In honor of the 4th of July EA is running a sale on some of their iOS and PC download games. There are over 50 iOS games on sale. Most of the iOS games are $0.99 and this includes titles like Dead Space and NBA Jam. For the PC download sale such titles as Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 are on sale

"Set to ship in March, collectible company Epic Weapons will be releasing not just one but two Plasma Cutter replicas from Dead Space. Based on Isaac’s weapons from the first two Dead Space games, the Plasma Cutter replicas are in 1:1 scale, which for those out there means that they’re the same size as they appear in the game and aren’t a measly scaled miniature. Opting to go for the 1:1 scale is certainly cool, but it means that the price will be higher as the Dead Space 1 Plasma Cutter ret..."

It seems like we may have more information on the upcoming Dead Space movie than first reported. Check out the link to hear what the co-creator said of a Dead Space movie.

"Steam is currently selling the highly acclaimed horror shooter Dead Space for $6.80. That’s 66% off for the highly acclaimed predecessor to Dead Space 2, which will launch in just a few days on January 25. If you’re eagerly anticipating the launch of Dead Space 2 and for some reason missed the first game, or if you want to relive the adventure all over again, you should really take advantage of this weekend deal."

"As we reported yesterday, Sony is adding new games to the "Greatest Hits" collection. However, Sony has now confirmed that there are ten games getting added and not just the five that were showin in the Wal-Mart flyer. Expect to start seeing the fancy new red boxes and $29.99 prices at retailers in the next couple of weeks."

After critical success on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, Dead Space headed off to the Wii. Extraction isn't a port to the Wii, but rather a prequel. At GamesCom Dead Space's producer hinted that after beating Extraction, players should wait until the end of the credits as it will hint to the "future of the series". Could this mean new info on Dead Space 2?

"Fifth EA games franchise looks set for the silver-screen treatment

EA’s solid work in successfully bringing new games IP Dead Space to the market last year tastes that bit sweeter for the US publisher today with news that the franchise is to be spun-off into a Hollywood movie.

Variety reports that D.J. Caruso has been drafted in to direct the sci-fi horror flick, with EA co-producing it with Temple Hill partner Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

Temple Hill is also producing the currently..."

"Activision are building a new studio in San Francisco. But need people to work there. So to get the ball rolling, they've nicked two of the senior staff at EA's Visceral Games, the team behind Dead Space and Dante's Inferno.

Glen Schofield, who was general manager at Visceral, and Michael Condrey, who was chief operating officer, both let their colleagues at EA know today that they were off to work at the new studio, whose name and purpose is at the moment a mystery."

Though Visceral Games' lauded horror title Dead Space did well enough in the end with 1.5 million in sales, it didn't exactly reach Gears of War status, say. Turns out though numbers are actually about double that, with the studio's manager Glen Schofield estimating half of the people who played the game bought it used.

Oddly he cites only console figures -- what about PC sales?

Dead Space for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 is one of the best single-player games released in 2008. The horror video game almost included multiplayer, however, as Electronic Arts was planning to include a co-op mode until ultimately scrapping the feature.

"Electronic Arts employee Patrik Patel has cheekily updated his LinkedIn profile - revealing he’s working as a Technical/Development Director for Dead Space 2. Call us “obvious” but we’d assume the project has to be rolling before work can begin.

Perhaps we’ll see something at E3. Although don’t hold your breath. It’s unlikely this game will see the light of day until next year."

"After Electronic Theatre reported on the fact (with thanks to Blend Games) back at the start of March, Electronic Arts Inc. today officially announced that its award-winning EA Redwood Shores Studio has been renamed and re-branded Visceral Games to better reflect the studio’s culture, identity and focus on creating intense action-oriented intellectual properties."

It's a topic that has come up on various gaming sites recently... Many so-called "survival-horror" titles of this generation (such as Dead Space and Resident Evil 5) are taking more action-oriented routes to attract a larger audience, thus losing the "survival" aspect that many older horror games were known for.

But is survival horror slowly disappearing? Or is it simply evolving and adaptaing to suit a more mainstream audience? And if that's the case, is this change for the better?

The prequel to Redwood Shores' Dead Space is seeing some details pour in.

First, it's said to take place three weeks before the original's protagonist Isaac gets to the Ishimura, the ship we traversed last time. You start out on a planet before setting off, but things "turn nasty".

Next, you'll be able to play as two different characters, and one NPC is a heroine you must protect and save (not much of a heroine).

The flamethrower will be in the game, as well as a couple of different...

Electronic Theatre offers details of the forthcoming Wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction, prequel to 2008's Dead Space, including the very first official trailer released today.

"During a conference call today, EA CFO Eric Brown noted that both EA Redwood Shores' Dead Space and DICE's Mirror's Edge sold over one million copies each in 2008.

The figure includes all versions of the games that were released in 2008. The action-horror shooter Dead Space was available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, while the first-person parkour game Mirror's Edge hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008."

"EA just confirmed a Wii version of Dead Space in its Q3 investor call.

The firm said it is to focus on stronger marketing for Wii in the coming year, with Dead Space, new tennis titles, three MySims games and Hasbro brands

We’re a little unclear on release date for the new version of 2008’s celebrated horror, but this year is a safe bet. Mr EA’s call’s a little flaky in the quality department.

The news comes on the back of confirmation of a heavy Q3 loss for the developer."

"Kung Fu Panda Had The Best Video Game Animation Of 2008. Conversation Over.

Kung Fu Panda? Says who? Says the International Animated Film Society, that's who. The video game based on Dreamworks Animation's movie of the same name just scored an Annie, beating out Dead Space and Wall·E."

"If you want to learn more about the storyline of survival horror game Dead Space but are too cheap to buy the tie-in comic books, you're in luck: the first issue is now available at Newsarama for free.

The comic book series, six issues in total serves as a prequel to the game. The colonists of Aegis VII unearth a mysterious alien artifact and things go downhill from there. It was illustrated by Ben Templesmith and written by Antony Johnston (who also scripted the game itself)."

Well now this is good news. EA recently announced that they will be releasing their games on Steam. Well, now it has been revealed that the DRM protection of SecuROM that EA uses on some of their popular titles will be dropped for users that purchase the games on Steam.

"An abducted soul, a lifetime of sins, a journey to the depths of despair. Electronic Arts Inc. announced today that EA Redwood Shores, the studio behind hit horror game Dead Space, is making Dante’s Inferno – a Third-Person Action/Adventure adaptation of the medieval epic poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri..."

"Electronic Arts announced today that the critically acclaimed Dead Space will be releasing premium upgrade packs to provide the game hero, Isaac Clarke, an everyday systems engineer, with the ultimate Necromorph-dismembering equipment in his fight for survival aboard the space-travelling USG Ishimura. Players can experience the glory of strategic dismemberment November 13th on XboxLIVE! Marketplace worldwide and..."

"The most notable characteristic of Dead Space protagonist Isaac Clarke, besides the glow-in-the-dark welding suit he wears, is his silence. He doesn't speak at all throughout the entire game (unless you count pained grunts as speech). Isaac wasn't always this way, though..."

EA have become famous for making sports games, licensed games and rehashed sequels after sequels. Well EA knows that, and they plan on doing something about it. They are trying to change their image by bringing out new IP's such as Dead Space, Mirror's Edge and Spore. This is quite a good business strategy, but you have a long time to get to your goal EA.

Over at the Cinema Make-up School in LA, the web series titled 'Monster Makeover' lets you watch some talented artists turn people into horrible creatures that are found in video games. In the first video, they are using Left 4 Dead.

After each episode is put up, everyone has a chance to enter the 'Spine-Tingling' Sweepstakes, which gives you a prize package that includes an Elite version of the 360.

Looks like Microsoft is just in time for Halloween.

According to Variety, EA is planning on producing sequels to recent hits Army of Two and Battlefield: Bad Company. This news comes from EA boss, Frank Gibeau, who loosely confirmed EA’s plans for some new franchise iterations in an interview with Variety.

"As we’ve seen in terrible American remakes of Japanese horror film classics (The Grudge, anyone?), it’s obvious that filmmakers always want to use music and sound effects to their advantage when attempting to scare the pants off its audience. However, after such banal usage in 99% of the horror films released throughout the years, it tends to become familiar. When the music swells in a horrifying tidal wave of strings and accompanying instrument, we’re all ready to jump in our seats, expectin..."

It was announced a while ago that Dead Space was banned from China, Japan and Germany. Then rumors started flying everywhere that something was fishy about this ban. EA has responded and they have confirmed that this is true, the game was banned in all three of those countries. Which begs the question, how bad can this game be to get banned from Japan?

Dead Space may be releasing even earlier than expected this month but not everyone will be able to enjoy it. It has just been announced that Dead Space will not be coming to China, Germany and Japan on any platform. It has not even been refused classification just outright banned. While China and Germany have been known to ban titles before, Japan comes as a significant surprise. No reasons as to why yet.

Originally set for a Halloween release date, it was pushed up a week early. Set for and October 24th release date. Well some more good news has come, and it has been pushed up another week for NA. It will release on October 14th. If they keep this up, the game will release before October.

"Electronic Arts today announced that its new sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space will now be coming to stores on October 24th for the PLAYSTATION 3 and the Xbox 360. The PC version’s date will remain October 31.

The decision to bring it to fans earlier was due to completing the game early after months of polishing.

I guess Halloween isn’t that appealing anymore...personally, the earlier we play it, the better!"

Stephen Totilo found his Dead Space notes and one important thing he wrote down was about the TV's Dead Space devs are using to test their game out on. A Dead Space developer told him that he is testing Dead Space out on various TVs, one of them being a 4:3 standard set. Very good for anyone who has a standard TV, you won't see any small text or other screwy things.

Survival horror genre followers in need of more thrills and chills are probably itching to know what's been up with the development of Dead Space.

Well, according to Beaver the game is coming along very nicely. The game has reached the halfway mark of development, and the majority of motion capture and performance capture has been completed, giving the graphics end some much-needed headway.

They have also been working hard on temp-voice recordings that will be used in the game. They nee...

"Dead Space (Oct 31, 360/PS3/PC)

Dead Space feels eerily similar to Aliens, but the introductory trailer and our first hands-on demonstrated a level of suspense, mood, and intensity we haven't seen in a while. The premise: the entire crew of a deep space mining ship has gone missing, and it's up to you, the sole survivor, to rid the vessel of alien baddies. It should be noted that EA's survival horror only marginally beat out Left 4 Dead (360/PC), the fast-paced Zombie Killer by Valve with ..."

"Dead Space has been given an October 31st release date for both Europe and North America.

....

My biggest question is, will you be able to pause your game when trick and treaters come to the door?"

"You know how when you’re really scared, like seeing what you thought was just a mannequin leave its post in Condemned, or wondering why you can’t back up in BioShock only to turn around and see a splicer blocking your path? And you either pause the game to take a breather and gather your bearings, or you beat the hell out of them in a frenzy of fear with your 2×4/wrench and then pause the game to gather your bearings? Well, in EA’s upcoming Dead Space, this technique to ease the tension and g..."
