After years of flogging a dead horse, Capcom finally seems to have given up on the Mega Man series but do the older classics still hold up today? Going back to a game 20 years later is never an easier thing.

When video games are designed to look a specific way, the visual style can often last well past the viability of a console. This article examines how developers create visually "timeless" graphics, as well as collects several of the most prominent examples.

The 80s were a turbulent time for videogames, with the end of the industry nearly in sight. Great game innovation kept it alive. The Kartel highlights the games of the 80s that are still just as fun to play today.

It's another Monday, and some more games will be added to the North American Wii Shop Channel today. Unlike previous weeks where we've seen one WiiWare game and two Virtual Consoles get uploaded, this week plays a little reversal on us, with two WiiWare games and one Virtual Console game getting added this week.

The first WiiWare game is one that we've already knew it was coming: Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Episode 2: Strong Badia the Free, from developer Telltale Games. ...

According to David Crislip, one of Capcom's Assistant Producers and lead for the Virtual Console, Mega Man 1 will hit the North American Virtual Console tomorrow, and will be followed up by the release of Mega Man 2 in September, with new WiiWare retro title Mega Man 9 to hit later that month, as relayed by John D's Capcom Unity blog.

Mega Man 1 was the game that started it all for the Blue Bomber, although the game didn't reach great popularity until the release of Mega Man 2, which has r...

  • After being already rated by the OFLC, the fans awaited for the impending possibility of Mega Man 9, for which most assumed would be available for a downloadable service. An early leak of the next Nintendo Power issue reveals just that. That's right, folks. Mega Man 9 is headed to WiiWare.

Mega Man 9 will sport old school 8-bit NES-like graphics, with the control method presumably being the Wiimote on it's side. As noted in the interview, the father of the Mega Man series, Keiji Inafun...

"With Capcom’s announcement that Star Force 2, in its various collectible flavors, is now available at retail, I find only lament for what’s been done to my beloved Blue Bomber. Like most people, I discovered Mega Man at Mega Man 2, widely considered the definitive episode in the franchise all those years ago. I went on to play the original and when Mega Man 3 came out, I had saved up my pennies (I was 14) to pick it up at launch. This wasn’t three months after I had done the same with Castlev..."

"While wood traditionally isn't the best material to make a robot out of, Woodman is the strongest character of Mega Man 2 and perhaps the whole series for that matter. Massive on defense and equipped with one of the more useful items Mega Man can use throughout the series, Woodman would be remembered as one of the greatest boss's in video game history. Before battle he would pound his chest to signify his truculent ferocity and make the player fear his body of pure wood that was more difficul..."

With the NA releases of Sin & Punishment and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels on the Virtual Console, paying attention to which games get VC releases in both Japan and Europe get much more important, as these games are then ready to be used on the VC, and sport the possibility of crossing the ocean.

The European Virtual Console was updated twice this week, first with the surprise update of the Wii-enhanced Pokémon Snap on Tuesday, and the standard release on Friday. By no means is the r...
