"Meet Jimmy. He’s one bad mother. If you own the PS3 version of Mafia II then you already know all about him from The Betrayal of Jimmy. Well, Jimmy’s back in all new multi-platform DLC and he’s out for vengeance in Empire Bay."

"Hands on our impression. (We are restricted in what we can say until the full review is published but do check back with us it will be published closer release date.)

So that’s the preview according to the publishers but what is the actual product like when you get your hands on it?. Does it live up to the expectations?. Well yes it does and not only that, it blew them all out of the water. I should have known it would be good it’s from 2K games after all and they have yet to disappo..."

"If my experience is any indication, Mafia II should not be mistaken for another GTA-clone. It is a linear game in open-world clothing, but that is certainly not a complaint. The four hours I spent with Mafia II were absolutely riveting. If the rest of the chapters live up to the superb storytelling and fierce gunfights, 2K is going to have an epic tale of criminal proportions on its hands."

"After playing a near final build of Mafia 2 at a private media event hosted by 2K Games in San Francisco, the game’s 1950s authenticity is its most intriguing feature. The open world action-adventure not only brings fans back to a gritty world of organized crime, but shares an engaging story that’ll have Mafia purists clamoring for more. Oh yeah, it’s got Playboys all over the place too."

"One way it sets itself apart from GTA is the era in which it takes place. Mafia II’s environments and vehicles will change with the time as the narrative progresses. Being set in an earlier time period means things are a bit different than players might expect; characters obviously don’t have access to cell phones, weapons are less accurate, and, as expected, vehicles all control like boats. That’s more a note on the realism, not a knock on the controls, since it helps build the mood and sell..."

The latest information on Mafia 2 is the new Dev-Diary released several hours ago, come check it out, and the detailed hands-on and other media from OXCGN's time with the game at developers 2k Australia's offices last week.

The detail in the game looks well above others, and the storyline actually has some depth to it, although I see it on a different level to our previewer, and it will be interesting to see how the game does in 5 months time when it is released in August.

The Kartel gets some hands-on time with the follow up to Mafia, and walks away impressed with the attention to detail in recreating a dynamic open world, the improved combat experience, and seasonal weather effects.

"The sequel will be running on LS3D's successor, the Illusion Engine, and if the trailer for Mafia 2 is any indication on how it looks, it will blow what 2K Czech did with LS3D out of the water. Empire Bay looks spectacular, and the level of emotion you can see in the faces rendered by Illusion is very cool. At this point in time I would have to say that Rockstar and Liberty City can't hold 2K Czech's jock!"
