"Having bought myself the videogames I wanted most before the arrival of the holidays, I’ve come to a painful realization. You see, by purchasing all the games that interested me before they could be given to me as presents, I inadvertently killed much of the Christmas’ ‘buzz.’ This year, it wasn’t like when I was younger and had no choice but to wait for the big day, bubbling with anticipation and excitement for games I knew I’d unwrap.
You remember that feeling, right?"
"Looking back on everything that came out this year, there’s a lot of stuff I missed; and a lot more stuff that I forgot even came out (Dead Space 2 was this year?!). This was a really good year for gaming, and now I have a lot of games that I’ll have to talk about on The Catch-Up. Like…"
Tonight is Halloween and if you are finding yourself a little bored with the traditional movies, here are five spooky video games to play in order to honor the Halloween spirit.
There are a lot of big releases left before the year's end, but a few games have already come out this Fall that you should be playing right now. On the other hand, there are a few games that we'd expected to be great but didn't quite hit the mark.
Year after year some publishers produce the same games. Sometimes if gamers are lucky they seen a new IP. Sometimes the new IPs sell well for example Bulletstorm, Dead Island, and LA Noire. But other games like Majin and Blur don't sell well at all. Is it because the gaming industry only wants the new Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Madden?
PC gaming is not likely to ever completely die, but it's certainly as far from the leading role as it's ever been. When one of the most influential visionaries in PC gaming is declaring the platform to be playing second fiddle, we have no choice but to listen.
"Welcome to our brand new monthly recap feature that takes a look at some of the top gaming titles that were released for the Xbox 360 sometime in the past month (including Xbox Live Arcade and of course retail). From the entire catalogue of releases we narrow it down to a field of five and determine which one of those is our top Xbox 360 game of the month. September was indeed a tough battle, with lots of contenders coming from a number of different genres, but I think you probably have a goo..."
"I hear you talking to the screen right now and telling me to simply wait for more copies to arrive in 2 weeks time but then what will happen to Dead Island? Dead Island will drop faster than Katie Price’s pants. Dead Island in approximately one weeks time will sink, drop and fall out of existence as it is swallowed whole by the mammoth beast that is Gears Of War 3. Gears Of War 3 and Dead Island are obviously different genres and types of game but who will be playing Dead Island online when t..."
In this week's edition of New Challenger, Default Prime columnist Chris Stewart felt compelled to complete this piece discussing game bugs and glitches after being assaulted by Dead Island's launch issues.
September marks the start of the quarter 4 gaming rush. Every month from now until the end of the year is packed with big-time releases. Which one is tops on your list for September?
"We’re just a few days away from going on a zombie rampage on the beautiful tropical island of Banoi, just off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Dead Island ships to stores for Xbox 360 on September 6, and we’re already on our way to spilling some blood on the sand, thanks to the good people at Deep Silver. We have to wait a few days to give you a final verdict (expect our full review early next week), but for now, we can provide you with some impressions based on what we’ve played thus far."
"Drew Cohen —Dead Island Stands Out By Being Both Splattery and SolemnDead Island had been sending mixed signals—I wasn't able to tell whether this title was meant to be a goofy splatterfest or emotionally devastating. Having now had the chance to experience the game first hand, I think it's trying to be a little of both. Surprisingly, the combination works."
"GamingShogun writes: "Prey was one of those games that took quite a while to be developed, being used as a test-bed for a number of game engines back as far as 1995 by 3D Realms. After being contracted out to Human Head Studios, the game finally released in 2006 to very good reviews, praising the game’s unique, gravity-altering mechanics, pretty visuals, and the interesting internal struggle of the main character – a Native American former-soldier living on a reservation (think Johnny Fireclo..."
