"So it has been a few months since the first few comparisons that we did in Part 1, so it is once again time to compare a few sequels and their respective predecessors – some new and some not so new.
As previously discussed, games do have it a little easier than films in that they can rely on game play to make a game better, not simply the characters and plot line.
If a games plot and characters are weak, it is still possible for it to be a successful and even good game – if the plot an..."
The official box arts for the PC Windows, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the much anticipated first-person shooter, F.E.A.R. 3 (also known as F.3.A.R.), have been revealed.
Today Warner Bros. released their supposed 2010 games line-up, including a new Batman game and FEAR 3. Unfortunately that list was quickly taken down, either because it was leaked too early or because it wasn't accurate, so I'll stick this in the 'Rumor' category for now.
Ah it's that time of year again, when you're going to be browsing websites or running to the mall for last-minute gift-giving. I mean, really, who does Christmas shopping before the week of? Pfft.
So here's part one of our annual holiday guide. In these pages you'll find hardware and video game gift ideas. Basically we look at our reviews from 2009 and gather them up if our staff liked the products. If you're wondering why we haven't included any of the major upcoming titles, keep in ...
"F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn immerses gamers in the chaos of Alma’s aftermath in an entirely new role: that of Replica Soldier Foxtrot 813. Gamers begin the mission as part of an orbital Powered Armour drop to reinforce their squad, and the ruined city of Auburn emanates supernatural events and familiar voices, beckoning Foxtrot 813 to go against orders from Replica command. Be careful, not everything is as it seems…"
"There is just something about hospital levels in games that send shivers down the spine.
Many games, from the recently released Wolfenstein, to Max Payne 2, to Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway, to Left4Dead, make us nervous spending time in these ominous dens of sickness, madness and death.
In the gaming world hospitals are often atmospheric places where demons lurk in the basement, or gown wearing zombies charge from every corner, or mad torturing doctors await, or we are confronted by..."
It has been announced that the excellent single player mode of FEAR 2 will get four new levels on September 4 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Also, a new Premium theme on the 360 will be released on August 13.

"New to F.E.A.R. are the down-sight aim and the ability to pilot mechs. When I heard you could pilot mechs in F.E.A.R. 2 I was somewhat sceptical as I wasn't sure how well that would fit into a FPS."
Nothing But Shooters reports on the upcoming map pack, Armored Front, for FEAR 2: Project Origin. It will consist of two new maps and is scheduled to arrive on May 21 on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network.
"Shooters truly are a haven for folks that enjoy inflicting massive amounts of pain on the enemies they encounter in games (read: not in real life). It’s good, harmless fun and a nice way to release some pent-up frustration without causing any property damage (or doing anything else you shouldn’t do that would land you in hot water).
Of course, there are certain weapons that are much more adept than others for this purpose. So here is a look at some of the most sinister weapons that we’ve c..."

"Video games allow us to enter worlds and scenarios in which we couldn’t possibly take part in in the real world. You may battle aliens on a distant planet. Or you may fight the Reich in a WWII shooter. The possibilities are endless, because what can be done in the realm of imagination is endless. So why do we continue to return to the same enemies that we’ve killed thousands of times before? The straightforward answer? Because they’re safe."
If you like to have DLC for your games, but don't like paying for it, then the DLC for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is for you. The Toy Soldiers pack will be coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network in Mid-April.
The DLC includes maps, a premium theme, and a picture pack.
GamingShogun reviews Monolith's FEAR 2: Project Origin, giving it high marks for immersive supernatural creepiness. They also praise the ending for being one of the most 'messed-up' in history, although they do stipulate that is said, 'in a good way'. After playing the game, I would agree, but I digress. For those of you unfamiliar with FEAR 2, it is basically a first-person shooter game set inside of what could be called a horror movie. It has copious amounts of gore, scares, and action.
"F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, will deliver a new dimension of paranormal horror, cinematic combat and highly kinetic action with the release of new Downloadable Content that will be available beginning in April."
This week's Zero Punctuation has Yahtzee taking on F.E.A.R. 2 with his usual wit and satire. While he makes some fair points about the game, I am one of the few who didn't play the original, so perhaps I'll find the second F.E.A.R. more appealing than he did.
"FEAR 2 received a lot of unintentional publicity early in production as developer Monolith split with the publisher of FEAR 1, Vivendi. While this happens frequently as studios switch publishers, in this case Vivendi still maintained ownership rights to the name FEAR despite the work already started by Monolith of a sequel, hastily renamed Project Origin.
While thats all done and sorted with the FEAR name being returned to Monolith to make FEAR 2: Project Origin, since then theres been l..."
"Horror. Pure, unadulterated horror. F.E.A.R. 2 picks up 30 minutes before the conclusion of the first game. Youre Michael Becket, a member of a Delta Force team tasked with taking Armacham president Genevieve Aristide into protective custody. As it turns out, the mission doesnt go according to plan (what a surprise, right?). As you approach Aristide, the psychotic and powerful Alma unleashes her wrath upon the city of Auburn, which culminates in a massive explosion that the Manhattan Projec..."

"8.5 Presentation
The story takes a bit of time to spool up, but the second half of the game takes off. There are plenty of answers this time around, as well.
8.5 Graphics
The visuals feel workmanlike, but with some outstanding special effects and lighting. It looks good on the consoles, but far better on the PC.
8.5 Sound
Sound plays a big role in providing atmosphere, and there are noises in this game that can raise the hair on the back of your neck.
8.0 Gameplay

"According to the research, which marks the launch of videogame F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, over a third (34%) of Brits are getting ready to act with caution and look out for signs of good or bad luck this Friday 13th fuelled by fear and paranoia around these testing times."
Now here's a pretty good week -- looks like things are picking up following the holiday swing.
F.E.A.R. 2 is out for console and PC owners while Onechanbara treats Wii and Xbox 360 owners alike to hot bikini-clad girl zombie slashing; Deadly Creatures and The House of the Dead: Overkill provide Nintendo fans with some non-shovelware for a change, and PSP owners get LocoRoco 2, the only game really of note for the handheld in recent memory.
Enjoy, hmm?
"Now you can yell shenanigans at us for the screenshots, but these are press shots not our own. However, due to this particular circumstance, I thought it would be proper to do a comparison to the screenshot comparison issued to the press. So without further ado, heres a screenshot comparison to the press release screenshots. The first two shots are from the press circuit and the bottom two screenshots are from the actual F.E.A.R. 1 game. The final comparison is our own side-by-side compariso..."
Electronic Theatre details the announcement of Warner Bros.' F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Live event, due to be staged in London ahead of the games' European release.
"With the constant back and forth between the horror segments, the shootouts with the Replicas, and the mech fights, Monolith does a fairly good job of keeping the player entertained and at the edge of their seat. And, unlike Halo or Rainbow Six, the game does not rely too heavily on a single element, thus giving the player a sense of suspense and excitement as to what lies ahead."
Gamers who want to give the horror FPS sequel a shot can do so now on any of its platforms, though for PS3 owners, you'll need to be a Qore subscriber. The demo offered is for the single player mode.
Xbox 360 owners, go here (or just download via XBLM), and PC gamers go here or here.

Monolith's Dave Matthews, primary art lead for the forthcoming F.E.A.R. 2 mulled over the non-Monolith expansions and ports the first game received in an interview with CVG, stating they "killed off a few" fans.
Well, they're taking full control now, at least over the ports, which will be consistent, unlike last time. Say goodbye to suffered console ports!
"Strategy Informer: The influence of J-horror movies like Ju-On The Grudge is quite obvious in the FEAR games. Are there any film references in FEAR 2 that you're particularly proud of?
Dave Matthews: If you like a lot of John Woo style action films, you're going to see a lot of those kinds of influences. Movies like The Killer, Hard Boiled; you're going to see a lot of elements that make for great translations into an interactive component. Coming back to some of the horror aspects, you've..."
Video gamers keen on F.E.A.R. 2 will want to check out this interview from the Guardian's Keith Stuart, who speaks to the game's lead designer Dave Matthews (not that Dave Matthews).
It gets into the game's influences, why horror doesn't have to be confined (literally), and how their technology benefits the 'is this real?' aspects of the gameplay. Read on!
You might remember Kotaku receiving a mysterious case, well it seems like Kotaku isn't the only person to receive on of these cases. Youtube celebrity PhillyD announced that he also received one of these mysterious cases. So far all we know is the case has to do with F.E.A.R 2 and a code to open will be announced on Dec. 5. As for know, we don't know what could be in the case. Could be a never before seen footage or the ghost girl that could kill the case holder.
A mysterious letter shows up at one of Kotaku's writers door telling him to go to an exact location. The location turns out to be an old warehouse and inside a mysterious case that came along with it a video message. As for now, the mystery continues but so far Kotaku knows that it has something to do with F.E.A.R. 2. Click to read the whole article and watch the mysterious video message.
"Well seems like the Australian OFLC has done it again and have RCed (refused classification) Fear 2: Project origin. Monoliths sequel to the hit FPS F.E.A.R which was released for the PC in 2005 a year later for the 360 and then again the next year for PS3.
510Over at the Neogaf forums a user by the name of Darklord posted a thread with a link to the OFLC website for everyone to see that F.E.A.R 2:Project Origin has been refused classification. The reason as to why is has been refused cla..."
