Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

"As a fan of post-apocalyptic themes, I am of course drawn to games take place after catastrophic events. Though this list is not exhaustive, it’s revealing that much of is so top-heavy. With the theme becoming increasingly popular, I don’t seem to be alone in my enjoyment of post-apocalyptic games. Here’s hoping for more to come."

"Frankly, 2010 was a pretty big year for gaming. Kinect and the Move opened the door to motion sensitive gaming for Microsoft and Sony respectively (though neither of which are on the list), and we experienced some amazing sequels as well as some brand new titles. We wanted to share what we think you should dash down to your store for if you find it's missing from your collection."

"Ever since Bandai Namco first revealed Fragile Dreams way back in early 2007, there has been constant attention placed upon it. There are numerous reasons for this, one of which being the fact that, at the time, Nintendo's Wii console was not receiving any large-scale RPG content from developers such as Square Enix, Konami and Capcom, despite having a much larger user-base than the PS3 and Xbox 360 combined in Japan. Following moderate success with the card-fighting Baten Kaitos RPG series on..."

"Like a lot of gamers I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Fragile Dreams since the game’s initial reveal back in 2008. Hiroya Hatsushiba and tri-Crescendo’s latest title has a natural appeal thanks to imaginative environments and original ideas that, let’s be honest, aren’t too common on the Wii. Thankfully it’s finally here and we can take on the role of fifteen year-old protagonist Seto as we set out to see if we are the last person alive and find out what happened to create this d..."

A celebration of video games, giveaways, Billy Mitchell's hot sauce, and 100 episodes of Distributed Failure. The podcast has been going strong for over 2 years and this is the epic 100th episode with plenty of special guests and awesome prizes!

"In Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon gamers take on the role of an abandoned young boy named Seto, the sole survivor in a world filled with ruined buildings and deserted train stations that's plagued by monsters and disembodied ghosts. His quest is to find survivors from the seemingly unknown event that has devastated the world he lives in."

"In an unprecedented move, leading video games publisher Rising Star Games has today announced it has teamed up with Spanish fans of Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon to translate the game's script, so they can enjoy it in its entirety. Spanish website DSWii.es (part of Blogocio.net) approached Rising Star with the unique idea and, following an announcement calling for volunteers to participate in the translation, recruited a group of fifty dedicated gamers from their loyal community ..."

The spring lineup for the Nintendo Wii is looking extremely promising with big-named games as well as lesser known but still great titles slated from March through May.

"Fragile Dreams has almost escaped the cold, unfeeling tentacles of Japan where it has been held captive for so long. Many people are looking to this title to bring something really different to Nintendo's platform and, I'm here to tell you, it will. I haven't played anything like it on the Wii.

XSEED sent us a preview of the much-anticipated Action-RPG and its dark and beautiful world is haunting my memory."

"While the story is intriguing, what really brings this game home are the beautiful graphics and amazing audio. Fragile Dreams is an experience that is not only enjoyable visually, but it is a treat for the ears. The emotional elements – like a haunting loneliness that pervades the world, the despair resonating in the voices of the characters – are clearly in place and Fragile Dreams’ development team, tri-Crescendo, has found the right mix for a game that is truly a wonderful experience."

"An engaging and unique game, as the story unfolds the gamer gradually begins to make sense of the desolate world while fending off ghosts and other hostile creatures, using the Wii Remote as both weapon and torch. Visually stunning, audio is also crucial in Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon - along with an emotional soundtrack, ghostly sounds emanate from the Wii Remote's speaker, adding to the eerie environment. It can also be pointed at the source of a sound and used as an aid to d..."

New features previously not in the Japanese version will be included in the NA region version. This upcoming release will include an english and japanese voice track and unlockable extras such as the ability to re-watch cutscenes, flip through at concept art, and play the original Japanese trailers. Also, GameStop pre-orders will receive a 12-song Fragile Dreams soundtrack.

"The Nintendo Wii is currently the top console on the market this generation, and Nintendo and its third-party publishers are going to make sure that it stays on top of the game. There will be plenty of new titles to play this year -- sequels to popular franchises as well as new IPs, both on retail disk as well as digital download -- so don't think for a second that it'll be a "sparse" and "light" 2010 when it comes to Wii gaming.

Here's a quick look at the games we're most looking forward ..."

"Rising Star Games has announced the appointment of a new columnist at their Hoshi Club – the online destination for videogame fans to find out the latest details on Rising Star Games’ videogame releases and insight into Japanese culture. Following the signing of ex-Edge deputy editor, David McCarthy, Alex Sim-Wise shall have her own personal space to write about videogames, Japanese culture and pretty much anything she wishes."

"Rising Star Games have become synonymous with those quintessentially Japanese videogame treats that otherwise may have never made their way to European shores. The sweet, inviting world of the classic Harvest Moon series and pleasing guilt involved in commanding your loyal (or perhaps, not so loyal) followers in Little King’s Story is regularly contrasted with the dark, grimy labyrinths of JU-ON: The Grudge or the under-appreciated Nintendo DS First-Person Shooter, Moon."

"Highlights from February include the mind-meltingly mental Half-Minute Hero on PlayStation Portable (PSP). This brilliantly original title fuses classic gaming mechanics with bite-sized thirty-second gaming to create one of the format’s most audacious twists on the Role-Playing Game (RPG) genre. Animal Kororo, a ludicrously cute Puzzle game will also be published on Nintendo DS this month."

""In the game you control a boy with a flashlight who wanders the world, searching for survivors -- like the mysterious girl in the picture -- and the answers behind the disappearance of everyone else in the world.""

Let's face it. Without the XSEEDs, Atluses, and Working Designs of the world, playing these odd games from Japan in English with no real Western backing would be a wet dream. We would at the mercy of the giant publishers and their wholly-established brand names, and at the general blandness of video games today. The mainstream US publishers have stopped to consider what Japan has to offer, and even the big publishers from Japan only localize their bigger games.

But these are the compani...

"Rising Star Games has today confirmed they have secured the publishing rights for the much anticipated fantasy adventure title, Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, as previously revealed by Electronic Theatre. Developed by Tri Crescendo, the team responsible for Baten Kaitos and, more recently, Eternal Sonata exclusively for Wii, Fragile is scheduled for a Q1 2010 release in the PAL territories."

"Seto may be the last human alive. He buried his grandfather at the end of the summer. Desperately lonely, he decides to search for other survivors on this ruined and dying planet. But he will have to fight off the demons and ghosts that haunt this forsaken and crumbling world, while piecing together the mystery of mankind's disappearance."

Rising Star Games, XSEED Games' counterpart in the PAL regions and Marvelous subsidiary, has confirmed today that they will be bringing the tri-Crescendo adventure RPG Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon for the Wii in early 2010.

Fragile released back in Japan in January, and will see a US release by XSEED Games this winter in North America.

XSEED Games is usually good with their customer relations; you can send them questions and for the most part they'll be happy to answer. NeoGAF user Hero of Legend sent a bunch of questions XSEED's way recently, and received a response, gaining the following information:

  • XSEED still has two titles they haven't announced yet: one for Wii, one for DS
    • That Wii Game isn't Ougon no Kizuna.
  • Little King's Story will keep its July 21st date, and will have an all new Tyrant difficulty

""As a Wii owner, I often feel like that lonely kid on the playground at recess, desperately waiting my turn to be picked for dodge ball, only to be passed over again, and again, leaving me disappointed and neglected on the bench. Any remotely “serious” gamer who owns a Wii console has likely felt this way at least once: a new game is announced, but Wii is sadly left by the wayside. Or, worse, a title is released in Japan, but never for the North American market. Instead, we are left with a..."

Get ready for a world of adventure on the Wii!

Earlier today, Namco Bandai announced that they are developing a Wii-exclusive RPG currently named Fragile. Although all we have right now is a bit of artwork and a teaser site, but the game itself will be shown this coming Thursday and an event will be held the Saturday after that. Two days later, on Monday, November 26th, the official site will open.

Certainly good news for the rather RPG-starved Wii.
