A list of top ten best-selling Playstation Portable titles on the Playstation Network so far this year, according to the latest Playstation Pulse episode.
"The first time in gaming history where an island blows up, Contra gave the gamer the ending he wanted when playing this apparently unbeatable game (without the code of course). With seconds left, and the island about to detonate, you would see the protagonists fly off of the island in a little 8-bit helicopter just in time. The satisfaction that came over the gamer here was immense, considering how long and difficult the journey was. Seeing the island destroyed raised emotions of victory more..."
Square has developed a reputation over the years for dramatically changing how the battle mechanic works with each new iteration of the Final Fantasy series. The Kartel highlights how battling has evolved over the years, and pick out the ones that worked best.
I had the pleasure of recording a podcast with three Final Fantasy enthusiasts. I did not talk and they spoke on everything within the series. See the description. download through iTunes, though Zune, or download the mp3 directly
You would think Square Enix have a pretty good idea of how high the demand for a Final Fantasy VII remake is.
Apparently not.
A few days ago, on their official Twitter account, Square Enix asked for fans' opinions on a possible FFVII remake. The Twitter page was then flooded with so many positive answers, Square Enix had to ask people to stop posting comments because they were so overwhelmed by the response!
Every gamer has a classic library of nostalgic classics. When the time comes out to pop in the dusty cartridges however, a few titles almost all gamers can agree on. Take a look at the top ten games that you should take a second (or 100th) play through.
A sequel to Final Fantasy VII -- aka the game that just won't die -- is the premise of this video by fan/modeler "The T0ng." Looks great!
T0ng is also the fellow behind those Darth Vader / FF13 judge creations.
Sometimes dated graphics can make you feel different about a game than good graphics--in a good way! In this story, The Kartel takes a look at Final Fantasy VII remade in the style of 8-bit graphics.
"When Electronic Arts announced their plans to produce a video game based on the literary classic Dante's Inferno, gamers were outraged by more than just the title's uncanny resemblance to the God of War franchise. Question the literacy of those who indulge in our hobby all you want, but the generally negative reactions that greeted the interactive adaptation of Dante Alighieri's epic poem speak well for our kind's classical training. To the credit of these dissenters, Visceral Games really d..."
Looks aren't everything, and these games can prove it. In one of the most influential decades for gaming we've highlighted ten games from the 90s that have the ability to transcend the ravages of time. Did your favorite game make the list?
GameDaily gives its own take at which RPG style is superior in the categories of the classic RPG, the MMORPG, the tactical RPG, the action RPG, most emotionally engaging (contains FFVII and Mass Effect spoilers), and the overall winner.
Though you might not agree with everything stated, it is an interesting read on a topic that continues to spur the interest of RPG fans.
"Yoshinori Kitase also explains that such a problem relates to being unable to currently consider the continual requests for a Final Fantasy 7 remake.
He explains, “This issue is related to whether a Final Fantasy 7 remake will happen or not. It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time.”"
Game Podunk introduces a new editorial series, "What If," where Podunk editors formulate bizarre, far-fetched, and possibly believable outcomes to popular questions that gamers ponder when playing their games. For the first "What If" series, Podunk editors grab a rather unforgettable scene from the beloved game, Final Fantasy VII, in light of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIII.
So sit back and enjoy some of the strange answers to: "What If: Aerith Never Died by Sephiroth's Blade?"
"It’s a strange thought, isn’t it? How could a video game have anything to do with a fantasy (some would say sci-fi) drama like Lost?
Crazy or not, it seems that the hit show is unofficially (but almost spiritually) connected to Final Fantasy VII."
"One of the benefits of an FFVII remake would be the opportunity to refine (and when necessary, rewrite) the script. But that’s a process that would take extreme care. All of the cheesy elements – including every bad line of dialogue – must be removed. By that same token, if there are any cheesy moments added, the story will be ruined. When I say “cheesy,” I mean anything that you’d expect to find in turn-based RPGs not titled Final Fantasy, and anything that you might watch on Car..."
"The latest Playstation Store update came with a current list of the top downloads on the Playstation Store.
The first two spots are occupied by two of the most popular games on the original Playstation: Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VII. For Final Fantasy VIII, this is the first time the PSOne Classic has become the #1 download."
In an interview in the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura says that the Final Fantasy VII remake is currently not in development.
"When you’re only 10-years-old and playing Final Fantasy VII for the first time, there’s only so much you can take in. Even after subsequent playthroughs, it’s impossible to register all the game’s subtitles because the A.D.D-rattled brain of a child has barely developed beyond realizing that sticking metal objects in electric outlets usually yields a bad outcome.
Fast forward twelve years or so and you’re playing Final Fantasy VII again through the PlayStation Network. Except no..."
People find comfort in familiarity. Apparently this marketing ploy is working both ways, as the popularity of "de-makes" of classic titles is a hot seller. Similar to the popularity of 8-bit Left4Dead, check out these hilarious videos of pirated, 8-bit de-makes from China.
"Here’s the direct quote from the magazine:
“I can just say, that indeed, whereas I’m still working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Agito XIII and a little later on The 3rd Birthday (this year), we will announce other games this year and one which is terribly waited from everyone and often “REQUESTED” by fans and even by the press crew that I meet all over the world.”"
The year of 2009 saw the release of many high-profile PSOne Classics on the North American Playstation Store. So which of the classic titles were the best?
Akitoshi Kawazu, Square Enix developer, has said that he wants the Final Fantasy franchise to last forever.
In a recent interview, Kawazu was asked if gamers will ever see a final Final Fantasy. He said:
"Last month, in support of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers exclusively on Wii, Akitoshi Kawazu and Toshiyuki Rahans (producer and director of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers respectively) were interviewed at Square Enix in Paris by French Final Fantasy fansites. After some time discussing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers and earlier titles in the bloodline series, Kawazu and Rahans were questioned about th..."
"I thought I'd share another list: the top 5 tearjerker RPGs. Here they are according to Oricon:
1. Final Fantasy X
2. Dragon Quest V
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. CLANNAD
5. Mother 2 (EarthBound)"
"Below is a list of the top downloaded items from the PlayStation Store for the week ending October 22nd. This week Call of Duty: World at War and Fallout 3 both dominate the chart. The number one spot is occupied by the latest COD: WAW Map Pack for the second straight week. Fallout 3’s add on content has been very popular over the past few weeks. Check back each week for the lastest and most popular downloads from the PlayStation Store."
"8. Garland (FF9)
Garland is directly responsible for the events in the game. He was created by the Terrans and given the task to find a new planet for them to live on. When he couldn’t conquer Gaia, he created Kuja to be his Angel of Death, killing Gaians to make room for the Terrans’ souls."
"13. Eternal Sonata
Kicking off our list is Eternal Sonata, a game in which you assume the role of Frederic Chopin. As you might imagine, a game based on such a prolific pianist features a stunning soundtrack. The soundtrack even incorporates some of Chopin’s classic works, such as Polonaise, Op. 53, Étude Op. 10, No. 12, and Étude Op. 10, No. 3. The theme featured is the battle music, which clearly demonstrates the theme of the game."
It is very difficult to just pick 10 and everyone has their own tastes and may not agree with the list, but openly debate the top 10 console RPG's of all time! What games were missed?
"Cecil is the main character of Final Fantasy 4, originally released in the US as Final Fantasy 2 for the Super Nintendo. Cecil starts out the game as a bad ass dark knight, but has to undergo a transformation to a paladin to fight the true enemy. It’s too bad, really, because his first form is much cooler."
Three years ago, Square Enix showed off a tech demo of Final Fantasy 7 running on a PS3. The footage got a lot of people excited for a possible remake of the game. Recently, Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that, while they currently have no plans for a remake, news of a Final Fantasy VII remake would “perhaps” come soon.
"Here, we have a handful of straws. You’re welcome to grasp at some, should you feel the need.
Us at GamesCom: Will we ever see a remake of Final Fantasy VII?
FFXIII’s Yoshi Kitase and Motomu Toriyama, speaking through a translator: There’s no official project that’s up and running for a remake of Final Fantasy VII at this point. Both Toriyama-san and Kitase-san were involved in the development of the game, however, and it holds a special place in their hearts. They do talk about..."
Game Podunk continues the article series, 25 Things About Me, where video game character create their list of 25 things about themselves. Although much of the information included in these lists will come from facts about the character from their games, Game Podunk adds a hint of their own imagination to fill in the blanks.
Here's 25 Things about the famous Cloud Strife from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII by Square-Enix.
When asked which Final Fantasy game should be remade, most fans will say Final Fantasy VII. Psxextreme.com has held many polls on the topic and always end up with the same result. But with so many great games in the series, FFVII isn't the only one that deserves to be beautified for next-gen consoles.
So psxextreme.com asks the question: Besides FFVII, which FF game would you like to see remade?
"Since the company was founded in 1983, Squaresoft has had a reputation of making good-quality video games. Since its first title to hit the North American market (Rad Racer back in 1987 for the NES) and through today the ratio of high-quality to low-quality games has greatly skewed toward the former. The company is now known as Square-Enix thanks to a merger with animé, manga, and video game company Enix."
Parts I and II were released ages ago, so enjoy part III now that's finally arrived! But it's not the end of the road yet...

Edison Yan, artist of 5TH Cell's NeoGAF Post 217 thank-you, has jumped into the Scribblenaut character rendition ring popularized by the fellows at NeoGAF. His creations? The month of June saw many new PSOne Classic releases on the Playstation Store of the PSP and Playstation 3, from Final Fantasy VII to Resident Evil to Metal Gear Solid. So which new releases managed to make the top ten most downloaded list for the month of June?
"Remakes are cheap, easy, nostalgic and give younger gamers a chance to play a classic they missed due to being in the womb. After major gaming conglomerates (mostly Capcom) realized how much money they could make more and more have been popping up these days.
Within the next year gamers will see a good number of remakes; check out a handful that we can’t wait to get our grubby little paws on."
It didn’t take long for Final Fantasy VII to become the fastest selling PSOne Classic title on the Playstation Store of the PSP and Playstation 3. The classic RPG, first released on the original Playstation in 1997, has been downloaded more times than any other PSOne Classic so far.
"Rather than being seen as a classic and a bar raised in video game production, FFVII has been heralded as the pinnacle of the virtual digital experience. There are some of you thinking that I’m speaking in extreme hyperbole; you obviously don’t understand the extent of fanboy-dom that has been created through the use of a brooding main character, a huge sword, and summons. FFVII has become a form of denial in gamers across the world. Many of them remember it as the first/last great game o..."
"Originally released in 1997, Final Fantasy VII is widely regarded as one of the greatest Role-Playing Games (RPGs) ever made. Delivering an unprecedented scope and ground-breaking pacing throughout the storyline, Final Fantasy VII casts the player as the inimitable Cloud Strife, and hosts an assortment of other memorable characters."
"The original PS one® release has long been out-of-print and unavailable to a new generation of console owners and FINAL FANTASY fans. Now players will get another chance to own and experience the original adventure that brought us such memorable characters as Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, Aerith Gainsborough, Barret Wallace, Vincent Valentine and the fearsome Sephiroth.
John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments, “FINAL FANTASY VII is the most highl..."
We learned three days ago that throughout E3, the PlayStation Store would be constantly updated. Sony has fulfilled that promise, adding the Uncharted 2 E3 trailer, Final Fantasy VII for the PS1, and tons of other things.
It was made available on the JP Playstation Store back in April, and announced that it would be coming to the NA Playstation Store soon, and today it has been confirmed at the Sony Press Conference, that FFVII will be coming to the NA PS Store, and not any later than this week.
One of the best and most popular RPGs of all time is becoming a PSOne Classic in North America. Final Fantasy VII just got an ESRB rating for the PSP and Playstation 3. The game can already be downloaded from the Japanese Playstation Store since April 16, 2009.
"There are lots of excellent reasons to want to blow up an RPG town. If you’re a villain, for example, you might level a place because it’s friendly to some resistance movement, or it’s in your way, or the heroes are stopping in briefly on their way to kill you. If you’re a game designer, you might do it to raise the stakes, or to give players some emotional reason to want the villain dead. And if you’re a player, it’s probably because you’re sick of listening to a bunch of cooki..."
A "long suffering" woman wants to know why her boyfriend plays so many games, so ex-model and TV star Tyra Banks and co-host of X-Play Morgan Webb try to "decode" male gamers and attempt to help this woman's boyfriend with his gaming "problem". It's painful to watch.
I don't know about anyone else, but my suggestion would be to tell the girlfriend to *bleep* up and accept her boyfriend's harmless hobby. Relationships are a two-way street, after all.
Maybe she could even *gasp* p...
Japanese singer, model and TV personality Shoko Nakagawa's life is like some sort of bizarre game-related fairy tale. She recently bought an Xbox 360, then changed her mind and wanted to buy a PS3. She finally got her wish when hipster musician Meg Rock and transgender model Ayana Tsubaki bought her a "Cloud Black" PS3 bundle (which comes with FFVII: Advent Children Complete and the Final Fantasy XIII demo), because Shoko is such a huge fan of Final Fantasy VII. When asked who she wants to ma...
"Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase has admitted that the Japanese software giant may end up developing yet more additions to the Final Fantasy VII universe, despite the fact the release Advent Children Complete on Blu-ray was supposed to signal the end of any FFVII-related productions."
Binge Gamer writes: "Japan has all the luck. While PS3 owners in the States sit here with a bland selection of PSOne classics, the Japanese have just about every game under the sun."
Listing a handful of the better PSOne Classics available on the Japanese PSN, Binge Gamer's Perry Piekarski suggests that Sony does everything in its power to bring them to North American gamers.
"We’ve all had the same thought. With the enourmous library of PlayStation One titles at Sony’s disposal, why haven’t more PSOne Classics made their way to the PS Store?
Well soon enough, you won’t have to ask that question again, as the word is that Sony will be bringing a big chunk of PSN classics to the North American PS Store."
"Square Enix have revealed the first glimpse at the US box art for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete on BluRay, set to be released in the West in June, with a Japanese release just around the corner."
People have been asking for it for awhile now and Square Enix have answered. Let's just hope it eventually makes its way to the NA and PAL PlayStation Stores.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children's ending theme "Calling" mustn't have been very popular in the eyes of Western fans. It has been scrapped in the upcoming release of ACC: Complete. Instead the song "Safe and Sound", performed by Japanese rocker Kyosuke Himuro and My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, will play at the movie's end credits. Here is a preview of the song...
"If you saw last years line up of games, you would have noticed a LOT of sequels came out. Far Cry 2, Gears of War 2, GTA IV, Call of Duty 5, Fallout 3... the list seemed endless! Some were good, some only average. Some may have tarnished the reputation of their series beyond repair. It's just the risk developers take when they choose to continue a tried-but-true game type.
That said, theres no denying that everyone loves sequels. Even if its just for an extension of the storyline and n..."
Chris Plante delivers this feature that lists game titles with mini or meta games contained within that are strong enough to stand on their own. There are some omissions (e.g. only one of the Final Fantasy games listed - and *gasp* it isn't chocobo racing), so be sure to let him know what should have been included at content@ugo.com
"Every so often, a game comes around that takes advantage of a unique concept, defines a genre, and pushes the medium of video games forward. Unfortunately, those kinds of games are almost always disregarded by gamers in favor of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Crisis 4-B and Metal Gear Solid: Snake is really old.
Those games aren't always bad in themselves; the problem is in the gamers that flock to such games. Likewise, the games on this list are not bad games; their existence merely ushere..."

By now I'm sure we're all aware of Resident Evil 5's racism issue, but racial stereotyping is an issue that seems to go beyond beyond just one game.
Darion White, from Edge Online, takes a look at the way black characters are portrayed in video games, both the positive portrayals and the negative ones.

"Video game characters, though they might swear and be the master of unlocking locks, are usually not badass, mainly because theyre so stiff and run-of-the-mill. But then, there are exceptions, such as this list below, which is a compilation of characters so badass that they can even make YOU feel badass while playing as them, thats how cool they are. Sadly, though, Im pretty sure none of them have wallets that say bad mother*bleep*er on them. Oh, well, I never said that they were Sa..."
"As those experienced in the realm of nerdery, we gamers know what it is like to be social outcasts more often than not. We understand that there are certain codes, unwritten rules to being a part of circles, and what must be done to infiltrate them.
The same is true of the gaming community, perhaps more so than other clubs. To keep our hardcore gaming membership card secure in our wallets, there are certain appearances we must uphold in order to earn the respect of the gaming community at ..."
"As we all know, the one thing that sets videogames apart from other forms of media is interactivity. Being the catalyst for your own adventure is something that makes gaming more interesting to me than any movie or book. With videogames, one can stop being a mere passive observer and actually be a part of the action.
That said, if there's one thing I may have done more than playing videogames, it's watching videogames. Whether patiently waiting for my turn or being astounded by the skills..."
"For a long time, the games industry debated the question of whether a videogame could make you cry. But as I hope to demonstrate, this question is either irrelevant, or a game never has nor never could make you cry.
Games (under the systems view) cannot make you cry. Videogame titles can include narrative material that makes you cry, but no-one can claim to be surprised that a story can make you cry. Barring some serious change in what constitutes a videogame, the only way they are ever go..."
OMG RPG of gamepro.com has compiled a list of the top ten swords from video games!

Jason Michaels of collegehumor.com has made quite the comical article indeed. Editing the cover art for certain games, he chose ten games to murder with puns.
Some of them are pointing out rather funny truths, others are just plain rude!
Within the past several years, Square Enix has been on the ball with remakes of their classic Final Fantasy games. And rumors of a remake for the huge and popular Final Fantasy 7 have been been buzzing around the net.
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada explains how there has been a remake boom lately, "The price of games is high, and consumers tend to be wary of buying games they are unfamiliar with".
That's an interesting reason for the increase of remake talk, but SE fans hope they do...

Our friends over at 1up take a comical look at how 5 prominent religions are offended by video games. With the recent LittleBigPlanet Scandal - this is becoming a growing issue.
Note - I do not intend to offend anyone by posting this, it is for satirical and comical purposes only. Any sort of flaming and bickering within the comments will not be tolerated and dealt with accordingly.

Racketboy has browsed through the plethora of games in the Playstation library and weighed out the defining elements - things that molded the system, and console gaming for years to come.

Have you ever wondered what the Final Fantasy VII characters might sound like if they could sing? No? Well luckily, almost any Japanese person who is remotely famous will have sung a song sometime during their life. So, here are a few songs sung by the Japanese voice-actors of the FFVII Compilation ...

So we know that Lionhead Studios' Peter Molyneux doesn't think the PS3 will hit the big time until it has a game to back it up, but this new statement from Molyneux is bound to divide gamers.
Is Final Fantasy VII the game that defined the RPG genre, or isn't it ?
Discuss in the Final Fantasy VII forum
Everyone (Sony fans, and Final Fantasy fans) seem to be clamoring about FFXIII not being PS3 exclusive. This isn't the first time this has happened ladies and gentlemen. Lest you forget that VII (arguably one of the best in the series) was originally intended for the N64?
GamesRadar goes through a list of 10 more titles that brought out a similar reaction with fans.
Brought to you by Square Enix Music comes a brand new soundtrack directed and composed by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu and remixed and produced by Ante / Ian Hartley & mattb: FINAL FANTASY REMIX, featuring 12 classic Final Fantasy tunes remixed.

"We've seen this sign popping up over the weekend on the internets, and now reader and Best Buy employee Boomy (possibly a pseudonym) sends this snap from his iPhone of a coming soon sign misprint that is set to disappoint a lot of people come August 16th. At least we assume that this is a misprint. Either that, or Square Enix has developed Apple-levels of secrecy over the past few years...somehow I doubt it.
It's just odd that such a screw-up would occur with nothing even vaguely FF-relate..."
"Plenty of people use non-expensive laptops and desktop pcs for simple school projects, music management, and web browsing. A lot of these people are also gamers, but don't buy games for their PCs because they think that their setup can't handle anything beyond Bejewled. Well they're wrong. I happen to be one of those gamers. I got my laptop last Christmas and ignorantly popped in the Orange Box and after the lengthy install, dove into Half-Life 2. It wasn't pretty. I thought my computer was g..."
Square Enix plans to reveal exceptionally big news on August 2nd in terms of the game's future on if there will be a spin off or a remake of the game. It's also been rumored that the original FF7 will be available for purchase off Playstation Network or even XBox Live Arcade, so fans of the series also have that to look forward to.

Folks over at Gamernode have the wonderful idea of allowing readers to sum up their opinion on popular games with a single world. This week they've picked Final Fantasy VII, and below you can see what some readers decided on for their succinct reviews.
Me, I'd choose "pioneering", or maybe "significant." Sure, it hasn't aged as well as some others in the series, but it surely helped set the groundwork for a zillion other games since.

We're all familiar with the Final Fantasy VII Compilation and many fans would agree that the compilation as a whole has been mediocre or disappointing.
Sirlarr from GamesAreFun would certainly agree. He's tired of the "j-pop ultra-fashion Nomura bullcrap" that Square Enix have added to the FFVII plot. He doesn't even recognise the game or it's characters anymore.
But then he brings up an interesting point... What if FFVII was always like that and we just couldn't tell due to graphical ...
"The allure just isn't there anymore for the Final Fantasy titles and we have to ask why. Loyal fans try to create hype, but the games are just not combining new and old expectations. Maybe it's because every game, we have to warm up to new characters and worlds. Square sets itself up for hit and miss titles with no character regularity. The only motif running through the series I can identify is a blond guy and clueless protagonists. Most of the recent Final Fantasy games (dare I say Square ..."
It seems so long ago when Final Fantasy VII was first announced. Gaming magazines went crazy when it was revealed the game would be coming to America. Finally, gamers could get a taste of this "Final Fantasy" series that Japan was raving about.
Who knew the game would still be so popular ten years after it's release?
To commemorate one of the most popular games of all time, IGN has put together a history of Final Fantasy VII.

Japan's Dengeki Online recently polled it's readers about the games they want remade the most.
Nobody will be surprised with the game that appears at the top of the list.
What is the main reason Japanese gamers want these games remade? Better graphics, of course.
And what is Japanese gamer's main worry for their favorite games getting remade? A changed/different storyline.
Crisis Core could have been a a next-gen game, but the PS3 wasn't avaliable at the time. Yoshinori Kitase and Producer Hideki Imaizumi could have made the switch to the PS2, but they wanted a new platform so they decided to do a PSP version of it. Kistase said they would need the core members from the original team but they are all busy with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII so there might not be a remake any time soon.
PocketGamer (www.pocketgamer.co.uk) has done an interview with Square Enix's producer Hideki Imaizumi and executive producer Yoshinori Kitase on the ongoing preparations for the game that will be coming out in UK.
In this interview, they are given the question "If you'd known the DS was going to be as popular as it is, would you have chosen to make Crisis Core for it instead?" and give the answer "It really wasn't an option to begin with and it wasn't something we regretted later because w...
"Role-playing games are most closely related to books in the video game world. As a result, graphics are of little consequence in the genre. Go back and play FFVII and tell me it’s not a compelling game. Do the graphics look dated? Of course they do. But does it matter in the least? No way. A good story could be paired with graphics from 1987 and the game would still shine.
Without a story, the RPG means nothing. As a RPG players, we understand there will be a good amount of reading/control..."
After years of off and on rumor and speculation that Square might remake their beloved cash cow Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 3 with with the company only regarding it as a possibility, they've finally snapped and decided to give in to the overwhelming demand. "According to a reliable source at SCEJ, Square-Enix has something big planned for The Last Remnant's release. Or rather, they have two "something bigs" planned. First up: they will be including a 22-minute playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII with the PS3 version of The Last Remnant. This demo lets us play through a section of FFXIII that doesn't occur until a good 20 hours into the game, which leads us to believe the developers are progressing nicely. Heck, they might even be ahead of schedul..."

Man, this rumor certainly is resilient. No matter how many times it was denied or dismissed, it just keeps coming back. Well this time 1UP is the one starting up the rumor again based on a recent interview with Square Enix's Hajime Tabata. In the interview, Tabata says that Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (PSP) will not be the final game of the FFVII series. That means there will be another game coming from SE set in the FFVII world. Could it be the remake of the original FFVII?
A recent interview with Crisis Core's game director Hajime Tabata gives us some very interesting information about the game and it's development. But one question in particular caught my attention. When asked whether Crisis Core would be the finale to the Final Fantasy VII compilation Hajime answered "No, it does not. The Compilation's finale will take some other form."
"The Japanese role-playing game is a surprisingly important genre for developers to study - both in terms of gameplay and storytelling, and Gamasutra presents an 'Essential 20' explaining and chronicling the top JRPGs of all-time.
Valkyrie Profile: In most RPGs, it's your job to stop the end of the world. In Valkyrie Profile, it's your job to start it.
The battle system is a strange beast, with actions for each of the four party members assigned to a face button. Each character has a numbe..."

You've seen the NES Final Fantasy VII screens, now watch the clip. The game has the storyline for the multi-disc PlayStation epic crammed onto a NES cartridge. Unofficial, yes, but officially awesome."
Yes, that's right. The Shenzhen Nanjing Technology Company have released a remake of Final Fantasy VII ... On the NES!
Of course, it's completely unofficial. But what makes this fanmade game so amazing is that most of the FFVII game is exactly identical to the original. The storyline, the Materia System, the Gameplay ... It's all there! The only major thing that is missing is Yuffie and Vincent, but I guess they had to make sacrifices.
Look at some of the screenshots, and see if you can...
Are you having trouble keeping up with the presidential elections? Well gamewithabrain.com has just made it simpler for us gamers to understand, having compiled a list of each presidential candidate and the games they are most similar to.
Barack Obama's game alter-ego is apparently Final Fantasy VII, while Hillary Clinton seems to bear similarities to Donkey Kong Country 3. Read the article to find out why.

Remember the good ol' days of the original PSone? Remember when the PSone's choppy graphics wow-ed us all? Some great series started way back when this console was only beginning, and many of those "series starters" are still considered to be better than the games that succeeded them. It's hard to believe that over a decade has passed since the PSone was first released.
Many new gamers wouldn't understand why Ridge Racer was fun with only one track, or why the original Resident Evil terri...
The rumor of a remake of Final Fantasy 7 has been running wild ever since the release of Square Enix's tech-demo a few years ago and this rumor has been put down and recovered numerous times over the past years.
This time however, we get probably the most definitive answer yet, until the game is either officially announced or officially canned.
This makes the most sense, the possibility of a FF7 remake is completely dependent on Square-Enix's schedule. Mostly the completion of FF13 and...
The US PSM magazine has recently given a rundown of the English version of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (soon to be released in March) and they are happy with what they have played so far.
According to the magazine Crisis Core brings back alot of cherished memories from the original FFVII. They were thrilled to learn that simple things such as the Chocobo Farm, Summons, or Aerith's Church were left completely intact, thus giving old FFVII gamers a burst of nostalgia with every new scene...
To mark the release of the Cloud Art-book in Japan, Dengeki Online have released a new website, which contains not just some extracts of the magazine itself, but also confirms the existence of the long awaited trailers from TGS that have been shown behind closed doors (note that none of the trailers show any of the new characters, they are simply the uncut version of previous trailers).
In the world of cosplaying and conventions, there are a few cosplayers who stand out from the crowd, and have become online celebrities due to their accurate depictions of video-game characters and their costumes. But is it really all just fun and games? For these "online celebrities" it can sometimes be a dangerous thing. Crazed fans often abuse, degrade and insult them simply because they are dressed as a character that they don't like.

"Square's big budget fan service film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, is heading to Blu-ray and it's going to provide much more than an HD transfer. A new trailer showcased at TGS shows a few new scenes that expand upon the film's storyline. One scene took place in the alleys of Midgar as children afflicted with Geostigma appear to be melting goo. Another sequence shows Sephiroth stabbing Cloud through the chest, skewering him and swinging him like a piece of dead meat. Not only will the ..."
The highly respected gaming magazine 'Famitsu' seems to be getting into the spotlight alot lately, especially with their recent quote saying "A third party game that will save the PlayStation 3 in Japan is to be announced tomorrow". Could this possibly be the release of the much clamoured-for Final Fantasy VII Remake? Or possibly the rumored FFVII: Endless Crisis? Only time will tell, but if Famitsu themselves say it's going to save the PS3, then it's got to be big!
As many Final Fantasy fans would know, the rumours surrounding the possible Final Fantasy VII remake have almost gotten to the point of being ridiculous. PS3 Tech Demos, new FFVII character models, confusing Square Enix interviews, and now a mysterious TGS poster sporting the words "We hope to meet FFVII again" ...
Will Square Enix ever put the fans out of their misery?
In an online petition to Square Enix to remake the ever so popular Final Fantasy VII, over 20,000 signatures (23,943 as of this post to be exact) have been signed.
The petition was sent in to Square Enix and their response from them however is not the best thing for a fan to hear.
You must be thinking... "What does the title mean". Well that's pretty simple, what I mean to say is, will Final Fantasy XIII be the game that rejuvinates the RPG genre and hits it big for the PS3 platform? Final Fantasy VII was the first game on the original Playstation platform, and it (very quickly) became one of the fastest (and most) selling titles on the Playstation's.
Can Square-Enix recreate that with Final Fantasy XIII? With such improved visuals, more disc space for the SE to use...

It's not everyday that Square-Enix releases special Final Fantasy products, and whilst potions have been released in the past, this time square are releasing an even more special Potion packet for Final Fantasy fans everywhere. A list that features 10 of the best Final Fantasy games ever released. The list begins with Final Fantasy XI game which is the MMORPG. Also whoever is thinking that Final Fantasy VII is No.1 think again. VII-VIII-IX these three games fail to get the No.1 position, even though I was expecting one of them to be No.1. I'm also completely surprised with the position Final Fantasy XII made.
"In October, Square-Enix is planning to release a series of Final Fantasy miniature trading figures. The first volume of the 60mm tall, pocket-sized characters will presumably form part of a growing collection of releases in the future. The pieces are limited in availability, so GamerSquad would advise acting with haste come October if you fancy grabbing them and a factory sealed container to hold them in."

Some of the screenshots have been translated into English."
"In EDGE's Final Fantasy special this month, they have interviewed Tetsuya Nomura. It looks alot like the interview with him that we posted earlier, but at least this time we can understand it! He pretty much covers the same points, and pretty much secures the much discussed Playstation 3 exclusivity of Final Fantasy XIII, or thats how I read it anyway. He speaks a lot about how they're doing so many things they haven't be able to do before thanks to the Playstation 3, and the fact that it was..."

Yet more information about the Final Fantasy VII Anniversary is surfacing from this month's issue of Gemaga magazine. This time it's an interview with Yoshinori Kitase (the FFVII director and scenario writer), Yusuke Naora (the FFVII art director), and Tetsuya Nomura (the FFVII character desinger).
The three men discussed the original development ideas for Final Fantasy VII. Interestingly enough, the original FFVII story was going to be a "detective story, with characters such as: a detecti...
"Early images from next week's issue of the Japanese magazine Shonen Jump have turned up, showing some new screenshots from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Among the images are shots of Shisune (the "Shuriken" Turk from FFVII: Before Crisis), the CG image of Zack used on the title screen of the Square Enix Party demo, and a screenshot of a side mission featuring Yuffie in her Before Crisis outfit."
The official "Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core" website has been updated with character profiles for Sephiroth, Genesis and Lazard.
Popular Japanese singer Gackt will be returning as the Japanese voice-actor for Genesis.
In-game screenshots are also part of the update for the profies.
There are also four currently unannounced characters.
Crisis-Core.net has kindly translated the new website pages.
"Tabata: Up until now it wasn't possible to really depict Sephiroth as a more human character. In order to help Angeal he will have to take actions to deceive Shinra to ensure that Shinra commands fall through, and this leads into an unintentional give and take with Zack. Thus Sephiroth's true self will be a big highlight.
The voice acting has been improved again. While the seiyuu have been bringing Aerith, Zack, and Sephiroth to life from the outset, they've had to spend time under a lot ..."
More rumours are now swirling around about Final Fantasy VII is being made for the PS3 only. As the rumours increase my hope increases also. Plus this time it's come from a reliable source. So we can only hope for the best.

Either the staff at one of the world's biggest gaming websites has gone mad, or they know something we only dream of. For some reason, Final Fantasy VII's page at 1UP.com has a release date inside: January 1, 2008. I highly doubt the release date is real, but are 1UP.com hinting that we should expect a remake announcement soon?
