"So, while the criticisms that the Japanese market struggles with fostering creativity (a complaint that can be equally levelled at the Western market, mind you, and has been levelled at the Hollywood for years now) are reasonably justified, it's ridiculous to claim the industry itself is going anywhere. With Nintendo dominating the hardware sales, and the likes of Capcom and Square Enix and Namco Bandai making wise investments in social and casual gaming, the businesses themselves are placed ..."

The PlayStation Move library is pretty small and desperately needs more content. With the recent port of Dead Space: Extraction on PlayStation 3, it's obvious some Wii games could work well if moved over to Sony's console. These are the top five games that should be ported from the Wii to the PlayStation 3 with full Move support.

Countless Nintendo Wii games go ignored constantly despite being worthy additions to any gamer's collection of titles. Bright Hub gives you the top five overlooked Wii games.

"So you have this little white (or maybe black) box sitting by your TV. You know it's supposed to be used for something, but you can't quite figure out what. It doesn't play movies, and it isn't high-def. However, as much vitriol as the Wii gets, it does have quite a few excellent gaming experiences, many of which are unique to that little console. So if your Wii is gathering dust, and playing Wii Sports with Grandma has gotten old, check out some of these great third-party Wii games and remem..."

The Nintendo Wii may be doing well in terms of hardware sales but that doesn’t always guarantee success to the exclusive games available on the system, especially when it comes to third-party titles.

"Yoshiro Kimura on his games reaching cult status:

I’d really really like – just one time – to know the feeling that you get when you release a game and it sells like mad right away. But, the games that I make don’t do that. They just kind of simmer over time – just sell a little bit at a time. But there’s really nothing that I can do about that. However, I’m quite pleased that my games often get a cult following. I’ve played the role of both producer and director, and as a director I’m kin..."

"Cubed3's Adam Riley: Do you feel the idea of LKS could be replicated on Nintendo DS and would you consider making a portable version to offer the game to an even wider audience?

Yoshiro Kimura-san: LKS on DS, huh? That sounds like fun. So yes, I'd like to think it's possible. But in that sense I'd like to consider the possibility on all the platforms.

To tell you the truth, until recently I thought it would be difficult to do on a handheld device. However, I came up with an idea that ..."

After compiling All Age Gaming's choices for the 10 best PS3 and Xbox 360 games, All Age Gaming's John Elliott delves into the library of games available for the Nintendo Wii and selects his Top 10 Wii games to date. Found out his choices after the jump.

"Rising Star Games has announced the appointment of a new columnist at their Hoshi Club – the online destination for videogame fans to find out the latest details on Rising Star Games’ videogame releases and insight into Japanese culture. Following the signing of ex-Edge deputy editor, David McCarthy, Alex Sim-Wise shall have her own personal space to write about videogames, Japanese culture and pretty much anything she wishes."

Although the Nintendo Wii may be lacking in high-profile exclusive game releases in the year of 2009, the system did have quite a few overlooked Wii-only titles.

"The 28th of December hails the fourth instalment of Electronic Theatre’s special The Twelve Games of Christmas series; every day for the twelve days of Christmas Electronic Theatre will be running through the best releases of each month of 2009. We’re here to remind you of the games you should be looking out for in the 2010 January sales so that you can find the gems that you’ve missed. Today, being the fourth day of Christmas, is the turn of April 2009."

"Rising Star Games have become synonymous with those quintessentially Japanese videogame treats that otherwise may have never made their way to European shores. The sweet, inviting world of the classic Harvest Moon series and pleasing guilt involved in commanding your loyal (or perhaps, not so loyal) followers in Little King’s Story is regularly contrasted with the dark, grimy labyrinths of JU-ON: The Grudge or the under-appreciated Nintendo DS First-Person Shooter, Moon."

"Be honest, when’s the last time you gave your stick a waggle? If you’re a hardcore gamer, it’s probably been a while, but the rest of us power up the Wii every other day and give that barely-functional stick a shake or two. Why? Because it’s damn fun, that’s why. Here are the games that have had us swinging it the most this year."

"With the usual deluge of video game releases in the third and fourth quarter, combined with the continuing sagging economy, gamers may have an even harder time this holiday season coming up with the cash for all the games they want. In case you're hoping Santa (or, as the case may be, Hanukkah Harry) will bring you a sleighful of goodies this year, here's a little help making up those lists of yours.

First up is the Wii, which dominated the market for so long, yet saw sales fall this year,..."

NeoGAF poster GhaleonQ posted an interesting piece the other day on Love-de-Lic's PS1 title Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, a thought-provoking title that unfortunately got swept to the realm of obscurity by many higher-profile titles.

However, Moon: Remix RPG Adventure's relatively-unheard message needs to be relayed once more, and you need to read and learn the messages that Moon tries to teach, as a reminder for today's generation of gamers.

What is that lesson? Head on over to the sourc...

From weird commercials to wacky celebrities to sexy models to using Gackt (;-D), there's no denying Japan has many unusual ways of promoting video games.
So how is the upcoming Wii game Little King's Story being promoted over there? With burgers from Burger King, a guy dressed as royalty, a bunch of bananas, and a transsexual of course!
...I guess it kind of makes sense.

"Don’t let the cutesy graphics put you off, Little King’s Story is deceptively deep and at times frustratingly challenging. There is nothing little about Little King’s Story.

Little King’s Story has a charming narrative with dark undertones. Your chief advisor, a knight who evokes Don Quixote, pushes you towards world domination.

After a few days, a priest comes around and compels you to build a church. They both subversively discredit the astronomer who is investigating the cause of ear..."

Little King's Story might have just been released in North America last week but according to producer, Yoshiro Kimura, he's already in the idea phase for a sequel. Speaking with Siliconera, he stated that they are indeed planning on making a sequel but are currently looking for people to fund the project. So, if you haven't done so already, go out and buy Little King's Story and make this a possibility!

Edge was able to sit down with Marvelous Entertainment's chief creative officer Yasuhiro Wada, the father of the Harvest Moon series. In the interview, Wada is questioned on the state of the Japanese game industry.

The two major issues that he presents are the fact that Marvelous's name, because they have been responsible for not-so-great games in the past is making people being cautious about sales, along with the industry's overall over-reliance on familiar IPs, crushing original games.

"Katamari Damacy Tribute (PS3 Import) - The demo was just release today in the Japanese PlayStation Store so I had a chance to mess around with it for a little while. I'm actually impressed with the switch to cel-shaded graphics thanks to the Valkyria Chronicles-like filter that Namco employed. I heard that you can switch between different graphical filters, and from the looks of the video down below, it's probably true. Other than the graphical changes, the game plays as expected. If you didn..."

Did you think LKS@Neo was one and done? Not even close.

"So the character designers for Little King's Story - Kurashima-san (Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, Super Mario RPG) and Minaba-san (Final Fantasy XII) - they are really talented and they come up with funny ideas, and one of the ideas they came up with was to make all of the enemies vegetables. At first I thought it was funny, but later on I decided "yeah, let's not go that way..." However, in certain areas, you'll see a lot of vegetable-looking animals, and that's kind of a throwback to that earlie..."

LKS@Neo (Little King's Story @ Neoseeker) is a campaign that aims to keep you better informed for XSEED Games' Little King's Story for the Wii. The game releases this week in North America, and is already out in the PAL lands since April.

Little King's Story has you take control of the "Little King" Corobo Bred, who finds a mysterious crown that allows him to charm and order around people. With main advisors Howser, Liam, and Verde at his side, there's nothing stopping him from conquerin...

This week is terrible!

Aside from Little King's Story (for which Neoseeker has an interview and preview) and those down with the Rock Band Country Track Pack, there are just two other titles, one we dare not mention by name, and the other which isn't really that great (The Watchmen), if reviews are to be believed.

See you next week!

Once again, Gabriel Vega (better known as Vegi to some of you) sits down with XSEED to talk about their game, Little King's Story. And by "sit down," we mean correspond with over the Internet.

Anyway, here's an in-depth Q&A with game director Yoshiro Kimura, in which he talks about the mentality behind the game, its unique art style, and more.

"Little King's Story, due to hit the Wii this July 21st, takes players through the life of a young boy named Corobo who stumbles upon a crown infused with mystical powers. Upon donning this crown, Corobo is informed by the Bull Knight Howzer that he is the new king to a hidden village with the purpose of becoming... the best king ever. With the heir to the throne found out of thin air, the stage is set to expand for the sake of the people and the future of the world.

XSEED Games is usually good with their customer relations; you can send them questions and for the most part they'll be happy to answer. NeoGAF user Hero of Legend sent a bunch of questions XSEED's way recently, and received a response, gaining the following information:

  • XSEED still has two titles they haven't announced yet: one for Wii, one for DS
    • That Wii Game isn't Ougon no Kizuna.
  • Little King's Story will keep its July 21st date, and will have an all new Tyrant difficulty

With the way things are with the world's economy even the video game industry isn't exempt from feeling the pinch. Marvelous Entertainment is definitely one of those companies who are feeling the heat right now. A staff blog post (presumably by the Managing Director Yasuhiro Wada) states how they feel about their software sales on the Wii. He states how poorly some of their main titles have been selling on the Wii and says that, "I truly have teary eyes. I feel like crying."

However, there...

The 2009 Electronics Entertainment Expo begins next week on June 2nd.

"Thousands of gamers, anime fans and cosplayers of widely varying quality descended on ExCel, an exhibition centre in London, for one of the biggest events in the collective industrys’ calendar today, the 15th MCM Expo. Running for two days, 23rd May and 24th May 2009, those few Electronic Theatre readers who managed to miss today’s show may just have enough time to organise the necessary travelling arrangements, and grab that Bomberman outfit they’ve been saving for a special occasion."

"The latest release bought to Europe by Rising Star Games is somewhat of change of pace. Having been incredibly well received upon its initial Japanese release, the title somehow managed to reach European shores before our American cousins have been given the opportunity to rule over the land of Alpoko. The reasons behind this unusual circumstance aren’t particularly clear, but one thing is for sure, Electronic Theatre could not be happier about the situation."

"Rising Star Games will also be demonstrating upcoming titles including Avalon Code, Luminous Arc 2, Angel Cat Sugar and Happy Party with Hello Kitty & Friends, as well as conducting battle challenges on Valhalla Knights 2 and hands-on walkthroughs of the critically acclaimed Little King’s Story."

Valay of nintendoeverything.com presents us with some screenshots for the Wii game, Little King's Story. With King's and dragons, what more could you want?

"In a move rarely seen for a new Japanese IP, the title will be released in PAL territories first, emphasising the growing importance of the European market.

Little King's Story is a unique collaboration between the games industry's most prodigious talents. Boasting a team of legendary designers – whose portfolios include a range of highly-acclaimed and much-loved titles such as Harvest Moon, No More Heroes, Final Fantasy XII and Super Mario RPG – Little King's Story is a funny, charming a..."

The latest post on Marvelous Entertainment's Tokyo Game Show 2008 blog has a post written by Louis from their License & Localization Group, who handles games overseas. In the post (which is available in both Japanese and English), Louis announces that there will be a new unannounced game that Marvelous will reveal on the first day of the show. This is game also unknown to the Japanese press, for a full-on new game announcement. He also states that it is from a "charismatic Japanese creator...

1Up's Alice Liang was able to go hands-on with Marvelous Entertainment and XSEED Games's upcoming Wii kingdom-sim Little King's Story, outlining the actions of the game's townsfolk, whom the protagonist, the newly-installed young king Corobo Bred, must control to expand his kingdom.

Corobo must build relationships with the townsfolk to be better at issuing them commands and give them to motivation to essentially fight to the death. Each villager has their own personality and lifestyle, an...

With the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit only three days away, companies attending the event are still releasing their PRs revealing their E3 lineups.

The latest of which are Marvelous Entertainment USA and XSEED Games, who in May had agreed to a co-publishing agreement for Marvelous's US titles. Combined, there are seven games in the publishers' E3 lineup, with four fallings under the companies' co-publishing deal, while the last three will be released solely by XSEED Games.

The first...

With E3 rolling around in a week, IGN's Matt Casamassina received more info from publisher XSEED Games about the upcoming Little King's Story, that will also make an appearance at the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit.

As you can imagine, the kingdom that you will be building up while controlling the young Corobo Bred isn't the only one in the world of Little King's Story. There are seven other kingdoms in play, all with their own respective king that aims to strike you down before you beco...
