the lauded Call of Duty: Black Ops. Without his contribution to these piece..."
In this video you will see some revenge taken out on the nasty campers that inhabit the latest Call of Duty title. This time we see the Crossbow used as the weapon of choice combating them.

When gamers take to cheap tactics like camping and spawn-killing, there can only be one. There can only be one gangster regulator. The TeamKiller of Justice!!!
"Throughout the ages the popular media of the time has been used to reflect and to challenge the zeitgeist. Shakespeare challenged discrimination and class divide, Dostoevsky challenged poverty and the rationalisation of crime with Crime and Punishment, and more recently Catfish probed the world of Facebook and social media to highlight what lurks underneath the surface of an innocent profile page. With literature and film constantly challenging the zeitgeist, why can games not do the same? Th..."
Call of Duty games are typically thought of as some of the most realistic first-person shooters today. Upon closer examination, however, one realizes just how unrealistic it is. Here are five things about the franchise that don't correspond to the real world.

We also discuss the latest gaming news, consisting mostly of Namco game announcements, and some brief casual discussion."
It has become common knowledge at this point that Nintendo's online infrastructure for the Wii is fairly primitive. Few games support voice chat, Friend Codes are required for games to run on Nintendo's servers, and in the case of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, sometimes the games with the most online potential don't even work. Despite the obvious shortcomings of the Wii's online, there have been some online enabled games that excel even with Nintendo's handcuffs.
"Well, the time has come. The first batch of exclusive Call of Duty Black Ops maps is here for Xbox Live, and exclusive for the next couple of months. "You may have heard this name on your forays around the internet as they've recently been in the news regarding their plans to complain directly to Activision about buggy content in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Being the investigative journalistic sort that I am I decided immediately after reading an article on this to track down contact information for the site and within a few hours I was talking to a very helpful press officer who pitched my questions to Paul Gibson, the chairman of Gamer's Voi..."
"Curb your Call of Duty hatred: the series, even at its lowest points, is head and shoulders above most FPS on the market. With the critical success of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Treyarch made up for some of their past disappointments and proved that CoD would live on past the Infinity Ward debacle. With Activision planning on trudging ahead with a yearly schedule, rumors are once again pointing towards the next game, developed by Sledgehammer Games, being set many years (and miles) beyond previ..."
All of these things work great in video games, but it's not recommended that you try any of them in the real world. Unless you enjoy humiliation and/or pain.
Activision has reportedly made a statement that they are considering shutting down the PS3 log-in and infrastructure servers required for Black Ops to work online in the popular multi-player game. But will they really? Also, the argument to why they want to do this and where they place the blame will probably bring up more arguments amongst gamers than the possibility of the actual shutdown. Read the details on the news and our thoughts on what will transpire next.
"Overall, the Call of Duty franchise has made lasting effects on the FPS realm. They have had a massive variety of features created and then copied by other games. Sadly, one of those is dedicated servers. It is a sad day whenever I see a PC game actually advertise dedicated servers on the back of the box."
"I thought this appropriate after hearing the release numbers for the latest game in the series (Black Ops). Hearing that it had the biggest release day, beating Modern Warfare 2, and also had the most money spent on it for development, I expected…more."
It's 2011, so let's look ahead to the year in gaming. Some of these predictions are serious. Others... not so much. You should be able to tell which is which.
I can see where the author is coming from actually, having been around the gaming life for several decades, and participated in many genre's and styles of games. There does seem to be a level of 'slip' in what is being produced these days, especially when compared to games from earlier generations.

The release of Kinect and Move for Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively has all but set in stone the direction which console gaming will be heading in the coming years. There's no doubt that the console industry is flourishing. But what about PC gaming? This year has brought many to the conclusion that PC gaming is dead. But to say that th..."

"In this day and age $60 gets you a game that may or may not even run coming out of the box and a lot of you know exactly what game I’m talking about. It makes you question, who really wants to buy the next game in the series if they seem to be getting worse for wear when it comes to functionality in the annual outings?"
"hough interesting plot lines are nothing new to the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops stands out from the herd because the story has a greater fictional spin than other installments. In comparison, the story of the prior iteration, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, does not weave the historical fantasy that the writers at Treyarch accomplish. The seamless melding of real events and imaginary tales makes the campaign of Black Ops stand out from today's crowd of simplistic "Kill, Kill, Kill" plot..."
"For some odd reason when really big companies come under fire from the general public or a certain demographic that they cater to within the general public, they seem to think that the public has misconceived what the company is about...The problem is that it has nothing to do with company perception"

The KillCam is one feature that defines the Call of Duty franchise. Meant to serve as a learning tool for the player upon death, the KillCam fails in its purpose and actually affects the game negatively. As such, they should be removed from future installments of the Call of Duty series.
"Maybe that’s just an opinion, but I can almost guarantee that Modern Warfare 2 wouldn’t be as popular if it didn’t give people the opportunity to rank up and complete challenges to advance their character. Everyone is always talking about unlocking Fall camo for their Intervention, or about finally completing the last SCAR challenge. And what did these people get? Satisfaction. That word represents the one positive thing about ranking up in games."
Noob tubing, do you like being noob tubed? If you don't then thankfully there is a solution and it's been employed in the latest entry of a series that has perhaps defined noob tubing...
"Let's face it, Black Ops is a big deal, and in recent years Call of Duty has grown into the biggest franchise in the gaming industry, starting off with it's humble roots as a historical based war shooter it has grown and evolved into today's opiate of the masses. With Call of Duty: Black Ops grabbing the first week of sales industry record away from its predecessor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it's safe to say that Black Ops is already a commercial success, but is it really worthy of all t..."

In this article the Magnum P.I. of gaming analyzes a major issue causing dropped games in COD and breaks down some fundamental reasoning behind this flaw remaining for years running now in the COD series.

"Like every day, people try to exist using CoD franchise to create a sort of buzz. Today it’s Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter turns to open the Pandora box about Call of Duty Multiplayer supposed-incoming-charges. It provoks the public intervention of Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg in order to precise that CoD won’t charge people to play online."
"Another year, another Call of Duty title. Treyarch has never been one of Activision’s premier studios, and it’s a fair assertion that they won the IP lottery when brought in to fill the annual gap between Infinity Ward’s off-years. Call of Duty 3 was an utter embarrassment (eventually driving IW to attempt to segregate Modern Warfare from the CoD brand), though World at War was a considerable improvement. Black Ops has the unfortunate honor of following in Modern Warfare 2’s gargantuan footst..."
This short scene will show you how effective this ray gun is against the dreaded endless waves of zombies.
Blasting, ripping off arms tearing off legs and splattering guts all over the place equals good clean fun. If you can survive long enough to get this weapon and then upgrade it this will definitely help you advance further into the abyss.

Call of Duty: Black Ops earned more than $650 million worldwide within its first week of launch. Did that equal more game-time than Modern Warfare 2 or Halo: Reach, though? Raptr's latest report sheds lights on how Black Ops really compared to the other FPS juggernauts.
Nintendo DS which is primarily a children's hand held game system It leaves me asking why DS and not PSP? Not that there is anything wrong with putting it on DS but wouldn't make sense to release it on such a power full unit as the PSP? Voice your opinion and maybe Activision and Treyarch will take a second look at the world's premiere PlayStation Portable system.
"So why, then, are the hosts of “1st and 10” on ESPN getting their panties in a bunch, claiming action should be taken to punish Bryant for his inclusion? It makes no sense to me. I can understand people being a little sensitive about war being glorified while soldiers are, even as I type this, giving their lives for their country. But why is the commercial being singled out?"
After escaping from the clutches of the enemy by the skin of your teeth you find at the enemy camp there is a way out. The Hind helicopter is rip for the taking so jump in and head upward. Battle the forces that may be up river and also attacking from other oncoming air traffic. "It has gotten to the point where Activision’s latest shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops has achieved a level of media saturation rarely seen outside of multi-million dollar movies. Whether it be through the power of celebrity talent, or a veritable onslaught of advertisements, the latest title in this shooter series has managed to swim its way right into the mainstream."
Many video games such as Counter-Strike and Halo 2 have included the ability for players to dual wield weapons. Being able to use akimbo style shotguns in Call of Duty: Black Ops, however, is stupid and unrealistic.
Mason awakes to some real bad news, his entire mission in Cuba was for nothing. Now he is in even more hot water than before. He is heading for a Russian death camp that is virtually impenetrable from the inside or out after being handed over to the Russians by Castro himself as a gift.
This video shows one of the fun interactive cut scenes that for me made this game a lot more enjoyable. They have made some serious efforts to keep your attention during the single player campaign mode. Which intern has kept this game in my console for a few weeks now. Of course some would say it has taken up too much of the actual game-play I say it was worth it!
"It’s impressive how much content Treyarch managed to cram onto this Wii disc, but it’s by no means the way to experience Black Ops. The campaign is well-paced, and the multiplayer is packed with features that can keep you coming back if you can get over the less-precise controls. If you have a choice, however, this version is not the one to play."
"With video games more expensive than ever, you would think that gamers would squeeze every last second of play out of them before moving on to the next adventure. But that's not always the case. Earlier this year, Bioware released some fascinating statistics about Mass Effect 2, but the stand-out figure was the revelation that only 50 -percent of players actually finished Commander Shepherd's mission to stop the Collectors."
Russ Frushtick has posted up a blog detailing a list of games which are hot favourites to buy your friend or family member this holiday season, including a subtle question for each one to try and bring it into conversation to see if they'll like it. This is the scene that plays out after you have completed campaign mode.
You will also have to wait for the credits to roll through before it starts. But it is well worth the wait when you see what Treyach has in store. The beginning of a whole new game mode adding more play time bang for the buck.
Arguably one of the most anticipated title this quarter, if not this year, Call Of Duty Black Ops whacks a whollop and is setting records with sales and players online.

"The times are a'changing! I never thought we would be sitting here discussing two top quality Wii shooters. But alas, they have both been released in the hectic month of November, within less than a week. The problem is, it’s near impossible to commit to both with so many other FPS games on other formats - unless you’re a Wii only gamer - so the question is: which do you buy?"

"Today is arguably the biggest day of the 2010 gaming calendar so far – I am, of course, talking about the release day for Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is an achievement for Treyarch that their game has not only surpassed the release of Playstation Move and Kinect in terms of hype but has also beaten the number of pre-orders which Modern Warfare 2 had despite them being thought of as second fiddle to the franchise founders: Infinity Ward."

"We knew that Eminem had been a big part of the game’s official soundtrack, but to actually have one of his tracks hidden inside zombie mode is awesome. It is a shame that Treyarch picked ‘Wont Back Down’ though, ‘Till I collapse’ would of been more appropriate for the level, do you agree?"

"One of the most interesting developer stories to watch over the last several years has been the rivalry between Infinity Ward and Treyarch. Whereas the former has consistently shattered critical and sales records with each of its successive games, the latter has been Activision’s mandated “off-year” developer for the Call of Duty franchise."
"Critical Gamer writes: Are you one of the millions of people looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops? If so, just how excited are you? Two people were looking forward to it so much, they were prepared to pay over £200 each to get a copy just a few days early – as these pictures prove.
Somehow, one UK gamer managed to get hold of not just one but two copies of Black Ops for the Xbox 360 to sell on ebay. We’ve hidden his/her ebay ID here, but it will be easy enough for anybody – including..."
While many gamers love the inclusion of zombies into games, especially of late, seeing just about 'every' developers is going down that avenue, it seems that the other avenue for raising attention is 'controversy'.
WHat better way to gain attention than to irk the publicinto making the game a public talking spot, and thus raise attention to it, thus increase sales.
It has worked for many games, especially the last several Call Of Duty titles, and the Medal Of Honor titles of late.

Have you ever been killed in a Call of Duty game only to watch the kill cam and see that the other player was watching the door? It is no secret that camping is running rampant in the Call of Duty community and based on the track record of the series, Black Ops isn't going to be any different. It doesn't have to be like that, however, and here is one way camping could be quelled.
"Contrary to its approach to Modern Warfare 2's piracy, which was to seek arrests for anyone found selling illegal copies of the game, Activision is simply asking Black Ops pirates to cut it out, and quite politely it seems. VentureBeat has posted the story of one bootleg buyer who has uploaded a series of videos detailing being tracked down by the publisher's private investigators, IP Cybercrime, on YouTube. According to the article, rather than report individuals such as him to the police, I..."
"Yes you read right, and yes I know of Modern Warfare 2, but Call of Duty: Black Ops is slated to become one of, if not the biggest launch in all of video game and entertainment history."

Obviously, a spoiler alert is in order for those who don't wish to have the game blown for them before its November 9 release; this list reveals things we didn't know before. "
"That said, even as shooters are flying high with the success of all the Halos and Call of Duty’s there is an undeniable sense that the current model for the genre may be reaching a breaking point. As excited as some were when Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops were announced there were also more than a few people rolling their eyes. I have no doubt that Black Ops will entertaining game. But it’s probably not going to be anything we haven’t seen before. A brief, single player campaign and..."
""We continued to evolve [Nazi Zombies] after World At War - there was a dialogue going on with some of our hardcore community, and we were able to interact with the community and evolve - we did that with our zombie lore," he told the new Edge Magazine."
"Here we are, another day closer to November 9th, and a few more minor news updates to share. Perhaps the most notable bit of news, is that it seems that Black Ops is nearing completion. The widget on this author’s mobile phone, which is checked religiously, says that Black Ops is 45 days away from launch. So, factoring in the time it takes to get several million copies of the game manufactured, it is comforting to know that Treyarch seems to be right on schedule with their production timeline..."

With the great games that came out this year like Red Dead Redemption, God of War III, and the newly released Halo: Reach this year has been a great time to be a gamer. Thing is the year is coming to an end and its time to run down the remaining games coming out this Holiday season.
OXCGN is seeking gamers to submit their writing skill in the form of articles and reviews. The first one of the rank is a decent one about the lack of focus in the game development field today.
Come check it out, it's certainly not some off the cuff blurb, but written by a game tester for a major title, discussing the let down in gaming of late. It is certainly well worth the read.
"At least according to Japan’s Computer Entertainment Rating Organization while violent tentacle sex exports go unchecked. Although I don’t think they are the board that controls tentacle rape porn, so maybe I’m just being incendiary."
"Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia, has said that Call of Duty: Black Ops online multiplayer will always be free and believes you don’t need an Online Pass to compete with used games sales."

Treyarch's Mark Malia claims that it is the best work they've ever done and that the game has been shaped by feedback from the gaming community."
This news report shows that the Call of Duty Black Ops beta everyone has been seeing via Google ads etc is actually not the real deal and not official by any means!
"If there is one thing you probably don’t want to do, it’s upset a military man.
Unfortunately, that seems to be precisely what some foul-mouthed young tots have done to war hero, U.S. military adviser, and consultant for Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Hank Keirsey. In addition to Treyarch’s latest, Keirsey has also had a hand in Call of Duty 3 and Modern Warfare, making him not only familiar with the games, but those who play them as well."
Well, it looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops is definitely getting a beta and sign ups will start in just a couple of days. There is some bad news for Playstation 3 owners though.

"This Interview on HipHopGamers Show reveals many interesting details on the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops.
First of all: CoD: Black Ops is the first CoD to propose destructible elements in the environment. We have speculated about that since the announcement of Black Ops and its first trailer but it sounds like it is now real."
"The variety of gameplay scenarios in Black Ops is impressive, and this range of actions is matched with the game’s visuals, which are also striking even if the engine behind-the-scenes is getting a teensy bit dated, looking very ‘texture heavy’ with very few apparent graphics effects and filters… although where the game does use special graphics tricks, it does so spectacularly, with great water effects as you dive into (and swim in) a river and great lighting effects from gunfire and overbri..."
Treyarch are unsurprising keeping things quiet when it comes to Black Ops, however a writer for Kokatu recently managed to speak to Black Ops’ community manager, Josh Olin, where he also got to see some of the game’s amazing campaign.
Only one level was shown, to the writer, this level is called Victor Charlie and is set in the late 1960s in Vietnam, apparently you are in a chopper which gets shot down, you then have to battle in the jungle, where the visuals are said to be great.
Check out this Preview / Interview with Deputy Editor of DualShockers Joel Taveras and Josh "JD_2020" Olin who walks us through many details relating to Black Ops and how it will aim to trump MW2 in so many ways.
"Those particularly attuned to Modern Warfare news may remember that Robert Bowling, creative strategist at Infinity Ward disappointed a lot of people when he tweeted back in September of last year that “There isn’t an option to search specific regions/ countries when matchmaking, but there is improved matchmaking to auto-assist.”"
On August 20th 9:00am PST, Treyarch's Community Manager, Josh Olin and Treyarch's Military Advisor, Hank Keirsey, will be doing a live Interview on Facebook. Throughout this interview, the pair of them will answer the most popular questions voted on and submitted by Facebook users. It is like a never ending cycle. After many sources analysing the multiplayer video we can see many of the old rumours, made by Woodys Gamertag of the gaming podcast Painkiller Already, have come true.
Also in conjunction with this effect more rumours had arrived from the same source. Will these rumours also turn out to be true like the previous ones?
"Josh Olin, community manager for Treyarch, has confirmed that the 4 zombie maps for Call of Duty: World at War will return as ‘callback co-op levels’ in the Hardened and Prestige editions of CoD: Black Ops. This comes after an embarassing leak by GameStop, who gave out fliers to customers with the information on, and Best Buy, who subsequently posted it on their site."

The price tag on this in Australia isa whopping $AU228, and more in New Zealand . . .
There could be some slight differences, as is often the case with localisation, so we'll have to wait and see, but head over and see just how expensive collectables can be in Oz.

"Huge releases in the form of new Halo and Call of Duty games on the schedule and a steady announcement of game delays. Sound familiar? It should because it happened in 2009 with game after game delayed due to either avoid a crowded market, ensure quality, or to avoid the juggernauts of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3: ODST. Are we headed for the same with 2010?"
"Don't sound to surprised but a listing at Buy.com indicates that Hardened and Prestige special editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops will be making their way to the PS3 and Xbox 360. The listings for the two editions didn't contain any details though and have since been pulled."
"Yesterday, Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops will be released on Nintendo DS too. The game can’t be released on more platforms. I expect an iPhone / Ipad version for the release. Maybe we will also be able to play the game on watches, Atari 1200XL, GPS and on cash machines. But it’s a rumor right?"
"Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombie mode remains a shadow point in next CoD game. Treyarch developed a huge zombie mode on Call of Duty: World at War and fans want to have the mode back in Black Ops. However, among a big mystery on that question, we revealed few weeks ago clues that may be for a Black Ops Zombie mode: an IMdb update gave a new clue as a job casting for Zombie voices"
"Outside of MMORPGs and Xbox LIVE, playing games online has been a relatively free experience that gamers have grown accustomed to enjoying. Now that appears to be changing with EA introducing initiatives like Project Ten Dollar and comments from the CEO of Activision wishing for a subscription fee for Call of Duty. Wedbush Analyst Michael Pachter has also been calling for publishers to move towards subscription-based online gaming as well and now he says, "Gamers, used game purchasers and n..."
"Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has recently made the statement that, “The Call of Duty franchise is a force of nature. I think it is the closest thing this generation has to a Star Wars. I think it’s unique and bigger than any musical act or any movie franchise in that capacity.” While we appreciate Mr. Kotick’s enthusiasm for his product, we don’t believe there’s been a game that has come close to the cultural impact that Star Wars had when it was released in 1977. However, we humbly submit fiv..."

Black Ops communication follows Modern Warfare 2 rules"
"One of the good news that Treyarch creates Call of Duty: Black Ops is that we will certainly have a Zombie mode. Famous on Call of Duty: World at War, the mode is very anticipated by the numerous fans. I think the mode doesn’t need any introduction but for those who spent their last years in an isolated warehouse in the middle of a desert: the Zombie mode is a multiplayer mode in which you face horde of zombies in an abandoned house. You have to survive to the highest wave possible."
"Treyarch is aware of every gamer’s feedback. They asked the community how long the prestige mode has to take to another to get hold of prestive symbol. The community had several choices: less than 12 hours, 12 hours, 18 hours, 24 hours, 40 hours, 64 hours and more than 64 hours."

"Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC kicked off a week of highlighting video games by bringing out Kinect for the Xbox 360 and two casual focused games. Fallon continues his game week focus tonight with by bringing on Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 from Activision and Treyarch."
"Onto #2 of our publisher recaps, having a look at each of the games Activision was showing.
This is a discussion of our impressions and thoughts on the games instead of specs or features lists, as we know how difficult it can be to gauge exactly how good or shaky a game is looking at E3 amongst the marketing talk.
This only discusses the games we either played, or went behind closed doors for a media session. Luckily this covers almost all significant Xbox 360 games.
Once again, the ..."

"Never say that the Call of Duty brand name lacks selling power as the just announced Black Ops is already on the road to being a blockbuster. The Treyarch developed and Activision published game has already hit the top 10 pre-order charts for Amazon and GameStop and has been forecasted to sell over 10 million units across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 according to analysts at investment banking firm, Cowan & Company."
"Activision released the debut trailer for Treyarch's latest take on the Call of Duty franchise during the NBA playoffs last night and it has certainly stirred the gaming world judging by the chatter. However, the Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer denotes a distinct shift in style for Treyarch that lends itself more to Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare series than their past efforts on Call of Duty: World at War or Call of Duty 3."
The GameStop exclusive pre-order bonus item for the upcoming Nintendo Wii, PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops, has been revealed.
"But Infinity Ward are shedding staff like nobody's business - and the MW franchise is 'damaged', according to rival EA. Who better to save the Modern Warfare series from oblivion than the most celebrated FPS developer in the world?
Bungie and Activision are bosom buddies - and it's not as if the publisher doesn't have the money and power to (a) Increase Bungie's headcount so it can work on two projects and (b) Change the Washington-based firm's mentality of concentrating solely on one IP."
"Activision revealed earlier this year that newly-formed Sledgehammer Games will develop a spin-off Call of Duty title, rumored to be a third-person shooter. When asked if it was possible two Call of Duty titles could be released in 2011 and if the company was worried about diluting the market, Tippl wouldn't clarify, only saying that Activision has set high standards for its titles."
In the new issue of the PC Zone magazine, Lamia was asked whether this exciting feature would be put in. Lamia replied, "I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don't see any reason not to see them unless... well, I just don't see any reason not to."

The gameplay was inspired by incredible personalities brought up by wars and extreme contexts. This article details how Treyarch is working on the new project of the franchise.
"When the storm troopers arrived at Activision in early March, what resulted was a swift and unclear dismissal of Jason West and Vince Zampella of Infinity Ward and a pending lawsuit against the company by the two. Many speculate that this was an unfair dismissal on the part of Activision in order to avoid a large royalty payment due on March 31st. Whatever the reason, more details will certainly be revealed as the $36 million lawsuit progresses. What is not yet clear is the effect that this w..."
"These screens give a glimpse into what Black Ops will be all about but from what we can tell it seems to be a blockbuster filled action game. What do the scientists in the lab have to do with Call of Duty? We are sure to find out as more details are soon to follow."
