"Shin Sangoku Musou 5: Empires (otherwise known as Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires outside of Japan) is the latest instalment in the long running franchise published by Koei in conjunction with the Omega Force development team. Set in the historic backdrops of the Three Kingdoms of ancient China, I have been an avid fan of this hack and slash strategy based game since it first appeared on the PS2 back in 2000."

"With this being a Dynasty Warriors home console release, there will of course be a large amount of time spent claiming battlefields and storming through hundreds of on-screen enemies, but to suggest it ends there is a bigger deceit than the lack of an addition to the game’s numerate value. An equally absorbing portion of the game lies within its strategy element."

"The core gameplay remains the same, and the fans wouldn’t have it any other way. Taking to the battlefield as your chosen character the player is tasked with eliminating the enemy leader. Players cannot take the enemy’s Main Camp without a supply line running through from their own Main Camp, and so some maps will hideaway their trophy kill until the player has established a connection. There is no mission variation as seen in other Dynasty Warriors titles as the game has less of a prescribed..."

Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires is out today, June 23, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, at least in North America. It's also when KOEI officially lifts that embargo on reviews.

So here's Neoseeker's take on the latest Dynasty Warriors title. Fans usually expect a little more from Empires, and there are some neat features to check out. If you're not crazy about KOEI games though, you might want to pass this one up.
