Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce

The creators of the Dynasty Warriors franchise have been getting away with making the same game for the past 11 years. Here at GameRabies, Senshaitian gives his opinions on how he feels about this 11 year trend.

"Already established as one of the UK’s leading entertainment events, Memorabilia is adding another string to its bow by expanding the videogames’ presence at this month’s show. A trio of major games publishers will be making the trip to the NEC Birmingham for the Spring Memorabilia Show on 27th-28th March 2010, adding the chance to play the hottest new videogames to the show’s ever-growing list of attractions."

"The Dynasty Warriors series is often accused of becoming stagnant. Since reaching it’s fourth numbered entry – bearing in mind of course, that many titles have received alternative or enhanced versions – many gamers would be willing to suggest that the formula hasn’t changed beyond adding new characters and rearranging the layout of the expansive maps. Fans of the series, of which there are many, would of course argue the inaccuracy of this belief, and the newest piece of evidence in their ar..."

"Ever wondered what would happen if you mixed an intoxicated aussie bloke that spoke like Niko Bellic (GTA4) and made him think he was agent Smith from the Matrix? The answer is in this weeks episode of ThumbPad Season 3 Episode 4, so kick back grab a beer and take a listen to this jam packed ep full of gaming goodnes.....or should I say drunk group of gamers?"

Dynasty Warriors is a household name for many hack and slash fans. And although other action series, such as God Of War and Ninja Gaiden Sigma, are known for their seamless storytelling or polished graphics, Dynasty Warriors has is famous for the vast amount of enemies the players must face at once.
Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce is the seventh instalment in the series, and as a port of a PSP game, has made some major changes to the classic formula. But does it stay true to the series’ roots?

"As would be expected, the combat in Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce follows the traditional set-up – Square for normal attacks, Triangle for heavy attacks and Circle for Musou techniques, once the appropriate bar has been filled – and the enemy artificial intelligence (AI) has only received minor refinement. What has changed, however, is the degree of which Dynasty Warriors has begun to plumb the depths of fantasy. The characters have always been larger-than-life in many ways, and the advent of..."

"Dynasty Warriors is a prime example of “love it or hate it”. While some find the game redundant, mindless, and lacking innovation, others see it as a majestical dance in sunshine sugar fields of orgasmic pleasure—just brimming with armed bodies to decapitate as you please.

I fall into the latter category, loving the damn things like a hobo loves liquor.

Which brings us to Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce. I missed the PSP version which launched last April (though I did catch the demo which ..."

Icrontic takes a look at Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce, the newest entry in KOEI's epic Chinese mythological combat tour-de-force, and comes away with a simple summary: It's better than its predecessors, and surprisingly deep for a button-masher.

"In 2009, KOEI released Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce to PSP, so many found it strange that a console port would be heading to Xbox 360 and PS3 so soon. Then again, many simply joked that quantity was always the franchise’s best quality."

"So how do you start off the year without a Dynasty Warriors title? Well, you don’t. That’s why Koei brought the once, PSP exclusive title, over to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The title did fairly well (check out the full PSP review here) but was nothing spectacular. Now, you would think since the game is now on consoles it would be a ton better right? Well, that’s where the problem lies – it’s actually worse."

"With the new year, as expected you can count on Koei to release yet another game in the Warriors series. This time they are doing it with a port of Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, originally developed for the PSP. With the game being a direct port with only minor changes and additions you can take a guess at how the game is going to play out on current generation consoles."

Yet another set of screenshots in for the upcoming Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, a team-based installment in the series that looks quite promising, actually.

These depict character Tian Lu and the mighty Wei Phoenix.

"Further to this however, Tecmo Koei Europe has revealed another pre-order incentive, available exclusively with pre-orders from HMV stores and online. Three in-game quests will be available via an unlock code to those who pre-order at HMV."

"Set for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next month, it was recently revealed that each version would feature a series of exclusive crossover characters. The Xbox 360 version will benefit from appearances by some of the more popular characters from Warriors Orochi 2, while the PlayStation 3 version has certainly been granted some attention for the inclusions of cameo’s by some of the cast from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, the PlayStation 3 exclusive that launched in October last year. Fu Xi, Nu..."

"Following the revelation that Tecmo Koei’s forthcoming Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will each feature exclusive crossover characters, Electronic Theatre has received a number of new images revealing Ayane and Nu Wa. Ayane will appear alongside Ryu Hayabusa in the PlayStation 3 release, while Nu Wa will join a cast of characters from Warriors Orochi 2 in the Xbox 360 release."

"Set for release on February 19th 2010, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce is set to introduce several new game elements exclusive to the home console version of the game. Including over forty home console-exclusive missions, command of up to three AI-controlled officers, an enemy “Hyperbreak” gauge, the ability to plan special combat tactics, new playable character “Meng Huo” and online officer trading, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is set to be the definitive version..."

"Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce takes place in a mystic version of ancient China where warriors possess the power of “Fury”. This power gives them superhuman strength, lightning fast speed and the ability to fly. Taking the role of any one of over 40 playable characters, up to four friends can go online to launch raids as a team or battle it out competitively."

"With screen-filling boss fights and dynamic aerial gameplay, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce presents an adrenaline-pumping brawler that will undoubtedly shoot straight to the top of fans of Tecmo Koei’s most wanted lists."

"The two games were as different from one another as two Warriors games could be, though, of course, both games stuck to the Warriors foundation of controlling a historical war hero as he or she beats several thousand enemy soldiers on a crowded battlefield. Both seem like high-quality entries, each offering compelling reasons for lapsed combatants to return to the fight."
