"It's been a long-running complaint that games are too expensive. With literal metric boatloads of games coming out every month, and at a $60 price tag, it's not an invalid complaint, either. In just this October, it'd be easy to break $200 on just the more anticipated games, if you were going all console-releases. It'd be even more than that if you wanted to pick up games that could be considered “major releases.” That's a lot of money, yo."

Gus Mastrapa of Joystick Division explains how videogames (among other things) offer respite from impending doom. The best thing you can do in life is to find joy and forget for the briefest moment, that we are all dust.
Have modern games gotten easier? It seems the games of today are a lot more easier, excluding Demon Souls. So why were games so much harder back in the late 80s and through the 90s? Was it because gamers didn't have gamefaqs? Do gamers just have too many distractions these days so modern games have to be easier?
Over the past few years, we've started to see a new wave of innovation in the multiplayer landscape. Check out the full story to see the five most innovative modes to come to this generation of consoles.
Video game difficulty has declined the past few years. With the introduction of the casual market, developers have had to find ways to entice a brand new audience, It's much easier for someone to pick up a game and enjoy it if it's easy. ""Among the many RPG’s that have been churned out over the last few years few have left a lasting impact upon players in the way Demon Souls has. The standard was set with series like Final Fantasy, Oblivion The Elder Scrolls and the Fallout series there is no shortage of triple A standard RPG’s so to stand out from the crowd you have to do something incredible. A new edition hoping to etch its name into RPG’s greatest games is Demon’s Souls developed by From Software and published by Namco Ba..."
"Though it sometimes seems like the console wars will never end, in reality, all three companies have found a hefty segment in today’s industry. There’s no doubt that the PS3 struggled upon its release, and the PSP seems to have been lagging behind the DS for years, but that doesn’t mean Sony hasn’t built up an impressive collection of exclusive games between the two consoles. From the award-winning to the slightly overrated, here’s the top 10 Sony franchises of the current generation:"
"The whole BonusEXP crew, one half of which is injured, is here to chat about video games. This week we discuss Magicka, Dead Space 2, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, Call of Duty Black Ops First Strike Map Pack, Venetica, and Doom 64 for some reason...
We also discuss the latest gaming news, consisting mostly of Namco game announcements, and some brief casual discussion."
"What we're led to believe about Dark Souls is that it will take what works from Demon's Souls and ramp up the "go screw yourself" but doing so with a fun interesting amount of personal freedom. I personally can't wait to scream at the television while it kicks my ass in ways I didn't know where possible outside of a prison fight."
"We've managed to crawl out of our own dark machines in order to record another podcast. Included in discussion this week are Dead Space 2, Little Big Planet 2, the Bulletstorm and Crysis 2 demos, Demon's Souls, Resonance of Fate, Fallout New Vegas, and more.
This week's news consists of mostly PSP2... I mean NGP. We also greet the return of user emails, and a bit of movie discussion. Stay tuned at the end of the show if you want to hear some spoiler talk about the ending of Dead Space 2. U..."

Many people complain about game length, with people feeling that their $60 investment is not worth the short gametime. However, one person has managed to do a speedrun of one of the hardest games out there, Demon's Souls, in under an hour.
"A recent discussion came up in my home last month as we were moving into our first real home. See what happened was that we were without TV and Internet for about a week because our cable company decided they just didn’t care that I requested a service transfer two weeks before my move. They cared even less that they assured me 4 times that it would be taken care of. We spent 8 days without television or internet and the question came from my fiance “How are you not bored like I am?” My respo..."
"My backlog is an ever expanding monster that I’ll probably never defeat. There just isn’t enough time in a day, and enough days in a year to whittle away every game I haven’t beaten yet. Even with a backlog of unfinished titles and the prospect of even more new, great games on the horizon, I often have the urge to go back and replay a few favorites."
The vast majority of people thought that Demon's Souls was one of the better games to come out last year, but they are all sorely mistaken. Matty from Defcon: Awesome breaks down the top 5 reasons why this game is anything but awesome.
"For those of us who are now stepping into exam time, you’ll discover that your gaming habits will have to change or else the marks that once made your folks proud will suffer an astounding blow and put you in your parents bad books."
"A thrifty gamer is a happy gamer so we've scoured the Sunday ads to find the best video game deals for this week from local stores for the Playstation 3, PSP, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC for the week of May 9, 2010."
The PS3 has been out for a few years now and has gotten a lot of flack for lacking strong titles. Here are a current top five games for the system and unsurprisingly, they're almost all exclusives.
"Dengeki is either playing games with our hearts or a big announcement concerning Demon's Souls is possibly coming our way very soon. In the latest Dengeki Games podcast, they hint at a big announcement of an unannounced sequel to a title that was released last year and it'll release this fall. The title is described as very hard and interesting -- exactly what Demon's Souls was."
The Playstation 3 has plenty of great exclusive games. Unfortunately, some of those titles don't get the recognition (in terms of sales) they deserve.

"There were many great games that released in 2009 and there were also some pretty bad games. Much like a book, you can't judge a game by the cover. Some games have beautiful box arts, but the game itself is terrible, while others have great boxes and are great games. It's time to look at the best box arts that the video game industry had to offer in 2009. Some may surprise you, but others will likely not. Some of these games were great, while others were forgetful."

"This years GOTY award for the Playstation 3 is named "Lowest Install Time" for two reasons. The first is that we are fans of irony, and the second is that Allegedly Speaking does not condone the handing out of compliments without some form of backhand attached to it. With that in mind, here are your nominees..."
""The fall of the JRPG in large part is due to a lack of evolution, a lack of progression," Zeschuk said. "They kept delivering the same thing over and over. They make the dressing better, they look prettier, but it's still the same experience.
"My favorite thing, it's funny when you still see it, but the joke of some of the dialogue systems where it asks, 'do you wanna do this or this,' and you say no. 'Do you wanna do this or this?' No. 'Do you wanna do this or this?' No. Lemme think -- y..."
"It happens every year. Both journalists and hardcore gamers flip out over a video game, giving it numerous awards and high scores. Then we sit down to play this supposed virtual epiphany and have no idea what they're talking about. Welcome to the most overrated games of 2009, a collection of massively hyped and underwhelming titles that never deserved so much unnecessary praise, even from us. With that, let's begin."
This week, Yahtzee dons his shiny armor and silly hat, and goes to war with Demon's Souls, only to be chewed and spit out like a piece of old bubblegum. Watch the full video of his daring exploits at the source.
Ironically, the list dubbed "Ten Games to Cross off Your Child's Gift List" almost certainly contains at least one game that if on ever member of Neoseeker's list this holiday season.
Now while I'm sure the Times *scoff* has their reasons to dislike this list of mostly shooters and questionable ethical decisions, but that's the main draw (at least for most gamers)
"Playstation 3 owners have a few great games to choose from for the holidays even if the majority of games are multi-platform. Choosing one of them for the PS3 console might be dependent of many factors such as what consoles you own and how the game differs from console to console. Here is a list of the top five games that I recommend people to put on their list of either games to ask for or games to give."

"I can hear what you are saying to yourself right now, and your cheetos are in the second drawer. (Underneath where you keep your silverware.) That's not what you are thinking? Oh. You are questioning my title with outrage and anger. "Why Hamsterfist you are crazy!" There are plenty of great games released this fall, none of which are disappointing. Now who's the lunatic? You, my dear reader are. But the advertisers and game developers thank you for rushing to the defense..."
"Demon's Souls is by no means an easy game but only a month past its North American release, it's already gathered a huge fan following (and is a likely shoo-in for numerous best of the year awards). The game separates itself from other RPGs with a near-vertical difficulty curve that demands the respect of anyone who dares trespass in its cursed lands. It's also a very unorthodox RPG, and one that refuses to play by long-set JRPG precedents. Those differences make Demon's Souls a very unique g..."

"I've been playing the game. A lot. And I love it. A lot. The other night I spent hours with it, and in those hours, all I did was farm the same sections again and again, futz around with my gear, gain a few soul levels, and kill one Vanguard demon - and I killed him by shooting about fifty arrows into his forehead while he just stood there scratching himself.
If you’d been sitting there watching me, you would have been screamingly, knuckle-suckingly bored. In fact, my wife kept walking by ..."
"Like any good, balanced RPG, Demon's Souls is all about attention to detail. Your goal is simple: eradicate the demons that have descended onto the mortal realm. The problem lies in the absurd power of these beasts. As a hero of men, you are limited merely to a mortal's strength, physicality, stamina and abilities. Your foes, on the other hand, are unnervingly strong, and more often than not, dwarf you in size and scale. And you are far from a plucky youth that happens to hold within him (or ..."

"It is almost Halloween, and as we all know Halloween is about scary things. Unless you’re a woman, then it’s about going to a party store and buying a costume that could be most easily described as “slutty [OCCUPATION]“. I doubt any of our readers have to worry about encountering these though, so here is a list of some of the scarier games out there to keep you occupied. This isn’t your standard list though, as I am avoiding the things you normally see, such as, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, an..."
"Around February/April I forked out £39.99 on a risky eBay seller to get my hands on the Asian edition of Demon’s Souls (Which had the complete English setting on disk). If you’ve been a long term regular to Resumeplay you may, or more like may not, have read my initial review/preview of Demon’s Souls some time back in early May. "As far as I’m concerned, video games will always be about immersion. You can throw score multipliers at me and I’ll have a good time, but if you hook me and make me feel like a part of the world you’ve created, I’ll have an experience I may very well carry with me for the rest of my life. This concept is especially true for RPGs."
"This article was inspired by an interesting article by G4TV, pointed out to me by a rather repulsive specimen of our species earlier today. This is in no mind a critique of their opinions on Halo 3: ODST – unless they resort to full blown lying about the game, they’re as welcome to their opinions as any one else. The article’s basis is interesting however, in how it views ODST as catering to a risk-taking style of game development. That is, give your long-time players a completely different e..."

"We're not in the business of reviewing games we don't finish, so I'll say right away that I did not finish Demon's Souls, the latest action RPG for the PlayStation 3. Because of this, we will not be giving it a review score this week. This write-up is going to have to suffice. Sorry.

"Every once in a blue moon a game comes along that challenges your abilities as a gamer. Demon's Souls is one of these games. With its enemies that one-hit kill you, and traps that are hell-bent on seeing you dead, Demon's Souls pulls no punches. It is by far one of the most difficult and challenging games that you will ever play. However, I will not declare that it's a game only for the hardcore. No fellow gamers, this is a game that is only for those with an abundance of patience and de..."
Spawn Kill finally gets to review the Atlus RPG that has been on everyone's lips. If you have a PS3, you're probably planning to get this game. Either way, Atlus has released a new trailer for their upcoming epic title Demon's Souls. Atlus has a habit of going that -- making epic games.
The trailer is named "Visceral Action," for obvious reasons, and narrated by a rather over-dramatic voiceover.
"Demon's Souls is one of those games that can pull off darkness, but still be visually stunning. As you'll see in our gallery below, there's almost always a source of light in the darkness, and that usually comes from someone kicking someone else's ass. And then there's that one picture that looks like a pile of wrongness, seen above. Nasty. What is that? Let me guess: it's something you'll have to fight."
"Armored Core developer From Software is teasing something which will be revealed in eleven days. The only clue they offered is this blue cube.
Tenchu Go? Another Another Century's Episode? Don’t jump out of your chair or anything. From Software’s last countdown was for a slew of PS2 to PSP ports. We’ll find out what this is on August 20, unless Famitsu scans leak it first."
Atlus has just announced in a press release their pre-order bonus for Demon's Souls has just gotten even more generous, expanding to include the game's entire musical score.

Let's face it. Without the XSEEDs, Atluses, and Working Designs of the world, playing these odd games from Japan in English with no real Western backing would be a wet dream. We would at the mercy of the giant publishers and their wholly-established brand names, and at the general blandness of video games today. The mainstream US publishers have stopped to consider what Japan has to offer, and even the big publishers from Japan only localize their bigger games.
But these are the compani...

Demon's Souls has been lingering just outside of North America's reach for many months now, taunting gamers with promises of hours of gameplay, innovative online designs and engrossing atmosphere and setting that is seldom found elsewhere. Coming from FROM Software, Demon's Souls is a hack 'n slash RPG involving one solitary hero in a kingdom devoid of life, where a gigantic demon has eaten all the souls in the realm. Having just recently attained a North American release date of Fall 2009, g...
"One of the odder things about video games is all the work that's put into new ways of killing virtual enemies or having one's own character meet their doom. Atlus' Demon's Souls showed a new twist at E3.
The hook for the game are the ghosts that appear. They appear to be other players' characters or enemies running in unexpected patterns through the levels that you're playing, but not quite. They're not, the developer playing the game in front of me explained, programmed by the Demon's Sou..."
"Atlus U.S.A. announced today that they have secured the North American publishing rights for Demon’s Souls, a groundbreaking action RPG experience for PLAYSTATION3 system. Beautiful, compelling, and unforgiving, Demon’s Souls is the hardcore RPG experience PLAYSTATION 3 system owners have been waiting for since the platform’s launch.
Demon’s Souls for PLAYSTATION 3 system is scheduled for North American release in fall 2009."
"Obviously your first question is how could I come across a copy of Demon’s Souls while living in Northern Ireland? Simple answer, Demon’s Souls has already been dubbed and translated into English in Japan and the retail version there is easily ordered via Play-Asia or, slightly more risky, Ebay. So anyway, what do you know about Demon’s Souls? Or a better question, what should you know? Well for a start Demon’s Souls is developed by From Software and is legally a PS3 exclusive game that is cu..."

"From Software is a strange and fascinating developer. Mention the name and Armoured Core is what usually springs to mind, or occasionally Otogi, but when it's not making mech games From's output encompasses a vast range of extremes - cutesy co-op platformer Cookies and Cream, Tenchu, card-battler Lost Kingdoms, horror adventure Echo Night, broken, miserablist cult series King's Field. And this, the most interesting PlayStation 3 exclusive I've ever played."
Demon's Soul, the PS3 exclusive hack and slasher by the people at FROM Software has received not just one but two of its very first reviews from Japan. Famitsu has given the game 9, 7, 7, 6, equaling 29/40, and Dengeki awarded it a more positive 95, 85, 85, 85, adding up to 350/400. Details on why it was given these scores is still scarce.

Remember how Sony promised 11 unannounced PS3 titles to feature at TGS? The same titles which have been strangely absent despite one or two here and there? Well the full list of titles has finally been revealed. And it turns out we've all been tricked, or rather tricked ourselves. You see Sony said they were unannounced titles, but never that they were new titles. These games had yet to be announced to appear at TGS, so there never really any new games to begin with, the large majority of th...
Previously we were told what games would have trophies from Leipzig, and we've gotten a similar sort of list with new games which have been confirmed to be getting trophies on release:
