Celebrating the 360's fourth anniversary IGN takes a look at the top 25 games on the console including some new and old releases over the years. The list is comprised of a wide variety of genres and features XBLA games for those looking for something on a budget. 360 owners can see what they've missed out on and put on their list for the holiday season.

IGN's 360 team has created a "Cheers & Tears" list comprising of 5 RPGs you should check out and 5 of them that your wallet should stay clear of. The Cheers section probably won't be much of a surprise to anyone, featuring Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fable II, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, and Lost Odyssey. The Tears list is made up of Dark Messiah, Phantasy Star Universe, Two Worlds of Might and Magic, Spectral Force 3, and The Last Remnant.

The father of Final Fantasy and head of Mistwalker, Hironobu Sakaguchi, blogs about the progress of the studio's latest unannounced game. He confirms that the game system is "almost done", and that "it makes tactical use of 'confusion and order on the battlefield' in real time". He is also working 120% on the title, and is still undergoing meetings in Tokyo regarding it.

"And making Legos is when I'm troubled with something. What I'm troubled with is graphic settings for the next new game project. When producing art and images from the script, different thoughts come out. I'm in the middle of kneading these thoughts.

What about the game itself? Planning to basically put importance on having seamless control of the overall direction of the game, mixed with CG spectacle scenes. Controls will have a bit of a trick to it, while having a blend of RPG-type strate..."

"It's hard finding a trailer that sticks with you and keeps itself glued to the walls of your memories. Trailers that manage to do such a feat are easily worthy of some kind of media recognition. So in the good spirit of acknowledging awesomeness where awesomeness deserves recognition, Blend Games has proudly put together a list of the Top 10 Coolest Game Trailers of 2008. So without wasting a whole lot of words on a pointless lead-in to the list, you can check out our top ten picks for the co..."

"We look at the top 12 games from several platforms in order to determine which are the Top 12 Overall Games for 2008, and you might just be surprised at the ‘overall’ winner for 2008 - coming from an Xbox site. OXCGN (aka XboxOZ360-gamer) has always maintained that the staff are “gamers” - not fanbois. Most have more than 2 consoles and platforms to play games on and simply enjoy ‘gaming’ period.

So what better way to round off the year than to take a look at what we believe to be th..."

"I don't think the chart needs to be explained, you have the games, you have how much space they would take on your hard drive, and then how much time you'd be saving (not listed on the chart is how much relief you will be giving your poor disc drive). No longer do 360 fanboys have the fodder of "oh you PS3 people have to install games blah blah" .. in the end, if you have a big enough hard drive, you know you'll be installing these games soon enough."

"In the photograph you’ll see most of the RPG’s I have in my collection. Some of them are very recent, like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, while others are in the usual R@RE and “buy it now” sections of eBay on a regular basis and will no doubt pay for my pension when I retire. All in all, there are about 40 Japanese style role playing games, including the few I missed in the shot, but they all have a place in my heart, as well as the same thoughts from many players of the genre."

"Real news from the virtual world:

_BEST OF 2008 (SO FAR): E3, the video-game industry's big trade show, is next week, and you'll be hearing a lot about all the new software coming between now and Christmas. But there's a bit of a lull until Aug. 12, when "Madden NFL 09" unofficially marks the beginning of the fall game season. July is a good time to catch up on some of the games you may have missed. Here are the best of the year so far:

1. "Grand Theft Auto IV" (Rockstar, for the Xbox 3..."

"Videogame characters are lazy, forgetful, or just plain stupid. Cutscene after cutscene, they exhibit planet-shaking combat abilities and a level of indestructibility which would make God himself jealous. But as soon as you pick up the controller? The Incredible Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner and all of those showboating tricks and superhuman powers disappear into the ether.

They're constantly saving their best tricks until we've already done all the hard work for them, and even if not,..."

The role-playing game Lost Odyssey will have a new Dungeon Pack available to play on May 23rd. The Seeker of the Deep dungeon is available from the Xbox Live Marketplace for 400 MS points. To gain access into the dungeon, download the DLC pack. Once the Nautilus can fly, fly to the center of the gulf on the right of the inland sea on the north of the Tower of Mirrors, then dive into the water. When the game says Enter or Examine at the bottom right corner of the screen, press the A button, an...

$2.50 USD (200 MS points) gets you the latest bit of Lost Odyssey downloadable content.

New content features a new dream ('The Shattered Bond'), the 'Killer Machine' ring, useful against magic-powered weapons, the 'Memory Lamp' which allows players to view Dreams in the Theater Mode, and more.

"When filmmakers and game designers are in the beginning stages of building a fantasy world and need someone to jumpstart the project with some breathtaking visuals, they often turn to Christian Lorenz Scheurer. The Los Angeles-based Swiss artist recently posted some of his sketches and early production art for Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey."

Well from the looks of the article it certainly seems to be the case. GamePlayer have looked over past interviews and information to break down the reasons as to why it seems that 2008 will see more RPG's released on the XBOX360.

From the fact that the (now-ex) Vice-President of Microsoft's XBOX division having drinks with FF series's co-founder (in 2004 mind you) resulted in Mistwalker, the company formed by the latter party after Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within tanked at the big screen...

Popular Australian gaming show 'Good Game' reviews Hironobu Sakaguchi's latest RPG, Lost Odyssey.
"

With the latest exclusive for the XBOX 360, Lost Odyssey is racking up some decent points.

1up: 80/100
Eurogamer: (80/100)
Gamespy: (50/100)

Some pretty decent reviews aside from the 50% from Gamespy. North America gamers can already look forward to poor packaging, lets hope the game doesn't disappoint!

Kotaku have heaped together all the reviews of Lost Odyssey they could find, and it seems that the game is aimed towards fans of the classic RPG (or to be more specific, the classic Final Fantasy) audience.
While random battles and slow loading times seem to be the game's main problem (which might not even be a problem for people looking for an "old style" RRG), it's story, characters and audio are said to be top-notch and definitely worth playing for anyone interested in a deep RPG experie...

With Lost Odyssey finally released in the U.S, the packaging isn't identical as people would think it is to the Asian version. Plus since it's an Xbox 360 game, the game comes on four discs which reminds us of the PSX generation when were playing any of the Final Fantasy games or back when Shenmue was released on Dreamcast.

The packaging comes crammed with four discs. Three discs are stacked while the fourth is in a papered envelope. The Asian version had a much better solution which is to...

Ever since Hironobu Sakaguchi left the helm of Squaresoft, there has been a big hole missing from the Final Fantasy series. The games were never quite the same after their creator had left, and unfortunately for Sakaguchi, his new gaming company "Mistwalker" didn't start off as successfully as he had hoped either.

But all that is about to change with the recent American/European release of Lost Odyssey - a 360 game that is being touted as the "new Final Fantasy", with it's deep storyline, ...

Well, this was originally the week Super Smash Bros. Brawl was supposed to drop, at least until the delay happened. However, what that means is that the games released this week aren't sent to die, and that's a good thing, right?

The two games I'm looking most forward to this week are the two in the title: Lost Odyssey (360) and Professor Layton and the Curious Village (NDS). Lost Odyssey is another RPG designed by Mistwalker, headed by the man who created Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguc...

"Australian game site GamePlayer is reporting that if expectant consumers do not pre-order Lost Odyssey prior to release, they will not actually receive the game in its entirety.

Pre-ordered copies of the game will come complete with a special redemption card enabling the user to download two pieces of in-game content that will not be available to ‘regular’ buyers."

Honestly, there's no other way to put it. This tracking week is still well into the holiday season in Japan, and if it were somehow possible, DS Lite and Wii numbers increased. 41 out of the Top 50 are on a Nintendo system, with no 360 showing, and Sony representing the other nine. The PSP continues the have same problem that it had last week. But still, the Nintendo numbers, frankly, are completely and utterly absurd.

At the top of the rankings is our newest DS million-seller, Mario P...

It's another zany sales week in Japan, with DS and Wii sales shooting through the roof in a Nintendo-dominated top ten, and some weird and disheartening PSP sales.

There was a flip-flop at the top of the rankings, as this week's top seller was last week's #2, Mario Party DS, selling 180k units. The #2 seller is last week's #1, Wii Fit, with 124k units sold. Rounding out the top five is the only non-DS/Wii game in the top ten, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3 - 116k - BD Version), Professor L...

Welcome to this week's Media Create numbers, where we see the holiday fervor in full swing with increased numbers across the board (with exception). The combined strength of new releases and continued strong sales of recently released games both contribute to the numbers this week.

The top software seller this week is our favorite Wii non-game, Wii Fit, pushing very nearly 150k units. Following it in the #2 position is Mario Party DS, selling 107k units. Rounding out the top five are Ta...

""Barring a dramatic shift past the six hour mark, Lost Odyssey isn't going to blow people away with its visuals or presentation. But, aside from a few cliches here and there, all signs do point to an otherwise solid Japanese RPG.

Since Lost Odyssey's unveiling back in mid 2004, much of the attention has been focused on its storyline. To help flesh out the core concept of a character who lives eternally (or 1,000 years -- whichever comes first), Sakaguchi asked Japanese author Kiyoshi Shige..."

In the recent Famitsu issue here are the top 20 games most wanted from Japan's biggest games magazine. It's a really interesting list as what dominates the list in being No.1 is Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS and then followed by Final Fantasy XIII which was at No.1. Third place comes the highly anticipated Resident Evil 5. A list containing top notch games. Too bad only one game from 360 makes it.

Speculation is currently looming over what Microsoft will be offering at the Tokyo Games Show tomorrow for there Xbox 360. Rumours build up from a great line up of products with the likes off Konami's Winning Eleven, Microsoft Game Studio's Halo 3, Koei's Blade Storm and Square Enix's The Last Remnant including many more. But I guess we will find out tomorrow for sure.

"In a recent, lengthy interview, FeelPlus president Ray Nakazato revealed several details about the upcoming Mistwalker RPG, Lost Odyssey. While the game is not yet fully complete, Nakazato did indicate that the developers were happy with what they had, and confirmed that the game would be released sometime in 2007.

According to Nakazato, Lost Odyssey will feature around 400 locations and 300 characters. The total length of all the cutscenes in the game comes to about seven hours, with ..."
