"There’s something about certain games that naturally draw me in. This is considerably easier with any sort of RPG that involves decisions and progression that allow you to influence not only your character, but the actual game itself. I’ve spent so much time with these games because I’m able to make the character my own, affect the environment, and play the game almost exactly how I want to play it."
"Gears of War 3 launched last Tuesday and has quickly become a best seller and a favorite among Xbox 360 owners. The conclusion to the trilogy of Gears games took a slight step back from the “campiness” of its predecessors and series creator Cliff Bleszinski is hoping to be able to continue that trend moving forward. These characters are vital to the survival of numerous people and they are the best at what they do. I’ve only included characters from games that I have personally played. Xbox 360 has done a really great job with cooperative game plays in many of the most popular games like Halo, Left 4 Dead, Gears of war and many others. Microsoft xbox 360 has worked hard to bring more and more co-op games to the xbox 360. Here is a brake down of the top 10 co op games.
"A movie based on the extremely popular Xbox 360 series, Gears of War, has been rumoured since the original game hit shelves all those years ago. Movie-based games are always a worry for fans of the game and fans of films alike. Hear what Cliff Bleszinski had to say about the topic at this year's E3."
"In case you haven't heard there was an article posted on VentureBeat about how the upcoming game Space Marine rips off the Gears of War series (Here is the article in question). So instead of just going through and ripping apart the article in a fit of rage (like the fan boy in me wants to) I have decided I would talk about how Space Marine and Gears of War are both similar and different and who is ripping off whom."
Microsoft today revealed that seven new games will be joining the Platinum Collection lineup, the equivalent to Platinum Hits from North America, in Japan.

Specifically, the launch of the Gears of War 3 beta for those of you who pre-ordered it from GameStop. Those who bought Epic Games’ smash hit Bulletstorm, had access to the beta on week 1.
"I had the pleasure to meet the man who voices not only Dom from the Gears of War series, but also from the Assassin’s Creed’s Leonardo Da Vinci, Carlos Ferro. A voice actor, DJ, performer, and all around great guy, Ferro was the guest of honor at the Gamers Gone Wild Party hosted by the awesome gaming communities 2 Old 2 Play and SFX-360."
"George Lucus struck gold when he cast Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy but today Mark Hamill could be known best as the brilliant Emmy Award winning voice behind The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: The animated series. Mark Hamill has an amazing career as a voice actor and has contributed to numerous animated TV shows such as Batman, The Hulk, Fantastic 4 just to name a few. Marks voice is well known for multiple video game characters none more so tha..."

"You won't find Link's Master Sword or Mario's fireballs here, folks. Instead, we've chosen to focus on those weapons that make players most eager to pull the trigger again and again."
The Gears of War franchise has been exclusive on the Xbox 360 since the first game launched in 2006, though Epic President Mike Capps said he would like it if the franchise also came out to the Playstation 3.
Love him or hate him, Cliff Bleszinski has become a huge influence to the gaming landscape the past few years. "So it has been a few months since the first few comparisons that we did in Part 1, so it is once again time to compare a few sequels and their respective predecessors – some new and some not so new.
As previously discussed, games do have it a little easier than films in that they can rely on game play to make a game better, not simply the characters and plot line.
If a games plot and characters are weak, it is still possible for it to be a successful and even good game – if the plot an..."
"This letter comes straight from the programme Lorraine Kelly Live in England which airs practically every weekday on ITV, a channel that is freely available to everyone who has a television set without subscription. Personally I find this absolutely disgraceful - it seems that the stigma against gamers and deeming us all violent psychopaths is determined to continue until gaming has been drummed squarely into the ground forever and ever. Give me a break. In fact give me the biggest break poss..."

"Now, we've included model shots in with the great cosplayers, to make sure the pictures you see are the best of the best. Here's the top ten best costumes of all time. Please enjoy!"
"Gears of War 3 is still a year away. I’m expecting great things, but you know my thoughts on the relationship between skepticism and faith. So, I’ll still have to see it to believe it when it comes to this game. But knowing that Epic has been listening to us all along gives me this sense that, when it comes to GoW3, we’re all in this together. And there’s something comforting in that."
"Dear readers, it has come to my attention that I need to get something off my chest, something which will make me seem like less of a man. You see I have a secret. I am a coward, a wuss, why? Because I play games on Easy.
Throughout my gaming life I’ve always wanted to keep pace with my friends, those with somewhat superhuman abilities for completing games on Normal or Hard – or so they say. I didn’t want to miss out on discussions at school regarding a certain narrative point in Final Fan..."
"It’s been a staple feature of a huge number of games over the past couple of decades regardless of the genre: Boss battles. Whether it be from First Person Shooters to RPG’s, Action Adventure or through to Third Person Shooters and more, boss battles have been there since day 1.
Whether it’s the frustration of reaching the boss back in the arcade days of Street Fighter with only one life left, or reaching the boss with you on minimal health, they have etched themselves in the memories of t..."
You know who enjoys playing Gears of War? The Old Spice Guy. And he does it with his shirt off because that's what real men do while smelling like Old Spice.
"In today's shooter-filled market, we spend a lot of time spraying bullets and looking down scopes. But every modern shooter gives us some kind of blunt weapon or knife for up-close encounters. In real life, if a badguy charged at you with a knife, you'd probably still shoot him. But video games make the melee button so satisfying, as you watch an opponent crumple to the ground, stumble backwards, or see the "Beat-Down" medal flash on screen. Melee weapons add a visceral side to our shooters a..."
"In the world of games the male lead has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Among the things a hero has to accomplish is being a tough guy or a bad-ass in this case. While plenty have accomplished this throughout the history of gaming, few have made major impacts in gaming in the last ten years. What does it take to be a bad-ass you ask? Well first of all you have to be able to hold your own in a fight despite all the odds being stacked against you. There's no denying that the guys on o..."
"1. My prison number was 098356-GX. But, you can call me Marcus.
2. I preferred jail. At least I was getting three squares.
3. Those circles on my chest are actually speakers. Kind of a weird design huh?"
"With the recent release of the Game Room service for the Xbox 360 and PC, I’ve been thinking about gaming as a whole; thinking about the classics, and the re-release thereof, tends to meander in that direction, at least for me. Some aspects of classic gaming have gone away, while some have been preserved to this very day. One such aspect of classic gaming that had previously disappeared, but has come back into fashion in the last few years, is the high score. With Gamerscore being awarded for..."
"The saga of the COGs that has played out over the course of the last 4 years has been a wild ride as we have followed Marcus and co. above and below ground in their final stands against the Locust. After the conclusion of GoW2 it became quite obvious that we would be seeing our ragtag group of heroes once more, most likely in a stunning conclusion and the final, final…final stand of the citizens of Sera. Sure enough, our main man Cliff Bleszinski will no doubt be announcing that we won’t have..."
"The same publishing source that leaked the Gears of War 3 release date is back with something even juicier, gameplay details. Some of this information may put a bit of a damper on Cliff Bleszinski's upcoming reveal on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday."
"Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinksi was originally scheduled to appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this Thursday to announce a new game. Presumably, that new game is Gears of War 3 which is currently rumored to come out in April 2010. It looks like we'll have to wait on that appearance for a few days though because of a "scheduling conflict.""
Yesterday, Jimmy Fallon announced that Epic Games will be revealing their next title on Late Night. Today, Cliff Bleszinki hints at what to expect from the announcement.
The recently re-launched video game magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly, will apparently feature the third installment of the Gears of War series in the next issue.
"Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will have a special guest on next week. Gears of War producer, Cliff Bleszinski (aka CliffyB), will be on the show to debut his newest game. Bleszinski was the lead on both Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2. Gears of War 3 has been anticipated for a while now but there's no guarantee that that will be the game announced."

Gears of War is no doubt one of the biggest titles on the Xbox 360. With the first being an absolute smash hit and the second, whilst selling like hotcakes, being slightly disappointing, the third game in the series, which some expect to be announced at this years E3, has huge expectations on it. Can it be the definitive Gears of War experience? We hope so. In this article, John from All Age Gaming looks at his wants, expectations and possible surprises for Gears of War 3.

"The other night I was wasting time at our local GameStop looking over what new PC and Playstation 3 titles recently hit the shelves and I began talking to the sales associate about the state of the current console wars. He asked me to name my top 10 currently released Xbox 360 titles and see how many of them are exclusive to Microsoft’s system and how they compared to last-gen gaming; the following list is a result of that conversation. Remember that there are many other high-quality games av..."
"Every so often I hear people talk about how they miss the days when Japan ran the game industry. I don't think they so much miss the days when Japanese developers were on top of the world as much as they miss the days when Japanese developers/publishers actually worked in large to promote creativity rather than just follow trends. Those days have faded. While many great games still come out of Japan, thanks mostly to their always shrinking console market and a lack of knowledge on how to revi..."
"A few hours ago we posted a story on what the almighty games analyst Michael Pachter had to say regarding the relationship/contract between Microsoft and Epic Games; Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, gave us his take on the seemingly impossible comments made on the Bonus Round. We asked the folks at Epic, what we already knew to be untrue, if they felt strained or pressured in their relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox 360. Read up on Mr. Pachter's comments in our original story. O..."
"During the development of a game, there are numerous ideas and concepts that either get left on the cutting room floor, or go unnoticed by the general public. Just as interesting as these are the stories and rumors that surround a game after its release, ranging from developer inside info, to random tabloid mentionings. In this series, we pick five random, little-known facts about a game franchise and present them to you for your brain's consumption."
"As the Xbox 360 gets further along into its lifespan as a gaming console, many in the gaming industry and community at large begin to question when exactly a replacement will be on the horizon. However, in the years since it was released, Microsoft has notably proven that the console is capable of evolving, being adapted to the needs and wants of gamers as well as developers. For instance, Project Natal will allow the Xbox 360 to compete in the realm of motion controlled titles. This, on top ..."

"Have you ever wondered how two or more games might compare to another game in a screenshot comparison? Well, of course you have. That’s why it was decided that for the first time here at Blend Games, we’re doing a three-way versus match between three sci-fi shooters."
"As anyone who has played Fallout 3 can tell you, war never changes. If there is one question that has been kicked around between gamers on more than one occasion it’s about the items and weapons we see in the video games we play. After all, what could be better than actually getting your hands on the toys we get to watch our favorite video game characters use on a daily basis? The answer of course is having them and there would be few things cooler than having access to a real Lancer, as terr..."
"Cliffy.B, the design director of the Gears of War franchise has killed all the rumors that have been popping on the internet about the possibility of a Gears of War game on Sony’s console, the PS3.
Speaking on Kotaku radio, when someone had mentioned that Microsoft doesn’t hold the exclusivity of the franchise and asked him about the possibility of the next installment in the series to appear on the PS3 as a multiplatform title, the creative force behind the Gears of War franchise answere..."
"The Xbox 360 launched four years ago today in Europe, ushering in the current-generation of videogames consoles and putting a full stop in the life of the original Xbox. Only a handful of games for Microsoft’s first console made it to UK shores after 2nd December 2005, as the Xbox 360 began its life as the company’s definite priority."
"Now, I don’t think many gamers would mind clones for one of the best selling action franchises of all time, so here is a list for some of the noteworthy MMOTPS games out there (and coming soon) that imitate Epic’s Gears of War."

"It seems as though the hilarious people over at Epic Games have gone and taken one of the best video games of this generation, and merged it with the single worst product ever created; the image below may shock you - and cause your eyes to bleed with envy. Today, PlanetXbox360.com unveils to you (via @DanaCowley - PR for Epic) the Gears of War "Snuggie.""
The Kartel combs through hundreds of video game commercials over the last 25 years, and picks out the ones that are worth watching again. Great nostalgia all the way from the NES era til today.
While the Gears of War series has been a massive success on the Xbox 360, is it time for Microsoft to make the decision that the 3rd game in the trilogy will NOT be released on the Xbox 360, but on the next Xbox?
"Every time a game is successful, critically or commercially, folks start speculating about sequels. Will there be a sequel? How many sequels? When will we see the sequel? What will happen in the sequel? Who shows up in the sequel? Sequel?
That’s too obvious. A truly compelling game deserves the exact opposite. If the story is masterfully written, players will want to see how it actually started. If the world is deeply designed, players will insist on seeing how it first formed. And if the ..."
"Could the Gears of War franchise finally be getting its first playable female character? …maybe. It’s the weekend, “real” news doesn’t happen.
Speaking with 1 vs. 100 LIVE host Chris Cashman during the August 1st live game, Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski, better known to gamers as “Cliffy B”, “The Cliffster” and “Captain Snugglepuff”* was asked if gamers could ever expect to play as a female character in a Gears of War game. Cliff’s answer, in short, was that he could not comment on “possibl..."
Anyone that plays games knows that receiving demos via Xbox live or PSN is never a bad thing. Consumers play the game then go out and buy it right?, but what if playing that demo that someone was excited about changed their feeling about the game in a negative way. At this point was the demo a good idea to even release knowing they just lost a sale? Here are a few reasons why demo's can either help or hurt game releases.
"In the Gears of War games, civilization has been decimated by the Locust Horde and small faction of elite soldiers are engaged in a desperate battle to prevent the extinction of the dwindling human race.
It’s hardly an uplifting premise.
Fortunately, a little levity to this miserable situation is provided courtesy of the vast assortment of comical, entertaining and often cheesy lines that are consistently delivered by Marcus and company."
Cliff Bleszinski, the creative force behind the popular Gears of War games has hinted that he may be contemplating with the idea of taking a different stylistic approach with future installments of the series.
"After a brutal fifteen-year war for survival, the Coalition of Ordered Governments is forced to destroy Jacinto – mankind’s last city – in a final bid to stop the Locust Horde. As the survivors flee, they're caught between the last of the Locust, bent on vengeance, and a primitive struggle to stay alive in an icy wilderness. It’s up to Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, and their fellow Gears to fight to get Jacinto’s refugees to a safe haven. But what they find is a new world; lawless, treacherous,..."
With Epic disappointing many Gears of War fans with the multiplayer mode in Gears of War 2, should they re-release the original Gears of War as a stand alone multiplayer game with updated Graphics and new maps? It would certainly be a good seller!
Unless you want to know which actor played a certain role in a movie or game, people generally don't bother watching credits. Usually consisting of black background with white scrolling text, they're boring. So it's always nice when developers try to spice up the ending credits in an attempt to get you to watch them. Here are Gamesradar's Best And Worst Ending Credits In Games.

If you haven't noticed yet, most recent games have a certain look to them. That dark, grey brown look, where everything looks dead and old. Well it seems to be a trend in most shooters and some non-shooters this generation. Many of us would think that this is just a new art style that the developers are into, gamasutra thinks there is more behind it. And that is the technology of the consoles.
"Apparently Sony is going to reveal the new PlayStation 3 Slim, but what about Microsoft? Will they take a step in the motion sensing direction that I mentioned in a previous week's article? Or will they physically change the appearance of the Xbox 360? Think about it, the all new Xbox 360 Slim! Trade in your old console and x amount of games to get the new Xbox 360 Slim for $99! If Microsoft could successfully decrease the chance of getting the RROD and implement that into a smaller Xbox 360,..."
"With the recent trend of blockbuster games being packaged together (Game of the Year Bundle), it seemed that EPIC’s blockbuster ‘Gears of War‘ series was missing out on its very own package. Well fear not Gears of War fans (11 million of you, and counting), as Microsoft Australia have just announced a special ‘Gears of War’ bundle to be released on the 4th of June to participating retailers.
The limited edition ‘Gears of War’ bundle will include an Xbox 360 Pro console, accompanied by bot..."
"Cover systems aren’t exactly something that have been there since the start for the shooter genre. My own first experience of the cover systems are the snap-on cover mechanics used in Metal Gear Solid, and also the flawless chunky cover system in Gears of War for the Xbox 360. I am a huge fan of developers implementing cover systems into any shooting games, but then again I may be outspoken. For example, a massive number of gamers may play Gears 2 online which may suggest that covers systems ..."
In this article All Age Gaming look at five console games that have been released on either the Wii, PS3 or 360 that have helped to shape this generation of gaming.
"Microsoft previously stated that at this year's E3, it will “completely transform how people think about home entertainment”. The newly rumoured motion controller that detects “full body” movement could be what Microsoft has up its sleeve. According to an anonymous tipster at Engadget, Microsoft is working on a Wii-like sensor that tracks, as I stated above, “Full body” movement in an attempt to improve on the Wii's motion sensing success. This sensor allows the user to kick, punch, duck, div..."
"Shooters truly are a haven for folks that enjoy inflicting massive amounts of pain on the enemies they encounter in games (read: not in real life). It’s good, harmless fun and a nice way to release some pent-up frustration without causing any property damage (or doing anything else you shouldn’t do that would land you in hot water).
Of course, there are certain weapons that are much more adept than others for this purpose. So here is a look at some of the most sinister weapons that we’ve c..."
The last article by Jim Sterling I posted here on Grep seemed to have come with mixed response. I now give you something new that I think we can all agree on... the cheapness that comes with some games trying to make you play for more than necessary.
"While the Xbox360 and Wii have a considerably lower price and larger install base than the PLAYSTATION3, the console isn’t all that far behind the competition. However, since 2006 Sony has been taken a good pummeling by the media (especially in North America) because of the high-price and gaudy promotional campaign for the third-generation PlayStation console. It’s still not uncommon for a lot of journalists and gamers alike to rant on Sony, claiming that their console is “dying” or “failing”..."
"It is unfortunate that in the real world, there are certain types of people who just look like sex offenders. Whether they are or not. Peter Jackson, for example, wouldn't look out of place with his trousers round his ankles, running through a nursery and being sick all over himself. Same goes for Geoffrey out of Rainbow. There are certain people that, should it come to light that they've been arrested for some hideous sexual misdemeanor, we wouldn't be surprised. This is why it's so easy for..."

During a recent panel at a comic con, Gears 2's writer revealed Epic has a 10 year plan in the works and when questioned about single player DLC, told fans to 'Keep watching' and that we 'Won't be dissapointed' also the new Gears of War movie will be the first in a trilogy, we all already know the Gears games have been revealed to be a trilogy as well.
By now I'm sure we're all aware of Resident Evil 5's racism issue, but racial stereotyping is an issue that seems to go beyond beyond just one game.
Darion White, from Edge Online, takes a look at the way black characters are portrayed in video games, both the positive portrayals and the negative ones.
The article mostly focuses on newer titles, such as Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4, while also taking a look at the games of a decade ago, including Final Fantasy...
"It's hard to believe it has taken almost 25 years for someone to make a good Ghostbusters game. Thankfully, Atari came to the rescue and picked up this stranded title for us to finally enjoy.
I came away really impressed with Ghostbusters: The Video Game, even in this short 20 minute demo. It plays sorta similar to Gears of War it even includes its own "rodie run." When you add solid, fun gameplay with terrific writing and voice acting, it usually means good things will happen."
PC gamers who've been playing Gears of War these past few weeks were hit by a major issue which prevented them from playing the game -- this was due to the anti-cheat detection system, and a mistake made on the part of Epic Games.
In any case, an update came out the other day which rectifies the problem -- you can download it at the source.
Binge Gamer's Intern Perry takes a look at the elements that make a game and provides a guide for future games to follow. Listing examples, both good and bad, on some obvious subjects and some not so obvious that need to be taken into account: Play Control, Characters/Writing, Graphics/Glitches, Depth/Replay Value, Atmosphere, Licensing, Hype, Initial concept, Sound and Music. Hit up the source for the in depth read.
"Since the dawn of time, game players could be categorized as one of two things -- winners or losers. If you perform well, you win a game. If you dont, you lose. Its as simple as that. Lately, however, weve seen a paradigm shift; now we are seeing games you cant lose. Or, more accurately, games that dont have any clear, defined "losing" state. Were used to the tried-and-true "game over" screen, but what if you cant get a game over? Would it still be a game?"
I don't own either game in the franchise, but from I've heard Gears of War and its sequel both had large amounts of problems with their online modes, and Saul Berenbaum has had enough. He recounts his own experiences with laggers, glitchers and just down right cheaters and wants it to stop. As he quite welly sums up "For the love of God, men, you should be in control here, not 12-year-olds and quarter-assed wannabe hackers"
With Christmas just past how could we have missed this video? Details are unknown about the video but...poor Santa. If you're a GoW fan or know about the game I'm sure you already have an idea on what's going to happen. Ho ho ho, hope you had a good Holiday Season!

"So here's the thing, Wii Fit has mass-market appeal, and Wii Sports comes packed in with the Wii, so it's understandable for them to outsell AAA titles from the other consoles. Wii Play, however, isn't even a GOOD GAME. No one will tell you that it is. Yet the fact that it comes with a Wiimote for only $10 more has encouraged nearly 20 MILLION PEOPLE to drop down their precious cash for the thing. More people own this game than Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Gears of War COMBINED.
I think..."
FPS players play FPS games for a reason, they like to get stuck in hard and fast! This is why tutorials have always been a bit of an annoyance. The gamers would much prefer to just leap into the thick of it and learn as they go.
This is because spending ages learning all the controls is boring and can lose a lot of gamers fast. If the tutorial isn't really engaging, players will just let the game go as they want to immerse themselves in that world as soon as they can. Ghost Recon Advanced ...
SOC from over at the AR15.COM forums has decided to take his potential zombie killing weapon of choice to the next level. How else- but by strapping a chainsaw to it ala Gears of War!

"Sales, LLC announced today that it has finalized work on its 1:1 scale Gears of War Locust Drone design maquette. With Gears of War 2 releasing and their Flashback Map Pack being included with the purchase of a brand new game, the question arises of how well they will play. Well, screenshots were shown of the levels, six months aged from the original Gears of War, and man, are they beautiful. After the jump it shows gameplay of the newly designed levels and how they play against a group of people, and quite frankly, they look to be as good as ever.
"People keep asking me if doing the installation is worth the trouble. Are loading times that much better?
I tested Microsoft's claim on four games, using my NXE-enabled 360. Above, you can watch the initial loading for "Grand Theft Auto IV," DVD vs Hard Drive. After the jump, check out loading comparisons for "Fable II" and "Gears of War."
...Each of the games took about 11 minutes to install and required between 6.6 and 6.8GB. It shaved off about nine to 15 seconds off the initial load..."
You may remember this article a little while back. Well Gameplayer have produced yet another article, this time examining the polar opposite of the Sniper Rifle, the yin to its yang, the Shotgun. The gun has history, tactics and famous incarnations. All of which are examined in this article.
This topic has already been covered fairly well (see: The Problems with Game Criticism, and The Problem with Game Reviews Part 1 & 2), but until we're in a better state, it's always a positive thing, yeah?
Anyhow, Variety's Ben Fritz offers his take on the situation (as a response to Variety critic Leigh Alexander's recent blog), saying we nitpick too much and actively look for things to criticize in games instead of really valuing what needs to be valued and not letting the little stuff (...
Microsoft has announced the '22 Days of Mayhem' Campaign, where they will be giving out two million Microsoft Points in 22 days starting October 17th and ending on November 7th, the launch of Gears of War 2. All you have to do is play some GoW multiplayer.

Sniper Rifles are something you love and hate at the same time. You love it when you own someone halfway across the map with a headshot, and you hate it when your on the...well receiving end. Sniper Rifle's have existed since the dawn of FPS's and beyond and this article examines the god like weapon. It's history, its ups and downs, and a list of some of the best of these beastly weapons every to grace a game are all present here.
"The actual gameplay is an over-the-shoulder style experience, with frantic action that takes place in deathmatch-esque environments. The only difference between this and Gears of War appears to be the armor variations."

GameInformer, the popular magazine about all things gaming that has somewhere near three million subscribers, always has a different game on the cover each time. MTV wanted to see if there was a GI cover curse, so they looked back into the past and pulled out magazines from 2-3 years ago.
One game titled Superman Returns didn't so well, receiving 6/10's. That's nothing compared to Fear and Respect, which was at one point on a GI cover, but ended up being canceled!
All in all, the game...
On Tuesday, July 29th, lawyer and Microsoft game developer Melissa Batten, 36, was fatally shot by her husband, Joseph Batten in what was a murder-suicide in a parking lot in Redmond, Washington.
There were reports of the couple's marriage falling apart, with Melissa Batten filing for a protection order against her estranged husband after a series of events that had culminated in the latter acquiring and brandishing a gun to the late Mrs. Batten. The order was granted one week prior to th...

The first novel, GEARS OF WAR: THE BATTLE OF ASPHO FIELDS, written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Traviss, will go on sale October 28, 2008. "Video-gamers are in for some interesting news. Len Wiseman, director of the Underworld movies, is going to direct the highly anticipated Gears of War movie. While some of you might be cringing right now (and I wouldnt blame you), hear me out.
In recent years, a lot of video game movies have quite frankly sucked. (Doom and Bloodrayne, anyone?) Whether the reason was bad adaptation, unfaithful storyline, poor graphics, or general lack of interest
something came up short. A lot of these movi..."
"There's been a lot of talk over the past few years about how videogames need to provoke more of an emotional response from gamers, and of how the technology is gradually allowing developers the freedom to evoke those responses. But really, videogames have been expertly tapping into one of our most basic emotions for decades: Fear.
Sometimes, all of that fear is inspired by a single character or creature, and when those characters are realized particularly well, throwing down with them can ..."
Updated maps, achievements, preview of Gears of War 2 and trailers are just some of the things that will be included in a new 2-disc re-release of Gears of War for the US market. The original having sold incredibly well, this gives a chance for those that have yet to play the game.
It is currently set to be released on 24th June 2008 for both the PC and XBOX360. No news on the European version as of yet, but it's likely to come eventually.
"TriForce Sales, LLC announced today that it has acquired the license from Epic Games, Inc. to produce 1:1 scale replicas of the weapons and armor from the Gears of War universe. TriForce has partnered with master sculptor Sid Garrand of Nightmare Armor Studios to recreate the gear worn by Delta Squad of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Fans will have a chance to order their own C.O.G. Armor, C.O.G. helmet and the Lancer Assault Rifle, replicas created from designs based on images of Delt..."
A rumor has surfaced that says GoW Redux will be coming next month according to Gamestop's placement. On Gamestop's site, the game is titled "Gears of War with Maps". Also revealed was the price ($39.99) and the pre-order shipment date, which is 6/24/2008.
Its been only a week since Epic Games released the first Gears of War 2 gameplay footage and the game is under the spotlight already. The website azfamily.com are questioning the level of gore and detail in the game. They bring to attention the chainsaw attacks where the player chainsaws a person in half, and "meat shield" which the player uses a corpse to protect themselves from enemy fire.
Steve Wysowski, from Xbox Focus says that he loves Gears of War greatly, but he then rambles on about how he thinks Gears of War 2 will suck when it allegedly releases in November of this year. To basically sum up some of his points, he thinks that Epic has horrible vocabulary, simply calling the game, 'badass'. Then he says that they're also really slow to produce games and how it took them 3 years to make Unreal Tournament 3. Finally, he says that the original game had amazing graphics and ...
"DC Comics and Epic Games today announced that they will be publishing a comic series based around Gears of War. The first comic based on the hit Xbox 360 franchise is set to release in October on DC's WildStorm publishing imprint. Details about the comic's story and creative team will be released later.
"We are thrilled to be working with DC Comics to further bring to life the Gears of War universe. A lot of our developers are huge comic fans, and have loved the personas and chronicles uni..."
With the new edition of High Definition consoles now in stores and selling rapidly like wild fire, the world of video gaming in of itself, is quickly changing. Not long ago you loomed around lazily playing games with a quality so cringing, you literally wanted to rip your eyes out right then and there. But with the new release of all these astounding consoles such as The Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3, the world of gaming has been brightened up and much, much more energizing.
But now, we ...
"On a personal note this was the hardest list I've ever attempted to write. All of these girls are villains in some way, with exception of the Horde. It was a ridiculous quest to find a female in a video games who wasn't attractive. And not just attractive, drop dead, unrealistically gorgeous. I hate to ruin a simple list like this, but why? Why are there no normal to ugly looking females, let alone fat ones. I mean I hate to break it to you people, fats real. People are bitching about how the..."
Some new details were released when Comingsoon.net talked to Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey on the current status of the GoW movie adaption.
Godfrey was quoted on saying
quoteWe've got our script on and a director we're about to attach. We'll hopefully make that early next year for the summer of 2010
The announcement of the game adaption movie was announced in March 2007 that New Line Cinema aquired the rights to a Gears of War flick. No word on who the director will be, lets just hope...
"In the first Gears of War, getting chainsawed was an unpreventable means of death once your enemy was in range with their Lancer revved. For the many of you who saw the recent Gears of War 2 Teaser, the first thought that probably sprang to mind when the battle of chainsaws between Marcus Fenix and the Locust enemy occurred was, So well be able to do this in the game?.
Yes, yes you will.
More info at the source."
The first Gears of War 2 Trailer just released!
Basically not a whole lotta information from this. Just get to see him tearing up some Locust ass.
One good marketing ploy would be tell people about a game that has yet to be announced... and it seems that, it is exactly what GamePro did with their latest issue which is to be put on sale just over a week from today.
That's right, the news that you read there is not actually true. There is no special announcement on Gears of War 2 in the GamePro magazine, and the special report, was actually to do about the XBOX360. What GamePro will actually reveal about the game is certainly a mystery...
The game developers conference will be here in a couple of weeks. Last year HOME and LittleBigPlanet were first showed off to the public. But what games will be at GDC this year. Surfer girl is known for her rumors and known for most of them being right. She says that at GDC 08' we will see Gears Of War 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Alan Wake and Motorstorm 2. Lets hope she is right.
"The original Gears of War came and conquered in November 2006, becoming the fastest selling Xbox 360 game in the process back then, handily crushing all competition that dared step in its way. So a sequel to the game was a given since day one. And even sooner according to Microsofts Jeff Bell, who said the purpose of the games Mad World commercial was to establish Marcus Fenix as the hero of the Gears of War trilogy.
Fast forward about 15 months, and it seems Epic Games is getting ready..."
"Thrashball defensive lineman: Augustus Cole! Playing as number 83 for the Cougars before the legendary Emergence Day, Cole now demolishes the Locust Horde with his buddies in Delta Squad. The Augustus Cole Action Figure captures 'the Cole Train' in all his Locust-crushing glory, including game-accurate accessories and meticulous detail. Full details for Cole will be revealed soon..."
"Official Release:
NECA announces the release of Gears of War Action Figures, due in stores late spring of 2008. The first wave in an ongoing line of action figures, the first assortment includes main character Marcus Fenix, Augustus Cole, and the villainous Locust Drone. Featuring an unprecedented amount of detail, extensive articulation, and game-accurate accessories, the Gears of War Action Figures will appeal to the most dedicated Gears of War players, as well as action figure collectors ..."
"The book will be a prequel to the Gears of War game and take place at the Battle of the Aspho fields, a setting where Marcus Fenix apparently performed some pretty heroic feats. It is mentioned several times in the game and the book should finally give fans the whole story of what took place there."
"Asked if Epic is categorically never going to release them as downloads for Xbox 360 users, Rein said, "It looks that way."
Never? "Well, never say never, but I mean there's no plans to do it. The problem is the two versions aren't really compatible," he added, reiterating the previous explanation that the PC and Xbox 360 code-bases are too far removed from one another for an efficient patch.
Gears of War on PC introduces chapters that bridge the gap between events at the end of Act 4 a..."
As we continue on towards the holiday season, I'm inclined to believe that this notable games list will continue to grow into gigantic proportions.
Joystiq has Call of Duty 4 as the highlight, but honestly, you can't pin the total spotlight this week on a single game. Besides, one of the greatest games ever came out for the Virtual Console.
Notable games this week:
Alien Soldier (VC)
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War (360, PS3)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (360, PS3, DS, PC)
Dra...

As we continue on towards the holiday season, we see more and more games coming out trying to get a piece of the incredibly huge holiday pie.
Obviously, the highlight this week is Guitar Hero III, for Wii, PS3, PS2, 360.
Notables games this week:
Battalion Wars 2 (Wii)
Gears of War OSG (PC)
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (360, PS3, Wii, PS2)
Guitar Hero & Guitar Hero II Pack (PS2)
King of Fighters XI (PS2)
Hellgate: London (PC)
Manhunt 2 (Wii, PS2, PSP)
Naruto: Rise of a Ninj...
I'm assuming the latest EGM is going to be rolling out soon, and thus, we get some more Quartermann rumors, and these are pretty good. They've been on a roll recently.
The rumors start off with what we would expect: God of War 3 and Gears of War 2.
However, the zinger is that there's the possibility of a Skies of Arcadia 2.
Good God, I hope that comes true.
"360 fans, look away. You're about to get very jealous. This latest footage from the upcoming PC port of Gears of War is as gory and wonderful as one would expect, but with some added goodies that you won't want to miss out on. Plus is that a brief new clip of that oh-so-awesome Brumak fight? Yes, I believe it is!"
"CliffyB, gaming superstar and El Presidente of Epic Games, has been hard at work getting Gears of War up to speed to work for the PC. With some help from Tom and the folks at Gamerscore, we got the chance to hit up Cliffy for a little Q and A."
"Remember some people were bitching about having to pay $10 for four maps when the Hidden Fronts Map Pack was released? And then they said they will just wait until September when itll be free? Well now they can join in on the action, because the Hidden Fronts Map Pack will be free to download as of September 3rd. With almost 500,000 downloads so far, Hidden Fronts has become the number one selling piece of premium content over the Xbox Live Marketplace. Four maps are included in the pack, an..."
While PS3 fanboys likely turn their noses up at the possibility of playing Gears of War ("Bah! It's no Killzone 2!!), the PS3 would certainly benefit from the Epic Games titan's arrival. Sadly, that ain't gonna happen. But Mark Rein of Epic Games says it's not a problem, PS3 owners will still be getting top notch stuff from the studio because of lessons learned throughout the 360 version of Gears.
We weren't too surprised to learn that Gears of War was going to be coming to the PC, we were however surprised to learn that there will be no cross platform play between the PC and XBOX360 versions of the games.
People have come up with various reasonings behind why there is no cross-platform play, however ComputerAndVideoGames.com have finally gotten the real reason:- The PC and XBOX360 Gears of War bases aren't compatible.
The PC version uses the [Unreal Engine 3] engine code, where ...
"NECA have announced that it has entered into an agreement with Epic Games to make a full line
of collectible action figures, busts, statues, dioramas and prop replicas from GOW and any
potential sequels. They plan to have a full line of products available in 2008, including many of
the most popular characters from the game.
NECA has some of the most impressive collectible action figures weve ever seen. Were thrilled
that theyve chosen to work with us and have great confidence i..."
"GFW: We'll see, because everyone's tardy with their stuff. Of course, Crysis is coming out. We'll see if that makes it out... Not necessarily declaring one or the other better-looking right off the bat, but...
MR: If that's the quote you want, is Crysis better-looking than Gears of War? I don't think so. It's different. It looks great in its own way, but does it top the graphics bar for Gears of War? No.
...
GFW: Considering right now I don't even have Vista... [Laughs]
MR: That's..."
""It's very unlikely because the two code bases aren't compatible", Rein outlined. "To do that, we would have to patch the 360 version and the size of the patch would probably dwarf all five updates we've done so far. It's just too much work. I can't see it happening... It's not impossible, it's just unlikely.""
28 tracks of pure GoW themes and music goodness coming on July 31st. Some great tracks that stand out are "I Will Kryll You" and "Fill 'er Up at Chap's." Rekindle the great story that is Gears of War with this CD that worth more than an hour of listening pleasure.
These titles are Krunal-creative, haha. It's hard to hear these themes during the game, what with all the shooting and shouting, so here's more somewhat peaceful perspective.
Check out the full songs list here.
Round One has begun between Silicon Knights and Epic Games, as Silicon Knights who were previously reported to have dropped the Epic Engine for the XBOX 360 game Too Human, have filed a 54-page lawsuit against Epic Games over the Unreal Engine 3.
The lawsuit states that due to contractual breaches, they were foced to create their own game engine causing them [Silicon Kinights] to spend time and resources on creating it's engine rather than focusing on their games, which in turn also caused...
Epic Games' VP Mark Rein has revealed that Macintosh gamers will soon be able to experience native Apple OS X versions of both Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3. The news comes weeks after Apple CEO Steve Jobs committed to more support for Macintosh gaming at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference.
Gears of War and Unreal Tournament are flagship franchises for Epic Games.
"Most of you have seen by now that Gears of War is coming to the PC (bet you never saw that one coming.) Having been able to see (and play) the game first-hand last week, all I can say is "I think I'm in love... Again..."
The game looks amazing on the Xbox 360, but on Windows Vista, running at 1280p (1900x1280 resolution) it is jaw-dropping. I sat there with my mouth open as CliffyB and Rod Ferguson explained the controls to me. The roadie-run controls (double-tap W, A, S, D to run OR u..."
"In a move not considered too surprising, Microsoft announced that the popular Epic Games-developed shooter Gears of War will be coming to the PC under the Games For Windows line. Playable on both Windows XP and Vista, Gears of War will feature five new single-player missions, new multiplayer arenas playable via Games For Windows Live, and a game editor.
PC gamers can expect to see Gears of War this holiday season."
"Today it was the birthday of one of our workmates who is very, very crazy about Gears of War (like me!). A week ago, we were all deciding how to give him a surprise. After much brainstorming, we decided to give him his ultimate fantasy, a Gears of War cake!
The only thing was, we didnt know was where to get it done. We downloaded a picture of the Crimson Omen and ran fast to a lady baker in Mumbai. She was a little bit skeptical about making it. Yeah, it is understood as she mostly gets o..."
This patch is said to fix some exploits and bugs found in GoW's multiplayer, such as stopping players from attaching to walls. But even more important, eight new achievements for you achievement-craving guys, heh. It's required that you have the Annex map type as well as the Hidden Fronts map pack to earn these new ones, but who doesn't have that by now?
Bit obvious here, but some good reasons and info in the article...well with bragging by Shane Kim. Bungie has had fans for years since the first Halo, and the amount of fanbase has only increased each passing day leading up to the anticipated sequel, so I can see how it'll do better than Gears of War.
Both are FPS, with slightly similar gameplay, but Halo's multiplayer has quite an edge, with it's weapons and such.
Amazing real-life recreation of the famous Gears of Ware armor, with some of the key characters' armor from the game being fully recreated and fitted in real life. Includes pictures and developer Cliffy B's impressions!
"The latest Diamond Comics catalog has revealed that Boom Studios will publish an official Gears of War comic book, beginning with a #0 issue this August. There's no info yet on if the comic series based on Epic's Xbox 360 shooter will adapt the game's storyline or will have an original story but the #0 issue will be written by Andrew Cosby who co-created the Sci-Fi channel series Eureka."
Gears of War fans will soon see some new maps along with new achievements, "relating to Annex and the Hidden Fronts downloadable content." No official date has been set on when this will release but it's certainly in development as we speak.
The team is also getting a jump on fixing up something on the game that most players don't like - Getting stuck in a cover position when you mean to run past it or to a different location.
Two great updates for the game. Can't wait until they're rel...
The Epic forums administrator Mark Rein has killed all the rumours flying around that one of the most successful Xbox 360 games, Gears of War was going to be ported to PS3. He posted in Epics forum saying that he emailed the source of the rumour and asked them to take it down. He says it's all rubbish and if it wasn't for Microsoft the game wouldn't have been all that successful.
Just a few days ago Sega has licensed the Unreal 3 Engine, which is the identical engine for Gears of War. Now considering that the Wii is less superior in graphics when compared with the Playstation 3 & Xbox 360, can a Wii actually handle games that use the Unreal 3 Engine? Also I quote from the article:
"Sega haven't actually ruled out the engine being used for Wii development"
So the Wii may have some hidden powers the developers have yet to uncover?
"Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imul..."
Epic games wished to give away their addition gears of war maps for free, Microsft however wanted to charge for the maps via Xbox live market place. Microsoft compromised with the studio by deciding to follow the successful model that Halo 2 started a few years ago, the new Gears of War maps will be available for a yet to be determined fee, then made free in a few months time.
