Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

"Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies also marks several firsts for the main series. Not only the first to be initially launched for a handheld system, but also Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is the first game in the Dragon Quest series be designed primarily with the intent of being a multiplayer videogame."

"The Dragon Quest IX-themed bar “Luda’s” in Roppongi (Tokyo) recently welcomed its first customers, many of whom enjoyed making silly faces at cameras and sexually harassing the barmaids while pretending they were characters in a grind-heavy RPG.

Patrons enjoyed linking up for some DQIX, eating from a slimey (in the Dragon Quest sense, not the literal sense) menu, and generally soaking in the somewhat surreal environment."

Square Enix announced today that first batch of the Dragon Quest IX Ultimate Hits games come packed with a special card that players can use to unlock a special fully-playable version of the arcade title Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road II Legend.

"As of this writing, we’re already three weeks into 2010. The “new” year is already practically ancient, and pretty soon we’ll have run out of time to make wild, erratic, entirely factual predictions about things that will happen over the next 11 months. So with January nearly over, we’re going for the jugular and answering the question that’s on everyone’s mind: between the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC, which gaming platform will claim victory by the end of this year.

The Nintendo DS has always gotten great exclusive games thanks to its overwhelming popularity in addition to the unique features. The currently announced 2010 DS-only lineup is already looking pretty solid.

"Dengeki has released the results of a readers poll in which people voted for what they thought was the best game of 2009. A list of the top 20 has been published on their website and Final Fantasy XIII has managed to secure second place. Although there has been a backlash of Japanese fans who have complaints ranging from Final Fantasy XIII's linearity to there being no levels, it still seems to have won people over."

"A jolly guy in a red suit is visiting the world of Dragon Quest IX via a free downloadable quest. His name is Mr. Claus and he lives on a frozen island in the north.

Mr. Claus cares for a horse and is looking for a certain item. You, being a hero, step up to the task and go on a quest to find it.

Neat to see Square Enix making seasonal downloadable content. Reminds me of the Santa cameo in Secret of Mana too. Now to wait and see if this quest along with the dozens of others come to Nort..."

Dragon Quest IX has amassed some impressive sales figures in Japan in its short timespan. But just who were the people behind these numbers? In a questionnaire conducted in 4 Japanese districts, 99 buyers were asked to briefly answer the three questions. The results might be pretty surprising, revealing people from various age groups and occupations.

"Amazon Japan may not love DS role-playing-game Dragon Quest IX. That's a-okay. Know why? The country's biggest game mag totally loves it.

Famitsu has given DQIX a perfect 40/40 score. "This adventure is amazing!" Famitsu writes. "It's so much fun." The reviewers also praised the music and the multi-player, which Famitsu called "ground breaking". The publication calls the single player "fun" and states that "the story is easy to follow and straightforward, but also with moving scenes as well.""

Square Enix's hot DS RPG, Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, put up some impressive numbers this past weekend, and now the publisher has announced that the Level-5-developed title has now shipped three million copies in Japan. This puts the shipment numbers of the Dragon Quest series at 50 million units total worldwide.

Draogn Quest IX will see a Wi-Fi quest update on July 17th. The game's official site can be found here.

Released this past Saturday, one of the biggest games of the year, Square Enix's RPG Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito for the Nintendo DS has launched to great fanfare and dubious trolling. With the game's two million preorders in mind, sales tracker and Famitsu publisher Enterbrain has revealed that Dragon Quest IX has sold 2,343,440 units in its first two days on the market in Japan.

Comparatively, Dragon Quest VIII for the PlayStation 2 opened to launch week sales of 2,223,700...

Despite the large number of Dragon Quest IX preorders in Japan, it looks like Japanese gamers are unhappy with the game now that it has been released. Japanese gamers who bought it on Amazon, that is. The site currently has hundreds of negative reviews for DQIX. Ouch.

An organized effort to slam DQIX? Or a genuinely bad game?

There are two new CMs for Square Enix's upcoming DS RPG Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito:

Dragon Quest IX releases in Japan this Saturday on July 11th. The game's official site can be found here.

Never discount the selling power and market strength of the Dragon Quest series in Japan. Final Fantasy what?

Japanese newssite Inside-Games reports, according to information from the Nikkei Industrial Newspaper, that Square Enix's upcoming DS RPG, Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, has totaled over 2 million preorders at Japanese retailers. Those retailers have also been heavily promoting the title ahead of the game's release.

"After witnessing the sheer awesomeness of JRPG titles such as Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS, I am pumped about the prospect of more flashy-looking additions to come later in the year and at the dawning of 2010, namely Nostalgia and Dragon Quest IX. As I have mentioned before, my opinions of JRPGs polarise depending on the game in question; overload it with too many teenage heroes and tight-zipped clothing and it’s probably a no-go (apart from De..."

New screenshots and details are available for Square Enix's upcoming RPG, Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito for the Nintendo DS. This time around, it's more in-depth about the game's job system.

Naturally, each job will have its own unique skill set, following much in the vein of Dragon Quest VI. You can earn skill points on level up that can be applied to learn more skills for that class. You can choose whenever you want to spend these skill points from the menu. If you learn a...

For Square Enix's upcoming DS RPG Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito (Defenders of the Starry Sky), the player's user-created characterse can explore the game's world with a treasure map in hand, and hunt for treasure as a part of its side missions.

"There's been some confusion about Dragon Quest IX co-op play. Is it local only or does it using Nintendo's WiFi connection? Just imagine playing DQIX with faraway friends!

Square Enix PR clears up the issue with this: "From the beginning of development, co-op play hasn't been via WiFi, but rather DS wireless play."

So there you go, bye-bye confusion and bye-bye DQIX WiFi dreams."

Many people have noticed that it's been a while since we last heard anything about Dragon Quest IX. But Square Enix are still adamant that the game will release in Japan on the 11th July, today releasing a brand new trailer and confirming that development of the game has now finished.

Nintendo's made some announcements regarding games that will be hitting Japan during summer. Japanese gamers get to look forward to the Wii Sports Resort bundle which will be released on June 25. Monster Hunter 3 will be releasing on August 1 with a Wii bundle and details have emerged about the pay-to-play service. "Payment tak...

"What is Square Enix expecting? Sales, lots and lots of sales. (That being said, these estimates on Square Enix's part do seem rather conservative for both titles being released — however, Yoichi Wada did state that these projections do include DQIX and FFXIII. Eidos also factors in as well, so these numbers are kinda low, no?)"

"For her, it's a matter of life or death.

Japanese film actress Keiko Awaji wants to play new Dragon Quest and pronto. Awaji, who has appeared in over 160 movies since 1949 including Akira Kurosawa's police noir Stray Dog, said this about DQ, "I won't live forever. I'd like to play two more games... I really want them to put out a new game once every two years." Don't we all Awaji-san, don't we all."

"According to Japanese news site IT Media, Wada added, "There is a possibility that Dragon Quest IX delay could effect Final Fantasy XIII." Wada, however, did not explain how it could affect the-long-in-development and eagerly awaited FFXIII."

""If I think about hardware the news is already out so looking at software, on the Square Enix booth I'm interested in seeing how much of Final Fantasy XIII is finished and presented," he said. The level to which the game is presented will give a clue as to when it might be ready and that will have a direct impact on sales of the PlayStation 3 console.

After we found out before that the latest game in Square Enix's flagship series, Dragon Quest IX, finally gets some semblance of a real release date this time. Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest IX will be releasing in March 2009 in Japan, with a specific date currently not set.

The official site for Dragon Quest IX can be found here. It will be at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2008, where it will have a stage event devoted to the game.

According to Square Enix President Yoichi Wada, the upcoming Level-5 developed Dragon Quest IX will be released in early 2009 in Japan. After going a long stretch with no new information, Dragon Quest IX will make an appearance at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2008. An early 2009 release for DQIX would mean that the upcoming Dragon Quest VI DS remake should hit sometime later this year.

In the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, talented Japanese game developer Level-5 has announced that it will be holding a press conference: Level-5 Vision 2008 in Japan on September 26th. Everyone (Sony fans, and Final Fantasy fans) seem to be clamoring about FFXIII not being PS3 exclusive. This isn't the first time this has happened ladies and gentlemen. Lest you forget that VII (arguably one of the best in the series) was originally intended for the N64?

GamesRadar goes through a list of 10 more titles that brought out a similar reaction with fans.

"According to Cosmo Securities analyst Takashi Oka, Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX on DS, scheduled for release in Japan in November, will sell five million units in Japan alone and should generate revenue of $190 million.

"It's not surprising Dragon Quest IX for the portable console sold twice as many units as a version for stationary game machines,'' Oka wrote in a Japanese-language report (translated by Bloomberg)."

IGN got ahold of some new screens and info about yet another Dragon Quest title. This one will be out July 17 in Japan, so we can probably expect this one (hopefully) in time for the holiday season.

And in case you're confused, the DQ IV remake (also for DS) was released in Japan in November. Gamers here are still awaiting news on a local release, which should be soon. Dragon Quest IX is a brand new title for the DS which developer Level-5 has said it "hopes to finish work on the game some...

The annual Top Ten Vaporware Games of 2007 went up recently, and looking from the list, most of the winning games are PS3 titles--more specifically, PS3 titles that are yet to be released. Well, the rules for this list don't exactly follow the ones of the usual ones. The major one being that the games don't need to have a 2007 release date on it. However, for it to make the list it needs to have attained a certain level of "hype."

And it's no surprise that the No.1 on this list is the much...

In the recent Famitsu issue here are the top 20 games most wanted from Japan's biggest games magazine. It's a really interesting list as what dominates the list in being No.1 is Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS and then followed by Final Fantasy XIII which was at No.1. Third place comes the highly anticipated Resident Evil 5. A list containing top notch games. Too bad only one game from 360 makes it.

Some new Japanese Shonen Jump magazine scans for the first DS entry in the Dragon Quest series. Battles seemed to have shifted back to a menu-based system compared to the real-time hack and slash we first saw last year, though you can still see foes on the field before engaging. This is a nifty compromise for those who felt the real time battles would shake too many roots. Player characters also appear customizable right down to their facial expressions.

Dragon Quest IX is now back to the top of Famitsu's Most Wanted chart for the dates of March 30 - April 5. The list is populated with six more Square Enix titles:

· Final Fantasy XIII is ranked 2.
· Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is ranked 11.
· Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is ranked 13.
· Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is ranked 17.
· Final Fantasy Versus XIII is ranked 18.
· Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War is ranked 20.
