Killer Instinct

Killer Instinct

"Your mom hates these commercials, too, but they definitely get her talking. Like EA and its recent trash-talking-moms commercial for Dead Space 2, game developers have a solid history of controversial advertisements, featuring scantily-clad women, booze, filthy language and loads of irony."

The game that brought combos and werewolves into living rooms around the nation has yet to see a new title since the 90s. With Rare remaking and releasing old titles, it's due time this fighter saw a rebirth.

"With the recent rise in popularity of HD-ports of old Rare titles such as Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie, many gamers have been wondering which title deserves an HD upgrade/port and given the commercial success of each Rare title, it’s hard to choose. From first-person shooters, platformers, and fighting games, not only does the company have a plethora of choices to pick from, but a strong case could be made for almost any of them. In no particular order, here are the top five contenders for ..."

"Video game characters, though they might swear and be the master of unlocking locks, are usually not badass, mainly because they’re so stiff and run-of-the-mill. But then, there are exceptions, such as this list below, which is a compilation of characters so badass that they can even make YOU feel badass while playing as them, that’s how cool they are. Sadly, though, I’m pretty sure none of them have wallets that say “bad mother*bleep*er” on them. Oh, well, I never said that they were Samuel ..."

Looks like that in-game secret wasn't entirely crap after all -- Rare studio manager Mark Betteridge has stated a new Killer Instinct is being considered, but they're not sure how they'd bring it up to date now that fighting games have evolved as much as they have. Great to hear they're not willing to do it half-assed....

Cranky Gamers UK has uncovered a juicy little nugget in the new Banjo Kazooie game, which apparenrtly reveals new takes on Killer Instinct, Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini and Ghoulies are coming to the 360 at some point. I'd definitely be down for some new KI, and Jet Force Gemini could be great too. Ghoulies I'm not familiar with, and I'm not sure how well Battletoads would translate these days, unless it was released like Mega Man 9 was..

In a sense it'd be great to see Rare get back to t...

Before CAPCOM Vs. SNK, there were games like Fatal Fury that rocked the fighting genre. RacketBoy goes through a list of what is, in their opinion, the best fighting games on the SNES.

Gotta love the sprites.

Good descriptions in the link.

"Videogame characters are lazy, forgetful, or just plain stupid. Cutscene after cutscene, they exhibit planet-shaking combat abilities and a level of indestructibility which would make God himself jealous. But as soon as you pick up the controller? The Incredible Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner and all of those showboating tricks and superhuman powers disappear into the ether.

They're constantly saving their best tricks until we've already done all the hard work for them, and even if not,..."
