GameCube Hardware

"Looking back at days of old it's interesting to see where we started and how the evolution of consoles has changed from being dedicated videogame machines to the multimedia platforms we have today. Remember your first console or home computer, whether it was the Atari 2600 or the later generation Playstation, we all have a history of playing video games. Mine was the Commodore 64 a computer that would load games from audio cassette or floppy disks. In 1988 I would own my first cartridge based..."

"Today's sleek, powerful games consoles are a far cry from the clunky boxes of yesteryear, with their basic graphics, cartridges and cassette tapes. The launch of the Game Boy Colour transformed the image of the games consoles, turning it in to a device you'd be proud to whip out of your pocket on the train journey home."

"When people reminisce about the GameCube they typically remember it as the ‘kiddie’ console of the last generation, the underachiever compared to the runaway success of the PS2 and the impressive debut of the Xbox. In terms of sales, the GameCube was the blip on Nintendo’s otherwise impressive record."

"The most recent statistics show the continued dominance of the current generation of consoles by the Xbox 360 (with a 21.1% usage minutes). The Wii and Playstation 3 come in third and fourth places with 17.6% and 10.5% respectively.

The statistics for the previous generation of consoles is not as kind to both Microsoft's Xbox consoles. Being used much less than the Playstation 2, which has a 21.6% showing, ranking the system the most played console for the month of April."

Earlier this week, Nielsen Media Research had released console hardware usage statistics for 2008. Today, they have released a revised graph, showing the percentage of minutes each console commands through the calendar year. Most, if not all of the adjustments, came in the January 2009 area.

The revised statistics show that throughout most of 2009, the PS2 enjoyed a large lead in usage percentage, before losing most of it in January 2009. The Xbox 360 and whatever is in the 'Other' cate...

In an amusing and not well thought out move by the European Parliament, they desire a "red button" on consoles for parents to be able to push when they see something "morally objectionable" in front of their kid's eyes. James Walker believes this already existed with the reset button. I would take it a step further and go ahead and say that button is called the "Power Button"

"Nintendo has already released two games from its 'New Play Control!' range in Japan, with both GameCube versions of Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin not only being re-released on Wii, but coming complete with various changes to make them more appealing for the new wider audience that Nintendo has so far attracted. Other games due to launch under this revamped range in the coming months are Pikmin 2, Chibi-robo! and the two Metroid Prime games from Retro Studios. But wha..."

"5. The Loss of Final Fantasy

The NES and SNES were the only consoles for the first 6 Final Fantasy games. They sold brilliantly and developed a massive fanbase, however this all changed in the 5th generation. Square were unhappy with Nintendo's decision to use cartridges in their next console, they flat-out told Nintendo that if they went ahead with it then Final Fantasy would move to the newer and more favorable PlayStation. Nintendo failed to heed these warnings and missed out on Final F..."

"We like to hear people scream at us. Unfortunately, it has been a long while since anyone's actually done it. To compensate, the editors of all three IGN Editorial offices (US, UK, and Australia) got together and decided that it was time to revisit one of the most controversial topics in our business...

Our criteria for creating this list of our picks for the Top 100 Games of All Time are as follows:

Pirates, arent just selling GameCube games, they are re-releasing the games as Wii titles, and this includes a Wii-look-a-like covers for the box scans, however the controlls for the games work in very much the same way as the GameCube counterparts.

Included in the list of pirated games are: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Tony Hawk Underground 2, Resident Evil 0 & The Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition. However that's not all. Who says that Metroid 3 hasn't been released yet? Definitely...

Wow. These consoles are smoking hot! We all know that there have been some ugly looking consoles made but most of the time these consoles get remade eventually. This list goes over the top ten best looking consoles. Definitely worth checking out. I just love the Panasonic Q GameCube.

The folks from screw attack drop their top ten, which includes classics such as Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Resident Evil 4, Eternal Darkness and Twilight Princess.
