"After twenty-eight years, over one hundred games and sales of over two hundred and twenty two million, new research today reveals Mario as the best-loved videogame character of all time. Independent research carried out by YouGov across Europe places the Italian dynamo ahead of such gaming luminaries as Lara Croft, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pacman and Master Chief from Halo."
Limit Break have posted up a family line chronicling Mario's nearly 30 years of appearances, starting as Jumpman in Donkey Kong Arcade back in 1981. The "tree" depicts how the Mario franchise has branched out over the years and where some of the concepts for the popular spin-offs stem from. For example, the Mario Kart series can be traced back to the Famicom Grand Prix F-1 Race game which was released in 1987, ages before Super Mario Kart was introduced. I seriously had no idea about some of ...

Australia gets to see its software sales for 16th of November! What topped the all consoles category? Surprisingly it's the game that's had a lot of criticism, Wii Music! Call of Duty: World at War then took second and third place on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.
Wii Music also topped the Wii section. This was followed by the popular Guitar Hero: World Tour and then the ever well selling Wii Fit.

A new tournament for Mario Kart Wii online has come out, and it is for Wii Wheel pros. It is going to be on Nintendo 64's Skyscraper Battle Stage, and you are only allowed to use the Wii Wheel. The mission is to get the best time on the track, and the tournament dates are from September 1st - September 10th.
"The newest Mario Kart Wii tournament went live a few days ago, but unfortunately, some participants took it upon themselves to hack their way to the top. Two racers have submitted ludicrous times - 0.004 and 0.609 seconds. Immediately upon looking at these results, one would quickly surmise that the results would not have been able to have been achieved through ethical means. Also, one of the hackers has gone so far as to dawn the name ihack@you. This is not the first time the Mario Kart Wi..."

"Next time you're on a multiplayer server, you might want to ask everyone who's a Canadian, and then ask who among them are dudes. Because according to a Microsoft survey, every fifth one of them (in the long run) has gamed in the nude, and might be doing so now.
Microsoft commissioned a pretty serious poll up in the Great White North, asking Canadians all sorts of questions that sound like a Cosmo bedside astrologer survey, if "game" is used as a euphemism for "sex." Do you game at work? (..."
Seven new titles have found their way into the top 10 of the software charts for the Japanese. Powerful Pro Baseball Portable 3, which is made by Konami, took the number 1 spot and the number 2 spot is now occupied by Endless Frontier: Super Robot Wars OG Saga for the DS, which is a new game made by Namco Bandai.
The chart is based off of Media Create.
"Taking a cue from Mario Kart DSs Mission mode, the new Galaxy Arena tasks the player to bash around several of the Spiky Topmen who were last seen knocking Mario into space in Super Mario Galaxy. The aim of this mission being, to knock four of the baddies off the side of the stage in as short a time as possible.
Admittedly the downside of this news is that this mode and arena are only available when competing in the online Tournament mode and not in offline multiplayer, but its still nic..."

The popular Playstation Portable game, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has got Japan to ship over 2 million units. This is the first time that any game in the Monster Hunter franchise has gone this far in Japan and it's the second hottest game, following Mario Kart Wii. Now here's hoping for an English version!
"This Thursday, April 24, if you head out to the Sheraton Hotel on 811 7th Ave., between 52nd and 53rd streets, you'll be able to meet Mario, or a reasonable facsimile of same. He'll be able to hail you a cab, which he will then pay for in advance (!), from 8-10 AM and 12-2 PM.
Any New York City Game|Lifers want to head down and snap some pics? Bonus points if you get a ride to the Nintendo World Store."
"Nintendo has confirmed what we knew was in the pipeline after discovering a membership card in our review copy of Mario Kart Wii - Club Nintendo is coming to Australia.
Essentially, Club Nintendo will reward you for buying Nintendo games. Games that are part of the system will come with a unique PIN that can be entered into the Club Nintendo site. You'll then be given Star points, which can be used to purchase "goodies" from a catalogue available on the Club Nintendo site.

You may have heard recently about the cheaters on the time trials of Mario Kart Wii, well now Nintendo has gotten serious and blocked the way of cheating as well as deleting all the cheated time trial times.
Seems we can count on Nintendo for saving this game many times to come when more glitches are exploited.
Nintendo always seems to have the worst luck when it comes to the online modes in their games.
Mario Kart Wii was only released today, and already people have taken over the online mode to cheat their way to winning.
The Time Trials have been the worst hit, with most of the times recorded being impossible to legitimately reach.
Iwata goes to three guys that are on the development staff of Mario Kart Wii to ask a few questions.
The staff tells us that Mario didn't start off as Mario in the Mario Kart series, but rather as a man in overalls. The game didn't even start off as a racing game but more off as a free roaming game.
The staff also talks about how they didn't want a rehap of what happened in the DS version where little by little the track became deserted. That's why in the Wii version they plan on changi...
"Oh my. Anyone preparing to throw the Wii Wheel out with the bathwater when their copy of Mario Kart arrives may want to know this. The latest fact sheet handed to us from Nintendo contains some notes on the game's four control schemes. Here's what it says for the Classic and GameCube controls:
Classic Controller: Mario Kart veterans can let their thumbs do the driving with the Classic Controller. However, players cannot perform certain moves with this control scheme.

On April 5th in the United Kingdom, thirty game stores will hold Mario Kart Wii tournaments. Lucky winners who qualify for the finals will face off on April 12 at an exclusive racing day event at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey where the "Grand Wii" final will take place. The best racer gets to take home a Mario Kart VW Convertible. See source for a list of game stores.
With Mario Kart Wii's launch date of April 11th (Europe) fast approaching, details of the game are being released everywhere. Today, Nintendo of Europe has revealed the Wifi modes of the game.
You could choose between Worldwide or Regional in random matches, or duke it out with your friends. As you wait for your turn to hit the track, you could spectate other races going on. You could also set up rooms with your friends where you can text chat about the match. There will also be rankings w...
Recently IGN revealed that Mario Kart Wii will have voice-chat ... but that has now turned out to be not so true. Today IGN have updated their article with more "accurate" information.
If you were looking forward to bugging your rivals online or casually chatting to friends, then you will have to wait for a future Nintendo game instead.
Mario Kart Wii's voice chat will consist of a small list of automated statements and responses for you to choose from while playing the game.
Are you a Mario Kart junkie? Well, we've got an article for you! CVG has put together a Mario Kart Wii FAQ, that features every single detail of MKWii that we know so far. The FAQ includes everything from the new and classic tracks, the vehicles, the characters, the controls, the items, and even the multiplayer.
As we approach the apparent release date of mid-late April for this anticipated game, Mario Kart Wii, Nintendo can't help but tease us with screenshots, details, and now the box art. So we now know what it looks like, now the next question that comes to mind is: What's it going to cost us? With the Wii-Wheel it's bound to be more than the average $50, but perhaps buying it packaged with the game will be cheaper.
Anyways, can't have a Mario game without the mascot to show off in the cover n...
"Mario Kart Wii will be released on April 10th in Japan. Nintendo thus reveals to us the first images and some information:

Lastly, courses. We will once again find 16 new courses and some remakes of the old circuits. Among the latter, the ones that were already confirmed are Waluigi Stadium (Game Cube), Mario Circuit ..."

"One of the biggest titles coming up for the Wii is Mario Kart. And now, I think the hype meter is going to shoot up about another ten notches as 16 player multiplayer races were confirmed in the upcoming edition of the Official Nintendo Magazine."
"For the holidays we have a huge line-up of Wii games already, including Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Pokémon Battle Revolution. Fans will not be hurting for great games to play, said Nintendo, who wants to delay one of its biggest franchises for an onslaught in 2008."
