""We've been intrigued about Dante's Inferno. This is my favourite genre, and the more people that are making [these games] the better," Asmussen told the UK Official PlayStation magazine.

"And this is a really rich story they're building on, it's very interesting. The day that the demo came out we were trying to download it on PSN at midnight. We all wanted to see it," he added."

Icrontic's articulate CB Droege brings us this week's interesting new releases in gaming. Featured this week are Bioshock 2, The Daring Game for Girls, Dante's Inferno, and Blaster Master Overdrive

"In true Electronic Arts fashion, we already have a release schedule set for Dante's Inferno DLC. We're sure that even though the game is still warm from the disc pressing and just shipping, that EA just couldn't fit the DLC on the disc. Maybe that's a complete lie and EA is just ready to nickel and dime you?"

Until February 9th, Amazon is offering $10 future game credit with pre-order of Bioshock 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC), Dante's Inferno (Xbox 360, PS3, PSP), Scene It? "BioShock was one of the biggest surprises of 2007 and after a four-month delay, 2K Games is finally ready to retrun to Rapture with BioShock 2 this week. The PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 sequel comes from a new developer (2K Marin), but gives gamers the chance to play as the series' iconic Big Daddy."

Yes you heard right! Leaked videos found on Youtube from owners who have gotten the game early posted video that on the disc you can access the trailer for the upcoming DLC titled "Trials of St. Lucia". On this DLC you can apparently create your own custom trials, and where you can play co-op online as either Dante or St. Lucia. The DLC is said to be released April 29. It looks like CBS wasn't too happy with EA's Dante's Inferno Super Bowl commercial. The expensive one-minute-and-42-seconds long ad was rejected, not for its depiction of Hell and violent imagery, but for telling the viewers to "Go to Hell" at the end of the commercial.
CBS asked the publishers to change the words to "Hell awaits".

In fact, together with the game, all those who purchase Dante's Inferno on the PlayStation 3 will receive this special edition which includes..."

Some nice information for people who are planning on getting Dante's Inferno. EA have announced that the PS3 owners have the choice to buy the special "divine" edition, which is not available on other consoles. The Divine Edition will come with a complete Longfellow text of Dante Aligheri's Inferno, Digital artbook, developer videoes, and a digital copy of the soundtrack.

Usually dev's give out figurines of the protagonist in special editions of the game, but Visceral Games are feeling a little generous. If you preorder the game at gamestop you will be able to get this pretty awesome figurine of Dante. Hey, its free so why not get it.

"In the demo, players will have to defeat Death in order to win his scythe and holy cross before ripping open the gates of Hell. The taster also includes two short movies created by the Blur digital animation studio.

"Our main goal from the start of this project has been to create a journey that will make gamers truly feel like they are going through hell," said the game's executive producer Jonathan Knight.

We've all heard about EA's unique marketing strategy for Dante's Inferno, but this one really takes it to the extreme. It all began with a box addressed to Yahtzee from EA. Inside it were a set of goggles, a small ball peen hammer, and a little recording of the infamous song- "Never gonna give you up...". Yahtzee proceeded to smash the box to bits, trying to stop the song, and he found a simple note from EA. Certainly a clever and amusing move for publicity, but could this also be EA's little...

Hell is not a pretty place, at all. Its completely silly for people not to expect really gruesome and obscene things. After all it is hell. Well no matter how horrible hell is, it still has to be censored, for some regions. Sadly Dante's Inferno has to be "softened up" to those areas. No word on which regions they will be, but we can all assume which ones they will be.

Not sure what is in the water devs have been drinking recently.

Following the leak of the "Fairytale Fights" kill children achievement over the summer, the team behind Dante's Inferno must have decided they wanted to one up Fairytale Fights by taking child killing achievements to the next level.

Do you think EA is going too far trying to top God of War with Dante's Inferno considering the 'naughty bits', "baby killing achievements, a menu containing FMV of a topless woman, BBQed monster...

"Now with the release of the game a few months away it looks like the film is starting to make some headway. Visceral Games has announced that Academy Award nominee Will Rokos will be writing the script for the film. Obviously most of you have no clue who the hell Will Rokos is but his Academy Award nom was for writing the drama “Monsters Ball” which as we know was the film Halle Berry won her Oscar for."

Its no surprise that Dante's Inferno look a lot like God Of War, so many people started saying to compare the two games, some have gone out to call it a ripp-off. Jonathan Knight has spoken up about this and said that its actually a compliment to be compared to such a great game. He praises God Of War and thinks its good that his game can be just like it. Well, you weren't expecting that.

"At its GamesCom 2009 press conference moments ago, Electronic Arts announced that Dante's Inferno will be released on February 9, 2010. The PlayStation 3, Xbox and PC game adapts Dante Alighieri's epic-poem The Divine Comedy into an ass-kicking action game, although, it leaves out the endless chapters about how awesome heaven is and how boring purgatory is."

Remember EA's brilliant idea to reward lustful behavior at Comic-Con? As a reminder, they were holding a contest for who could perform the most (legally) depraved act on a booth babe, in exchange for a chaperoned all-expenses paid evening with her. The contest had some questionable wording:

quote
"...a night with the hottest girl at Comic Con, dinner, booty and more."
Well, after a whole lot of controversy over bad word choices, Electronic Arts has released an apology for their idiocy... on ...

"At Comic Con, if you commit "an act of lust" with an EA booth babe and take a picture, you could win dinner with said babes, as well as a great big pile of prizes related to the upcoming Dante's Inferno. That's right, the babes won't just get the standard behavior and awkward advances—if someone is really obnoxious, they get rewarded for it, and then you get to see them again socially!

Technically you're only supposed to take a picture to be entered, but I can't even start to imagine how p..."

"However more recent press releases for the game have mentioned an Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP ports of the game but no mentions of a PC port. Big Download decided to get the final word on this situation and contacted EA's PR head for the game. Their response? "When Dante's Inferno was originally announced in December, we attached no platforms to the project. When we came out with a first look for press in February we announced 360/PS3 and then in April we announced PSP. We never announced a PC SKU ..."

"Visceral Games‘, Dante’s Inferno is a dark descent into hell. The entire concept is very reminiscent of God of War and there has been no end to the comparisons of the two games. One big difference was God of War III was playable at E3. Dante was only playable behind closed doors. This week, Dante has his first public gameplay demonstrations."

Last week we all found out that E3's Christian protest against Dante's Inferno was a publicity stunt on EA's behalf. Whether or not it was successful viral marketing is up for debate, but the news of the fake protest certainly didn't impress some religious sites...

We all saw the Christian protest against Dante's Inferno at E3 last week. But was it a real protest? Or just a PR stunt?
Today EA confirmed that the entire protest was staged. It was all just a big publicity stunt.

"There are two hot-button issues you should stay away from in casual conversation: politics, and religion. Thankfully, video games aren't a kindly chit-chat, which means you can overthrow governments, fight your way in and out of hell, and maybe even use crosses as weapons. Hell, I've used crosses in Castlevania for years, and never thought much of anything about it. Unfortunately for Electronic Arts, some hardcore Christian activists don't quite see it the same way I do."

"Assuming the role of Dante, players descend into Hell to save Beatrice, the love interest, whose soul has been seduced by Lucifer. However, predictably, on his mission, Dante must inevitably face demons of his own and ultimately redeem himself. Dante Alighieri’s infamous nine circles of Hell; limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery, provide the backdrop of Dante’s journey."

"After Electronic Theatre reported on the fact (with thanks to Blend Games) back at the start of March, Electronic Arts Inc. today officially announced that its award-winning EA Redwood Shores Studio has been renamed and re-branded Visceral Games to better reflect the studio’s culture, identity and focus on creating intense action-oriented intellectual properties."

"For the chance of winning a trip to San Francisco – as well as having your production featured as the official trailer for Dante’s Inferno – Electronic Arts are inviting fans to produce a thirty-three second trailer for the game."

We have here yet another look inside Dante's Inferno, Redwood Shores' upcoming adaptation of The Divine Comedy.

According to Desctructoid's "Hamza CTZ Aziz", live from Wondercon, the game begins with "Dante killing Death and taking Death’s scythe", then returning home to find his fiancée Beatrice has been murdered and "seduced" into Hell by Lucifier. Dante then proceeds to kick open the gates of Hell and try to get his lady back.

From here he faces each of his sins to redeem himself whi...

"- The game runs at a solid 60FPS and is brought to life by the excellent animations of its enemies and protagonist.
- Dante Aligheri, the Florentine poet that the game is based upon, has been turned into a “muscular six foot knight with magic powers” to suit the tone of the game. Dante is fighting his way through Hell to save his lost love Beatrice, who has been murdered and wrongly sent to the underworld.
- One of the first boss encounters takes place in “Limbo," an area of lost souls who ..."

"The first solid gameplay details regarding EA Redwood Shores' poem-inspired action game Dante's Inferno, due out this fall, have arrived via UK print magazine PSM 3.

Described by the magazine as "Dead Space meets God of War in Hell," Dante's Inferno apparently borrows the atmosphere of EA Redwood Shore's action-horror title Dead Space and mixes it with the beat 'em up gameplay of SCE Santa Monica's PlayStation-exclusive God of War franchise."
