"Horror is a genre I never really explored in video games, but with the recent announcement of Resident Evil 6, I decided it would be rude not to talk about it. Most of my experience up until recent years was the terror of corrupted data, the fear I might somehow die before I reached the next save point and the concern that maybe, just maybe, I’d spent money on the wrong game and would have to spend the next few weeks exploring a terrible glitch-ridden world that bored me to tears. However, I ..."

"The dedicated journalistic team at Fox News were quick to see the dangers posed by Epic Games’ Bulletstorm. A full two weeks before the game even launched, Fox News had the prescience to declare that Bulletsorm would be responsible for a wave of rapes and murders. Fortunately our “Cleaner” teams managed to prevent the mainstream media from learning about the Bulletsorm rape gangs in [REDACTED] and the Gamestop shootings in [REDACTED], yet this game still caused widespread loss of life despi..."

"2011 has been a very well-paced year for gamers. We started out with a couple of hits in January and ended with a major release less than a week before Christmas. My favorites this year include horror, comedy, epic RPG’s, downloadable arcade games, and even a DLC pack from a 2010 game that was so good it deserves just as much honor as the full games. Developers are making great games at a faster rate than anyone can play them all, but here are ten that I thoroughly enjoyed."

"It's that time of year when Federal regulations mandate that all media organizations publish their Top Ten lists. All of Player Affinity's gaming department will be rolling out our choices for Best Of in these last few days of 2011, and the PC Department is starting off with Fergus Halliday's choices for Ten Best PC Games of 2011:"

"2011 has been a busy year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers alike. With a great amount of exclusives being released for the PlayStation 3, narrowing the list down to a top five is quite difficult. Add in some amazing multiplatform games also released this year, and the task is almost impossible. While I had the opportunity to play a lot of great games in 2011, the top five games I feel I must give a nod to are Dead Space 2, Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Kill..."

"The news shouldn't be surprising given that the company has already churned out a sequel to the original survival horror 3rd-person shooter, a prequel rail-shooter spin-off for the Wii (and PS3), a puzzle game, an awesome iOS and Android 3rd-person shooter, comics and a novel. However an EA insider claims that the company is basically just getting started with the franchise, and is looking at new ways to expand the Dead Space universe."

Electronic Arts is on fire with hit sequels this year. Four games, all of which are the second in their respective franchises, are multi-million sellers.

"Gamer Gaia: Steam Summe Camp PictureSteam Summer Camp is winding down to an end, but the deals are still as good as ever. Today has a great list of daily deals, with some new and great titles such as Portal 2, Dead Space 2, and Duke Nukem Forever all coming in with big discounts."

So if pay day just passed you by and you got all that money in your pocket just burning a hole, why not get some games."

2011 has been an interesting year for video games: there have been plenty of killer apps released already, and plenty more are announced for launch in the fall and winter seasons.

With that in mind, what are the five best games of the year – so far?

""Dead Space 2 is thoroughly faster paced and more exciting than its predecessor. Visceral have cut out all the unnecessary backtracking. Although this causes Dead Space 2 to be a linear journey, it's a hell of a ride to the finishing line. Dead Space 2 is explosive, exciting and easily on par with any big-budget blockbuster action flick. As Isaac makes his way through The Sprawl, he hangs upside down, falls down elevators, gets thrown into outer space, and fights his way down moving trains. ""

Online retailer Amazon.com has begun a new “Buy One Game, Get One at 50% Off” sale for select Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games.

"NoobFeed wrote: Thankfully, Dead Space 2 gives us everything we loved about the original Dead Space while also including more varied environments, a more personal connection with the characters, and some nice throwbacks to the first title, but it doesn’t shake off all of its disadvantages."

"Some are iconic games that help define a franchise's trajectory. Some are simply great, innovative titles that are breathtaking in their delivery. But they all have one thing in common: they are the most supreme sequels in the horror genre, and they all deserve top praise."

"All it took was EA CEO John Riccitiello saying "That excludes Dead Space because I think it will probably take Dead Space 3 before we get into that five million unit cadence versus say three, four.", and I had motivation and an excuse to talk about what I want Dead Space 3 to include. I really enjoyed Dead Space 2, and I judged it deserving of an 8/10 when I reviewed it upon release. However, I am a gamer, which means no matter how much I enjoy something I am never truly satisfied and always ..."

Many people live very busy lives. If you’re a parent, then you understand that after a long day, it's hard to find an opportunity to play your favorite games. Check out this story as we analyze three of the most wasteful tactics developers use to lengthen their games. Cheers!

Viseral Games really do live up to their name with this franchise. The second in the series certainly doesn't let up, but isn't just a simple ad-on or tidy-up of the first game.

Completely new game-world to get scared out of your wits in, and a great multiplayer experience as well.

Come check out OXCGM's in-depth review, loads of screens and 3 great vids.

It continues to amaze me that the business leaders of certain companies continue to give away information, thinking that there's not someone recording or listening in. Hear what EA said of a Dead Space 3. Cheers!

"After the brief introductory video to briefly recap the previous game and to set the scene for our hero's current quandary we will quickly find ourselves being attacked by a necromorph. Thanks to his condition, Isaac finds himself without the use of his arms thanks in no small part to the straightjacket he is wearing, so we'll need to make a run for it. Use the sprint button to run straight down the corridor laid out in front of you dodging the various necromorphs as they burst through the w..."

"When I say that piracy is not tackled positively this is because I do not count cramming every form of DRM (Digital Rights Management) known to man onto a disk to the extent that you must be connected to the moon's Wi-Fi hotspot to play and that the disk is registered to your tongue print. DRM is basically the methods of preventing games to be copied, ranging from a simple CD Key to some of the more extravagant methods. It can frustrate gamers, and more often than not the gamers that are bein..."

"In 2008 gamers were introduced to a brand new survivor/horror game in Dead Space. It was unlike anything seen in a video game from the hideous monsters, to the creepy soundtrack and the unsettling environments. It set the bar for the survivor/horror genre. Despite a few setbacks it was still a great game. Three years later and we finally have the long-awaited sequel Dead Space 2. Is Issac Clarke’s second nightmare into space worth exploring? Read on to find out."

"Set to ship in March, collectible company Epic Weapons will be releasing not just one but two Plasma Cutter replicas from Dead Space. Based on Isaac’s weapons from the first two Dead Space games, the Plasma Cutter replicas are in 1:1 scale, which for those out there means that they’re the same size as they appear in the game and aren’t a measly scaled miniature. Opting to go for the 1:1 scale is certainly cool, but it means that the price will be higher as the Dead Space 1 Plasma Cutter ret..."

"GamingShogun.com writes: "Dead Space 2 takes place three years after the events of Dead Space. The game begins with Isaac Clarke being awakened inside the future-equivalent of a 'padded room' after another outbreak of necromorphs has occurred. Dead Space 2 on the Windows PC platform is a complete step above the first game's PC port. The controls are smooth and graphics can be pumped up quite a bit over its console brothers...""

"We've managed to crawl out of our own dark machines in order to record another podcast. Included in discussion this week are Dead Space 2, Little Big Planet 2, the Bulletstorm and Crysis 2 demos, Demon's Souls, Resonance of Fate, Fallout New Vegas, and more.

This week's news consists of mostly PSP2... I mean NGP. We also greet the return of user emails, and a bit of movie discussion. Stay tuned at the end of the show if you want to hear some spoiler talk about the ending of Dead Space 2. U..."

"The biggest offender is the Call of Duty series. $15 for 3-4 multiplayer maps. That just makes me laugh, then I get sad because there are people out there that actually buy it. And that is the reason why they charge that price. They KNOW they can get it because the same people will mindlessly open their wallets and snag the new content. (Just a quick mini rant on Map Packs in general. A rant inside a rant? Talk about mind blowing. Depending on how a map pack is implemented it can completely r..."

A quick look at how much the pre-order DLC codes from the recently-released PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 game, Dead Space 2, are worth on auction sites like eBay.

"It's usually pretty easy for me to think of ways a developer could improve upon a game in its sequel. Such was not the case with the original Dead Space. The game improved upon the survival horror and over-the-shoulder combat systems of Resident Evil 4 while presenting a story that felt more like hard sci-fi than 'zombies in space'. The pace was measured and the puzzles were refreshing. It was one of my favorite games of 2008, but despite the cliffhanger ending I wasn't exactly holding my bre..."

"Dead Space was without doubt one of the best games of this current generation, the low budget meant that they had to exploit every trick in the book to create a game in which the fear of what was coming was far more terrifying than anything they could have produced on screen. The creepy dark corridors created an atmosphere of claustrophobic panic and the brilliant use of surround sound really made a game that was very uncomfortable to play. In fact I didn’t really enjoy it until I finished it..."

In two short years since Dead Space originally hit the market, modern day technology has allowed Dead Space 2 to become one of the most cutting edge games on the market. But they didn’t just stop with improved graphics. Dead Space 2 has figured out that it’s also the immersion and quick scares that makes a great survival horror game.

"People like to know the big names behind a game. Cliff Bleszinski, Shigeru Miyamoto, Will Wright - these are guys who deserve some major respect for the things they have done for games. However, for every fantastic title, there are often hundreds of people who helped make those games what they are. One area often overlooked is the soundtrack, the musical backing behind any strong title."

"The necromorphs swarm through the halls and crevices of The Sprawl with relentless brutality, shredding the populace and reconstructing the mutilated remnants into an army of deadly carcasses. Isaac Clarke, engineer and rare survivor of the Aegis VII incident, wakes in the psychiatric facility of the orbital station. He’s disoriented and bound in a straightjacket with no recollection of the past three years, but the violence around him is all too familiar."

Newegg is holding a promotion where you can discount Dead Space 2 Limited Edition (the first print Playstation 3 version of the game with the inclusion of Dead Space: Extraction) to under $50 with free shipping.

"So, are you done with Dead Space 2 yet? I know the game just came out but it seems EA has some DLC plans up their sleeves in the form of Dead Space 2: Severed. Severed is a two chapter, stand-alone scenario that brings back Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdock, two of the protagonists in Dead Space: Extraction. The story will run parallel to Dead Space 2 and feature the two fighting their way through the Sprawl. You take on the role of Gabe in this episode, making this the first time in the main De..."

"If no one in space can hear you scream, then you’d be forgiven for not knowing that Electronic Arts plans to release Dead Space 2 this week. Of course, if the necromorphs infected you with a desire for more Dead Space after one of their previous games, you’re likely bouncing off the walls of your home as if there wasn’t any gravity inside.

A pair of RPGs round out the rest of the major new releases this week. Square Enix will be bringing action RPG Lord of Arcana to the PSP while SouthPeak..."

"Brilliant isn’t it? If you think that this is the case, then you are in fact twelve years old. At least, according to the commenting portion of the internet you are. Personally, I am not twelve years old and I still loved it. I was already planning on buying Dead Space 2 so it is not actually going to make me buy the game, and the simple premise of mothers not liking it isn’t going to make anyone over the age of twelve buy it. But that does not mean the advert is aimed at twelve year olds, es..."

Dead Space 2 continues the story of Isaac Clarke. The game changes the gameplay up a bit while retaining a lot of the elements that made the first Dead Space so memorable. Check out BrightHub's Dead Space 2 preview for more on this upcoming horror shooter.

"This year has seen some of the most anticipated games ever and many lived up to the hype. Others lay strewn on the battlefield, only the ghosts remaining to remind us what could have been. Sadly, this will be the last ever game of the year, as the world is ending at some point next year so it’s a good thing this is a bloody brilliant list. Let’s kick it off with the most original introduction to an awards list ever; and the nominees are..."

With 2010 drawing to a close, it's time to look forward to the next year. Here are the ten most exciting video games of 2011! It's looking like it's going to be a very, very good year for games.

As opposed to the collector’s edition, the regular edition of Dead Space 2 on the Playstation 3 will be getting a demo to Dead Space Extraction instead of the full product.

"At this point in the day, everyone is in official work blow off mode. It’s a Friday, last day of work for some before the impending Holiday week and that of course means people are going to do wacky stuff or have fun at the office. Hell, I’m even going to bailout at some point next week and just chill playing DC Universe Online on my PS3. But for Dead Space protagonist Isaac Clarke, the office is always a dangerous place, especially if you have a cubicle over a vent."

The Entertainment Software Rating Board has released a rating summary for Dead Rising 2, detailing the game’s blood, gore, intense violence and strong language.

"Let's face it; Metal Gear Solid 4 was basically a film anyway. If ever an example is needed of a game that gives more time to cut scenes then it does to gaming, MGS4 is it. Did that make it a bad game? No. And that fact in itself proves that Metal Gear Solid could be the basis for a fantastic film."

"If you’re a fan of snowboarding, there’s little doubt that you remember what it was like to play SSX for the first time. The thrills, the trick system and the curvaceous course designs were out of this world. It was a game that took a piece of Tony Hawk and combined it with the finest racing mechanics to produce an experience that would be remembered for years to come."

EA had created a successful new IP when they released the original Dead Space. Although the first game was a one person game only, they announced that a multiplayer mode would make its way into the sequel, Dead Space 2. All Age Gaming's John Elliott previews the multiplayer mode and lets us know what to expect from it come the games release in January 2011.

Leave it to dead space to take perfectly innocent child lullaby and complete twist and dement it up. But man does it work. They first did it with twinkle, twinkle little star, now they have done it with ring around the rosy. Check it out below.

"There was a great moment, 12 years ago, when the tension and the terror had finally taken its toll, and I was forced to put down the controller and walk away from what turned out to be the scariest game of the ‘90s: Silent Hill. This was the first – and only – time in my life in which a game was so scary, and made me so agitated, that I physically and emotionally needed to take a break. It was a huge accomplishment in game design, and I haven’t had that feeling since. Not while playing a game..."

If you want to partake in some multiplayer murderous mayhem involving both alien/insects and human exterminators capable of some serious dismemberment then you will want to participate in this giveaway contest where hundreds of Dead Space 2 codes will be given out.

"In all honesty, I did not expect to be as impressed with Dead Space 2‘s multiplayer beta as I was. The Dead Space I know is all about being alone and terrified. The slower-paced intensity was perfectly matched with hectic combat, and I was absolutely sure that the same kind of feeling could never be captured in a multiplayer mode. Visceral Games proved me wrong."

"When Dead Space launched back in 2008, it literally managed to turn us as (well as a whole number of other men) into little girls. In short - it was that scary. In typical “big name publisher” fashion, EA have decided to release a sequel to their highly acclaimed sci-fi horror. We managed to get our hands on some of the single player as well as the multiplayer beta."

Online retailer Amazon has apparently revealed the contents for the Collector’s Edition of the upcoming PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 game, Dead Space 2.

"This week's podcast has a shaky start as two hosts are absent, the has a shaky end when one comes back. Don't worry though, it's still interesting with discussions on Dead Rising 2, Minecraft, Dead Space 2, Halo: Reach, and more.

The news stays strong, and we answer an e-mail question about pinball machines. Andy's book club also returns."

"What I remember most was the fact that Isaac, bogged down as he was by the suit that faciliated his survival in space, couldn't run. Unlike other self-respecting protoganists, who would roll dextrously out of the way and execute brilliant acrobatics to escape their foes, Isaac could only plod determinedly away from the game's menagerie of nightmares."

"This week we somehow manage to talk about games other than Planet Michael such as Civilization 5, the Dead Space 2 multiplayer beta, Halo Reach, Minecraft, the Gothic 4 demo, and the upcoming World of Warcraft patch.

We also continue our newly changed news format with the whole gang bringing up articles. We stay strong with a user e-mail regarding the hard hitting questions of deep fried Moro Bars. And then Andy forms a BonusEXP Book Club with the help of Oprah, JOIN TODAY!"

Just simply click like and you can get details on how to sign up. Quite a simple procedure to get your hands on the online mode before anyone else.

"Dead Space 2 is not due to release until early 2011 but EA is already gearing up for the recently revealed multiplayer by sending out Closed Beta Invites to select Playstation Network users.

On September 26, from 8:00 PM PST to 10:00 PM PST the development team will join the multiplayer fun according to emails sent out to users this evening.

Dead Space 2 is set to release on January 25th for Xbox 360 and PS3."

Visceral Games wants to make a continuing series of Dead Space games. Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis claims it all depends on how well the second one does.

When we were invited to test out Dead Space 2’s new online multiplayer mode, we had our doubts. But we realized after extended play that our fears were for nothing, and found five reasons why the new mode combines the best of other games for a sweet package that will appeal to any gamer.

"Dead Space was simply one of the best games ive ever played the atmosphere created, the suspense, the original gameplay aspects and weapons all made this a brilliant game. It has since spawned movies, comics and other spin offs. So i was delighted to hear that come Jan 25th 2011 we will again get to take up to exploits of Issac Clarke and the Necromorphs"

"After watching this rather dismal E3, I’ve come to terms with something I’ve been denying for several years: survival horror—my favorite genre in all of gaming—is on its deathbed, and despite all of my false hope, I realize the time has come to write the eulogy.

It hit me when Sony showed the trailer to DEAD SPACE 2. Now, unlike most people, I wasn’t a huge fan of the original (I know, sue me) precisely because I didn’t find it scary. Creating a loud, bombastic soundtrack and covering the ..."

The media got a chance to play the latest build of Dead Space 2 at EA's Studio Showcase event recently. Here's the full control scheme revealed for the first time to the anticipated sequel to Dead Space.

"We just got back from EA's massive Studio Showcase press event and we're already in awe at how diverse their lineup continues to be year after year. We were treated to several hands-on demos that we just can't talk about yet, but we can show you some of their newest screenshots on many of their most anticipated upcoming titles, including Dead Space Ignition and Dead Space 2."

"Lots of really great games were being showcased at EA's big press event today. Some new announcements, and lots of hands-on. However due to a number of embargoes, the media has to hold back in covering this following list of games"

"Electronic Arts has been on a roll with the EA Partners program. Perhaps you’ve heard of Rock Band, Left 4 Dead, and Crysis. The program put EA back on the maps of hardcore gamers, and shed EA’s snakeskin as the company for sequels and yearly sports titles with new rosters, and little else. It’s now safe to speak about love for EA in public without being ridiculed for falling prey to “the man.”"

"We know Dead Space-dev Visceral Games has had its eye on the downloadable space -- along with the rest of EA -- for some time now with the oft-rumored Jack the Ripper title and something else. Well, that something else is Dead Space Ignition, "the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2," says Dead Space franchise exec producer Steve Papoutsis.

From what we can gather from the press release (embedded after the break), Ignition is a "Choose You..."

SideQuesting - With a stronger focus on plot and a refinement of visuals and weapons, Dead Space 2 looks to be a solid, impressive follow-up to the original hit. Full E3 impressions follow.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo is the event where most video game companies like to show off their games, usually with top not trailers. Here are the top 10 must-watch trailers at E3 2010.

"Some great news for Sony Playstation fans who feel that maybe they didn’t see enough exclusive content coming their way. Visceral Games, one of EA’s subsidiary studios, announced exclusive content for the PS3 version of the Limited Edition of Dead Space 2. This isn’t your typical exclusive skin or piece of DLC, no, Visceral is packing in Dead Space Extraction on the Limited Edition of Dead Space 2. Dead Space Extraction was the critically acclaimed prequel game for the Dead Space series that ..."

Today Electronic Arts have confirmed that they will be showing a huge line-up of quality games at this years E3 which starts next week. With titles like Dead Space 2, Crysis 2 and Fifa 11 on show, this years E3 will be a big one for the big time publisher.

The official box arts for the Windows PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions the upcoming survivor horror title, Dead Space 2, were revealed today by Electronic Arts.

"Since the dawn of gaming, players have spent most of their time doing harm to creatures of various sorts. Some of the original games saw you chomping ghosts or blasting invading aliens from the sky. In most games it’s done for some noble or legitimate purpose, i.e. rescuing others or yourself from certain doom, saving the planet from a hostile takeover or foiling a villain’s plans for universal domination. The various minions you might have to defeat in droves over your quest are many and var..."

EA has announced that Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age 2 will both be released in Q4. There seems to be a bit of confusion over whether this means 2011 or 2012, but it seems to indicate 2011.

Other titles out in that period are sequels in the Need for Speed, The Sims and Spore series, as well as a fighting game. A sequel to Crysis and a new Harry Potter game are on the cards for Q3, presumably to tie-in with the first film of Deathly Hallows. Star Wars fans might be disappointed; The Old Republ...

"Rely on Horror: It’s been brought up that Dead Space was going to ‘up-the-action’ if you will. Now some say this is because the original game was just too scary, or hard. We acknowledge that Dead Space was, and still is, pretty scary—but that’s what keeps websites like ROH in business and is a big part of the game’s appeal. What made you want to have a bigger focus on action? Is there anything that you can say to the players out there who might be worried that the series might be losing i..."

"The original games demo arrived a month after the game released, which was too late for a large amount of people who had already moved on to other games and lost interest in Dead Space."

During their PAX East 2010 panel, Visceral Games discussed the possibility of adding 3D support to Dead Space 2. They also seemingly confirmed a PC version of the upcoming horror game.

Have you ever thought you had the perfect way to kill an enemy in a game? Visceral Games is letting gamers submit their own ways to kill enemies in their upcoming sequel to Dead Space.

"Video games have much in common with movies when it comes to scare tactics. Both rely heavily on music and sound effects to create suspense and atmosphere. EA Redwood Shores' 2008 sci-fi horror gem Dead Space is a prime example, taking home awards for Audio of the Year and Sound Design of the Year at the seventh annual Game Audio Network Guild Awards. And, as anyone who's played the game can tell you, those awards are richly deserved. From the disturbing audio logs of the U.S.S. Ishimura's cr..."

Some brand new screenshots have surfaced for Dead Space 2. These screens are all in-gaming showing Isaac fighting off necromorph in a giant, futuristic city.

"Bad news, PC gamers: It looks like there will be no Dead Space 2 for you!

EA's third quarter results for the fiscal year 2010 are about what you'd expect: Lots of numbers, talk about things like non-GAAP net revenues, upbeat sound bites from various executives and all in all, as the saying goes, dull as dirt. But there is one bit of information that's of interest to more than just accountants and analysts: Way down near the bottom is the list of EA's "key titles" for the 2011 fiscal year, ..."

Michael McWhertor discusses part of what John Schappert said during financial calls. EA has decided that every game they make in 2011 will have DLC and Online Play.

""We've got two main teams; we've got some supporting content for Dante's Inferno coming out, but we'll mostly shift our attention to Dead Space 2," Visceral senior VP Nick Earl told Industry Gamers.

"The first one was well received, and we want to take advantage of that start with something that has tremendously wide appeal.

"We're more focused on the action than the horror this time. We're more empowering to the player. We've got a lot of feature innovation and we feel comfortable bec..."

"EA's narrowed down the release dates for its big upcoming titles, including Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2.
