"Games based on movies rarely do well with either fans or critics. The movie license seems to make game development extremely difficult for many reasons and recent games based on popular movie characters that weren’t tied to a movie (the Batman: Arkham franchise for example) have set a new precedent for games based on popular characters from other media. Why do games turn out better when they aren’t tied to a movie and what can the industry learn from past successes?"

"Video games have multiplayer, anymore that’s almost a given. Multiplayer gives people the chance to go out and pit themselves against other people from around the world or it allows for a collaborative effort to achieve victory. But there are some games that either miss the mark, or totaly skip the online process altogether."

"Hello all,

Straight from Egon's lab, after months of Beta testing I bring to you the first ever fully fictional Wii-Proton Pack to be used in conjunction with the Nintentdo Wii version of the Ghostbusters Video game. The cyclotron features four blue LEDs allowing you to know which player is selected or active and the Blue Power Cell actually shows you how much power the pack has. The Thrower has been carefully designed in regards to ergonomics and function. The front of the wand has an ar..."

"With every passing year players all over the world are subjected to games both good and bad. To be brutally honest, people love a loser far more than a winner because we get some amount of twisted enjoyment out of seething our hatred upon something we know is a piece of complete and utter crap. So for the year 2009, I offer up to you the top 20 video games that made me scream in anger, roll my eyes with annoyance, and curse at the sky with dismay. I have a feeling that at least one of these r..."

"Released in 1984, Ghostbusters was an instant hit garnering critical and public praise for its fun blend of comedy, horror & fantastic special effects. After a sequel was released in 1989, the Ghostbusters franchise was put to rest, with the exception of two cartoon series, which hit TV airwaves in the mid to late 90's. Now 25 years after the original Ghostbusters was released, a true sequel to the second film has finally been produced in the form of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Starring a ..."

"With the launch of the newly redesigned PlayStation 3 throughout Europe today, Electronic Theatre has taken the time to find out how both high street and independent retailers across the UK have been responding to the new hardware proposition. With the Xbox 360 having received a price-drop prior to the weekend and many retailers still carrying stock of the PLAYSTATION 3 unit, it comes as little surprise to find that the high street stands as a very competitive arena currently."

"London MCM Expo is set to provide the grand opening for this year’s London Games Festival, the capital’s celebration of the best in videogame culture. "Overall children of the 80s should fear not as the game does a very nice job with the Ghostbusters legacy. Since this year marks the 25th anniversary of the original release of Ghostbusters this is a definite buy if you’re a Ghostbusters fan."

"DS, 360, Wii and PC editions arrive this October

Namco Bandai Partners has announced that Ghostbusters will arrive in Europe on October 26th for Xbox 360, DS, PC and Wii.

The titles were originally scheduled for release in June, before Sony secured publishing rights for the PlayStation games – forcing the other SKUs to get pushed back.

Ghostbusters was released on all formats in the US in June to coincide with the Blu-Ray release of the movies."

"Since its release roughly a month ago — timed to the 25th anniversary of 1984’s monumentally popular movie, Ghostbusters — the video game has already achieved "blockbuster" status with an estimated 1 million units sold. Terminal Reality’s video game was the product of years of planning and execution, thousands of hours of work, a final budget of $15 million-$20 million, and a huge gamble that a video game could successfully revive the off-kilter humor and the paranormal magic and mayhem of th..."

"By this time, you’ve learned the basics in busting ghosts and have captured a few. In today’s PS3 walkthrough for Ghostbusters: The Video Game, we focus on beating your first semi-important boss: the Fisherman Ghost. However, if you’re not careful, you’ll be sleeping with the fishes tonight."

"Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a gorgeous game. It just looks great. The CGI Ghostbusters strike a nice balance of realistic- and caricature-looking, with facial expressions that are subtly impressive. Especially when the lines are delivered by a cast that sounds like they're actually having fun doing this. The story will make you appreciate the original movie all over again when you realize that little references in it have been fleshed out. A lot of love was put into every part of this game."

"No matter how you look at it, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is hard. One of the many complaints all over the internet is Ghostbusters‘ severe difficulty spikes, which could push you to pull your hair or hurl your controller in frustration. Fret not, we list down the top four difficulty spikes in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and we’ll show you how to get through each."

"Considered a sequel to the movies, the Ghostbusters game for the Nintendo Wii has some very pleasant surprises and few, albeit crippling, disappointments. The game takes place about 2 years after the second movie, and you play the newest member of the team under the title “Experimental Equipment Technician”."

Mike Got Game! has released the second chapter of its Ghostbusters: The Video Game walkthrough. In this installment, find out how to catch Slimer and conquer the other ghosts in Sedgewick Hotel. It's your first assignment as experimental weapons technician, so make it good.

"This mid-year update allows Plastic Wax to reveal 2009 collaborations that had been kept under wraps for months: the opening cinematic and unlockable cinematic for Activision’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen game, two different thirty-second television spots that mix live action and CG (which involved animating the classic Slimer character) for Atari’s Ghostbusters, and the E3 2009 CG trailer to launch the new Relic/THQ title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Plastic Wax also has a number ..."

"1995, I huddle close to the TV as the Ecto-1 screeches out of the Ghostbuster’s HQ and tears down the Manhattan streets with the goddamn iconic theme song playing on and on as my tiny four year old brain laps it all up while my stressed mother shouts at me to “TURN THE *bleep*ING VOLUME DOWN!” But I don’t listen because the silly woman doesn’t understand what the movie I am watching means to me. Simply put, I was a Ghostbusters fan the moment the song hit my TV screen. I watched it dozens, if..."

"The story line places you in the Ghostbusters firehouse as a new recruit. You have the task of being the guinea pig, testing new proton-pack technologies as you patrol New York City for ghosts. The story-line follows seems to take place right after the second Ghostbusters movie ends, incorporating characters and ghosts from both movies in the game."

Ghostbusters: The Video Game was released a few days ago, but does it live up to the Ghosbusters name or is it just another movie-game dud? ...

PlayStation LifeStyle reviews the highly anticipated video game adaptation of Ghostbusters for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and other consoles. Though the gameplay is fun, certain issues end up holding it back.

Not too much to note this week, though a couple of gems stand out: Suda 51's (No More Heroes, Killer 7) Flower, Sun and Rain on DS, and Let's Tap, an innovative game set from Yuji Naka's (Sonic) Prope studio.

The latter game utilizes a control scheme whereby the Wii controller is placed on a flat surface in order to detect small vibrations; tapping the surface, then, serves as your input.

Take a look at the highly anticipated Ghostbusters game before its release in stores. Tonight at 12:01 Eastern, AnalogHype will have a live stream showing off the new Ghostbuster game and will be taking your questions live!

"Atari, one of the world’s most recognized video game publishers, today confirmed the worldwide launch plans for the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: The Video Game."

"Moments ago, however, Sony issued a Press Release to clarify the matter. Ghostbusters: The Video Game will arrive in Europe on PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation2 on 19th June, 2009, with a PlayStation Portable version scheduled to follow in the autumn. All three of these releases will be published by Sony, as opposed to ATARI, the most recently attached publisher. The game will still make it’s way to Xbox 360 and Wii, however, although at an unspecified date later this year and remaining the resp..."

Word has just been handed down that Sony are now helping Atari publish the upcoming multiplatform game Ghostbusters. While initially it isn't that interesting, but then consider that Sony would be more than happy to nab themselves such a game as exclusive, either timed or permanent. Of course nothing could change, and the game continue on course. But we'll see won't we?

Update: It is confirmed to be a timed Sony exclusive

Resumeplay.net brings you a compilation of upcoming games that you should definitely have a look at.

"Atari's being very clear about this with the game's box art.
The Wii, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS versions get the caricature version seen on the left, while the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC versions get the more photo realistic version on the right. The aesthetic even applies to the game's cover specters, with slightly less menacing ghosts featured on the lower-definition, E-10+ rated version."

A few months ago Sigourney Weaver admitted that she would gladly reprise her role in the new Ghostbusters game if it were high quality. Unfortunately, it looks like Weaver was too late in her assessment. She recently asked if she could be a part of the game's cast after discovering that the other actors were involved, but was turned down as another leading lady had been written into the story instead.

Looks like there will be no Gatekeeper or Keymaster.

"It's hard to believe it has taken almost 25 years for someone to make a good Ghostbusters game. Thankfully, Atari came to the rescue and picked up this stranded title for us to finally enjoy.

I came away really impressed with Ghostbusters: The Video Game, even in this short 20 minute demo. It plays sorta similar to Gears of War – it even includes its own "rodie run." When you add solid, fun gameplay with terrific writing and voice acting, it usually means good things will happen."

New screenshots have been released for the new Ghostbusters game, to be released this June. The screenshots compare the cartoony style of the Wii's version to the realistic style of the 360 / PS3 / PC's versions.

A new trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters game has been released. This trailer looks at another rule from the Ghostbusters films: Don't look into the trap, except the trailer goes against that rule.

"TWGN - There are several different species of mushrooms that Pax runs into. Nearly all of them have their own set of classes - Sage, Scout, and Heavy. If you could choose to be one, which would you be? Were there any other species you were considering to appear in the game?

Red Fly - I would have to go with a Heavy. When push comes to shove, you need the size. We actually had over 80 characters designed for the game, but when in production and scope is a factor, we had to narrow what ..."

Many gamers are wary of the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game. And who wouldn't be? Movie-to-game adaptations don't have the greatest track record. But even if the game ends up being awful, at least it'll have awesome music and voice-acting. Ah, the memories ...

In a recent interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz. Actress Sigourney Weaver revealed that she has been asked to apear in an Aliens video game, but turned it down because it was not true to the character of Ripley.

It also appears as though she will not be reprising her role in the upcoming Ghostbusters game, despite most of the original actors returning as voice-actors for the game.

"You can thank Atari as we finally get some clarity on the ambiguous release date for the highly antipated Ghostbusters title that many feared was lost when the title was dumped during the Activision/Blizzard merger."

Are we going to hit a video game burst similar to the one during the Atari days before Nintendo saved the day!? A little discussion on the news about Brandon Crisp. James not only is allergic to coconut, but doesn't eat beef either, sad times. Allison doesn't know if she wants Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

Challenge James in a video game quiz where you can pick the category, and we'll give you a prize. Enjoy this weeks The Bender (or else!)

"Ghostbusters; The Video Game, based on the smash hit motion picture franchise, also reunites original cast members to recapture the unique blend of humour and fright that established Ghostbusters as a pop culture sensation.

“Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to ATARI’s global line-up in 2009,” said Phil Harrison, President of Infogrames Entertainment, the parent company of ATARI..."

GameInformer, the popular magazine about all things gaming that has somewhere near three million subscribers, always has a different game on the cover each time. MTV wanted to see if there was a GI cover curse, so they looked back into the past and pulled out magazines from 2-3 years ago.

One game titled Superman Returns didn't so well, receiving 6/10's. That's nothing compared to Fear and Respect, which was at one point on a GI cover, but ended up being canceled!

All in all, the game...

According to Kotaku, Gamestop has retracted all Ghostbuster games from pre-order, but don't worry, if you pre-ordered one or more games, you will receive a full refund.

At this point, everyone is so confused. We have no idea who is publishing the game - Vivendi or Terminal Reality.

Activision announced that they will continue publishing Vivendi franchises such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Ice Age, Prototype, and another unannounced IP, for their "long term strategy". The problem is that they're NOT going to publish other Vivendi games:

Ghostbusters: The video game
Brutal Legend
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
World in Conflict: Soviet Assault
50 Cent: Blood on the Sand

These games are NOT cancelled but they are without a publisher which ...

IGN managed to get a demo of the PS2 and Wii versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. The story of the game is basically the same, you're new to the Ghostbusters team and it is two years after Ghostbusters 2 (1991). After that, there aren't a lot of similarities between the 360/PS3 versions. The PS2/Wii versions have a more cartoonish feel, the game has a lot more color and is very bright. In the Wii version of the game, the WiiMote will let you shoot using the blaster options and will also...

If you've been keeping up to date with Ghostbusters news, then you would know that every actor from the original movie will be reprising their roles for the upcoming game. Yes, everyone, from star Bill Murray to "that dickless guy".
There is only one actor who won't be returning for the game...
Rick Moranis, who played the "Key Master", won't be coming back as he retired from acting back in the 90s.
Despite being asked to come back for the game, he declined.

Brendan Gross, who is the development director at Terminal Reality, said they intend to include action from Gears of War and the funny factor from the Ghostbuster films into the video game. He also noted that they are trying to have something funny or scary every 15 feet! Gross went on to say that he wants to show everyone that a movie game can be a success, as well as other things.

"With this year's gaming harvest already played and beaten and filed away into memory like so many saves, it is time now to look on.

Past the bulbous shores of 2007, far off in the distant recesses of release schedules, lies the gone-golden bounty of untapped potential. And while many may slip their surly bonds and give flight to the year 2009, more still will cement their crusted plastic into delighted hands. Here we mark the prophecy of the PC legacy, a concrete, yet tumultuous hour of re..."
