"If ever a gaming genre has become a lightning rod for brow-knotting aphorisms, it’s real-time strategy. Conventional wisdom dictates that RTS has failed to crack the console market in this or any other generation, despite repeated attempts from talented teams, and its native PC home has been relentlessly attacked by pirates in recent years. It’s a two-pronged assault to which even the biggest names in games have apparently no answer, say the worriers."
"The Electronic Sports League (ESL), Atari and Gas Powered Games, developer of the real-time tactical game Demigod, have issued a challenge all European players to do battle against their masters. The best Demigod 3-on-3 team that emerges victorious from the Battle the Developers Cup gains the privilege to compete against the game creators around Chris Taylor."

"GameBiz: GameStop recently broke the street date on Demigod, and you've said that it could be a test case for just how rampant piracy is. Is it a problem?
Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock: We know that piracy exists in massive levels. We don't put any copy protection on our retail CDs. We do know, because our games connect to our servers, how many people are playing the pirated version. It's huge. I mean HUGE.
Demigod may be the most popular game in a very long time based on the numbers we..."
"More and more, the lines separating video game genres are being blurred, combining gameplay mechanics to create interesting new fusions. Gas Powered Games contributes to this growing list with Demigod, a strategy title that lead designer Mark Marr describes as an "RTS-RPG."
Demigod carries all the basic elements of RTS, and if I were to forcefully categorize it, I would still call it such. But key features set it apart from other RTS titles, and various complexities place Demigod in a le..."
A short but kind of sweet release list this time.
PC owners are treated to Demigod, a game which fuses too many genres to count and looks to be rather fantastic (we'll have a review up Tuesday on Neoseeker) and horror-ish title Cryostasis, one we've never heard of but could be great (it's been getting some favourable reviews and has a rather unique plot).
DS owners, meanwhile, are treated to two more Atlus-published RPGs: Dokapon Journey and The Dark Spire.
Unigamesity considers 2009 to have the potential of becoming the biggest year in gaming and presents us with their list of the most anticipated PC games of the year. Check out the quote for the full listing (10 games).
"Chris Taylors team at Gas Powered Games are creating something very original and exciting in Demigod which expands the possibilities of PC strategy gaming, said David Gardner, CEO of Infogrames, the parent company of ATARI.
This agreement with Stardock brings a great addition to our 2009 line up as we head into the next phase of growing our distribution business...."
"What sort of game is Demigod? Is it an RTS game? Is it an RPG? Is it an action game?
Demigod is an action game that uses the core of RTS principles with a heavy blend of RPG elements. You fight and play the game as an RTS, but level up, purchase abilities in a skill tree and buy items like you would in an RPG."
"Developer Gas Powered Games stopped by to give us our first look at the second hero class, generals. Generals are weaker when in close combat and prefer to inflict damage from a distance. To do so, they summon and command minions that can be ordered about the battlefield to do your bidding. Generals gameplay is similar to that of an RTS game in which you click on multiple units and send them to perform different tasks. Though the gameplay of assassins and generals isn't as deep as you would s..."
The UGO Games Blog recently got their hands on Demigod, a RTT (Real Time Tactical), which is a game that "forgoes the trappings of building construction and unit management to allow the player to focus on the action at hand." Throughout the game, you're playing as a demigod (partly human and partly divine). You become enraged about not being considered a god, and to prove yourself, you need to fight the other eight demigods.
UGO notes that the game never pauses, even when you're heading in...
With first mention of the game in 'Games for Windows' magazine and with a feature on 1up, Demigod is from the creators of Supreme Commander. The gameplay seems similar to Supreme Commander with the exception of all the mythilogical beasts and armies you can obtain. The style of zooming out to view the entire battle field or zooming in for some nice action shots will be present in Demigod as was seen in Supreme Commander.
Today Gas Powered Games has announced a publisher and an estimated re...
