"One of the big themes of gaming recently is morality. It was squeezed into all sorts of places, but tended to force the player into a pure good or pure evil playthrough of a game, as the strict dichotomy setup between the two didn’t accommodate for the foggier choices people tend to be forced into making in real life. I find the idea an excellent one, though. A game where my decisions affect the world around me in some way inevitably draws me deeper into the narrative as I make the character ..."
"Being a huge fan of DBZ, I can’t help but laugh to myself whenever I see Chrono in one of the animated cutscenes. He looks so much like Goku from DragonBall Z. Yeah, I know Akira Toriyama worked on the game and that’s why there’s a resemblance, but still; Goku!"
Sony has announced this year at TGS that they will be releasing a whole slew of mobile RPG ports. Among them is the classic time traveling adventure, Chrono Trigger, which will be re-released via iOS and Android.
"After failing to sell his sealed copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES at a price of $7,500, eBay user pkspecial.2008 has relisted his item, which has already climbed to $610 as of this writing."
Chrono Trigger needs no introduction. Often regarded as one of the best RPGs ever released, there are few who are genuinely unfamiliar with its characters. FullMetalSam executes a pretty nifty rendition of Robo here.
"What is Chrono Trigger? If like me you only heard the name of Chrono Trigger in passing over the years but never experienced it, you may be a bit unaware about what it actually is. Well, I'm here to tell you, so don't fret. Chrono Trigger is a JRPG developed by the good people at what was then known as Square (now known as Square Enix) originally for the SNES, but is now also available on PS1 and Nintendo DS. It is a tale of the usual sort, filled with betrayal, character development and a g..."
"While there’s no denying the charm of an 8-bit Queen DJ Hero mash-up, some developers have gone against the grain and revived some hits from the 80s and 90s to today’s standards. Not only are these fan-made creations (mostly) good, some even rival what the bigwigs are pumping out."
When video games are designed to look a specific way, the visual style can often last well past the viability of a console. This article examines how developers create visually "timeless" graphics, as well as collects several of the most prominent examples.
GameZone's Dave Snell discusses what it takes to for games to "stand the test of time." In the article, LittleBigPlanet, Half-Life 2, The Orange Box, and Chrono Trigger are written about.
Impressive fan art that combines the colorful worlds of two of the most beloved Super Nintendo games of all time - Super Mario Bros and Chrono Trigger.
GameDaily gives its own take at which RPG style is superior in the categories of the classic RPG, the MMORPG, the tactical RPG, the action RPG, most emotionally engaging (contains FFVII and Mass Effect spoilers), and the overall winner.
Though you might not agree with everything stated, it is an interesting read on a topic that continues to spur the interest of RPG fans.
People find comfort in familiarity. Apparently this marketing ploy is working both ways, as the popularity of "de-makes" of classic titles is a hot seller. Similar to the popularity of 8-bit Left4Dead, check out these hilarious videos of pirated, 8-bit de-makes from China.
Square Enix is undoubtedly one of the most popular game developers. But while series such as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest recieve all kinds of sequels, prequels and spin-offs, there are many classic Square games (such as Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Chrono Trigger, Brave Fencer Musashi, etc) that haven't recieved the sequel treatment they deserve.
Dualshockers.com believes Square Enix should start looking into reviving some of their older games.
"13. Eternal Sonata
Kicking off our list is Eternal Sonata, a game in which you assume the role of Frederic Chopin. As you might imagine, a game based on such a prolific pianist features a stunning soundtrack. The soundtrack even incorporates some of Chopin’s classic works, such as Polonaise, Op. 53, Étude Op. 10, No. 12, and Étude Op. 10, No. 3. The theme featured is the battle music, which clearly demonstrates the theme of the game."
It is very difficult to just pick 10 and everyone has their own tastes and may not agree with the list, but openly debate the top 10 console RPG's of all time! What games were missed?
"Throughout gaming history, and your own personal gaming experiences, I’m sure there are moments that you will never forget. The death of your favorite character, a sudden plot twist, a beautiful romance reaching fruition, or whatever else suits your fancy, there are certain moments that are etched indelibly into your memory.
This list explores 10 of my most favorite scenes/moments from video games. I make no effort to claim that these are THE top 10 EVER. They are simply 10 moments that I ..."
"Square Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto revealed that the company wasn't very impressed by the sales of cult RPG classic Chrono Trigger during an E3 interview regarding Front Mission Evolved, a reinvention of the Front Mission franchise.
When asked by RPGSite staff if he could forsee Square handing off other much-loved but neglected franchises to external developers as with Front Mission, he asked what franchsie we had in mind.
Our response? Of course, Chrono Trigger.
"Why..."
"There are lots of excellent reasons to want to blow up an RPG town. If you’re a villain, for example, you might level a place because it’s friendly to some resistance movement, or it’s in your way, or the heroes are stopping in briefly on their way to kill you. If you’re a game designer, you might do it to raise the stakes, or to give players some emotional reason to want the villain dead. And if you’re a player, it’s probably because you’re sick of listening to a bunch of cookie-cutter whine..."
Some big Chrono Trigger fans have been on a mission for a long time now to make a sequel to the original game. According to their website, it featured "~35 hours of game play, 10 multiple endings, and 23 chapters, much like the original Chrono Trigger; it was around 98% complete. The plot featured the original cast as they struggled against a new villain risen from the legacy of Zeal."
Subtitled Crimson Echoes, Square Enix has, sadly, pulled the plug on the project. While this is no s...
"Game developer Sirius Entertainment has announced today that Japanese game music composer Mitsuda Yasunori would be in charge of sound for the 3D fantasy online game Lime Odyssey, which is currently under development by the company."
"You know, the problem with top ten lists is that you only have a selection of ten to choose from. Sure, I could make my lists into top 20 lists, but it's just not as cool as ten. Its either go top ten, or go top 100, and I just dont think I can name that many games on my own to make a list of that stature. So here are my top ten favorite video game villains of all time. Some of them may seem like cheeky afterthoughts to you, but hear them out. I think youll agree that I have a valid point ..."
"Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of Square Enix interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces that Chrono Trigger will be released across PAL territories on..."
If you have played Chrono Trigger, you may have noticed that Robo's Theme sounds oddly similar to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". Many fans like to joke that it was the first ever Rick Roll.
Chrono Trigger's composer Yasunori Mitsuda was recently asked what he thought of "Never Gonna Give You Up" and whether the similarity was intentional ...
Remember this scary woman? Her name is Haruna Anno and she's a retro gaming nerd/idol/model and stuff. Recently, during a break from writing "Chrono Trigger" in Japanese caligraphy (a game she has apparently played for 36 consecutive hours), she sent a message out to pirates on her blog. This also comes in light of the recent anti-piracy methods employed by Chrono Trigger DS, mind you.

"On October 17th, 2008, I proposed to my (now) Fiance. Originally I wanted to retun to the site of our first date, Mount Baker, near Bellingham Washington. Sadly, there was no discrete way to get her out there. So I turned to the next best thing, digitally recreating the mountain!
But why stop there? I figured I'd try and recreate many of our other favorite memories -- stargazing, dancing, even her favorite song lyrics (from the Princess Bride). I'm a college student who is studying Compute..."
CasualtyGamer goes through their list of the best 6 RPGs available for the SNES, which is arguably the best system for traditional RPGs. All in all- gamers who played the original, or even gamers who played the countless remakes will appreciate this list.
After the nighttime leak/reveal shocked and caused the internet to explode, the news reel is not over yet. The latest game announced by RPG house Square Enix, Chrono Trigger DS, is set to release in North America this holiday season.

"Hardcore Gamer - You don't need a pair to kill Altima in Final Fantasy Tactics with one blow or defeat Metatron from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne without losing your sanity. While the hardcore who would go discuss their "1337" gameplay tactics and strategies on notorious message boards almost never expect to run across girls, it is a fact that the male dominated scene of spending hundreds of hours to kill secret bosses and pull off insane Achievements for bragging rights is not without the pr..."
"The auction for the sealed copy of Chrono Trigger I wrote about yesterday has closed and the coveted game went or a whopping $1,217. The winning bidder will be a bit poorer but will have one hell of a piece of game history in their hands. If you're itching to drop a load of money on a sealed SNES game and missed out on this one, you can still get a bid in on this copy of MegaMan X2. Opening bid is $1,000. I'm truly amazed... I guess it's true that things are ultimately worth whatever someone ..."
