Looking back at your collection of games can lead to many discoveries, like which ones you bought used. Default Prime author Kyree Leary has made one such discovery. And even though he bought these games used, they led to many new game purchases. He thinks it evens out.

Some of Valve's most popular games are now available for purchase and download via Gamestop's Impulse PC digital download service. This is very rare as Valve has never allowed any of their titles to be published by other digital retailers. These titles include Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, The Orange Box, and Half-Life Complete. Despite these titles being available on Impulse, users will still need to register the games through Valve's Steam service in order to play them. With Impulse...

Gamestop has a decent deal sale right now 30% off used ps3/360 shooters. Games on sale include Halo Reach, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Homefront, Gears of War 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Socom 4, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 and plenty of other great games. Best of all most of these games are between $3-$20.

Goozernation takes a look at Dead Island and asks, who says zombie games are stale? Gamers aren't tired of zombie games yet. Dead Island pumps new life into this over used cliche. Dead Island's combination of interesting story, RPG elements, fast paced action and co-op play make Dead Island a contender for GOTY.

"A brilliant and successful new IP can affect an entire generation of games and game players; I consider these to be the best new franchises of this current generation (2005-present)."

Xbox 360 has done a really great job with cooperative game plays in many of the most popular games like Halo, Left 4 Dead, Gears of war and many others. Microsoft xbox 360 has worked hard to bring more and more co-op games to the xbox 360. Here is a brake down of the top 10 co op games.

This week, The Married Gamers chat with Raptr's VP of Marketing, John Lee about the Raptr website and its new features. They also discuss the future of Raptr, as well as some interesting gaming stats John discovered using the data Raptr tracked.

"Pat takes sick leave and Andy hosts as he, David, and Nick journey through the halls of video game history. We discuss the oldies like Mass Effect 2, Pokemon Black, Minecraft, Left 4 Dead, Medal of Honor, Shattered Horizon, the Nintendo 3DS, and a real relic: the 15 year old Sega SuperGT.

We take a look at what games your tax dollars are funding in gaming news. Trivia continues, and we wrap up with a few movies in casual discussion."

Everybody loves the zombie shooter genre. I say genre because there have been so many titles in the past few years that it can be considered its own genre. Check out the article as we discuss the best of the best.

Over the past few years, we've started to see a new wave of innovation in the multiplayer landscape. Check out the full story to see the five most innovative modes to come to this generation of consoles.

"But in 10 years from now, will we look back at this period of gaming and chuckle? Will zombies seem as positively antiquated and absurd as anthropomorphic animals? Trends ebb and flow, and the likely answer is yes. Yes, zombies will seem as positively antiquated and absurd. They are a product of this era’s interest in dark violence and grim visuals, just as Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel was a product of the 90s interest in bright colors and cartoon characters."

Valve has just updated new information regarding the next DLC for their hit series, Left 4 Dead. Left 4 Dead 2 will not be receiving any normal campaign, instead this will be the first community made campaign to be officially released by valve on BOTH PC and Xbox 360. If that weren't enough they are also going to port the remaining maps from L4D1 over to L4D2.

Cold Stream is being developed by Mathew Lourdelet, the same man who made another community campaign, "2 Evil Eyes" for L4D2.

You heard it right! An upcoming LFD2 DLC will include the final three maps from LFD! All your classic zombie-assaulting gameplay, packaged in that fresh, fresh LFD2 spitter smell.

There's more than that though - click through for details!

"He's big, dumb, and full of love, and even comes with button-activated grunting, belching, barfy sound effects straight from the game. I don't know how they managed to make disgusting, slimy stomach protrusions look so huggable, but they did."

"The fortunes of the zombie have waxed and waned over the years, but the living dead have never been as popular as they are now. Films (Zombieland, Resident Evil, Diary of the Dead), TV shows (The Walking Dead), Books (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and, increasingly, video games. It’s not just zombie apocalypse-based games like Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead, but games completely unrelated that are jumping on the bandwagon: Call of Duty entries World at War and Black Ops both feature zombie mo..."

"Developers all over town are SLASHING prices this Halloween - you could say that these games are SO CHEAP IT'S SCARY. (Please don't hurt me...) What I'm trying to say here is that Halloween's an excellent time for the cheap or thrifty to grab something new!"

Raptr analyzes one of the most interesting exchanges of gaming achievements between Capcom's Dead Rising series and Valve's Left 4 Dead. Both games require gamers to kill well over 53,000 zombies to earn a coveted achievement that only 2-4% have gotten. However after checking all the numbers on Raptr, another gaming franchise has entered into the mass zombie-killing achievement discussion as well.

Recent fascination with fan-made games have led TK-Nation's Cassandra Khaw to the discovery of this adorable retro de-make of Left 4 Dead. While old news for some, it doesn't stop the de-make from being awesome nonetheless.

This guide will help you unlock all five of the new achievements that came along with The Sacrifice DLC campaign for Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC and Xbox 360.

"Valve today announced that their latest DLC, 'The Sacrifice' is due out on October 5th. The downloadable content will be released for Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 at the same time. The sacrifice is a prequel to the previous 'The Passing' which was released earlier this year."

"Valve has announced new additions for the co-op and competitive survival-horror Left 4 Dead series (yes, both of them!). The Sacrifice, currently in development for both L4D and L4D2, can be expected for release on October 5, 2010.

"With the recent release of the Game Room service for the Xbox 360 and PC, I’ve been thinking about gaming as a whole; thinking about the classics, and the re-release thereof, tends to meander in that direction, at least for me. Some aspects of classic gaming have gone away, while some have been preserved to this very day. One such aspect of classic gaming that had previously disappeared, but has come back into fashion in the last few years, is the high score. With Gamerscore being awarded for..."

"This week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is DLC for the co-op zombie survival shooter, Left 4 Dead. Crash Course is on sale this week for 360 MS Points ($4.50). This is a 36 percent discount over the normal 560 MS Point ($7) price."

"We’ve only got about five more months before Valve announces Left 4 Dead 3 (and only about ten before they release it).** While Left 4 Dead 2 is wonderful in a million and one ways that more than tickle my fancy, I still have some suggestions that could essentially make for that hallowed “perfect game” all the kids are begging for.

Perfect game maker machine GOOOOOOO!!!"

Fortunately, we plan to address that with a new series of articles that catalog and rate female body parts in a cynical bid to keep the virgins and date rapists interested. Just posted up online, modders have once again upped the ante, showing recent footage of a Left 4 Dead mod created for Left 4 Dead 2. Finally, you can zombie rampage in the original L4D city streets WITH the baseball bat!

"The last decade was an absolutely amazing one, at least where videogames were concerned. The new technologies of the past two console generations have enabled the medium to soar to incredible new heights, introducing entirely new types of experiences and – perhaps more notably – delivering the sexy better than ever before. The decade from 2000 to 2009 brought us increasingly realistic (or at least convincingly idealized) heroines and heroes that not only looked hot when rendered in 3D, but al..."

Celebrating the 360's fourth anniversary IGN takes a look at the top 25 games on the console including some new and old releases over the years. The list is comprised of a wide variety of genres and features XBLA games for those looking for something on a budget. 360 owners can see what they've missed out on and put on their list for the holiday season.

"Like comic books and movies, videogames tend to present an exaggerated representation of men and women. Dudes are typically muscle-bound meatheads with powerful jaw lines and a thorough understanding of all forms of combat, while women generally have back-breaking chests and dress like strippers regardless of their profession.

Lara Croft, for example, is a world-famous icon that carries an entire franchise. She’s smart, tough and more capable than the men she’s pitted against, yet still go..."

Ladies of Wednesday is here to get you over your hump day blues. This weeks feature includes the ideal women to star in Valves next installment of Left 4 Dead. These beautiful women will try there best to evade the zombie invasion of Miami,Florida.

"Considering the controversy over Left 4 Dead 2’s impending release and the outcry that it should be DLC for Left 4 Dead 1, I can’t help but feel like Crash Course is Valve saying “This is what we can do with DLC. You can expect more than this with Left 4 Dead 2.”"

"This swing towards Versus play evident in the construction of the map and the additional Achievements is apparent in other minor areas of refinement. The Infected's on-screen furniture now displays team-mates health and recharge time for special attacks, along with their current type – allowing the recently eliminated to occasional guess the type they themselves will next respawn as and plan a strategy based upon the Survivors movements and actions."

The second DLC pack for Left 4 Dead was given an official release date by Valve, September 29th. It will be free of charge for PC gamers and anyone hoping to pick it up on Xbox 360 will be charged, albeit a smaller fee than normal, 560 points. Celebrate my birthday and the release of the new content(9/29) by downloading and playing online with me.

A new Left 4 Dead mod infects Teletubbies which will surely give you nightmares. The groaning of Teletubbies is more frightening than ever in addition to the limb blowing and blood splashing.

Hit the source for a video of it in action.

It's kind of like a Mr. Bean movie; he has good intentions but always seems to still get the raw end or trip over himself or be tripped over by someone else, in this case Microsoft. They have every right to charge for DLC on the marketplace, but we all know the majority don't care about anything other than complaining, so prepare for more hatred against Valve (and more hatred against the hatred against Valve) because the upcoming DLC (Crash Course) for the 360 version will cost 560 MS points ...

Left 4 Dead has been marked down yet again, this time to $30.00. The game includes the Survival Pack, as well as Authoring Tools in the Game of the Year Edition. The Left 4 Dead - Four Pack was marked down to $89.00.

With Valve's newly announced L4D DLC, you'd think it would come with relief. Well, at least for PC users. 360 owners are torn down the middle on whether to invest in the new DLC, or wait until the quick follow-up Left 4 Dead 2 comes out. Many are not expecting this DLC to be compatible with L4D2, so gamers must make a choice.

"Edge, Future’s international videogames magazine and website, has announced the shortlist for its Edge Award For Interactive Innovation, which is set for presentation during the Edinburgh Interactive Festival next week. The list recognises the games commercially released in the last twelve months that have, in the judge’s opinions, done most to mark out new directions for videogaming."

"T.S. Eliot once wrote, "This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper." While that may be interesting enough for your freshman Introduction to Poetry class, it hardly works as a video game premise, which would explain why Activision hasn't yet secured the rights to Call of Poetry: Modernism Warfare. On the other hand, video games need intense settings and outrageous set pieces, and there's nothing more intense or outrageous than the end of the world. For this week's top ten, w..."

Molotov Cupcake of Spawn Kill gives a brief glimpse at the new DLC coming to Valve's smash zombie hit Left 4 Dead. Controversial because of the upcoming sequel that many think is being released entirely too soon, this new content gives fans and players of the original title some hope.

Anyone that plays games knows that receiving demos via Xbox live or PSN is never a bad thing. Consumers play the game then go out and buy it right?, but what if playing that demo that someone was excited about changed their feeling about the game in a negative way. At this point was the demo a good idea to even release knowing they just lost a sale? Here are a few reasons why demo's can either help or hurt game releases.

"Major Nelson has posted the LIVE Activity list for the week of July 6th, and it is very surprising. As you can see from the title, Battlefield 1943 has accomplished something only once done before with Castle Crashers.

Despite initially having server issues, EA overcame that hurdle right away and it seems to have pleased gamers. Battlefield 1943 has cracked the top numbers for disc based games, taking out Rock Band 2 from the list completely. I am not sure how long this will last, but with..."

"I don't think the top five games will be changing anytime soon. If anything, we can only hope that when Modern Warfare 2 releases, it will unite those who split from World at War and CoD4, so we can at least see some other games make their way onto the list.

However, I foresee a similar split between Halo 3 and Halo ODST users when that drops, probably taking the 3 and 4 spot, but that is quite a while away. I love seeing the strong support of Left 4 Dead despite the turmoil that game cr..."

"It was also stated that the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles last month was not intended to signify the end of Valve’s support for the first title, which is suggested to be set to continue after the release of the second game this November."

Left 4 Dead 2 has become pretty famous in the gaming world for begin a "quick" sequel, but does it really make sense to petition against it? We argue that L4D2 will be worth it's price and even more.

An ambitious developer known as Outatime has spent the past months trying to recreate the Resident Evil 3 campaign in Valve's Left 4 Dead. He's just announced on his site that the beta version is up for download for anybody willing to do so. However, there are some issues with the framerate. He has no idea when he'll release the full campaign yet.

Check out the development site to learn more about the project.

"The PC and the 360 are just more straightforward. We can focus on what we want to do, which is make game experiences, instead of sweating bullets over obscure architectural decisions they make with their platform. [...] I didn’t come into this business in the 90s because of some technical fetish. I came in because I wanted to give people experiences that made them have fun."

Dr. John B. Williston, an avid gamer, compared Left 4 Dead to Killing Floor, a zombie-themed underdog that has gotten a lot of bad press. According to him, Killing Floor is the superior zombie mash, which leads him to believe "game reviewers are the zombies, marching to the tune of the Valve virus."

"This being a Sunday, today’s weekly feature will be a light-hearted addition, in the form of the widely popular Top Ten list. This week’s edition will focus on those after pub treats, online endeavours and social extravaganzas; the Top Ten Multi-Player Games."

Major Nelson has posted up the Live Activity for the week of May 11th, and with that comes some regulars, along with some .. weirdness... such as the fact that the UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo has made it's way on the top ten for the fourth week in a row! I played it, I don't get it, how is this on the list.. *shrugs shoulders*. Though being out a year and a half, as well as having a sequel, Call of Duty 4 continues to carry a high rank on the list :D

"Aside from a selection of bug fixes, the Survival Pack is mainly that which has been largely discussed – a brand new gameplay mode. While Valve could’ve unquestionably charged for the pleasure of such an addition, it’s more limited nature could well have been considered unfulfilling by many regardless of the cost attached, and possibly spoilt the company’s generous reputation. As paid content, Survival Mode is reasonable. As free additional content, it’s an absolutely fantastic bonus."

"I lay no claim to bravery; quite the opposite in fact. I’m more than likely to have a yellow belly and a boneless back. I hide when it’s stormy, and jump when someone says boo while I’m playing Dead Space with the speakers turned up.

I will say this though; I love me a good zombie.

Whether I’m watching the latest Romero flick, reading poorly written stories of the undead online or kicking back with a shotgun and laying waste to a few choice Hunters in Left 4 Dead, I love a good stumblin..."

OXCGN held it's second official XboxLIVE Playdate on Friday night, which went 2 hours over time due to a huge demand on the team for gamers wanting a chance to kill zombies and work as a team - yes, work as a team, now that is a funny concept.

Slip over to the site and get 4 gamers impressions of the night. Sound like heaps of fun, mayhem and destruction .. .

"Hello. My name is Jeremy Bennett, and I'm an artist at Valve. Most gamers only ever get to see the finished product of a game cover, so we thought some of you might find it interesting to hear the process that led to Left 4 Dead's final art. As you'll see, there were quite a few attempts along the way, all of them eventually abandoned."

"Well another month down and higher on the scale OXCGN goes. And with events like this, who can blame players for wanting to join in. MS Xbox-Div Australia has just launched its revamped Community Pages here in Australia and with it, the introduction of the excellent Community Playdates.

"Video games allow us to enter worlds and scenarios in which we couldn’t possibly take part in in the real world. You may battle aliens on a distant planet. Or you may fight the Reich in a WWII shooter. The possibilities are endless, because what can be done in the realm of imagination is endless. So why do we continue to return to the same enemies that we’ve killed thousands of times before? The straightforward answer? Because they’re safe."

"Of course there's always the option of going through the campaigns in Single Player mode, but like mentioned above, that soon becomes as dubious a pleasure as singing the Swedish national anthem while trying to chew through a soda can. Give it a try sometime, just for kicks."

"I dont quite know where to begin when telling others about a game idea. I suppose one would normally start with the story, but much like Left 4 Dead, my game idea doesnt have a story. It would more or less be a series of small multiplayer games, exactly like Left 4 Dead, where the story could be filled in by the players. Unlike Left 4 Dead however, each story would not take place over 5 mini levels, but one spanning level."

The gang here loves us some "Top Lists", but over the past few months they have gotten out of hand - how could we continue making top lists? After hours of grueling brainstorming with Street Fighter 4, Chris Plante, our wetnosed associate editor delivered brilliance: "What about the best hands in shooters!" We laughed, and approached it as a joke, but the more we thought it about it... [snip] no, seriously, think about it...

"From the day when video games developed the graphic capabilities to simulate cleavage, women in games have been designed mostly from the blueprints of a horny 13-year-old boy's fantasy. If a female character wasn't in need of rescue - yes, we're talking about you, Donkey Kong - she seemed designed specifically to reinforce negative body images.

But there have been a handful of female video game characters that Brandi Chastain would be proud of, with more seeming to appear in recent years...."

"There are endless discussions on gaming forums, op-ed articles posted on blogs and websites, and a general discourse about how to properly review a game. "A few details on the Survival Pack DLC for Valve's multiplayer zombie shooter Left 4 Dead have squeaked out following its cryptic announcement last week.

A new Survival mode will see "up to four player set records for the longest time surviving hordes of zombies on over 12 maps," according to word from GameTrailers TV."

"The rain is coming down harder than a drunken guy hanging from a greased up light pole, but our luck isn't all bad; there are guns, a massive pile of ammo, and health packs lying conveniently on a table in front of us. One would think that the odds of someone leaving all their crap on their roof would be fairly low, but I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth. It’s actually quite rare for me to examine the dental hygiene of any farm animal, but that’s beside the point."

"Valve announced plans to update its co-op zombie shooter Left 4 Dead (PC, X360) today, revealing that a "Survival Pack" will be released this spring.

The DLC will include a new multiplayer mode titled Survival, as well as two complete campaigns for the game's existing Versus Mode. No details regarding availability or pricing were announced, but Valve traditionally updates its PC releases for free."

It would seem that retail store HMV has been taking pre-orders for a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead which they seem to think is being developed by EA and will be released on June 5th, Valve however has laughed this off.

As the season of romance gets closer and closer, people are finding different ways to express their love or recognition for their own special someone. beavotron from the Penny Arcade forums decided to produce his own gamer themed Valentines - and no, unlike VGCats' Scott Ramsoomair, the variety of games is not limited to Nintendo! "The gaming community has a morbid fascination with death, and something is always dying. Apparently E3 is dead, PC gaming is dead, and some say the survival horror genre is dying. Most gamers readily admit that Resident Evil 4 is a great game, but no one is trying to defend it as a survival horror title. Indeed, the Resident Evil franchise has changed over the years, and we're a long way from where Capcom started."

Major Nelson has posted the Live Activity for this week, summing up what is being played online in the gaming world for Xbox 360. I am amazed that despite the release of World at War, this does not hinder the CoD4 community from taking down everything that isn't Halo 3. Real football (FIFA) manages to beat out American football (Madden), and surprisingly, people are still playing Grand Theft Auto.

"There are a couple hundred registered users here, so I figured that I'd give you guys a chance to respond via the comments section and name your top 5 games from last year. Sure, I'm a little late to that party, but by now you've all had time to sit back and contemplate your picks. You don't have to give reasons behind your top 5 (although you can), just list them like this!"

Neoseeker/GameGrep's own 'Custodial Engineer' Redemption explains in this blog that PC gaming is by no means dying, but retail outlets sure aren't helping it to be what it could.

NPD revealed retail sales (which seem to generally be above digital) are down this holiday season, but is it any wonder when we often can't find even the big hits on shelves anymore, or on the store websites?

"Show notes:

This week we have been playing:
Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360), Katamari Damacy (PS2), Myst (PC), Super C (NES), Guitar Hero Aerosmith (Xbox 360), World of Goo (WiiWare), Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360), Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360), Empire Total War (PC), Fallout 3 (PS3), Quake Live (PC)

"Kojima agrees, adding an even more pessimistic note to matters. "The US and European marketplace are far better balanced. There are games everyone can play -- maybe calling them 'kids' games' would be inappropriate -- but there's also a deep base of core titles made with movie-industry people that explore the depths of hi-def. I'm addicted to Left 4 Dead right now, but people say to me that that game would never work in Japan.

"Maybe I should quit being Japanese," Kojima continued with a ..."

GamingShogun.com gets a demonstration of NovInt's Falcon game controller with pistol grip add-on during a session of Valve's Left 4 Dead.

"You know, its not that I don't like people. People are cool. I really do enjoy getting to know people in general. But for the most part, I don't want to participate in headset banter. In some circles, one might label me a jerk.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm not a complete tool. If I'm playing something that involves heavy strategy or tight verbal coordination, I'm throwing on the headset, no question. Call of Duty or Left 4 Dead would be a generally disastrous experience without voice cha..."

"In years past, NeoGAF has done their favorite moments in gaming, using only MS Paint to show you. Looking back at 2008 brings us some of the coolest moments, great memories that can look amusing to just plain epic, even when in Paint. I purposely left out the names of the games as half the fun is guessing (but if you can’t figure it out, right click and hit properties to see the file name where I put the game)."

"Many peoples selection for “Game of the Year”, Valve’s Left 4 Dead, received a free Title Update on the Xbox360 last night. After an intensive playtest, the Electronic Theatre team were left clueless as to exactly what the Title Update had done. We assumed the download had fixed some minor client-side issues..."

Patrick Klepek of multiplayerblog.mtv.com blogs about his unfortunate tale. He packed himself ready these Christmas holidays, he was ready to spend two weeks destroying his wrists, but he ended up doing absolutely no gaming at all! With this he poses the question, is he the only one?

Everyone needs a little Boomer Thong in their life, and Darksider1972 of FPSBANANA decided to give that gift to the world. If you feel Left 4 Dead has been missing a little something, a little..zombie arse in accentuating underwear, perhaps, your days of longing are over.

"It’s the eleventh day of Christmas today, and that means it’s time for the eleventh instalment in The Twelve Games of Christmas. A feature series running every day on the twelve days of Christmas here at Electronic Theatre, The Twelve Games of Christmas aims to highlight the top performers of 2008 month-by-month, and help you decide what you should be picking-up in those January sales!"

"Well, the year 2008 is finally at an end and though there were disappointments, many games lived up to the hype. The decision to make a Top 5 Games list instead of a Top 10 list was rooted in the fact that there were so many great games that it was tough for the staff to develop a consensus past the first five. Plus, the longer the list, the more you start to get all political with it and say crap like, "Boy, we need another game from x console in there." So here they are, our top five games ..."

"After 12 months of playing and enjoying as many games as possible, it’s time to take a break, look back and choose the best of the best - the best 10 games of the year 2008. As you can imagine, it’s a really tough mission, especially because the overall quality of the games released this year was pretty high (there were exceptions, of course), but we must choose the game of the year here, at the Unigamesity!"

Ever wonder what the zombie thriller Left 4 Dead would have looked like 20 years ago? Well in a competition to make something in Java under 4 kilobytes, Markus Persson re-created Left 4 Dead.

"We're just fiending for Santa crap around this time of year so why don't more game companies take advantage of our sentimentality with special DLC? Here's five pieces of downloadable content we'd love to see next December"

Ryan Rigney of SlapStic.com explores what it's like to play Left 4 Dead using a rather irregular control method. Hint: it doesn't work out so good, but at least it's possible to run!

"There was a time when I started my 360, jumped online, and messaged a friend to get out of Gears and pop in Halo. He would be greeted by the other people in our party ready to bullshit and kick ass while doing so. With the uprising of the Xbox Live Party Chat, those friends are leaving me with the choice of talking with them or trying to enjoy my game.

Initially I think that chatting with people who aren't playing the same game as me would be quite asinine, and it is, but I still found mys..."

So the gang here has held elections and are announcing our picks for games of the year. I am a bit disappointed some of my picks including Valkyria Chronicles (sleeper of the year IMHO), Braid, Mirrors Edge and The Witcher Collectors Edition didn't make the list along with Dead Space and an honorable mention for the episodic format of SIREN on PSN. That said, seeing Fallout 3 at # 1 made my year! GOTY folks, truly is.

SlapStic.com owner Ryan Rigney runs into a game-ending glitch on more than one occasion in Left 4 Dead. The glitch involves the elevator in the No Mercy campaign becoming totally blocked and inescapable. We must demand a patch now! Skip to about 4:30 in the video to see the problem.

"One topic of conversation that always seems to come up after watching a zombie film is ‘how would you survive the outbreak?’.

Whether it be from your classic zombies (Romero style: slow and mindless) to your modern day zombie (run really fast, make a lot of noise) everybody has a different ‘imaginary’ survival plan.

So, with the popularity of the zombie film genre these days it only made sense that developers were going to try their hand at bringing them across to the gaming platforms. ..."

"Being a big fan of zombie-cinema, I naturally tend to play almost everything related to the genre that I can get my hands on. So here it is, a top ten list comprised solely of games that depict the inevitable forthcoming zombie apocalypse. You all know it's going to happen one day, so may as well get some virtual training in before it's too late!"

A group of modders has seen fit to develop a mod based around the movie Shaun of the Dead. The new mini-mod will take the settings, characters and weapons from the movie and incorporate them into Valve's Left 4 Dead.

"Throughout December, Gamasutra will be presenting a year-end retrospective, discussing notable games, events, developers, and industry figures of 2008, from the perspective of our position covering the art, science, and business of games.

Next, we'll cover this year's top five gameplay mechanics (with ten other honorable mentions), calling attention to a number of innovative, novel, or part..."

"Apparently, Valve has patched Left 4 Dead game servers to disallow the recent cheating to continue. Clever gamers figured out how to access the game console and alter values while playing. This resulted in all manner of craziness from invulnerability to players looking 1000 feet tall. Seriously, check out the vid below..."

"As a long-time George Romero fan (the original Dawn of the Dead is officialy my favourite film of all time), I was amongst those salivating over the prospect of a zombie apocalypse game from Valve. Since the first previews anticipation has been high, and now that the game has finally shipped I've been doing little else with my spare time other than blowing away the undead with various forms of high powered weaponry. So, is the game everything a zombie fan dreams of? Well, it certainly gets as..."

"Left 4 Dead is at once both inherently modern in the use of its technology and nostalgic in its design philosophy. Valve have decided that Co-Operative gameplay is in need of a shake-up, and alongside Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 and the promise of an updated Fable II Co-Operative Mode, some may think a game based solely around this principle would flounder in the Christmas line-up, but Left 4 Dead has plenty of it’s own ideas in the cannon..."

"If Half-Life and its sequel spelled the advent of the videogame sense of the cinematic, capturing the filmic while never using its exact form, then Left 4 Dead runs with developer Valve’s legacy to uncultivated territory. On the surface it’s what you’ve come to expect, with perfectly placed spectacle and the crescendos in pace to match. But Left 4 Dead also takes that cinematic inheritance a logical step further, by slyly inserting an omniscient Director who puppeteers and schemes to abash yo..."

"Let's get this out of the way right off the bat; Left 4 Dead is an absolutely incredible game and needs to be in any gamer's collection (provided that you are of age). This game does so many things right that it's easy to ignore, and maybe you won't even notice the few short-comings it has. Whether you are playing by yourself, with a friend sitting next to you, or online your experience will be unlike that of any that you have had with other first person shooters. Valve proves once again why ..."

"I did a lot of searching for how to setup a Left 4 Dead dedicated server and found next to nothing for resources. Thankfully, my prior experience with setting up Source dedicated server helped a little. I figure I will share my steps for setting up a Windows Left 4 Dead dedicated server so maybe it will save somebody else some time."

This is why when it comes to VALVE (Half-Life 2) and Bethesda (Fallout 3) games, the PC is my platform of choice - MODS! As console gamers will be left waiting for additional content for L4D on the consoles, us that have L4D on the PC have some great content to look forward to. Yes, the modders are already working on new maps, weapons and creatures for the game! Of all the maps being discussed right now, this one takes the cake. "At one point, while playing with 3 friends, we got into a situation where we had to defend ourselves in a small, two-story house from an unending wave of zombies for 10 minutes while a rescue helicopter was on its way. All four of us got inside an enclosed staircase with two men covering the door at the top and two covering the door at the bottom. One player on both ends of the staircase squatted down while firing, so that the person behind them had a clear shot. Any stray bullet that hits a ..."

It was 1985 (I was born in '78, do the math to find the humor in the story). I begged my older brother to take me to see Teen Wolf in the movie theaters. He finally gave in, and I will never forget the theater in Bronx, NY with the sticky floor and rats running under the seats. I had my popcorn and soda, and was about to see Teen Wolf, so rats didn't bother me. Unfortunately, when the movie started it was not Teen Wolf, but Return of the Living Dead. I was traumatized, and the story continues...

"Your character in Left 4 Dead dies much of the same way that protagonists die in previous games in the genre. Zombies come out of nowhere, jump on you, and blood comes gushing out, which can be scary if this is the first “zombie shooter” you have ever played in your life. If you’re reading this article though, we’re pretty sure that you’ve played them all. The zombies die the same, you die the same, your partners die the same. Everything is just (*sigh) the same."

"OXM (95/100): "Come to think of it, with a handful of levels and unpredictable events happening within them, Left 4 Dead has more in common with Ms. Pac-Man than just the eating. It's the same thing over and over - but when simple ingredients are perfectly prepared, what could be a mere snack becomes a feast. This one just happens to be on human flesh."

IGN (90/100): "Left 4 Dead is also a completely different kind of game, and it feels as much of an experiment as it does an amazing gamep..."

Valve has just flagged Left 4 Dead as alive (as it can be) and playable on Steam. It has been available for pre-load and pre-purchase for a while now but it is now officially playable. For those of you living under a rock, Left 4 Dead is a co-op shooter built around the situation of 4 human beings attempting to survive a zombie apocalypse.

"Namely: What exactly are we getting with Left 4 Dead? Sure, the demo levels are largely indicative of the full game, but how much game is there? Is this something that will get old after the first day? And what about this Versus Mode? Is it an after-thought, or a full-fledged component? Read on for our collective thoughts."

Jason Michaels of collegehumor.com has made quite the comical article indeed. Editing the cover art for certain games, he chose ten games to murder with puns.

Some of them are pointing out rather funny truths, others are just plain rude!

It seems Steam, the popular gaming client/application is taking a leaf out of Microsoft's book for its upcoming update. Steam Cloud will allow users to upload game saves, screenshots, and other footage - which isn't all that unlike what players can currently do in games such as Halo 3 on the 360.

This release will coincide with the release of the highly anticipated zombie shooter Left 4 Dead on November 6th.

Gears 2 is almost upon us, and so are several other great games, but one has to asks ones self, is Gears 2's MP up to the current line-up of intense fire-fighting Multiplayers that are coming out at the same time. COD 4 pulled it from top of the pile and kept it off, could Left 4 Dead do the same with it's full-on frantic co-operative MP aspects? And COD 5 is just around the corner . . .

Check the videos out before jumping to conclusions or allowing fanboism to cloud your view. It's a simp...

Left 4 Dead, the kickass cooperative zombie shooter is just round the corner and Valve have released the opening cinematic. If it is any indication of the rest of the game then this truly will be an horrific and thrilling experience, with almost 5 minutes of non-stop entertainment present in the video.

The new Zombie thriller from Valve, Left 4 Dead, has been selling out more pre-order copies than the hit The Orange Box. People that pre-order Left 4 Dead will be able to get their hands on a demo of the game a week earlier than the rest of the Steam community would be able to play ( November 11 ).

Valve is also holding a Left 4 Dead contest where the game will be given out to 25 winners, and the grand prize is a new computer build by AMD. To enter, you just need to take a photo of you a...

Since Left 4 Dead has been censored in Germany, it was only a matter of time before the box-art was censored too. Below is an image showing the original box-art (featuring a bitten-off thumb) and to the right is an image showing Germany's censored version (which includes the thumb).

It's certainly an odd change. Fair enough if they need to censor the artwork, but now it's just a picture of a regular ol' hand. Wouldn't it have made more sense to include the thumb, but add a bandage and a b...

Over at the Cinema Make-up School in LA, the web series titled 'Monster Makeover' lets you watch some talented artists turn people into horrible creatures that are found in video games. In the first video, they are using Left 4 Dead.

After each episode is put up, everyone has a chance to enter the 'Spine-Tingling' Sweepstakes, which gives you a prize package that includes an Elite version of the 360.

Looks like Microsoft is just in time for Halloween.

Where is Valve looking to be in the future? Currently it's not a definite as they're still deliberating on which path to take. Their expression of interest being for the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

It was originally thought that Valve did not like Sony's latest console, but Doug Lombardi has said otherwise.

Despite interest in the Wii, they say it would cost a lot more money making the PS3 a tempting alternate.

On a lesser note, the article also mentions that this may be a plus...

What's the most epic top list for video games you could think of? The top 5 apocalypse video games of all time of course!

Scott Sharkey from 1UP has made such a list. Inspiration comes from the all the big events currently gripping the world, a darker place than it's ever been before. What happens when people get extremely frustrated? Eventually all that bottled up energy gets thrust out in one big explosion, apocalypse! We gamers take it out through a simulation on the console, at least w...

Doug Lombardi has sent the guys over at Halflife2.net the PC system requirements for Left 4 Dead. It wasn't mentioned if this is the minimum or recommended system requirements but it looks to be the minimum.

"Left 4 Dead's release date was pushed back into late November but Valve Software will be giving you something to keep your hunger for brains at bay. A demo of the zombie multiplayer shooter will be available for both the 360 and PC versions."

The PC has been around for a long time and is the only machine that you can game on that isn't a console. A lot of people eventually expect the PC to die from the consoles sooner or later, but that may not be the case.

With a lot more people gaming on consoles now, the controls on certain games need to be "compromised". RTS games are a great example of that because there is no mouse or keyboard to help you along.

A different example of this is the upcoming zombie shooter Left 4 Dead. Th...

Turtle Rock Studios and Valve's next hit zombie game, Left 4 Dead had a release date of Nov 4th. Gabe Newell confirmed that date has slightly been pushed back a bit to Nov 20th, the anniversary of Half-Life.

To help perk up your spirits with this delay, Gabe also mentioned during GC 2008 that there will be a demo.

Left 4 Dead, Valve's upcoming zombie thriller, is set to be released on the Xbox 360 and PC November 17th 2008. Valve hasn't been as kind to the PlayStation 3 though, but Sony's recent successes with the powerhouse have turned a few heads over at Valve.

"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes," said Doug Lombardi.

Originally the title was expected to be ...

In the recently weeks there has been speculation revolving around Valve's up and coming 360/PC title Left 4 Dead in the view that there was going to be a port version arriving to the Playstation 3 via EA.

However today it seems there has been an announcement from Valve's Doug Lombardi for which has ended all current reports on the idea of there being a Playstation 3 port as he has stated: "There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production"!

In a recent but rather small article by OPM this week it seems like the Xbox 360 and PC title Left 4 Dead will be make its way over to the Playstation 3 but only as a port.. but furthurmore they have claimed that they believe Electronic Arts (who done the Orange Box port...) will be taking up the helm to port it over to us PS3 Users.

Don't we feel so lucky?

The QuakeCon, which is held in Dallas, had a lot of third-party games that were missing compared to last year, which featured Left 4 Dead and World in Conflict. Activision, Dell, Intel, and ATI were all at QuakeCon this year, but nothing has popped up about PC or console games. There were several banners put around with the World in Conflict: Soviet Assault logo on them, but the game wasn't even at the show because Activision Blizzard dropped it. There were other games that weren't there too,...

Popular Gaming Magazine PSM 3 have unleashed another round of rumors on the Internet concerning the PS3. Among there list is that both Sims 3 and Left 4 Dead will be coming to the PS3, IO Interactive is working on a new Hitman game, the 360's exclusive DLC for GTAIV will be coming to the PS3 6 months down the track and many more. Some of these mirror rumors from other sites so perhaps a couple of them are true.

In classic zombie fashion- Left 4 Dead's box art is amazing-typical of any "of the Dead", "... Dead", or Any George A. Romaro film or video game.

Kotaku recently got their hands on a demo for the upcoming XBox 360 survival-horror Left 4 Dead and they were impressed. They have no doubt that zombie-loving horror fans will get a kick out of this game.

"Following confirmation from GDC that there were no plans in place to bring zombie shooter Left 4 Dead to PS3, Valve’s Doug Lombardi has said that no fat lady’s sung on a Sony port yet.

“If folks want to do a PS3 version, we’re open to talk with third parties about that,” he said.

The game is currently scheduled for release on PC and 360 only."

"With this year's gaming harvest already played and beaten and filed away into memory like so many saves, it is time now to look on.

Past the bulbous shores of 2007, far off in the distant recesses of release schedules, lies the gone-golden bounty of untapped potential. And while many may slip their surly bonds and give flight to the year 2009, more still will cement their crusted plastic into delighted hands. Here we mark the prophecy of the PC legacy, a concrete, yet tumultuous hour of re..."

Just recently we were treated to zombie horror movie sequel 28 weeks later. Fast zombies, running at you, the terror and fear, the gore. Oh if only there was a game like that!

In a recent interview with Michael Booth, founder or Turtle Rock Studios; Michael Booth tells GamesIndustry.biz about working with Valve and the growth of online gaming.

This interview might perk some peoples interest (ie: mines ;)) with the pending release of Turtle Rock Studio's highly anticipated game Left 4 Dead. This is only part one of a multi part interview but unfortunately no mentions of Left 4 Dead have been dropped as of yet.

"At first glance, the concept is hardly what you'd call revolutionary. Players team up against masses of mindless monsters - actually ordinary people, transformed into zombies by a deadly virus. Yep, it's about as clichéd as it can get. But wait, don't go away yet, there's more about Left 4 Dead than meets the eye. It's not just another average multiplayer action game. This Xbox 360/PC shooter offers intense four-player cooperative play. While there's little to no tactical depth, Left 4 Dead d..."
