Dave Hoffman of Square Enix hints that the Project X (which is a codename) RPG that have been teasing for the last month may be developed by a western studio.

So, does anyone remember GRIN, the Swedish developers that closed down shop a while back? The developers of Bionic Commando, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, and Terminator: Salvation were purported to be working on an unannounced Final Fantasy title. Within the past several years, Square Enix has been on the ball with remakes of their classic Final Fantasy games. And rumors of a remake for the huge and popular Final Fantasy 7 have been been buzzing around the net.

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada explains how there has been a remake boom lately, "The price of games is high, and consumers tend to be wary of buying games they are unfamiliar with".

That's an interesting reason for the increase of remake talk, but SE fans hope they do...

Square Enix's new North America online merchandise store will be opening on August 20th, this Sunday.

For the opening new merchandise has been announced, including:

  • Final Fantasy XII character figurines: Vaan, Ashe, and Balthier.
  • Kingdom Hearts figurines.
  • Cloud and Sephiroth figurines recreating their epic battle in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

  • Square Haven talks with localization specialist Alexander O. Smith over his experience in translating Square Enix's games and helping them come to life in English. Smith's dialogues should be of interest to Square Enix fans, as he has had a hand in projects like Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy X, and the more recent Final Fantasy XII.
