Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

The previous decade not only produced some incredible titles, but it also contained some of the best video game box arts ever seen in the gaming industry.

""What exactly did Subsistence do right? Well, to start off, it included an improved camera and an online multiplayer mode. These two additions, coupled with the updated versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid 2, helped push Subsistence over the edge with longevity.""

"The final product is astounding, the look, feel & sound of a Metal Gear product is all there. Despite the lack of a true blockbuster feel, you know the kind that costs around $40,000,00, Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy is the greatest fan made movie I have ever seen. I strongly urge you to watch this, and then get over to the comment section and tell them what a great job they did. It has taken years, literally, but they kept at it and now it’s done."

"A couple times over the past few years, we've decided to sit down and take a good, cold, hard look at the PlayStation 2's library and select the best of the best to let you know what our favorites were (and are). Even though the system is fighting with every last breath to stay alive, it's still surprising to us that new games continue to creep into our list. So, because it's been a while, we figured it was time to look at our picks again and update our choices for the best 25 PlayStation 2 g..."

A Turkish man has escaped a prison in western Germany by making use of the tried and true Solid Snake method of using a cardboard box. There is now a manhunt taking place to recapture the clever escapee.

"Kotaku reader and Philadelphian "daeeatsall" is not what you might call a "casual" fan of Metal Gear. This pair of Metal Gear Solid 3-inspired tattoos that have effectively eliminated him from the regular workforce are a testament to that, with a "Zombie" facepainted Snake on his right and an Eva on his left."

"If you haven't played all of the games in the series, there's every chance that some of it will leave you feeling slightly adrift and a bit confused. Heck, even if you've been following every labyrinthine twist and Byzantine turn of the story so far, there's every chance it will leave you pretty confused. That's because with each new game in the series, the story so far has got more elaborate, more complex, and more convoluted, to the extent that trying to make sense of it all is a bit like h..."

Someone on XMBonline believes that not everyone can review a Metal Gear Solid game. He/she believes that the review for Eurogamer did not appreciate the 'core value' of the franchise and believes the negatives(long loading cutscenes) are more of a 'blessing than a curse'. He/she says that only hardcore gamers should be able to review it properly in their perspective, rather than a casual gamer.

"If we’re not jumping through hoops trying to save a kingdom, we’re fetching some rare Crystal Sword of Infinite Necromancy all out of the kindness of our hearts. What do we get in return? “Ah, gee thanks for risking life and limb to do a big ol’ fancypants favor for me and restoring our world to what it once was from the Dark Ruler of Naught. Here’s a medal, young adventurer. Never mind our bustling cleavage. Now get the hell out, street rat. Sorry ‘bout the hard-on.”

Whaaaaaa? Fast..."

"Here’s a joke: Did you hear the one about Uwe Boll directing a movie version of the acclaimed video game series “Metal Gear Solid”? So did Uwe Boll – only he’s not laughing.
“This was an absurd story,” Boll told MTV News about how his name got attached and then removed from a cinematic adaptation. “Two French guys wrote a script, said they are from Konami hired to write the script, said ‘You wanna direct it?’ I read the script, I liked the script. I said, ‘Yes, I can do it.’”
A quick deal..."

"I discovered this little gem during my Garage Cleaning. A press kit for Metal Gear Solid 3, this item was handed out in limited quantities approximately every 15 minutes during E3 2004 (the game came out about six months later in November). What is it exactly? It’s a CD containing the main theme of the game, “Snake Eater”, that is held in the center of a fake cardboard vinyl record that matches the 60’s theme of the game.

View more pictures and info of this lovely item at the source."

The best way to describe this: Amazing. Better yet: Truly amazing. One Japanese gamer went through MGS3, taking the most interesting and clever pictures imaginable. Watch the whole thing, because the set-ups get more and more elaborate, more and more incredible. You know, this is the best thing on the internet right now.

"Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today confirmed speculation that Metal Gear Solid ®: the Essential Collection is currently planned for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Now Metal Gear Solid fans have the final chance to fully immerse themselves in the Metal Gear Solid universe before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots."

"Video games have a long tradition of creating tough-as-nails protagonists that fight hordes of oncoming enemies. Still, few have been able to elevate themselves to true “badass” status. Sam Fisher and Solid Snake are two characters that have been known for years for their ability to strike fear into enemy NPO’s and let gamers unleash their inner Special Ops soldier. However, there is only room at the top for one badass to rule them all. Myarcadeplanet is putting that power in your hands. I..."

In the Electronic Gaming Monthly Magazine for October, Bryan Intihar overviews the differences from the Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3 and the New Snake of Metal Gear Solid 4. Intihar looks at the various differences including shooting and the online play. Which Snake is better is up to you, but hear Intihar out first.

While some might suggest that Ubisoft's Sam Fisher is the king of gaming stealth, the one true king - regardless of any past failings - remains a certain Mr. Solid Snake from Kojima. As the Metal Gear Solid franchise approaches the 20-year marker, its creator offers up insight into its history and effects.

Konami have decided to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Metal Gear in style by opening up this new page on their official website, and I have to say it's looking pretty good! The Metal Gear series has had success on all these different platforms, so it deserves to be recognised.
