MADWORLD is a total guilty pleasure that you can't put down. The visuals, music, and gameplay come together in all the right ways, and you simply cannot pass up this game.
"U.S. Supreme Court that a California law banning the sale of violent video games to kids went too far is just the latest in a long string of headline-grabbing moments in gaming history. Unfortunately, at least as far as mainstream audiences are concerned, those headlines often center around violence in video games, particularly focusing on how that violence affects children. Read the full story for more."

When video games are designed to look a specific way, the visual style can often last well past the viability of a console. This article examines how developers create visually "timeless" graphics, as well as collects several of the most prominent examples.
Despite some shovelware, the Wii is home to countless amazing exclusive titles. Such titles deserve follow-ups, yet not all of them have received an additional entry in their respective franchise. Here are five Wii games that could really use the sequel treatment.
"Love it or loathe it, violence has been a staple part of the video game formula for some time now. Technical and graphical advancements have only made the depiction of violence easier to manufacture, with some games now displaying the brutality in such vivid and sadistic fashion that it almost makes you feel queasy.
With the recent release of Sony's God Of War 3, it seems like now is as good a time as any to examine some of the more gruesome deaths in our beloved medium.
So here's Digit..."

"This generation has seen its fair share of epic titles, captivating narratives and intense action -- but not very many iconic, unique, or influential game characters in comparison to previous generations. Luckily though, there are a few of these figures in the current generation."
"Recently, there’s been a lot of press about SEGA and EA’s disappointment with the sales of 'adult' Wii games, such as Mad World and Dead Space: Extraction. While games like Wii Sports Resort seem to sell by the truckload, many 'mature-themed' titles struggle to break even.
Unfortunately this has lead to various games journalists and their readers making a very dubious leap of logic. In short, they're claiming that Nintendo is just for kids. According to certain elements of the gaming commu..."
"When Electronic Arts announced Dead Space Extraction for the Wii—a follow-up to the million-plus selling PS3, 360, and PC title Dead Space—the company explained that the game would be used as a test case to see whether or not it would develop more Mature-rated Wii games in the future. And according to NPD sales figures, Extraction failed: it sold just 9,200 copies in its first week. So what does this mean for the future of Mature Wii games?"
All Age Gaming's Phong Nguyen bring's us the 25th AAG "The Week That Was". This week he discusses the God of War 3 Ultimate Trilogy Edition, GT5's further delay, the Wii getting Netflix, the Xbox 360's 3D capabilities, Project Natal and more!
"In an exclusive interview that will appear in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday 15 January, Platinum's Shigenori Nishikawa said "I think MadWorld was very well received and was acknowledged for its innovative graphical style and gameplay. We would definitely be interested in making a sequel in the future."
Nishikawa clearly doesn't see a problem with making another mature game on Wii, a console he describes as "a very well-balanced piece of hardware.""

"SEGA Europe’s community team are all known for their generous interactions with fans and constant delivery of fresh information about all the latest SEGA releases through a wide variety of different outlets. Regularly communicating through Twitter and their Facebook page, their own official Blog and Flickr account, and even making a flesh and blood appearance at the London MCM Expo in October of this year, and now they have issued a small Christmas greeting to their fans across the continent."
"It happens every year. Both journalists and hardcore gamers flip out over a video game, giving it numerous awards and high scores. Then we sit down to play this supposed virtual epiphany and have no idea what they're talking about. Welcome to the most overrated games of 2009, a collection of massively hyped and underwhelming titles that never deserved so much unnecessary praise, even from us. With that, let's begin."
Madworld wasn't a huge success in the West, so Platinum Games are trying a little harder for the game's release in Japan. At the Great Harvest Festival 2009-2010 event, the makers were seen promoting the game with Japanese bikini model Konan, who was dressed in a ridiculously pointy bondage-esque costume that is apparently worn by one of the characters in the game. Konan also demoed the game, which must have been quite a feat in that outfit, saying that it was "connected to my own movements a...
Ah it's that time of year again, when you're going to be browsing websites or running to the mall for last-minute gift-giving. I mean, really, who does Christmas shopping before the week of? Pfft.

Well, Nintendo has done such a great job of showing their support for hardcore titles on THEIR OWN PLATFORM that we keep hearing things like, "Oh, I sold my Wii already."
Especially after this year's E3, right?
A lot of people who've been holding on to their Wii consoles have been wondering if publishers will continue churning out Mature Wii games, given that none so far have broken sales records. However, Gary Dunn of SEGA Europe has confirmed that they do plan to continue supportin...
"MADWORLD Official Soundtrack includes all twenty original songs from the game produced by PlatinumGames composer Naoto Tanaka in collaboration with Hip-Hop and Rap artists OX, Doujah Raze, Sick-YG, Bandy Leggz, Wordsmith, S.O.U.L. Purpose, and Optimus. Featuring explicit lyrics, the provocative soundtrack reflects MADWORLD's highly stylized graphics and visceral gameplay."
It is the opinion of Neoseeker writer Lydia Sung that Nintendo has in recent years fallen a bit off the wagon, so to speak. Okay, a lot.
Citing her experiences at E3 this year, some of the company's contradictory statements and actions, and support of the mature audience (or lack thereof), she divulges on how Nintendo has missed the mark in a lot of ways, and touches on how they can fix it.
Have a read if you feel so inclined!
Techspot.com brings up the years-old topic on whether the general Wii audience is interested in mature or 'hardcore' games, using the examples of the recently-released ultra-violent Madworld and the upcoming Capcom game Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles.
Sega and Platinum Games were hopeful that Madworld would be a success, but the game didn't even manage to hit the 70,000 sales mark. Capcom have revealed that they are confident that Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles will sell well, as U...
"I've been away for a couple of days so missed out on the big sales story from last week – namely that GTA: Chinatown Wars has seriously underperformed. The Rockstar developed DS title shifted 89,000 units in the US in March, way below the 200-450,000 analyst prediction. And that's despite the game being rather good and certainly not just the retro remake of GTA 1 or 2 that many feared. So what happened? Is the Nintendo DS audience just not interested in "mature" gaming?
And it's not just t..."
"Nintendo made the Wii for girls. Oh, and grandmas, too, who are like girls, except with more wrinkles and better oatmeal cookies. But you know who the Wii is NOT for? People who play video games consistently, i.e. guys, and that’s why the Nintendo Wii is doomed for failure in the long run."
"While Wii may be selling faster than tickets to an all boy choir being sold at a Catholic parish, the games have received very little fanfare on the review front. Outside of the occasional mini-game compilation and first-party titles, Wii has struggled greatly in North America to establish any sort of strong sales figures for third-party games that measure up to the console's install base. Hardcore and casual third-party exclusive titles for the Wii fall very flat in comparison to the PLAYSTA..."
"MadWorld isn’t perfect, and I think a sequel for it would be a damn shame, as the gimmick could only really work once. All the same, it’s a damn great game and a must-own title if you own a Wii and are mature enough to play it. It’s funny, it’s bloody, and it’s freaking hilarious."
Is the Wii's gory comic book styled Madworld as good as it looks? Gametrailers finds out.....

"So you thought you could enter into a crazy town full of murderers and psychopaths and you wouldnt get any help? Well, you thought wrong. Sega understands the necessity of mayhem when its multiplied by two. So, just recently, the company has released a new trailer showcasing the carnage that can be caused with two people instead of one."
"Electronic Theatre has just received the following release from SEGA:
We know how you guys love our merchandise, so allow me to present to you some nice bits of MADWORLD merch that are available when you pre-order the game at various outlets in the UK."
This smart little kid, it seems, got the idea to educate her mother on what exactly MadWorld, the upcoming beat 'em up for the Wii, is all about. The trailer she's watching can be found here.
Her reaction? Pretty chill. Because she is sane.
"Nintendo owners were left in the dark last year, wondering if their beloved Wii would ever get the hardcore games it so rightfully deserves. If you feel this way then you have something to look forward to with Platinum Games, MadWorld. Platinum Games is creating a game that no one would expect to come to the Wii due to its over-the-top violence and overall aesthetic design choice. Hopefully, MadWorld gives me an excuse to blow the dust off my Wii and fall in love with it all over again."
As a part of IGN's ongoing coverage of the Sega-published PlatinumGames-developed Wii title MadWorld, they've released an exclusive new gameplay video for the gory beat-em-up. Watch Jack as he goes through the Bistro section of Asia Town, massacring foes and skewering ninjas as he makes his way to the boss.
MadWorld will make its way onto store shelves on March 10th.
Remember, ninjas hate pirates.
"Think of the most gruesome weapon-based death you can. Think of something so sadistic you can't imagine it being replicated in a game. Now stop. Play Madworld. If the tools that you imagining using are hanging about, you can probably carry out your sick fantasy."
Rich Knight from Blend Games gives his hands-on impressions for the Wii's ultra-violent action game, Mad World. He mostly has positive things to say except for that the game becomes repetitively rather quickly.
In this latest blog from our own Neoseeker/GameGrep user Tainted, we get a brief overview of what SEGA has been up to in the publishing and development ring lately, coupled with the suggestion they are "doing something right...finally".
Between Sonic & The Black Knight, The House of the Dead: Overkill, MadWorld, The Conduit, and more, do you think SEGA is on a better road?
"Ive seen Madworld a few times, but this was the first time I had the chance to go hands-on with the game, and that really made all the difference. To bring you up to speed, the game takes place on the set of a deadly television show, with a definite nod to Smash TV or The Running Man. Youre just trying to stay alive and earn cash, achieved by killing fellow contestants in increasingly brutal ways. Levels play out as medium-sized open-world arenas that increase in size as you cause more carn..."
"I must admit it was pretty difficult to choose the finalists since there are over 50 Wii games to be released this year (at least this is the number we know of!). Therefore, we had to let out other promising titles like Endless Ocean 2, Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers or Overlord, but Im pretty sure that the list below manages to cover the hottest upcoming releases. So check it out!"
A new trailer from Sega. The new trailer shows the broadcasting of Madworld from Death Watch. It doesn't show much gameplay, but it gives you an idea of the humor that is inside this game.
"We have a pretty good idea of what games are going to be big this year. Guitar Hero? It'll do well. StarCraft 2? Yeah, no problems there. But there are a bunch of games that have a good chance of flying under the radar, and we wanted to call attention to them in a little feature we like to call Dark Horse Games of 2009. No, they don't involve husbandry"

Rumors have been floating around the 'net that Sega's controversial title Madworld may be banned in certain countries due to it's excessive violence and gore.
Media watchdog group mediawatch-UK were all for the banning, claiming that they "believe it will spoil the family fun image of the Wii" if the game is released.
Well, gamers weren't too happy with Mediawatch-UK's views, and they were soon bombarded with hundreds of angry emails diagreeing with their point of view. Unfortunately, t...
"When we think about the library of games on Nintendo consoles, the word ultra-violence rarely creeps up. Sure, Ill recognize that there are a handful of exceptions to that rule on the Wii. Well, maybe two: RE4 and Manhunt 2. And considering that the latter barely managed to release on the console, we have to wonder what the team at PlatinumGames (formerly Clover Studios) is thinking when they decide to make a game that rewards players that impale, crush, and then chainsaw the guts of their..."
By now, we've all heard of MadWorld. It's the rare violent and bloody game that is releasing exclusively for the Wii, but the Action game may be a little too gory. Sega - the publisher - isn't sure whether MadWorld will release in Japan - which has recently banned Dead Space - or other countries and will not be shown at the TSG 2008.
Platinum Games, comprised of veterans from Capcom and Clover Studios, just rolled out videos for Bayonetta, a Devil May Cry type shooter, and MadWorld before their TGS release.

Is your Wii or DS collecting dust? Do you not know what games to buy next?
Well here are a few upcoming Nintendo games that might tickle your fancy ...
The latest trailer from publisher Sega and the brain trust at Platinum Games for the upcoming action game MadWorld made its way to the internet from the Games Convention in the Deutschland today, showing off more scenes of the game in action.
Players play as Jack, a man with a chainsaw for an arm, who is trapped in the violent TV show Death Watch. He must make use of his incredibly sharp environment to puncture, skewer, and other actions that shouldn't be said on the internet to tear his ...
The Nintendo Wii is vastly regarded as a lighthearted and fun, family oriented console. The new 'over-the-top' hack 'n' slash game, MadWorld, may be about to complete blow that image out of the water. From impaling terrorists on street signs to rampaging with chainsaws, death and destruction is the clear focus in this title - definitely one to steer clear of for those who play Wii sports with the kids at BBQs.
In a press release today, Sega has announced its lineup for the upcoming Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Headlining the publisher's offerings are two of its more recognizable mascots: Sonic and Amigo, in the form of Sonic Unleashed [PS3/360/WII], Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood [NDS], and Samba De Amigo [WII].
With the Beijing Olympic Games currently ongoing, Sega has also decided to bring Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games [WII/NDS] and Beijing 2008 [PS3/360] to the show, ev...
From the laughable British magazine the Daily Mail comes another new gem, this time targeting its sights on the upcoming ultraviolent Platinum Games Wii game, MadWorld. The point of contention is that it is one of the most violent games ever making its way to the 'family-friendly' Wii.
MadWorld is one of the four games from PlatinumGames's publishing deal with Sega. The game stars Jack, who is stuck in the confines of Varrigan City, forced to participate in the do-or-die death show, Deat...
Siliconera had the chance to talk to Christopher Kaminski, who is the Associate Producer at Sega about the development of Mad World, which is being developed by PlatinumGames. Kaminski answers questions about the inspiration for the design of MadWorld, how interactive the enemies will be, and a lot more!
IGN sat down with Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of sales and marketing, who is also the annoying lady that spoke at the E3 2008 Press Conference, and she answered questions about why Nintendo seemed to focus on casual games at E3, why they didn't show off more hardcore games at E3, and if Nintendo will be at the Tokyo Game Show, as well as other shows. To read the full interview, hit the link.
Game designers haven't been too happy with the abundance of casual games in the industry lately. Kojima thinks hardcore gamers are being forgotten and Suda 51 was disappointed with the lack of interest that Wii-owners had towards his 'hardcore' games.
And now, three of Capcom's ex-developers are also sick of seeing so many uninteresting and casual games manage to get onto consoles (especially Nintendo consoles). Their studio - Platinum Games - wants to create a bunch of good-quality, matu...
