"Like its retail games, the Wii’s downloadable titles on WiiWare often get a bad rap. The two line ups are very similar; though there is an overwhelming glut of undesirable titles, a batch of quirky, unique and fun games exist below the surface."

"Today, during the “Archie Comics Means Business!” panel at the New York Comic-Con, Archie Comics announced that, through a partnership with Capcom, they will be producing a new comic book series based on the original Mega Man in 2011."

Classic games remakes have been on fire lately, often being re-released without being touched at all. In some cases, sequels have been created in the spirit of the 8-bit era. Of course, we're speaking in particular to the two new Mega Man games. Frankly this is a fantastic turn of events in the gaming industry.

"From the "lowly" pixel came some of the most realistic high definition, three dimensional graphics known to man, some on parallel ground with modern films. If this were any other area of technology, the old would have been thrown out for the new ages ago. But regardless of how far we've come in making games look incredibly realistic and beautiful, the 8-bit style just won't seem to die.

Think of pixels and color limitations as just another artistic medium. If 8-bit is acrylic paints and a ..."

"I doubt Iron Forge Press will sell any prints or merchandise (e.g. shirts, hoodies, mousepads) based on the art due to licensing issues, but perhaps someone around Fort Lauderdale had the foresight to gather up these posters after the show to sell on eBay?

You can see more of Basilio Mendez's concert posters and other work (some of which is not safe for work) on his MySpace page, which, of course, automatically plays heavy metal music as soon as the site loads."

"Released last October, Mega Man 9 is a retro platformer 11 years in the making. New DLC was released today for the game that might entice some fans to boot it up again. "Superhero Mode" can now be downloaded for 80 Microsoft Crazy Points ($1). The content makes the game harder by increasing the amount of enemies you'll encounter.

We've heard of buying cheats to make a game easier, but now you can pay Microsoft and Capcom to make your life more difficult. Superhero Mode adds no new achieve..."

"Mega Man 6 shakes up the old Mega formula with another anime cliché: the robots that sexually combine into bigger robots. Mega Man and Rush can heterosexually fuse to form either the rocket-toting Jet Mega Man or the pugilistic Power Mega Man, both of which have slightly different abilities and thus allow for some branching paths within the game world. If Capcom’s been beating a dead horse up to now with their NES Mega Mans, then Mega Man 6 is at least a modest attempt to bring some new life ..."

There's...just no words to describe how beautiful this is. It's a fanmade animation called Mega Man 2.5D.

And the part that's based on a little something from Mega Man 3 brought a tear.

If Capcom pulls a Square-Enix (lawl crono trigger), it will simply be unforgivable.

The last article by Jim Sterling I posted here on Grep seemed to have come with mixed response. I now give you something new that I think we can all agree on... the cheapness that comes with some games trying to make you play for more than necessary.

"With the recent two-tiered release of the Resident Evil 5 demo, almost a full three months before the game's launch date, Capcom has proven once again how they truly understand the video game industry and community. But their extensive use of pre-release demos is not the only way that Capcom "gets it." The company also has a deep back catalog of games going back to the days of the NES that they mine and refine for game ideas. While some companies could use this history as a crutch, Capcom als..."

Sure, I'm a little late to that party, but by now you've all had time to sit back and contemplate your picks. "Mega Man 9 is the first episode in the original Mega Man series in more than a decade. It's a download-only game, and is available on all three of the home consoles for their equivalent of $10. What makes the game even more remarkable is Capcom's decision to produce the game in the style of the first six games. As a result, the gameplay would be right at home on a classic NES console in the mid 1980s."

"In years past, NeoGAF has done their favorite moments in gaming, using only MS Paint to show you. Looking back at 2008 brings us some of the coolest moments, great memories that can look amusing to just plain epic, even when in Paint. I purposely left out the names of the games as half the fun is guessing (but if you can’t figure it out, right click and hit properties to see the file name where I put the game)."

ever wonder if games such as Sonic, Mario or Mega Man used some sort of Cell Shading? And pulled it off beautifully? Well if anything, this is how they might look like. These were all created by Mikaël Aguirre, a fan of these games and they sure do look beautiful. If anything, Nintendo should consider making games with these type of graphics.

"We're just fiending for Santa crap around this time of year so why don't more game companies take advantage of our sentimentality with special DLC? Here's five pieces of downloadable content we'd love to see next December"

The top 20 WiiWare titles for the US as of the 10th of December. The results are based upon what is currently the highest selling, not over time.

World of Goo is doing well for itself, continuing to take top spot. This is followed by the new of the old classic Tetris Party. In third place is My Aquarium, a WiiWare title which at first didn't look to be popular and suffered from negative speculation.

The top ten video game baddies, marvel in their wickedness! See classics such as Dr. Eggman and Bowser, stare at Wario the overweight evil brother.

Though it's a real nice find to see Gruntilda Winkybunion from our beloved Banjo-Kazooie series get in at first! Followed by Final Fantasy VI character Kefka Palazzo and Ganondorf in third from the Legend of Zelda series.

"When Mega Man 1 came out for the NES, one could understand the complete lack of originality in the names of the bosses. As Mega Man 1 was the introduction to this great series, it was appropriate that the basic elements were represented as bosses in these games. After Mega Man 1 though, there was Mega Man 2 and 3 with some of the most innovative bosses in the series. Who could forget the likes of Gemini Man and Snake Man who both made our “Top Ten Bosses from the Mega Man series” list. After ..."

"I’m really hoping this isn’t going to be shut down, but it seems some dedicated fans have created a Mega Man feature film. It seems stupid, but they actually manage to pull it off, at least in the trailer.

A few interesting points, though…

In the trailer, they call Mega Man Rock, which is what they call him over in Japan. So shouldn’t the movie be called Rock Man: The Movie?"

"I will begin by saying that you really really really need to be in a certain mindset to appreciate this game and prevent yourself from flinging not one, not two, but numerous controllers through your television."

"Think you've seen everything there is to see in Mega Man 9? Unlocked all of the achievements? Conquered every level with Proto Man? Even recreated the game in paper form? Yeah, you've probably uncovered a fair amount of stuff in Capcom's classic revival, but according to Seth Killian over on the Capcom boards, you haven't seen it all.

"There's only one undiscovered Mega Man 9 secret that I know about… I don't predict anyone will discover this one for quite a while yet…" -- Seth Killian, Ca..."

"Now that Mega Man 9 is here in all of its archaic, old school glory, we find ourselves spending those spare moments between loudly uttered curses of frustration pondering on the glories of Mega Man games past. Before the series spun off in various directions to incorporate Maverick Hunters, Battle Networks and the letter X, the basic mold of fighting a series of bosses and then using the powers of the fallen to defeat those that remain hung on for a full eight games before tapering off, only ..."

"Ouch, I wish I had been able to find out and tell you all about this last night. Still, there should be some time left.

There are a very limited number of these to be available, and you can bet your ass they're going to move fast.

Pelaajalehti.com recently held a poll for their people to decide the most beautiful video games of all time. Not all of the top ten received a warm welcome, with people believing many voters just chose their favourite or latest hype as opposed to the most beautiful games.

Is it your top ten?

Wall Street Journal, well known in the share market world. You've lost a lot of money and your economy is failing. You turn the page... to see Mega Man!?

That's right, Wall Street Journey featured an article on Mega Man. A pink one to be exact.

"Mega Man 9: stronger than the American economy and twice as likely to give you a heart attack."

"The original “Mega Man” is arguably the hardest game in the series, but I’m hard pressed to believe that’s because Keiji Inafune and his team at Capcom intended to make something bitterly difficult to screw with players’ heads; that’s just how games were designed back then. Games of that era were ridiculously difficult and “Mega Man” was no different.

“Mega Man 9,” however, comes during an era of game features like a “no fail” mode in “Rock Band 2″ and regenerating health in “Halo.” “Mega ..."

While we did get the screenshots associated with Mega Man 9's final three Robot Masters, we now finally get the concept art associated with those three masters.

Jewel Man, a robot who works in a diamond mine, uses that mine as his stage. When fighting Jewel Man, Jewels will surround him before they are fired towards Mega Man. Defeating him will yield the special weapon Jewel Satellite, which creates four diamonds that form a barrier around Mega Man, which can also be fired straight ahead...

Yesterday, IGN reviewed Mega Man 9, giving it an impressive score of 8.6. They note that the developer, Inti Creates, went all out, adding in extra things like DLC and a ranking system for various time trails.

Mega Man 9 stays true to the old, retro days. The pixel font is there, as well as a really simple menu. What fans of the series really wanted was hard and fun gameplay and they got just that. With a high learning curve coupled with some very challenging robots, this game is sure to k...

Games newssite Games Radar has confirmed that the first DLC for the upcoming retro revival, Mega Man 9, will be none other than Mega Man's brother: Proto Man. He will be playable, and will be packing the slide and the charge shot, which Mega Man will not have in this game. Also handy is Proto Man's shield, which can deflect smaller bullets but will do nothing against larger blasts.

The Proto Man DLC will set you back 200 Wii Points/160 Microsoft Points/$1.99. Mega Man 9 is set to hit US...

The Mega Man 9 soundtrack has officially been released! Containing bonus material such as staff comments and a boss gallery it's no surprise that this CD will make it big! Looks to be worth the money, but do you think so?

Capcom's upcoming retro revival for its iconic blue bomber, has been dated for Japan. Mega Man 9, the series' 8-bit return to roots, will hit Japanese WiiWare on September 24th, and will go for 1000 Wii Points.

Some new Mega Man 9 rumors have hit the internet by way of Mega Man fanblog Protodude's Rockman Corner, with a reader who goes by the moniker "SSJ4" has requested that they be posted. As with all rumors, it must be taken with a grain of salt.

The rumors focus mainly on possible DLC for the game, that will remain intact across all three versions of the game. Some of the more noteworthy DLC were modifications to the Rockbuster/Mega Buster's normal shot, playable Blues/Protoman, Ryuusei no ...

Low on health? Need some more energy? Capcom has just the thing for you!

35 BGM and SE tracks are planned for Mega Man 9. The booklet will also feature comments from producer Hironobu Takeshita.

I know I'm ready for some ...

Capcom producer Hironobu Takeshita had a fine chat with Gamasutra earlier in the week about the upcoming Mega Man 9, the "new" NES game - a quirky project, to be sure.

It's really a fascinating interview that goes from the obvious question of "why?", to how they recreated the feel of the originals (bugs included), to inspiration (the originals), fan feedback, audience, and modern gaming vs. oldschool gaming.

Takeshita-san is terribly polite and passionate about his work in the talk. Ag...

According to David Crislip, one of Capcom's Assistant Producers and lead for the Virtual Console, Mega Man 1 will hit the North American Virtual Console tomorrow, and will be followed up by the release of Mega Man 2 in September, with new WiiWare retro title Mega Man 9 to hit later that month, as relayed by John D's Capcom Unity blog.

Mega Man 1 was the game that started it all for the Blue Bomber, although the game didn't reach great popularity until the release of Mega Man 2, which has r...

Back during E3, summit-goers noticed Capcom execs wearing a peculiar T-shirt throughout the summit. That T-shirt happened to depicted the boxart for upcoming WiiWare/XBLA/PSN release Mega Man 9, in all its retro glory, bringing back memories of the Mega Man boxarts of old.

Well, Capcom USA is working on making these shirts available for purchase. Rejoice.
