"Spiders and scorpions are never heroes. They don't get to be the star of a movie unless they're eight feet tall and have a healthy diet of humans. Thus, their appearance in video games has often been restricted to random enemy encounters, which can be very depressing for them. How are arachnids going to make ends meet in this lousy economy? What are they supposed to do with their lives - hang from ceilings and terrorize children?

Now here's a pretty good week -- looks like things are picking up following the holiday swing.

F.E.A.R. 2 is out for console and PC owners while Onechanbara treats Wii and Xbox 360 owners alike to hot bikini-clad girl zombie slashing; Deadly Creatures and The House of the Dead: Overkill provide Nintendo fans with some non-shovelware for a change, and PSP owners get LocoRoco 2, the only game really of note for the handheld in recent memory.

"I must admit it was pretty difficult to choose the “finalists” since there are over 50 Wii games to be released this year (at least this is the number we know of!). What we can’t be sure of is whether the combat will hold up for the game’s entire length. From what we saw, it was not a mindless button masher – a good ways from it. If they can keep us on our toes by maintaining a continuous stream of..."

"Last week, we had the opportunity to check out Deadly Creatures and speak with its lead designer, Jordan Itkowitz. The game looks great, and we look forward to covering it up to its February release. If the games scale and graphics aren’t enough to get you excited, Mr. Itkowitz’s enthusiasm for his IP and the Wii will push you over the edge. While the Wii hasn’t been the best home for third parties, Itkowitz hopes Deadly Creatures will set the ball rolling in a more positive direction."

Don't let the name fool you, it's a rather violent game! You take the role of two different creatures, a scorpion and a tarantula, and use them to kill other creatures.

The two offer different styles of playing. The scorpion is all about upfront action while the tarantula offers stealth. Like anything they gain experience, learning new abilities as you go. You will also encounter bosses, believe it or not. These present you with much bigger targets like snakes and humans.
