James Cameron's Avatar: The Game

"Out-of-body experiences are usually only thought about in relation to spirituality. Researchers with the Brain Mind Institute at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland see it differently. By using a virtual-reality setup with cameras linked to a head-mounted video display they effectively managed to give subjects an out-of-body experience."

"This week we discuss MLB.tv coming to PS3, Metroid Other M delay, Natal test kit out in the wild and Marvel vs Capcom 3 announcement. For what we have been playing its Lost Planet 2, Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2."

"The process for developing movie-themed games “can’t be studio-driven,” Landau told Wired.com. “It has to be filmmaker-driven. I think [game companies] need to go find the Jim Camerons, Steven Spielbergs and Peter Jacksons of the world and develop the relationships with them.”

During the keynote, Landau detailed the ways that his filmmaking team helped Ubisoft make the stereoscopic 3-D Avatar videogame — and blamed 20th Century Fox for several missteps that may have hurt the game.

All Age Gaming's Ian Crane and Sussan Nunez attended a Microsoft event where Robbie Bach, Microsoft’s President of Entertainment & Devices Division spoke about Microsoft's Surface and Project Natal. Ian and Sussan give a full low down on the event and some technical discussion on the two technologies.

"Since the beginning of cinematography, creators have constantly attempted to break the perceived fourth-wall in order to bring their audience into the universe they have set out to create. Derived from stereoscopic photography, 3D film, television and computer graphics essentially show the viewer two separate perspectives of the same image in order to create the illusion that the object in fact inhabits the same real-space as the viewer. James Cameron’s Avatar has received much acclaim for ut..."

"After having reportedly shipped two million units to retail worldwide, Mass Effect 2 has taken the top spot in the UK, knocking Ubisoft’s Just Dance down to second place, according to GfK Chart-Track data. The chart applies for the week ending January 30th, which means BioWare’s latest managed to become the biggest selling game of last week with just it’s first days of sales."

"I was ready to like Avatar: The Game, the official video game of the movie like I've liked no other movie-game before. I said so when I reviewed the movie last month. And then, well...

I feel I owe readers of that review an update. How was virtual Pandora, you might wonder? Hey, I've been to that planet. You've only ogled it through 3D glasses."

"Despite the box office records of James Cameron's recent CG-heavy film Avatar, Ubisoft Montreal's corresponding video game failed to make much of an impact as either a critical or commercial success -- not placing in the all-formats Top 20 for December 2009.

So what happened? According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in a recent company conference call, the game was materially harmed by the film releasing so late in the year."

"Today, Ubisoft has announced a revision of its 2009-10 targets and revealed a number of new titles currently expected to arrive in the 2010-11 fiscal year. Among the revealed titles is a new Assassin’s Creed, Driver and the fourth Raving Rabbids title."

"Gameloft has announced that it has reached ten million paid downloads since the launch of the App Store in July 2008. Holiday sales were driven by the huge success of N.O.V.A.- Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance and James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game. Both games placed in the top grossing applications chart across all key markets such as United States, Japan, Canada, Austrailia, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland and Spain."

Not everyone see everything the same way. Personally I found the game a great deal of fun, it was engaging, especially when I chose the Na'vi as my character when the time came to do so.

I like taking a game on it's own merits, rather than comparing it. Does it entertain me, keep me engaged and draw me in, this did . . but then, not everyone agrees, come see why . . Vids, screens and great review with scores for PC and 360 . . .

"One of the points of attraction for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game has been touted as the pivotal decision a player must make, effectively deciding the fate of Pandora. After an hour or so of an introduction and combat tutorial, the player is faced with a dilemma – take out another Avatar working as a traitor against the RDA, or aid him by taking out the task force sent to kill him, disobeying an order from your direct superior. Your choice will greatly affect your journey through the game,..."

"Like the film itself, Avatar boasts some impressive tech that takes a fair amount of investment to see in its full glory. On the film side, the movie company is footing most of the bill. Unfortunately, Ubisoft is not about to deliver a 120hz capable HD television set with each game. If you already have a television capable of utilizing the 3D capabilities of Ubisoft's adaptation of James Cameron's Avatar, the game is a no-brainer. For the vast majority of the world that does not, this is not ..."

All Age Gaming's Ian Crane previews the new game from Ubisoft, James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. Ian focuses on whether Avatar could possibly be the new Halo.

"By now all the confusion should be cleared up – James Cameron’s Avatar is not related to the animated TV show. The movie based on the cartoon will be named The Last Airbender and comes out in 2010. You will not see a bald little kid throwing fire around when the Avatar movie is released on December 18.

Instead, James Cameron’s Avatar follows the invasion of humans onto the lush, tropical jungle planet of Pandora to mine a valuable resource. The only problem is, the planet’s 9 foot tall, bl..."

"Black Friday has come and gone, so game makers have already pushed the majority of their Fall releases onto store shelves for the holiday rush. But there are still a few titles for the first week of December that could be considered major new releases."

"This new video offers the first official footage of the game’s multiplayer mode released by Ubisoft. Introduced by Patrick Naud, Executive Producer of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game, the footage reveals a number of the specialities of each the RDA Corporation and Na’vi teams."

"As part of Ubisoft’s Christmas line-up, Avatar: The Game is perhaps the most understated title on the agenda. Next to the likes of Assassin’s Creed II and the latest Rabbids release, it could be fairly easy to assume that a movie tie-in would be the least progressive videogame title of the bunch. But such an assumption could well leave you without one of the most interesting prospects of the year."

Eurogamer recently held their public gaming expo which featured quite a few high profile games that many have been looking forward to. Video reviewer Diifii went to the event and got some hands on time with some high profile games along with chatting with some devs from games like Aliens vs. Predator.

"Today being "Avatar Day" (what, didn't your calendar tell you?), we figured it's the perfect time to fill you in on what we've seen of the gaming side of James Cameron's much-talked-about mega-project, James Cameron's Avatar. The Game, as it's subtitled, is split into two distinct products on consoles. (Additionally, there will be portable versions for DS and PSP.) The games aren't typical movie-license rehashes and tell their own stories, separate in plot from the movie, in turn contributing..."

"Digital connection, 3D glasses and special HDTV set needed to experience new visuals

Ubisoft has added another technical requirement for those wanting to experience the upcoming James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game in its full 3D glory – an HDMI-enabled console.

That’s not a problem for PS3, of course, and Wii owners aren’t getting the 3D treatment anyway.

But it does mean that owners of Xbox 360 owners manufactured before the HDMI port became standard may miss out, according to MTV Mu..."
