"There’s something about certain games that naturally draw me in. This is considerably easier with any sort of RPG that involves decisions and progression that allow you to influence not only your character, but the actual game itself. I’ve spent so much time with these games because I’m able to make the character my own, affect the environment, and play the game almost exactly how I want to play it."

"Gears of War 3 launched last Tuesday and has quickly become a best seller and a favorite among Xbox 360 owners. The conclusion to the trilogy of Gears games took a slight step back from the “campiness” of its predecessors and series creator Cliff Bleszinski is hoping to be able to continue that trend moving forward. Check out the news below."

"Do you like Epic's games? Wish there was something else in the works besides another Gears of War? You're in luck then. Today at GDC Europe, it was made known that the developer is currently working on five new games (count 'em- five) in various stages of development and prototyping, none of which are related to the Gears of War franchise."

"For this list I have decided to countdown my 10 favorite video games of all time, this is not a “10 best” list because I only want to cover games that I have actually played and there are some classics that I haven’t touched (like any of the Zelda games) But the games are in order and I have limited my choices to one per franchise. Here we go!"

"For this top 10 list I have decided to countdown my 10 favorite video game heroes. These characters earn a spot on this list by being courageous, daring, strong, skilled, smart, or any combination of those that make them shine above the crowd. These characters are vital to the survival of numerous people and they are the best at what they do. I’ve only included characters from games that I have personally played. Here’s my 10 favorite video game heroes:"

"If you are looking for a good sale on Gears of War 2 add-ons then you are in luck because all of the Gears of War 2 add-on content is on sale on Xbox Live right now but only for this week. Check out the deal below."

Jason Trent with GoozerNation writes: "When big titles are releasing as often as they do, it can be pretty tough to find the time to really invest in a multiplayer experience. Every now and then there’s a short lull, usually lasting only a week or two, when I can play something in my back catalog. Normally I opt to go with a single player experience, because that’s more of my play style, but ever since the Gears of War 3 beta, I’ve had an itch for more, and since that’s not really a possibili...

"A movie based on the extremely popular Xbox 360 series, Gears of War, has been rumoured since the original game hit shelves all those years ago. Movie-based games are always a worry for fans of the game and fans of films alike. Hear what Cliff Bleszinski had to say about the topic at this year's E3."

Microsoft today revealed that seven new games will be joining the Platinum Collection lineup, the equivalent to Platinum Hits from North America, in Japan.

"I had the pleasure to meet the man who voices not only Dom from the Gears of War series, but also from the Assassin’s Creed’s Leonardo Da Vinci, Carlos Ferro. A voice actor, DJ, performer, and all around great guy, Ferro was the guest of honor at the Gamers Gone Wild Party hosted by the awesome gaming communities 2 Old 2 Play and SFX-360."

"George Lucus struck gold when he cast Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy but today Mark Hamill could be known best as the brilliant Emmy Award winning voice behind The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: The animated series. Mark Hamill has an amazing career as a voice actor and has contributed to numerous animated TV shows such as Batman, The Hulk, Fantastic 4 just to name a few. Marks voice is well known for multiple video game characters none more so tha..."

The Gears of War franchise has been exclusive on the Xbox 360 since the first game launched in 2006, though Epic President Mike Capps said he would like it if the franchise also came out to the Playstation 3.

Cliff Blezinski, the creator of Gears of Wars runs through 6 important lessons in creating AAA games. According to Cliff, gaming companies need to strive to make a game that will last forever, rather than a game that just gets good reviews.

The seventh generation of gaming has caused gamers to go crazy on message boards and blogs as they argue about which system is best. Newsflash: They're all pretty awesome, and they're all a lot of fun to play.

The ascension of Sony's NGP to the headlines and past that of the Nintendo 3DS is remarkable. Before the NGP was announced, all anyone wanted to talk about was how 3D is the future. Check out the major news regarding the NGP and the Unreal Engine. Cheers!

"So it has been a few months since the first few comparisons that we did in Part 1, so it is once again time to compare a few sequels and their respective predecessors – some new and some not so new.

As previously discussed, games do have it a little easier than films in that they can rely on game play to make a game better, not simply the characters and plot line.

If a games plot and characters are weak, it is still possible for it to be a successful and even good game – if the plot an..."

"The trend of including cooperative campaigns has grown in popularity over the years. While many of our favorite franchises are still coming to grips with the cooperative modes, we see great innovation and experience a great sense of achievement in the ones that make it a priority."

"The month of facial hair is finally underway, and in celebration of Movember we are saluting those moustachioed men across the globe and those who are still currently growing their man-hair above their top lip."

Are these the five best "number twos" of the current console generation? One site thinks so. Check out this list of the five best sequels on the current round of gaming hardware.

"Gears of War 3 is still a year away. I’m expecting great things, but you know my thoughts on the relationship between skepticism and faith. So, I’ll still have to see it to believe it when it comes to this game. But knowing that Epic has been listening to us all along gives me this sense that, when it comes to GoW3, we’re all in this together. And there’s something comforting in that."

A Gears of War 2 xp event is being held between the 3rd and 7th of September. Similar to last time the multiplier will be the number of Gears of War 2's facebook likes /1000. The event will be uncapped so head over to http://www.facebook.com/gearsofwar?ref=ts and like the page.

"In the world of Gears of War 2 multiplayer, earning your "wings" means you've reached the maximum rank of 100 after playing many matches online. This achievement has been diluted a bit with the multiple double, triple and even 20x XP events hosted for the game but Gears of War Executive Producer Rod Ferguson has revealed a little incentive for those who have yet to max out their online experience."

The slimmer and quieter new Xbox 360 S model should bring plenty of new consumers into the Xbox 360 universe. Of course, buying the system won’t mean much without purchasing some games as well. Here are the top 10 exclusive games to buy along with the new Xbox 360 S model.

"Just last week I conducted a little experiment. We all have that X gamer on our friends list that will stop at nothing to get that one Achievement or rank within a game. So I thought I'd see what the fuss is all about and to find out how far some gamers will go to reach the promise land that is in there heads and to be call the great one by no one for having that crazy high rank or achievement."

"Memorial Day is more than just another day for you to head over to your neighbors, have a beer, a burger and trade the latest stories. It’s a day when you remember the veterans who’ve sacked up to travel the world over and defend the freedoms we hold near and dear by doing the job that needs to be done. While there are multiple dynamics to how Warfighters get said mission accomplished – it sometimes results in the need to annihilate enemies with grim precision. As it has always been with Vide..."

"Epic Games hasn't been focusing all their attention on Gears of War 3. No, they are still working on making the Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 2 all that it can be with the sixth title update coming soon for the game with a host of fixes and improvements."

"In today's shooter-filled market, we spend a lot of time spraying bullets and looking down scopes. But every modern shooter gives us some kind of blunt weapon or knife for up-close encounters. In real life, if a badguy charged at you with a knife, you'd probably still shoot him. But video games make the melee button so satisfying, as you watch an opponent crumple to the ground, stumble backwards, or see the "Beat-Down" medal flash on screen. Melee weapons add a visceral side to our shooters a..."

Fan of Lost Planet and Killzone, or Gears? Well than this should catch your interest, some sweet DLC is coming to Lost Planet 2 in the form of Helghast and Marcus. Get some new skins for the online mode with these to add on packs. So if Ps3 owners get helghast, and 360 owners get Gears, quite a good way to treat each console. Check out the video after the jump.

"In the world of games the male lead has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Among the things a hero has to accomplish is being a tough guy or a bad-ass in this case. While plenty have accomplished this throughout the history of gaming, few have made major impacts in gaming in the last ten years. What does it take to be a bad-ass you ask? Well first of all you have to be able to hold your own in a fight despite all the odds being stacked against you. There's no denying that the guys on o..."

"1. My prison number was 098356-GX. But, you can call me Marcus.

2. I preferred jail. At least I was getting three squares.

3. Those circles on my chest are actually speakers. Kind of a weird design huh?"

"When Gears of War 2 was released, playing the multiplayer portion of the game was, at best, a chore because of match-making issues that would cause the game to spend long periods of time finding online games. In a surprising bit of candor, Cliff Bleszinski acknowledges the problems with Gears of War 2 multiplayer and promises that there are a number of steps they are taking to improve the online experience for Gears of War 3."

"The saga of the COGs that has played out over the course of the last 4 years has been a wild ride as we have followed Marcus and co. above and below ground in their final stands against the Locust. After the conclusion of GoW2 it became quite obvious that we would be seeing our ragtag group of heroes once more, most likely in a stunning conclusion and the final, final…final stand of the citizens of Sera. Sure enough, our main man Cliff Bleszinski will no doubt be announcing that we won’t have..."

Yesterday, Jimmy Fallon announced that Epic Games will be revealing their next title on Late Night. Today, Cliff Bleszinki hints at what to expect from the announcement.

The recently re-launched video game magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly, will apparently feature the third installment of the Gears of War series in the next issue.

"Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will have a special guest on next week. Gears of War producer, Cliff Bleszinski (aka CliffyB), will be on the show to debut his newest game. Bleszinski was the lead on both Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2. Gears of War 3 has been anticipated for a while now but there's no guarantee that that will be the game announced."

"You’re standing in a dank dungeon, looking for a door that doesn’t exist. The lights flicker, and you hear the raging scream of a distant enemy. Flump, flump – the steps are getting closer. Arming yourself with your favourite weapon, you peer around a corner in the low light and you see him: the Big Daddy. By this time in the game, you have crossed over a mysterious threshold – your brain has mapped itself into the undersea world of Rapture and all you care about is saving your own skin. An i..."

"Unfortunately, this type of sequel success isn’t always a given. Even some of the biggest franchises out there have stumbled on their second tries, leaving a plethora of heartbroken fans in the wake of an either flawed or drastically different than expected sequel. As testament to this all too common phenomenon, here are five of the most notable examples of sequels throughout the years bearing the number 2, or the significantly more stylish Roman numeral II, that sadly couldn’t manage to li..."

The overall best use of music in videogame commercials are here. Including well known tracks like "So happy together" to mostly unknown "How it ends." Check out these videos and cool tracks and find out what made them so great.

"We all have massive amounts of games we haven't played yet. You might have a brand new game sitting on your shelf right NOW that hasn't been touched. Might still be sealed too! Even worse, you might've paid FULL PRICE on launch day to play this game, and you still haven't done anything more than open it to check out the manual on the crapper.

I'm that guy too"

"Mankind has had a fascination with beings from beyond the stars ever since someone first realized that it was possible. They make feature appearances in our television shows, books, films, and even our music. Sometimes they’re benevolent creatures that wish to learn from each other’s culture and murderous experiences. Other times they’re rampant predators with no goal more complex than using us as incubators for their young. Whether they’re coincidentally humanoid or unbelievably hideous, the..."

Gears of War is no doubt one of the biggest titles on the Xbox 360. With the first being an absolute smash hit and the second, whilst selling like hotcakes, being slightly disappointing, the third game in the series, which some expect to be announced at this years E3, has huge expectations on it. Can it be the definitive Gears of War experience? We hope so. In this article, John from All Age Gaming looks at his wants, expectations and possible surprises for Gears of War 3.

"Well, congratulations Playstation 3 owners, MAG has finally been out for a bit and admittedly, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. The prospect of games totaling 256 players is intriguing, but should we as 360 owners catch a case of the Green-Eyed Monster and feel some kind of envy? The short answer is no, at least for now."

There's been some talk going around lately about the relationship between Nintendo and third party developers. An example being difficulty with hardcore third party titles. Lee Evans has posted a blog entry going over some facts and figures in an effort to shed some light on the matter and the severity of the situation.

"This generation has seen its fair share of epic titles, captivating narratives and intense action -- but not very many iconic, unique, or influential game characters in comparison to previous generations. Luckily though, there are a few of these figures in the current generation."

"Every so often I hear people talk about how they miss the days when Japan ran the game industry. I don't think they so much miss the days when Japanese developers were on top of the world as much as they miss the days when Japanese developers/publishers actually worked in large to promote creativity rather than just follow trends. Those days have faded. While many great games still come out of Japan, thanks mostly to their always shrinking console market and a lack of knowledge on how to revi..."

"A few hours ago we posted a story on what the almighty games analyst Michael Pachter had to say regarding the relationship/contract between Microsoft and Epic Games; Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, gave us his take on the seemingly impossible comments made on the Bonus Round. We asked the folks at Epic, what we already knew to be untrue, if they felt strained or pressured in their relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox 360. Read up on Mr. Pachter's comments in our original story. O..."

"When a phrase catches on, it really catches on. You can't turn a corner in the internet gaming community without seeing an article complaining about Nintendo's laziness. IGN is already plagued with two of them.

But the sheer mind-crushing irony of these articles almost makes them too funny to complain. The pot really is calling the kettle black. Has anyone ever taken their crosshairs off of Nintendo to aim at the same old song and dance that other developers are cashing in on? Apparently n..."

"During the development of a game, there are numerous ideas and concepts that either get left on the cutting room floor, or go unnoticed by the general public. Just as interesting as these are the stories and rumors that surround a game after its release, ranging from developer inside info, to random tabloid mentionings. In this series, we pick five random, little-known facts about a game franchise and present them to you for your brain's consumption."

"Have you ever wondered how two or more games might compare to another game in a screenshot comparison? Well, of course you have. That’s why it was decided that for the first time here at Blend Games, we’re doing a three-way versus match between three sci-fi shooters."

"As anyone who has played Fallout 3 can tell you, war never changes. If there is one question that has been kicked around between gamers on more than one occasion it’s about the items and weapons we see in the video games we play. After all, what could be better than actually getting your hands on the toys we get to watch our favorite video game characters use on a daily basis? The answer of course is having them and there would be few things cooler than having access to a real Lancer, as terr..."

"Cliffy.B, the design director of the Gears of War franchise has killed all the rumors that have been popping on the internet about the possibility of a Gears of War game on Sony’s console, the PS3.

Speaking on Kotaku radio, when someone had mentioned that Microsoft doesn’t hold the exclusivity of the franchise and asked him about the possibility of the next installment in the series to appear on the PS3 as a multiplatform title, the creative force behind the Gears of War franchise answere..."

A brand new selection of Gears of War merchandise has been revealed today, undoubtedly set to slot into the series’ fans “most-wanted” lists rather highly. Expected for release this fourth quarter in the UK, the Gears of War - Delta Squad Box Set is just what many UK Gears of Wars fans have been waiting for.

"It seems as though the hilarious people over at Epic Games have gone and taken one of the best video games of this generation, and merged it with the single worst product ever created; the image below may shock you - and cause your eyes to bleed with envy. Today, PlanetXbox360.com unveils to you (via @DanaCowley - PR for Epic) the Gears of War "Snuggie.""

Neoseeker editor Lydia Sung returns to the fray today with an editorial about the Xbox LIVE Avatar Marketplace, which, like many gamers out there, she feels is disrespectful to customers.

Not usually just one to rant though, she offers up three major suggestions Microsoft can make use of to please (mostly) everyone.

Check it out at the source, where you can also find a fashion show of sorts -- this may be your only chance to see our fearless editor in a storm trooper outfit.

While the Gears of War series has been a massive success on the Xbox 360, is it time for Microsoft to make the decision that the 3rd game in the trilogy will NOT be released on the Xbox 360, but on the next Xbox?

Just confirmed by Epic is a Game of the Year Edition of Gears of War 2. Including all previous DLC, this one is coming next week, and for just $36 (assuming you don't buy at GameStop).

"Gears of War 2 been out in the West for nearly a year and it finally came out in Japan last week. Before the launch I spoke with Cliff Bleszinski, Lead Designer, of Gears of War 2 and asked what he thought about bringing Gears 2 to Japan.

How do you feel about the Japanese version of Gears of War 2?

Cliff Bleszinski, Lead Designer: They actually did a really good job casting the voices. Marcus sounds like, you know, how a Japanese version of Marcus would sound like and Cole Train always..."

"Could the Gears of War franchise finally be getting its first playable female character? …maybe. It’s the weekend, “real” news doesn’t happen.

Speaking with 1 vs. 100 LIVE host Chris Cashman during the August 1st live game, Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski, better known to gamers as “Cliffy B”, “The Cliffster” and “Captain Snugglepuff”* was asked if gamers could ever expect to play as a female character in a Gears of War game. Cliff’s answer, in short, was that he could not comment on “possibl..."

"2nd August 2009 - Welcome readers to this week’s All Age Gaming "The Week That Was".This week we talk more about Games on Demand, slim PS3 rumours and the Wii’s software domination. There weren’t any new game releases for the three major consoles this week, so let’s move straight into the news."

"The most disappointing thought about the whole Road to Ruin scene is the fact that they actually took it out. It really brings the Locust underworld together. Before seeing this highway in action, it’s easy to mistake the Hollow as a couple unconnected temples and the Nexus, without much in between."

"This is an exciting week because of all the new Dashboard preview but there’s more new items to take a look at on LIVE. The Xbox Summer of Arcades continues for the second week with Marvel VS. Capcom 2 along with some rocking new Rock Band tracks, the Far Cry Fortunes Pack Deal of the Week, Gears of War 2 map packs and more."

Anyone that plays games knows that receiving demos via Xbox live or PSN is never a bad thing. Consumers play the game then go out and buy it right?, but what if playing that demo that someone was excited about changed their feeling about the game in a negative way. At this point was the demo a good idea to even release knowing they just lost a sale? Here are a few reasons why demo's can either help or hurt game releases.

"First off- as a note, if any of you are still undecided whether or not to purchase the Dark Corners DLC. I say it is VERY worth it. The all fronts collection (which contains 19 maps and the single player expansion) shouldn’t even be hesitated upon for 1600 points."

Gears of War armor for your Xbox 360 Avatar. Players will have a choice between Locust and COG Armor. However, players will need to purchase these from the upcoming Avatar Marketplace. No price has yet been specified.

"The much anticipated Downloadable Content (DLC) for Gears of War 2 is about to hit the XBOX 360 Marketplace. Gears of War 2: Dark Corners DLC offers gamers 19 multiplayer maps and a deleted scene chapter titled "Road to Ruin"."

"So here we are, with yet another piece of DLC for Gears of War 2. This time we get a lot. Included in this DLC pack is an additional single player scene, new maps and some new achievements. It’s a lot of quantity but how is the quality?"

"Eurogamer: I know you haven't made any announcements regarding a possible third instalment in the Gears of War series, and I know you hate stupid questions along those lines. So when is Gears of War 3 out?

Mark Rein: Haha! Gears of War what?

Eurogamer: Gears of War 3. You made quite a successful series of shooter games called Gears of War, do you remember?

Mark Rein: You know we're still working on Gears of War 2, right?

Eurogamer: No, Gears of War 2 was released last November. Di..."

"In the Gears of War games, civilization has been decimated by the Locust Horde and small faction of elite soldiers are engaged in a desperate battle to prevent the extinction of the dwindling human race.

It’s hardly an uplifting premise.

Fortunately, a little levity to this miserable situation is provided courtesy of the vast assortment of comical, entertaining and often cheesy lines that are consistently delivered by Marcus and company."

It has been revealed that the 4th Title Update for Gears of War 2 has now been released on Xbox Live and is starting to filter throughout the world to hopefully improve the multiplayer experience for Gears 2 fans. This new update also adds support for the new campaign chapter to be released on July 28. For the full list on additions and fixes, see inside.

Cliff Bleszinski, the creative force behind the popular Gears of War games has hinted that he may be contemplating with the idea of taking a different stylistic approach with future installments of the series.

"After a brutal fifteen-year war for survival, the Coalition of Ordered Governments is forced to destroy Jacinto – mankind’s last city – in a final bid to stop the Locust Horde. As the survivors flee, they're caught between the last of the Locust, bent on vengeance, and a primitive struggle to stay alive in an icy wilderness. It’s up to Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, and their fellow Gears to fight to get Jacinto’s refugees to a safe haven. But what they find is a new world; lawless, treacherous,..."

If you haven't noticed yet, most recent games have a certain look to them. That dark, grey brown look, where everything looks dead and old. Well it seems to be a trend in most shooters and some non-shooters this generation. Many of us would think that this is just a new art style that the developers are into, gamasutra thinks there is more behind it. And that is the technology of the consoles.

"At approximately 6:28pm GMT this evening, Microsoft kick-started this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with their invitation-only Press Conference, highlighting the forthcoming year of Xbox 360 events. Electronic Theatre now brings you the full rundown of the event, with an insightful analysis of how each revelation will affect you, and the way you play games."

"Rod Fergusson: First, we decided to make Dark Corners available for 1200 points on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, a reduction from 1600. Don't get me wrong, Dark Corners is the biggest Game Add-on we've ever released, and it was a good deal at the old price, but based upon community feedback this just felt like the right thing to do. "With the recent trend of blockbuster games being packaged together (Game of the Year Bundle), it seemed that EPIC’s blockbuster ‘Gears of War‘ series was missing out on its very own package. Well fear not Gears of War fans (11 million of you, and counting), as Microsoft Australia have just announced a special ‘Gears of War’ bundle to be released on the 4th of June to participating retailers.

The limited edition ‘Gears of War’ bundle will include an Xbox 360 Pro console, accompanied by bot..."

"Cover systems aren’t exactly something that have been there since the start for the shooter genre. My own first experience of the cover systems are the snap-on cover mechanics used in Metal Gear Solid, and also the flawless chunky cover system in Gears of War for the Xbox 360. I am a huge fan of developers implementing cover systems into any shooting games, but then again I may be outspoken. For example, a massive number of gamers may play Gears 2 online which may suggest that covers systems ..."

Major Nelson has posted up the Live Activity for the week of May 11th, and with that comes some regulars, along with some .. weirdness... such as the fact that the UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo has made it's way on the top ten for the fourth week in a row! I played it, I don't get it, how is this on the list.. *shrugs shoulders*. Though being out a year and a half, as well as having a sequel, Call of Duty 4 continues to carry a high rank on the list :D

"Suggested to be available simultaneously with the Gears of War 2: All Fronts retail package, the opportunity to obtain DLC through retail stores is increasingly rapidly in 2009, most probably due to the success of the Grand Theft Auto: Lost and the Damned retail package which, although simply offering a Grand Theft Auto: Lost and the Damned themed Microsoft Points Card (with the exact amount of Microsoft Points required to purchase the DLC), has been supported by many multinational retail cha..."

"Microsoft previously stated that at this year's E3, it will “completely transform how people think about home entertainment”. The newly rumoured motion controller that detects “full body” movement could be what Microsoft has up its sleeve. According to an anonymous tipster at Engadget, Microsoft is working on a Wii-like sensor that tracks, as I stated above, “Full body” movement in an attempt to improve on the Wii's motion sensing success. This sensor allows the user to kick, punch, duck, div..."

"Gears of War 2 recently achieved the 5 million units sold landmark. To accompany this achievement, Microsoft and Epic Games are announcing a new downloadable pack for Gears of War 2."

"Shooters truly are a haven for folks that enjoy inflicting massive amounts of pain on the enemies they encounter in games (read: not in real life). It’s good, harmless fun and a nice way to release some pent-up frustration without causing any property damage (or doing anything else you shouldn’t do that would land you in hot water).

Of course, there are certain weapons that are much more adept than others for this purpose. So here is a look at some of the most sinister weapons that we’ve c..."

"Why he's overrated: Speaking of 'roid rage, check out this loser. Marcus Fenix is the kind of muscle-bound buffoon that makes even guys like Kratos seem like introspective philosophers. His personality consists entirely of grunting, shouting, and shooting.

As much as Epic Games has tried to fool gamers by licensing tie-in novels and comic books, we all know the truth. There is no real story to be had for Marcus in Gears of War, aside from arm up, take aim and go on a bug hunt. It's all ab..."

"We may live at the “arse end of the world“, as former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating infamously said, but we deserve better than half-arsed matchmaking.

Multiplayer is one of the main reasons that many gamers purchase Gold Xbox Live membership; to gain the ability to face off against their friends and many other gamers around the world in the game of their choice.

The last article by Jim Sterling I posted here on Grep seemed to have come with mixed response. I now give you something new that I think we can all agree on... the cheapness that comes with some games trying to make you play for more than necessary.

"Gears of War 2 fans around the world can engage in even more intense action in treacherous winter settings offered by the latest Gears of War 2 Add-on, the Snowblind Map Pack. Trudge, crawl and roadie run through the harshest of weather conditions as you and your squadmates dive into four new Multiplayer Maps."

"So the Game Developers Conference’s 09 (GDC’s) brought a couple of surprises so far. A new Zelda for the DS, third party motion controls for 360, a new Ratchet & Clank for our PS3 comrades, and the entry of Warner Bros to the fray that may well have had fanboys disorientated and asking “Errr… what’s up doc?”

But where’s the goods from Microsoft? Some would lead you to believe that Microsoft has announced its full line up just like they had this time last year… oh yeah, that’s the problem…

"While the Xbox360 and Wii have a considerably lower price and larger install base than the PLAYSTATION3, the console isn’t all that far behind the competition. However, since 2006 Sony has been taken a good pummeling by the media (especially in North America) because of the high-price and gaudy promotional campaign for the third-generation PlayStation console. It’s still not uncommon for a lot of journalists and gamers alike to rant on Sony, claiming that their console is “dying” or “failing”..."

"Spring is nearly here, and with it comes new life for some of this generation's biggest, most action-packed games, exclusively on XboxLIVE!. With more than thirty-five million in combined sales, the Halo and Gears of War franchises have set the bar for multiplayer games on Xbox360. Now players of Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 will see the multiplayer experiences made even bigger by new Game Add-ons."

No price has been announced, but the last add-on for the game, December's three-map Combustible Map Pack, cost 800 Microsoft points, or $9.99 in real-world currency.

"It is unfortunate that in the real world, there are certain types of people who just look like sex offenders. Whether they are or not. Peter Jackson, for example, wouldn't look out of place with his trousers round his ankles, running through a nursery and being sick all over himself. Same goes for Geoffrey out of Rainbow. There are certain people that, should it come to light that they've been arrested for some hideous sexual misdemeanor, we wouldn't be surprised. This is why it's so easy for..."

"Videogames and violence go together like peanut butter and jelly. As any stoned out college boy can tell you, they complement each other perfectly and are twice as difficult to completely separate.

Efforts to remove any form of violence from video games have been met with scrutiny, scorn and downright failure. It cost Florida penal irritant Jack Thompson his career, his credibility and his ability to appear on television within five seconds of a bloody, national tragedy so he can blame it ..."

During a recent panel at a comic con, Gears 2's writer revealed Epic has a 10 year plan in the works and when questioned about single player DLC, told fans to 'Keep watching' and that we 'Won't be dissapointed' also the new Gears of War movie will be the first in a trilogy, we all already know the Gears games have been revealed to be a trilogy as well.

This week Yahtzee does the review that we've all been waiting for, Gears of War 2, click the source to finally see his opinion and his usual satire about this game.

Major Nelson has posted the Live Activity for this week, summing up what is being played online in the gaming world for Xbox 360. I am amazed that despite the release of World at War, this does not hinder the CoD4 community from taking down everything that isn't Halo 3. Real football (FIFA) manages to beat out American football (Madden), and surprisingly, people are still playing Grand Theft Auto.

"1UP: So the part where Dom finally finds his wife, Maria, and then blows her away -- what the hell was that all about? A few square meals, a haircut, maybe some cosmetic dentistry, and she would've been well on the way to recovery!

CB: It's not that simple. The Locust were capturing and torturing people to the point where they break. The final step in this grueling process was to lobotomize their prisoners, and it's a one-way trip. Dom did the only humane thing he could do. There was nothi..."

"Speaking exclusively to GameDaily BIZ, Gears of War 2 global product manager Guy Welch announced that the title sold over 4 million copies in its first two months on the market. This is double the pace of the original Gears of War, which sold 2 million during that period.

"The problem comes when you go back and look at your list of achievements and see that there are some that are worth 30, 50, 100 or 150 points. Those are the ones you want. You probably also make the assumption if you don’t look at the list that some tasks would be worth a lot. For example, you would think, that completing 50 horde waves would be worth 100 points or at least 50. It’s not easy to do, and you need to have four or five players that work together and stick through all the waves. ..."

"Fanboys have been plaguing the Internet for quite some time with their silly propaganda, heinous slander, & a laggard intellect that leaves the rest of us sane humans flabbergasted at the fact that these are the type of people we not only have to deal with on forums or blogs, but also in person typically at retailers where I purchase my games from. I just don't understand the logic behind being a fanboy, I mean the way I see it it's a lose lose situation. These companies do not compensate you..."

"For a classic multiplayer game, Perfect Dark suffers from a fairly major fault. It’s nigh-on unplayable. Those sleek offices and twisting tunnels have morphed into poorly textured geometric mazes. The explosions and effects, brilliant in memory, are muted. Most of all, the always-suspect framerate is now a convicted murderer. None of these reasons justify a return."

"Let’s not forget about the console wars! There are sale charts, there are fanboys slamming other fanboys’ data, there are all sorts of ways to “decide” the winner of the console wars… One of them is, of course, checking the exclusive games and that’s exactly what we’re planning to do now. So, the battle is on: PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii – which console has the best exclusives?"

Patrick Klepek of multiplayerblog.mtv.com blogs about his unfortunate tale. He packed himself ready these Christmas holidays, he was ready to spend two weeks destroying his wrists, but he ended up doing absolutely no gaming at all! With this he poses the question, is he the only one?

"It’s the eleventh day of Christmas today, and that means it’s time for the eleventh instalment in The Twelve Games of Christmas. A feature series running every day on the twelve days of Christmas here at Electronic Theatre, The Twelve Games of Christmas aims to highlight the top performers of 2008 month-by-month, and help you decide what you should be picking-up in those January sales!"

I don't own either game in the franchise, but from I've heard Gears of War and its sequel both had large amounts of problems with their online modes, and Saul Berenbaum has had enough. He recounts his own experiences with laggers, glitchers and just down right cheaters and wants it to stop. As he quite welly sums up "For the love of God, men, you should be in control here, not 12-year-olds and quarter-assed wannabe hackers"

With Christmas just past how could we have missed this video? Details are unknown about the video but...poor Santa. If you're a GoW fan or know about the game I'm sure you already have an idea on what's going to happen. Ho ho ho, hope you had a good Holiday Season!

video after the jump.

""Could video games actually be helping struggling students learn? According to researchers at the National Science Institute and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, they are.

These video games are not your typical blockbuster game like Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gears of War 2, though. They’re educational video games, designed with the specific intent of teaching the player a fact or concept.""

"Well, the year 2008 is finally at an end and though there were disappointments, many games lived up to the hype. The decision to make a Top 5 Games list instead of a Top 10 list was rooted in the fact that there were so many great games that it was tough for the staff to develop a consensus past the first five. Plus, the longer the list, the more you start to get all political with it and say crap like, "Boy, we need another game from x console in there." So here they are, our top five games ..."

"So here's the thing, Wii Fit has mass-market appeal, and Wii Sports comes packed in with the Wii, so it's understandable for them to outsell AAA titles from the other consoles. Wii Play, however, isn't even a GOOD GAME. No one will tell you that it is. Yet the fact that it comes with a Wiimote for only $10 more has encouraged nearly 20 MILLION PEOPLE to drop down their precious cash for the thing. More people own this game than Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Gears of War COMBINED.

I think..."

"After 12 months of playing and enjoying as many games as possible, it’s time to take a break, look back and choose the best of the best - the best 10 games of the year 2008. As you can imagine, it’s a really tough mission, especially because the overall quality of the games released this year was pretty high (there were exceptions, of course), but we must choose the game of the year here, at the Unigamesity!"

"It's hard finding a trailer that sticks with you and keeps itself glued to the walls of your memories. Trailers that manage to do such a feat are easily worthy of some kind of media recognition. So in the good spirit of acknowledging awesomeness where awesomeness deserves recognition, Blend Games has proudly put together a list of the Top 10 Coolest Game Trailers of 2008. So without wasting a whole lot of words on a pointless lead-in to the list, you can check out our top ten picks for the co..."

2008 had tons of crazy moments in the world of gaming, and EuroGamer has decided to run through the events that happened from July all the way to December. They include the E3 conferences, the new 160 GB PS3, and Wii Music.

"When you see long-standing publishers take a hit and respond by laying people off, canceling projects and delaying triple-A games, you know something is very wrong. And even though 2009 has a nice line-up of hardcore games that are easily classifiable as big-budget, they could be the last for a long time to come."

OXCGN writer looks at the future of graphic between the top two heavy-hitters, the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

The former coming into its stride in 2009 will no doubt push Xbox 360 to doing more tweaks in that area, but he asks the question, will it really matter ? Isn't "gameplay" the thing "gamers" look for ?!

Makes for some interesting reading and discussion. So slip on over and check it out.

"There was a time when I started my 360, jumped online, and messaged a friend to get out of Gears and pop in Halo. He would be greeted by the other people in our party ready to bullshit and kick ass while doing so. With the uprising of the Xbox Live Party Chat, those friends are leaving me with the choice of talking with them or trying to enjoy my game.

Initially I think that chatting with people who aren't playing the same game as me would be quite asinine, and it is, but I still found mys..."

Yes, it happens to be true, in the highly anticipated showdown between Soulja boy and MTV's Stephen Totilo the winner is..

Soulja boy?!

Afterwards, Soulja Boy offered Stephen a rematch, which he promptly accepted without hesitation.

"We look at the top 12 games from several platforms in order to determine which are the Top 12 Overall Games for 2008, and you might just be surprised at the ‘overall’ winner for 2008 - coming from an Xbox site. OXCGN (aka XboxOZ360-gamer) has always maintained that the staff are “gamers” - not fanbois. Most have more than 2 consoles and platforms to play games on and simply enjoy ‘gaming’ period.

So what better way to round off the year than to take a look at what we believe to be the top ..."

"More than 1.5 million people were drawn to Gears of War 2 on XboxLIVE! during its first weekend, logging over 15 million gameplay hours and driving a new record for concurrent users. A nice quick and to the point write up from Primotech that includes all the winners from the show on top of some random news blips (such as Pearl Jam's full album Ten coming to Rock Band, Brutal Legend confirmed for 2009, GTAIV DLC trailer, Gears 2 maps coming, Fight Night Round 4 coming 2009). See quote for full list of winners, go to source to see some more news from the event.

OXCGN writer looks at the current situation with Xbox 360 sales and the declining current sales of the PS3. Focusing on the need for all 3 major platforms if we are to see the market move ahead.

What does this mean? how will it affect sales this Christmas?, will there be continual slip in PS3 sales?

Slip over to the site and check out the article, not a XBox fanboi PS3 bashing, jy=ust an honest look at the current situation.

"Here's Dude Huge's advice:

• Use your smoke grenades to incapacitate him and then rush in with a chainsaw finish.
• The one two punch of melee plus shotgun is always a good thing.
• When in doubt, bring up “Braid” and how trippy it was. He’s likely to start spouting and become distracted.

On to Bungie, whose analysis of Soulja Boy's tactics and tendencies is spot on and filled to the brim with win.

In a one-on -one scenario with Soulja Boy, you’re dealing with a guy..."

The NPD Group has released their hardware and software numbers for the month of November, representing sales for the United States for the four week period of November 1st to November 29th.

  • Call of Duty: World at War the top combined SKU seller in November
  • Only version of Guitar Hero: World Tour to chart is Wii version

"With Christmas just around the corner (a fortnight is the measurement for around the corner. A month being down the road) and with the many Australian families given a government bonus to inject straight back into the veins of our dying economy, those ridiculously unaffordable consoles little Billy has been pestering you for may not be so far out of your reach any more. The question however is what makes the right Christmas present?

OXCGN isn’t just about breathing life into the Xbox any m..."

OXCGN takes a look at 8 pet-peeves in gaming that really, in modern times, should have seen their day. However, they still persist and keep re-appearing in game after game.

If we can innovate games like Mirror's Edge, then why can't we do away with some of the frustrating ideas that persist in gaming. So please slip over to the site and check all 8 out, you probably have more, so please share them.

FPS players play FPS games for a reason, they like to get stuck in hard and fast! This is why tutorials have always been a bit of an annoyance. The gamers would much prefer to just leap into the thick of it and learn as they go.

This is because spending ages learning all the controls is boring and can lose a lot of gamers fast. If the tutorial isn't really engaging, players will just let the game go as they want to immerse themselves in that world as soon as they can. Ghost Recon Advanced ...

Sub-Zero of unrealitymag.com has created a top list for... real estate? Yes that's right, they've made a top list concerning the ten places you'd not want to consider living in.

With a steady theme of violence being a major deterrent, Silent Hill took out first place. This was followed by Raccoon City of Resident Evil and Megaton of Fallout 3.

"Ever since the Gears of War 2 teaser trailer was shown at E3 earlier this year, I had been patiently awaiting its release so that I could continue the fantastic game and story that was Gears of War. Add to that all of the hype that surrounded Gears of War 2 during the summer months and my expectations were set quite high."

Take this as you will. Our lead Games Channel Editor sounds off on the final boss of Gears of War 2. I must admit, 2 days after the release of GoW2, I finally got around to beating the original and was utterly disappointed with Raam. I am only in Chapter 3 of Gears 2 now, and was really looking forward to the fight with the new general that was supposed to "make Raam look like a pushover". I wish I had not read this story from my editor. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Also, if you disagree please resp...

Australia gets to see its software sales for 16th of November! What topped the all consoles category? Surprisingly it's the game that's had a lot of criticism, Wii Music! Call of Duty: World at War then took second and third place on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.

Wii Music also topped the Wii section. This was followed by the popular Guitar Hero: World Tour and then the ever well selling Wii Fit.

"After finishing GOW2 last night I realized that as a whole, it’s essentially the same as the last game. The environments all feel like Gears, the weapons all function the same, and the characters all interact in the same way. That being said, I am fine with all of it. I wouldn't want EPIC to change anything, really. What I enjoyed about the first game was held over to the second; it’s a lot of fun to play in single player, and the fun factor ramps up exponentially from there when you add ext..."

Images surfaced today of a round of Gears of War 2 being played on a somewhat different map than what came with the disc. The level seems to feature a large amount of imulsion which appears to be running through a ruined city. The only information now is for Photos, but contacts are being checked with both Epic and Microsoft. Is it possible this could be some DLC for Gears of War 2 already? Maybe. We'll have to wait and see.

Software Sales for the week ending on November 9th for Australia are in! The winner, Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360! This was followed by Smackdown Vs Raw 2009 for Playstation 2 in second and Wii Play for the Nintendo Wii in third.

Nintendo DS top sellers were obviously for the more intellectual customer. Number one was Sight Training followed by Brain Training and More...

"Gears of War is back. There’s new blood, old blood, bad blood, and true to form, lots and lots of blood blood. Fans of the original will be glad to know that not a lot has changed; ultimately this delivers a top-notch sequel experience, delivering more of what made the first game great in precisely the areas you want."

"I don't think the chart needs to be explained, you have the games, you have how much space they would take on your hard drive, and then how much time you'd be saving (not listed on the chart is how much relief you will be giving your poor disc drive). No longer do 360 fanboys have the fodder of "oh you PS3 people have to install games blah blah" .. in the end, if you have a big enough hard drive, you know you'll be installing these games soon enough."

One fan is super happy Epic Games have included BOTS in the latest iteration of Gears Of War 2.

It seems the sentiment is shared by almost all Gears Of War 2 players, so slip over to the site and read an interesting article about the issue and how it does help those gamers who suffer terrible lag with Gears 2 (i.e. anyone outside North America).

"Always wanting to bring the news first and trying to stay true to our name of being a Community News and Resource Site first and a Microsoft site second, we are never shy on bringing you news that can at sometimes appear controversial. This is no exception. News just in from various retails has come to hand, and we believe we would share it with you - first.

As the battle for the gamers hard earned cash rages between the industry giants, it seems that Microsoft has gone for the jugular, ho..."

"Just as Tom Cruise became weird and embarrassing, Cliffy B. has managed to emulate Tom’s annoying and obtuse approach to product promotion. Plain and simple, these antics aren’t going to help sell Gears of War 2. The game was already poised to break records, and it’s already been promoted enough. What Cliff is doing will only prove to be overkill for an already over-hyped game."

"Sales, LLC announced today that it has finalized work on its 1:1 scale Gears of War Locust Drone design maquette. The piece was sculpted by Chris Perna, art director, Epic Games, and painted by highly respected special effects and creature creator Jordu Schell. The bust stands 19 inches high, weighs approximately 15 pounds, and will be available to ship..."

With the first batch of disappointment coming in the form of no GoW2 for the PC Canadian gamers also have another disappointment on their hands.

It looks like someone at Epic Games totally forgot that not all Canadians speak French and that the primary language is English, because the hardcover art book that comes with the Collectors Edition is entirely in French.

Going by forum posts it seems that this is a turn off for some gamers and are turned away from the CE to go for the standard...

OXCGN writer Sith Lord Jim writes up his review on the most anticipated 360 game this year. SLip over to the site, read away and let us know your thoughts.

I have mixed feelings about the game myself, as do some others. It seems like "something"? is missing somewhere . . but you be the judge and let us know how you're finding the game. Plus don't forget to enter the Gears Of War Comp on site, over $500 worth of prizes are up for grabs.

"We've already shown you the bonus maps -- only available to people who purchase a new copy of Gears of War 2 -- now we're continuing with the rest of the maps. In this first of two videos we examine the multiplayer maps included on the retail disc for Gears of War 2. Watch as we run through the maps Avalanche, Blood Drive, Day One, Hail and Jacinto showcasing some of the weapons found throughout the map as well as the various environmental effects you'll encounter when the game launches tomor..."

With Gears of War 2 releasing and their Flashback Map Pack being included with the purchase of a brand new game, the question arises of how well they will play. Well, screenshots were shown of the levels, six months aged from the original Gears of War, and man, are they beautiful. After the jump it shows gameplay of the newly designed levels and how they play against a group of people, and quite frankly, they look to be as good as ever.

Gears of War 2, the most anticipated Xbox 360 game in a year hits the Aussie shelves in less that 14 hours. NZ gets it first, followed by Australia who will be playing it online and at home around 14-20 hours before their Uk and US cousins . Some of the advantages of being near the International Date line hehehe.

Anyhow, slip over, check out the details and join in on the fun, Plus there's a chance to win one of 3 copies of the CE and some gear.

"A beta does kill the initial thrill of release day, sure. If you've already played the game in a beta - for free, no less - you might not have the same enthusiasm for the final retail product as someone who hasn't played it at all. Well, you might. Depends on how good the actual game is and how much content there is in addition to the beta material."

A great competition if you want to win yourself a Collectors Edituon of Gears of War 2, and some apparel exists over at OXCGN. A simply treasure hunt style of comp, which just gets you t dig around the sites pages dealing with Gears or Gears 2 and find the various pics of COG's and find the answers to the questions.

Try heading over there now and giving it a go . . got nothing to lose . . but something to gain, and learn a few things about Gears in the process.

"Ever since we were all blown away by Gears of War in 2006, we’ve been chomping at the bit to discover what happens next to Marcus Fenix and the rest of the Delta Squad crew. The small teaser at the tail end of the original game guaranteed that there was more Locust-smashing action headed our way, and this November 7th (exactly two years after the original release) we’ll all be treated with the next installment from Epic Games. We’ve played it, and the truth is Gears of War 2 manages to one-up..."

"Once again Epic shows its complete incompetence with narrative, and it only becomes such a problem in spite of trying to better themselves. Surely a far better developer of multiplayer experiences, the hand of design is revealed too often, squandering transparency. But it’s the succinctly focused essentials that will again become the stuff of memory, and we’ll hear the grunts and cries of this ripped brethren for a long time time to come in the rich halls of the online space."

Gears 2 is almost upon us, and so are several other great games, but one has to asks ones self, is Gears 2's MP up to the current line-up of intense fire-fighting Multiplayers that are coming out at the same time. COD 4 pulled it from top of the pile and kept it off, could Left 4 Dead do the same with it's full-on frantic co-operative MP aspects? And COD 5 is just around the corner . . .

A very special week! This is about the third week in a row we've had a killer line-up, so be prepared to make your light wallet even lighter, me thinks.

First there's Quantum of Solace (which received a "passable" IGN review), then NHL '09 for hockey fans, Resistance 2 (in a special collector's edition, too, if you fancy that sort of thing), Valkyria Chronicles (which, conversely, IGN quite liked), and Gears of War 2. Meanwhile DS owners get a couple of very special treats (just after Hall...

"Gears of War 2 The Soundtrack features a new original music score composed by Hollywood composer Steve Jablonsky (“Transformers”, “The Island”, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) and recorded with the Skywalker Symphonic Orchestra and Chorus at the world famous Skywalker Sound."

Whether accidental or not, retail store chain K-Mart are getting heavy punishment for leaking copies of Fable 2 early. Not only are Microsoft demanding a $10 000 fine (small change really) the stores are now banned from selling Gears of War 2 for the first two weeks of its release, which will surely hurt them and greatly benefit there competitors.

On Metacritic, one of the Playstation 3's big titles LittleBigPlanet has an unusually low user-score of 6.4/10, compared to the positive 95% the game has recieved from professional reviewers. According to various game sites, it appears as though Xbox 360 fanboys are on the attack, giving the game ridiculously low user-scores and negative comments.

To retaliate, Playstation 3 fanboys have targetted Gear of War 2, with over 1319 users giving the game an overall score of 2.5/10 (and it's stil...

The games and DVDs were for resale on the black market.

"It's no secret that I am somewhat fanatical about the Gears of War 1 multiplayer. I firmly believe there is no better multiplayer currently on offer. I am finally willing to admit here what I have been denying for so long; I was really quite worried about the multiplayer of Gears 2.

I couldn't help but worry that Epic would screw the proverbial pooch with this iteration. With a lot of trepidation I picked up the controller, but when the controller was eventually wrenched out of my grasp ne..."

"Nearly everyone I know is waiting impatiently for Gears of War 2 while I sit here with my mouth clamped shut. You see, not only have I played the game, I’ve beaten it. And I only have a handful of other people that I can talk to about it. Just last week, Microsoft invited about 30 journalists to tear through a near-final build of Gears 2 with over a month remaining before the game’s release. While I can’t even begin to give you my overall impressions (due to embargos and NDAs), I am allowed t..."

Created by Epic, we can see that the developers are living up to their name with the latest in the Gears of War series - Gears of War 2. With five new screenshot releases, it's hard not to be blown away by the epic size of the bosses.

A rumor about Gears of War 2 has come out, that people who buy the game will get a special code that will let them unlock five multiplayer maps, called Gridlock, Subway, Canals, Mansion, and Tyro Station. Also, new screenshots for the game have come out. I've not attached any because none of the images are being recognized as pictures. Go to the source to see them all.

It was announced about a month ago Gears 2 would not be coming to the PC, but Epic's Cliff Bleszinski never really let on why, per se. In a new interview with TVG, he says it is for many reasons, two of which include the multiple configuration problem, and piracy.

He also says there is no chance of it ever coming to the platform. PC gamers/non-360 owners: looks like you'll have to stick to the original.

At the end of each DLC week, Videogamer gives their opinion on which system delivered the best content. This week, the PS3 got a NBA Live 09 demo, to go long with Rock Band songs.

Xbox Live got Destroy All Humans!, a Gears of War 2 trailer, and bikes added to Burnout Paradise. Last and least, the Wii only got three things: All VC games, with Sonic the Hedgehog leading the way.

Electronic Theatre delivers the latest developer documentary on Gears of War 2 - released today - entitled "Every Gun Has a Story" direct and on page for viewing.

We all know Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 are shaping up to be big titles that are both set to release in early November.

Here are 5 new Gears of War 2 screenshots. They look like they have a lot of grey and red, not bad graphics. It was recently revealed that Gears of War 2 is 85/90% finished, and will release on November 7th 2008. See the screenshots below.

"Gears of War 2 is "85/90%" complete, series mastermind and PR pet Cliff Bleszinski has revealed.

The 360-exclusive sequel joins other first-party efforts Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise, which is almost in the shops, and Fable II, which is (apparently) finished and 'gold'.

Speaking to Xbox World 360, Cliffy said, "We're basically at the 85/90% polish stage right now, doing some last minute optimisations.

"I boot the game up every morning and go through campaign mode, making sure it..."

"[Epic's Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski]: You can unlock these characters in Gears 2 if you earn the Achievements in Gears 1 through Xbox 360 or PC, provided you are using the same Gamertag.

Does this mean you are planning a Windows version of "Gears of War 2"?

Cliff: Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we're focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2. We've decided we're not going to do a PC version this time around."

IGN has revealed the Achievements list for GoW 2, which also includes some "Link Achievements" for doing certain things in the first GoW game. I'll give you the three "Link Achievements", but you're gunna have to hit the source for the rest:

Developer Cliff Bleszinski recently announced the downloadable content for the up and coming Gears of War 2 will be "multiplayer map focused." Lucky for all the eager Gears of War fans you won't have to wait months for DLC: it'll be available shortly after the game's initial release, sometime between November 16th and the month after, at this point. Don't expect a long wait to try out some additional new maps.

There's still no word on whether this time around the DLC will be free.

Last night at the X08 event in Toronto Joystiq was able to sit Cliff Bleszinski down and discuss the upcoming Gears of War 2, for the Xbox 360. Cliff discussed the co-op play and a little about achievements and how they'll be more friendly with them this time around. Look out for Seriously 2.0; 100,000 kills across cumulative single player and multiplayer campaign mode. It looks like you'll be playing through campaign more than three times.

You can also download the interview in mp3 format...

"Yes, you did read the title right and we're just as amazed/shocked/confused about it as well.

If you’re willing to spend the equivalent of $130 for a special edition of a game, then you’re clearly off your rocker to put it blunt. But being able to own your own lancer? That is quite a tempting offer.

It is clearly a lot better then the previous crap offered by special editions bundles such as the Bioshock miniature Big Daddy which was one of the worst quality figurines I’ve ever seen or ..."

A lot of people were disappointed with E3 this year, but there were tons of great games and with great games, you get some very good trailers. GamesRadar shows the best trailers of E3, as well as the worst. Some of the trailers include a Gears of War 2 trailer and a Mirror's Edge trailer.

So admittedly, E3 2008 was a disappointment for all this year, but that isn't to say that there weren't some great games on show. Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 all made an appearance, but was it enough for them to claim the title of Best of E3 ?

Marcus Fenix revs up once more in this high octane sequel. Watch and be amazed as Cliff Belinski (the head designer behind Gears and Gears of War 2 at Epic game studio's) play's through a short level of the highly-anticipated sequel to Gears of War and enjoy a short video of game-play footage from the story mode and a highly anticipated new game-play mode announced at E3.

"Q: How is Gears of War 2 going?

Mark Rein: We had some folks in recently for the multiplayer play test and it was so much fun. I think the new game types are really good, really fun. Gears was always pretty popular online and it's still - almost two years later - in the top ten on Xbox Live and I think that Gears 2 is an improvement on that on a lot of things.

Q: Do you think Gears of War 2 will push console sales, considering that the biggest launch this year - Grand Theft Auto IV - d..."

Footage from Gears of War 2, the highly anticipated Xbox 360 exclusive from Epic games, has been leaked. The footage shows what appears to be an entire team deathmatch on one of the new maps. Take a look whilst you can. This is bound to get pulled before long!

"Video-gamers are in for some interesting news. Len Wiseman, director of the Underworld movies, is going to direct the highly anticipated Gears of War movie. While some of you might be cringing right now (and I wouldn’t blame you), hear me out.

In recent years, a lot of video game movies have quite frankly sucked. (Doom and Bloodrayne, anyone?) Whether the reason was bad adaptation, unfaithful storyline, poor graphics, or general lack of interest…something came up short. A lot of these movi..."

Most would agree that the Xbox360 has the best online system on the market today with their Xbox Live service. However, with the continuing improvement of rival online systems on both PC's and the Playstation 3, is the annual fee of Xbox Live Gold Membership truly worth it, and what does it offer that the PSN and Steam don't? Read on to find out.

Yep, it's been confirmed. Live Free or Die Hard (aka Die Hard 4) director Len Wiseman is set to direct the Gears of War movie we mentioned previously. Chris Morgon has been attached for the screenplay as well, who has written Cellular, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and Wanted. Wiseman was also in charge of the Underworld movies. No timeline or release date is set for the film, which is actually kind of good to hear, as you'll see.

"New and Modified Weapons
Scorcher Flamethrower -- This sucker will appear only once on a multiplayer map. It benefits from a longer range if you can hit the active reload perfectly and will glow red when it's ready to bring death to the masses.
Gorgon Burst Pistol -- Faster rate of fire than other pistols and shoots in short bursts.
Poison Grenade -- Spews a nasty purple haze that brings down everyone in its path.
Shield -- This sucker can be chucked into the ground beneath you and used a..."

Updated maps, achievements, preview of Gears of War 2 and trailers are just some of the things that will be included in a new 2-disc re-release of Gears of War for the US market. The original having sold incredibly well, this gives a chance for those that have yet to play the game.

It is currently set to be released on 24th June 2008 for both the PC and XBOX360. No news on the European version as of yet, but it's likely to come eventually.

"We're usually pretty skeptical about rumored release dates as developers and publishers often keep that card close to their chests -- however, we can't help but put our complete faith in a man with a name as awesome as Lester "Mighty Rasta" Speight. Yes, Mr. Rasta, who voiced Gears of War's "Cole Train", recently made an appearance at the TriForce panel at Wizard World to shoot the breeze about the company's line of GoW-related replicas. When asked about the sequel's release date, the TriForc..."

A rumor has surfaced that says GoW Redux will be coming next month according to Gamestop's placement. On Gamestop's site, the game is titled "Gears of War with Maps". Also revealed was the price ($39.99) and the pre-order shipment date, which is 6/24/2008.

Its been only a week since Epic Games released the first Gears of War 2 gameplay footage and the game is under the spotlight already. The website azfamily.com are questioning the level of gore and detail in the game. They bring to attention the chainsaw attacks where the player chainsaws a person in half, and "meat shield" which the player uses a corpse to protect themselves from enemy fire.

Microsoft to release possibly the noisiest, most graphically impressive batch of games — but 'Halo Wars' is nowhere to be found.

Six publishers showcased more than 40 new titles for Microsofts Xbox 360 in San Fransisco and Los Angeles, Gears of War 2 being in the presentation, as well as Fable 2.

However, Halo Wars, a real-time strategy game said to have been released late 2008 had not been confirmed, which means Gears 2 will be the biggest Xbox 360 game this year.

You might be a little disappointed to hear that the four player co-op is sill undecided (there will be a co-op mode, just don't know about the four players) but here is some news about GoW 2 that might cheer you up. There will be bigger and better gameplay: new characters, more weapons, nastier enemies, bigger vehicles, and some very gory chainsaw duels. Also, because of the advancements in Unreal Engine 3, the visuals of GoW 2 will look awesome, expect a lot of blood and gore especially with...

Wired got a brief interview with Cliff Bleszinski (Epic Games) at Microsoft's media event.
The interview talks about what will be new for Gears of War 2, Locust, and many more; The big one for all you guys who want a dope girlfriend who will play a violent game with you, is how they'll be making Gears 2 better for your girlfriend.

"Things Learned From Gears of War 2 Gameplay Trailer
The Locust now have the ability to sink entire cities with giant emergence holes.
To defend against the Locust onslaught, the COG transport vehicles called Derricks bring tunnel machines called Grind Lifts to Locust occupied areas. Underground combat ensues.

Campaign level act one, chapter three is named "Assault".
Reavers are back for GoW2 and they are trouble.

Epic Games today released one screenshot for the upcoming Gears of War 2. Gears of War 2 is currently scheduled for release in November 2008 and will use a heavily upgraded version of the Unreal Engine 3.

We have seen so many games with the addition of bikes to them. Grand Theft Auto, Mario Kart, Burnout Paradise...the list goes on. So Games Radar has decided to fool around with Photoshop and see what some games will look like with the addition of bikes like Gears of War 2, Heavenly Sword, Zelda and LocoRoco. So check out these sweet images and go to the source for a few more.

"Jonesing for your first taste of Gears of War 2 gameplay footage? Fortunately you don't have too long to wait.

Gametrailers TV just secured themselves the first in-game footage from the game. The bad news? It won't be airing until May 9 at 1 a.m. The good news? The footage, which features Marcus Fenix, includes a special introduction by bunny-loving Epic game designer Cliff Bleszinski."

Steve Wysowski, from Xbox Focus says that he loves Gears of War greatly, but he then rambles on about how he thinks Gears of War 2 will suck when it allegedly releases in November of this year. To basically sum up some of his points, he thinks that Epic has horrible vocabulary, simply calling the game, 'badass'. Then he says that they're also really slow to produce games and how it took them 3 years to make Unreal Tournament 3. Finally, he says that the original game had amazing graphics and ...

"Epic Games has confirmed to Shacknews that it is not planning to release a demo of the cover-heavy action title Gears of War 2 (X360) demo in advance of the title's November launch.

"[There are] no plans for a demo," associate producer Tanya Jessen told Shacknews. "The reason being that it's been such a fast turnaround. A two year production cycle, for a game of this caliber, is really short."

The lack of a demo continues the tradition Epic set forth with the original Gears of War, whic..."

Mark Rein of Epic Games, has told Eurogamer today that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III could include a special Easter Egg related product of Gears of War 2 to get gamers drooling just that little bit more. He did not state much on what it would be but he did mention that you might have to keep a close eye on the Unreal Tournament 3 disc.

"DC Comics and Epic Games today announced that they will be publishing a comic series based around Gears of War. The first comic based on the hit Xbox 360 franchise is set to release in October on DC's WildStorm publishing imprint. Details about the comic's story and creative team will be released later.

"We are thrilled to be working with DC Comics to further bring to life the Gears of War universe. A lot of our developers are huge comic fans, and have loved the personas and chronicles uni..."

"For a while, Xbox 360 gamers have been waiting to fight a Brumak without having to buy the PC version of Gears of War. Voice-actor John DiMaggio, who voices Marcus Fenix in Gears of War, has revealed that Xbox 360 owners will finally get a chance to fight a Brumak in Gears of War 2. But that may not mean much at all, because the Brumak won’t longer be the biggest Locust in Sera.

CliffyB told Game Informer that Gears 2 “will have creatures that make the Brumak look like a baby panda bear.""

Well folks, if you remember yesterday, I posted an article about Gears of War 2 appearing New York's Comic-Con. Well, after videogaming247 contacted Epic about the appearence, Mark Rein denied that Gears of War 2 will be showing up at the event. He says, "I'm not aware that's we're showing anything there." It seems as if though the event was just a giant mess.

"In an interview, due to be published tomorrow here, he said, “The next Gears of War game will have improved physics features and new lighting and rendering features. Work on the engine will continue through the whole engine cycle. There will be major new features we'll be adding two years from now that games just haven't done yet.""

Ah... Comic-Con, the place where you can get Spidey's autograph, shake hands with Wolverine, it's hard to imagine anything better than that. But what's this? Gears of War 2 at Comic-Con? Yes folks, you heard me right, Gears of War 2. Gears of War 2 will be appearing to give attendees a special glimpse of the game with the epic chainsaw battles on Sunday, April 20th.

"In the first Gears of War, getting chainsawed was an unpreventable means of death once your enemy was in range with their Lancer revved. For the many of you who saw the recent Gears of War 2 Teaser, the first thought that probably sprang to mind when the battle of chainsaws between Marcus Fenix and the Locust enemy occurred was, “So we’ll be able to do this in the game?”.

Yes, yes you will.
