An interview with Kate Paiz, executive producer for Lord of the Rings Online, soon to be released as Free to Play. As the date for the F2P release, I ask her what it has been like to work on such a beloved subject matter.
Lord of the Rings Online (LotRO) site claims the game will soon turn to a free to play (no monthly subscription) model. While this sounds great on paper, the amount of hidden costs just to enjoy the game are absurd.
"Starting on May 25th and running until May 31st, previous subscribers to Lord of the Rings Online can play for free. The welcome back free week will let players, even if they're inactive, play the game and reap the benefits of a few bonuses."
"From April 29th until May 3rd players can return to the Lord of the Rings Online for free. This weekend's welcome back celebration comes just in time for gamers to participate in LotRO's third anniversary events and catch the end of the Spring Festival."
"Codemasters Online has announced the details of its pre-order programme for The Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood, the new digital expansion to the 2008 Massively Multi-player Online (MMO) game which is scheduled to launch on 3rd December 2009."
