The top twenty-five best-selling used games in Japan for 2009. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies on the Nintendo DS lead the pack in terms of second-hand sales.

Dave Hoffman of Square Enix hints that the Project X (which is a codename) RPG that have been teasing for the last month may be developed by a western studio.

"Gamers have seen few franchises with histories as impressively deep and memorable as the Final Fantasy series. Besides being known for great story lines lovable heroes, Square/Enix's uber-popular franchise is also known for having some of the meanest and most evil baddies in the history of video games."

A while back, it was revealed that GRIN's unannounced Final Fantasy title hadn't actually been cancelled, and had instead been pulled by Square Enix after only six months of development due to quality concerns and placed under the wing of an unnamed studio.

Well, a tech demo for the game has been leaked onto the 'net. It is a sequel to Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, and will be released on PS3, 360 and PC.

Akitoshi Kawazu, Square Enix developer, has said that he wants the Final Fantasy franchise to last forever.
In a recent interview, Kawazu was asked if gamers will ever see a final Final Fantasy. He said:

"One thing is certain when you have to pick a cosplay babe of the week. You can't go wrong basing it on a female character from the Final Fantasy series. This week delivers another winner with Final Fantasy XII's Fran. Fran ranks right up there with Rikku and Tifa. And the young ladies who coplayed Fran made sure to due her justice."

So, does anyone remember GRIN, the Swedish developers that closed down shop a while back? The developers of Bionic Commando, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, and Terminator: Salvation were purported to be working on an unannounced Final Fantasy title. Everyone thought that with GRIN's closure, the project was dead.

Sources close to GamesIndustry.biz have now learned that the title is still in development, as Square Enix had pulled the project from GRIN after six months of development due to qual...

Sony has pulled a brilliant move by re-releasing a the God of War series on Blu-Ray. Featuring HD and trophy support. The game will be released some time before the 3rd installment to help build up hype. This is a great move that a lot of other companies should follow. So, what other games should get re-released on the PS3. Follow the link to read on.

"It has been revealed today that the recently closed Swedish videogames development outfit GRIN, responsible for Capcom’s Bionic Commando earlier this year, had been working on a new Final Fantasy title for Square Enix prior to closing their doors."

"A couple times over the past few years, we've decided to sit down and take a good, cold, hard look at the PlayStation 2's library and select the best of the best to let you know what our favorites were (and are). Even though the system is fighting with every last breath to stay alive, it's still surprising to us that new games continue to creep into our list. So, because it's been a while, we figured it was time to look at our picks again and update our choices for the best 25 PlayStation 2 g..."

When asked which Final Fantasy game should be remade, most fans will say Final Fantasy VII. Psxextreme.com has held many polls on the topic and always end up with the same result. But with so many great games in the series, FFVII isn't the only one that deserves to be beautified for next-gen consoles.

So psxextreme.com asks the question: Besides FFVII, which FF game would you like to see remade?

"Since the company was founded in 1983, Squaresoft has had a reputation of making good-quality video games. Since its first title to hit the North American market (Rad Racer back in 1987 for the NES) and through today the ratio of high-quality to low-quality games has greatly skewed toward the former. The company is now known as Square-Enix thanks to a merger with animé, manga, and video game company Enix."

"It is unfortunate that in the real world, there are certain types of people who just look like sex offenders. Whether they are or not. Peter Jackson, for example, wouldn't look out of place with his trousers round his ankles, running through a nursery and being sick all over himself. Same goes for Geoffrey out of Rainbow. There are certain people that, should it come to light that they've been arrested for some hideous sexual misdemeanor, we wouldn't be surprised. This is why it's so easy for..."

"JC: I force myself to play some games...like Final Fantasy XII. I had to struggle through because of all the [endless quests]. Even though I really wanted to know how the story ended, after a couple weeks I had to just give up. The chore of making your character gain more experience to complete the game had no relevance to real life. And that is where a lot of games lose people."

By now I'm sure we're all aware of Resident Evil 5's racism issue, but racial stereotyping is an issue that seems to go beyond beyond just one game.
Darion White, from Edge Online, takes a look at the way black characters are portrayed in video games, both the positive portrayals and the negative ones.
The article mostly focuses on newer titles, such as Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4, while also taking a look at the games of a decade ago, including Final Fantasy...

"Everyone remembers Final Fantasy X one of the most renowned and loved Final Fantasy title out there - at least on the PS2. The games that were released after that FFXI & FFXII were good, but many didn't consider FFXI to be even part of the series (I know I didn't), and FFX-2 & FFXII got mixed feelings (though I was one that loved and enjoyed both the games, albeit I didn't like the story of either too much, the gameplay was addictive enough for me). The one thing many people bring up and reme..."

Within the past several years, Square Enix has been on the ball with remakes of their classic Final Fantasy games. And rumors of a remake for the huge and popular Final Fantasy 7 have been been buzzing around the net.

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada explains how there has been a remake boom lately, "The price of games is high, and consumers tend to be wary of buying games they are unfamiliar with".

That's an interesting reason for the increase of remake talk, but SE fans hope they do...

We've almost all heard about Square-Enix, but not many people have heard of Level-5, the company that are currently in the process of developing White Knight Story/Chronicles.

The question that diggingtheweb.com have asked is... can Level-5 dethrone Square-Enix? In terms of number of games, that's an obvious no with only 150 employees as at last year, however if you go by quality of games... well it was Level 5 who previously developed Dragon Quest VIII and that in itself says something ab...

Remember Jo Garcia's response videos to the "Wii Fit Girl"? Well it looks like this game-crazy Playboy model does more than just snowboard and hula hoop - she's back and claims to be a Final Fantasy expert, as she logs each thing she does as she plays in her own gaming journal.

"The allure just isn't there anymore for the Final Fantasy titles and we have to ask why. Loyal fans try to create hype, but the games are just not combining new and old expectations. Maybe it's because every game, we have to warm up to new characters and worlds. Square sets itself up for hit and miss titles with no character regularity. The only motif running through the series I can identify is a blond guy and clueless protagonists. Most of the recent Final Fantasy games (dare I say Square ..."

Square Enix's new North America online merchandise store will be opening on August 20th, this Sunday.

For the opening new merchandise has been announced, including:

  • Final Fantasy XII character figurines: Vaan, Ashe, and Balthier.
  • Kingdom Hearts figurines.
  • Cloud and Sephiroth figurines recreating their epic battle in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

  • If you're a DS owner and a Final Fantasy fan, chances are you're highly anticipating this spin-off of the Final Fantasy series. The game was a success in Japan, although as some say, it was "dumbed down" for the Japanese gamers who mostly are not used to real-time strategy games.

For the English version, a few changes have been made and added. Read on for the hands-on impression of the English version.

    Known changes:

A list that features 10 of the best Final Fantasy games ever released. The list begins with Final Fantasy XI game which is the MMORPG. Also whoever is thinking that Final Fantasy VII is No.1 think again. VII-VIII-IX these three games fail to get the No.1 position, even though I was expecting one of them to be No.1. I'm also completely surprised with the position Final Fantasy XII made.

Square Haven talks with localization specialist Alexander O. Smith over his experience in translating Square Enix's games and helping them come to life in English. Smith's dialogues should be of interest to Square Enix fans, as he has had a hand in projects like Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy X, and the more recent Final Fantasy XII. The interview includes loads of juicy info about both working in the industry as a translator/localizer, and some of SE's games themselves.
