""Previously on The Backlog: I’d taken a job as a writer for a video game website where I offered pithy observations about old games. I had wanted to write a piece about how much I loved Alan Wake, the cult-hit Xbox game about an overly verbose writer who was trapped in one of his own stories. Unfortunately, the game didn’t fit in with the premise of my column. In The Backlog I was supposed to comment on games that I hadn’t gotten around to playing yet, but I’d already played Alan Wake ove..."
"So the big release season is just beginning, and those of you with deep wallets are rushing around pre-ordering every top game before each emerges onto store shelves.
"But what about those who can only afford maybe one or two new releases, or maybe none at all yet? There’s a global economic slowdown on after all.
"Well at OXCGN we’ve decided to put ourselves in the game Animus and go back in time to discover what titles we enjoyed this gen that you should be able to get for cheap (and..."
"The Walt Disney Company is reportedly seeking to fully buy out UTV Software, which is the parent company of Ignition. Disney already owns 50.4% of the company, but has offered to buy the company in full for 454 million dollars. The reason for the proposed acquisition lies mostly with UTV's reach in the realm of Bollywood films and TV shows, so a full takeover would mean all of that belongs to Disney."
"From the developer of the massively successful cult horror Deadly Premonition comes a new project – all that is missing is a publisher. Deadly Premonition hit the gaming world by storm, landing itself very mixed reviews. It will be very interesting to see what the developer has up his sleeve."
An auteur is, in film, a director who maintains complete control over the creative process and infuses a distinct personal style in his or her works. A video game auteur is someone who manages to have games that feel distinctly theirs, with strong narratives, styles, and a loose adherence to typical conventions. They are people who create that certain kind of game you can't find by anyone but them.
"The beauty lies in what is communicated to us from the game, and in how we respond to its resonance. They don't need to be complicated or elegant, but they must introduce characters and ideas that stir us, tied into a story that has something grander to say."

We've each offered up our own favorites for consideration -- games that stuck with us, games that blew us away, games that defined the year as a whole. But we could only choose fifteen. We have the final selection for you here."
Some video game characters are heroic, some sexy, others silly. And then there are these folks, who are tougher to get a handle on. Presenting the most mysterious video game characters of all time.
"Let’s get this out of the way: Budget survival horror title Deadly Premonition was coded in 20 minutes in the back of a moving van. Walking up a set of stairs in-game is even more difficult than dragging my fat ass up the stairs in real life. Characters inexplicably hunch over at 90 degrees to show you that they’re old people, bippity jazz lounge music doesn’t match what’s on the screen, inane and poorly-scripted cut scenes go on for an eternity, and you know it’s the bad guy when he comes al..."
On this weeks episode of the onCAST video game podcast Ronnie and Andreas discuss Skate 3 and Splinter Cell Conviction for what they have been playing along with March NPDs and more in news!

"Deadly Premonition is absolutely amazing, and to prove it, I present to you the greatest cutscene in videogame history.
There is too much brilliance to list. The music, the contrived nature of the comedy, the facial expressions, the fact that the woman explains how a town clock works; just everything about it is perfect. Oh, and the sound on the video is not screwed up. The music actually is too loud, and that bit where the woman's voice is barely audible is part of the game. That's h..."
"When we judge a game like this, how do we do it? Do we judge simply on gameplay? If so, the repetitive combat and long drives around town may very well mark it as a mediocre title. Do we judge it on story quality? If so, then we have a game that makes no sense and frequently makes light of murder and sexual deviancy. I say a game needs to be judged by how often it made you happy, how much you laughed or became excited, and how long you spend thinking about it after it was finished. If we judg..."
When Deadly Premonition was first announced, survival horror fans were thrilled at the idea of a new title joining the rather small collection of horror games that have been released this generation. But does it live up to the survival horror genre? Or is it just a dud?
JustPushStart reviewed the game to find out. Go to the source for the full review.
"Special Agent Francis York Morgan’s investigation is in full swing as he questions Greenvale Art Museum owner Diane Ames in the latest character profile trailer from the upcoming survival-horror title Deadly Premonition. The game is coming exclusively to the Xbox 360 on February 23, 2010."
"The story behind the Red Seed Murders in the upcoming survival-horror title Deadly Premonition begins to unravel further in the rural town of Greenvale, with the introduction of the inquisitive Ingram Twins in this week’s character trailer."
The debut trailer for upcoming PS3/360 survival horror game Deadly Premonition has been released, and it's...bizarre. Seriously, I have no idea what was going on in that video! It might not be the game that survival horror fans have been hoping for, but this litle indie title might be worth checking out once it's released...
Although the recently-revealed horror game Deadly Premonition was previously announced as an Xbox 360 exclusive, it looks like that may not be the case any more. According to Scrawlfx.com, the ESRB have rated the game for PS3 too. If this is indeed true, it will be nice to see the PS3 recieve a new (and much-needed) horror title.
There is currently no confirmation on this, so I'll stick this in the "Rumor" category for now.
"Deadly Premonition, developed by Access Games, is a third-person survival horror action game which puts players in the role of the intuitive FBI Agent Francis York Morgan. In the process of investigating a murder, players will examine a series of interlocking mysteries in a remote rural town and will encounter an array of complex characters pivotal to the unraveling of the storyline’s mystery."
"If Rainy Woods was something you have been following (for years now…) waiting and waiting for just the littlest ketchup squirt of information, I advise your waiting to end. Rainy Woods, a horror game originally planned for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 by Marvelous (with their partner Ignition, once again such as with their recent Muramasa), has been halted due to its similarities to the TV series Twin Peaks. It was more or less scrapped, though the developer Access Games has gone back to the cho..."
