"The story’s basic premise has actually become more interesting in the years since its release, and it seems far more apropos to 2011 than it did to 2008. With civil unrest, and Occupy Whatever movements popping up this year, this story of urban rebels fighting the authorities is quite timely and anyone who likes the Occupy Whatever movement might be especially interested in Mirror’s Edge. But the story and setting are really just a tiny part of this game. While the story is awful, the gamep..."
Available today only, you can pick up the mobile version of EA's free-running experiment, Mirror's Edge, in the Apple app store for free. The game is a side-scrolling platformer, as opposed to first person.
"How environments improve the gaming experience
Game architecture can succeed by improving gameplay, enhancing atmosphere, or telling a story.
What follows are but a few of the best examples of architecture in gaming that I’ve come across, unsorted and open for expansion."
With fall releases in full swing the crew at Goozernation looks back to their ever growing backlog which includes games such as Red Dead Redemption, Fallout New Vegas, Goldeneye 007, Enslaved, Borderlands, Bulletstorm, LA Noire, and Metal Gear Solid 4. The bigger question here is how can a gamer find anytime to play this stuff and how did these games end up in the backlog?
A new Mirror's Edge game has been hinted at in the past, but EA senior vice president Patrick Soderlund has all but that official in an interview. Soderlund says...
"When Mirror's Edge came out roughly three years ago, it was considered a rather fresh, if not at times flawed gaming experience. The approach was great. A first-person platforming experiencing utilizing free running and set against back drop of a futuristic utopian city run by a totalitarian regime. No one could argue against the unique approach DICE brought with the game."
"Now it isn't exactly fair to say that Assassin's Creed is doing things wrong, because it is a legitimately fun game. But I've run into this problem so much it just makes me not want to play the game some times. I'll be running towards a wall, about to vault over it while chasing someone when Ezio will suddenly veer left and throw himself down a flight of stairs. This usually means I've lost the target I was chasing and have to start over. While I understand that the system can't be perfect, t..."
"This is something that someone should tell to EA Games President Frank Gibeau who says that single-player only games should be abandoned in favour of ‘connectivity’ and other things that nobody REALLY needs in order to have a good gaming experience. What he and the rest of the EA Studio heads need to realise is that if you make a good single player game that’s of high quality then it will sell. Look at the first Uncharted, that sold perfectly well and there was no multiplayer or connectivity ..."
While stereotypical characters are still fun and fitting for certain video games, it's nice to recognize characters that go against these stereotypes and make a unique name for themselves.
"Last week’s Electronic Theatre Sunday Special was the run down of Top Ten Videogame Heroes; featuring the protagonist you loved like Sam Fisher, Sonic the Hedgehog and Link. So to prove that the games industry isn’t just a man’s game, this week we focus on the Top Ten Videogame Heroines. Ten of the females that got you hot under the collar, and not in the Dead or Alive Paradise way, but stayed on track with the heroic mission which faced them have been chosen for this week’s feature article."

Mirror's Edge is a game that stands the test of time, you can get it cheap at a shockingly low value and if you've been holding off on that purchase here are some reasons behind why you should jump in now!
When video games are designed to look a specific way, the visual style can often last well past the viability of a console. This article examines how developers create visually "timeless" graphics, as well as collects several of the most prominent examples.
"While the women in fighting games tend to get the most attention for being considered "sexy", their cousins in the action genre are out shooting it up and exploring boundaries well beyond the confines of a ring. Just because these characters are rendered in more than bikinis doesn't mean they're not sexy.
The action genre has been dominated by male characters since the creation of gaming. But there have been a few exceptions to the rule of sexes. And of course, these female exceptions have..."
Award-winning writer Rhianna Pratchett recently discussed creating game stories; How difficult it is writing for video games, how much of her writing was cut from Mirror's Edge's final product, why her female characters are a far cry from the female game character archetype, what advice she could give to aspiring game writers, and why she suspects the majority of game writing is so poor.
"Bullet-time has become a staple of action video games over the past ten years, and a lot of thanks can go to the sci-fi blockbuster, the Matrix. The art of slowing down time in order to act faster, or respond more precisely, has slipped it’s way into a number of our favourite games, and we’re here to pay homage to these time-bending experiences."
"Gaming Union: What do you think of DICE's choice to make Mirror's Edge, and now that they're developing a sequel?
Liliegren: Knowing that that product was in development for about seven years.. [laughs] and given that it wasn't Mirror's Edge when we started, but it was one team working on 'the new IP' for seven years, I think they did a strong final. They did something different that people hadn't done before. I think it needed a second generation so they can tweak on it, I played it a lit..."
"Some people blame the economy for a game’s poor sales but with the gaming industry gaining ground even in the face of the sunken economy there has to be other reasons for it. Some people blame market saturation saying there are too many desirable games to compete for the available time and cash gamers are willing to surrender. Still others think that a game’s sales have everything to do with competing titles released on or around the same date. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that some gam..."
"While the rumour is still running wild with fans hoping for a sequel to 2008’s Mirror’s Edge, an inventive but ultimately flawed project from the developers of the widely respected Battlefield series, DICE Studios, Electronic Arts has confirmed that an adaptation of the game will be making it’s way to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Due for release in January 2010, Mirror’s Edge for iPhone and iPod Touch once again casts players as Faith Connors."
"Like comic books and movies, videogames tend to present an exaggerated representation of men and women. Dudes are typically muscle-bound meatheads with powerful jaw lines and a thorough understanding of all forms of combat, while women generally have back-breaking chests and dress like strippers regardless of their profession.
Lara Croft, for example, is a world-famous icon that carries an entire franchise. She’s smart, tough and more capable than the men she’s pitted against, yet still go..."
It was recently announced that EA layed off 1,500 workers. They said that they will now be focusing on IP's that guarantee a profit. Such games Battlefield, Madden and Need For Speed. But what about all the new IP's that EA has created in the last few years. Such games as Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Spore and Brutal Legends might never see sequels. Which is a such a shame as EA renewed themselves with these amazing games, that sold only decently.
"Every time a game is successful, critically or commercially, folks start speculating about sequels. Will there be a sequel? How many sequels? When will we see the sequel? What will happen in the sequel? Who shows up in the sequel? Sequel?
That’s too obvious. A truly compelling game deserves the exact opposite. If the story is masterfully written, players will want to see how it actually started. If the world is deeply designed, players will insist on seeing how it first formed. And if the ..."
For those that missed out on the previous Mirror's Edge PC deal, either because you were/are Canadian, just weren't around, or didn't catch it before it sold out, we have another one again today which may be even better for you.
On iNetVideo, the game sells for $8, with $5 shipping (there's also a French version for $6). NCIX is also selling for $8, it too with $5 shipping, or local pickup if you happen to live in Greater Vancouver.
The game ships with a free CD as well, which includes ...
Searching for an appropriate image for the Mirror's Edge had heaps of Faith's dialogue cut article, I became inspired by the bevy of awful imitators and animators of our beloved parkour star I came across. As RabidChinaGirl's own take went on Neoseeker, people have largely missed the point with the character.
This is further evidenced by the images you see here, just a few examples of "failing at Faith" (note I left the dreadful nude edit jobs out for obvious reasons) -- as writer Rhianna...
She's not very happy, you see.
As these things go, Faith of Mirror's Edge once had quite a lot of gameplay dialogue, but due to the break in "immersion" it caused, it ended up being axed at the last minute, according to writer Rhianna Pratchett.
Personally we'd find it a bit weird hearing Faith speak much more than she does during the gameplay bits, but it is interesting. What about you?
If you're at all interested in Mirror's Edge and have a capable gaming PC (system requirements are on the game's profile below), Newegg currently has the game on sale for $5.99 and with free shipping! Sadly this is only for US residents.
Even if you have the console version, it may be worth picking up as personally (having tried both versions), the kb/mouse controls and more enjoyable and natural, though of course it's preference. Further, you do get the advantage of improved graphics, hig...
Little did we know, it seems Mirror's Edge was once considered for the Wii, which would've been developed by Backbone Entertainment; Unseen64 has discovered a couple of images to that effect, which you can see here.
The game was also pitched for the DS and PSP. Oh well, there's always that flash game.
"Then 2008 came, along with lots of new IPs. Do you think that it was the right strategy to launch that many new IPs so quickly, or, as you look back on it, would you have spread them out?
FG: I'm not the kind of guy who ever looks back. I look back long enough to learn a few things and then apply them going forward. I think in the spirit of your question, I think we launched too many new IPs all at once in Q3.
I would have spread them out and found better windows for them. I would hav..."
"When asked for an update on the future of the IP, Soderlund told us: “Mirror’s Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move. The game wasn’t perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think.”
He added: “You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do.”
Soder..."
If you haven't noticed yet, most recent games have a certain look to them. That dark, grey brown look, where everything looks dead and old. Well it seems to be a trend in most shooters and some non-shooters this generation. Many of us would think that this is just a new art style that the developers are into, gamasutra thinks there is more behind it. And that is the technology of the consoles.
GameSpot has a pretty great expose online now regarding the "DRM dilemmna" -- that is, publisher action said to minimize piracy by limiting what gamers can do with a given title for the PC.
In it they speak to DRM advocates, opponents, developers, publishers, and DRM vendors themselves -- a must-read if you're looking to gain a broader perspective on the matter at hand, or don't know what DRM is about.
"2008 was probably my greatest year for gaming. I had just bought my Playstation 3 before the beginning of the year, and after ploughing through my first next-gen title; Assassin’s Creed, my expectations for the many 2008 titles to come were high. However, as I would find, there would inevitably be a few letdowns along the way. Here is my list of five of the games I though didn’t live up to the hype they were given…"
"The short story behind this project: For about a year now I have wanted to do a movie style photo shoot. My background is in independent & documentary film and I have always been heavily influenced by Hollywood films. I chose the Mirror’s Edge because aside from it being a fantastic video game with an iconic character, it was a plausible world to recreate for the camera.
I had brainstormed this project with a fellow Photographer A.J. Pomales for several months. We gathered shot ideas on th..."
Mirror's Edge was one of those rare gem's that was overlooked in 2008. And now PC gamers have a reason to get back to the game. With a simple file swapping from UT3 you can a level editor for Mirror's Edge, making your own cool levels.
If your interested in this, you can check out the on-mirrors-edge forum for help.
"In such cases, DLC works a bit like expansions for PC games, extra content added after the fact. It's what most of us suspected DLC would be when it first came around for console games, but Capcom and Electronic Arts have recently rattled gamers by announcing planned DLC before their games are released."
"Mirror's Edge fans finally get the long awaited Time Trial Map Pack today after enduring one delay.
Shedding the cityscape, DICE created a series of new environments that look minimalist but feel surreal, successfully fusing two art genres in a virtual setting. You still play as Faith, and the basic mechanics of Time Trial still apply. There are a total of nine maps, and each one bears its own unique flavor, created by subtleties in color, lighting, and block placement."
"From the day when video games developed the graphic capabilities to simulate cleavage, women in games have been designed mostly from the blueprints of a horny 13-year-old boy's fantasy. If a female character wasn't in need of rescue - yes, we're talking about you, Donkey Kong - she seemed designed specifically to reinforce negative body images.
But there have been a handful of female video game characters that Brandi Chastain would be proud of, with more seeming to appear in recent years...."
No, this article has nothing to do with the Portal song. It's actually a "Behind The Scenes" video in which music producers Rami and Arnthor discuss the making of the Mirror's Edge theme song (which is also called "Still Alive") that is sung by beautiful Swedish singer, Lisa Miskovsky...
In this harsh economic time, people don't have as much money to spend, that means game companies as well. In the hopes that to gain more sales and a bigger profit, some companies might slash their prices to something lower then 60 dollars. Some examples are Mirror's Edge and Madden NFL 09 which were both slashed down in hopes of gaining more sales. But in the end, is this a good thing? Should we as gamers be more willing to spend money and a game that is worth 60 dollars instead of a handful ...
"During a conference call today, EA CFO Eric Brown noted that both EA Redwood Shores' Dead Space and DICE's Mirror's Edge sold over one million copies each in 2008.
The figure includes all versions of the games that were released in 2008. The action-horror shooter Dead Space was available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, while the first-person parkour game Mirror's Edge hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008."
"Just keep moving. Dont stop to smell roses, dont worry about the helicopter on your tail, just keep running and hope that you survive the whole ordeal. And thus is the tale of Faith, a woman who has found herself caught in a political scandal revolving around the assassination of a famed Mayoral candidate. And while story itself is garbage, the beauty of the game comes from how well everything gels together. Despite the horrible story and poorly designed combat sequences, the excellent leve..."
Binge Gamer's Intern Perry takes a look at the elements that make a game and provides a guide for future games to follow. Listing examples, both good and bad, on some obvious subjects and some not so obvious that need to be taken into account: Play Control, Characters/Writing, Graphics/Glitches, Depth/Replay Value, Atmosphere, Licensing, Hype, Initial concept, Sound and Music. Hit up the source for the in depth read.
This is an interesting take on DLC. Instead of adding map packs that 'fit' the overall theme of the game, DICE decided to make their map pack too look like an abstract dream. They asked themselves "if faith is dreaming, what will she dream about" They also announced that the PS3's free map will be released tomorrow separately from the other map packs.

Mirror's Edge had a pretty cool commercial, but these images done in Photoshop would have been some great magazine ads.

"Mirror's Edge revolutionised the platforming genre by introducing it to the first-person view - a view that had traditionally been relegated to shooters. But how would the game have looked if it was played in the traditional third-person view? Now you can find out.
"
Mirror's Edge recieved quite a lot of good reviews. But some not so great, mostly complaining about its difficulty. A blogger talks about how the problem wasn't the difficulty, but the way gamers approached the game. They see a FPS and began to play the game like COD4 when the game should be played differently. Continue on to read the full article.
"This guy Patrick emailed us to say he got a tattoo like Faith's from Mirror's Edge. Immediately I thought of her eye sunburst and figured he's gonna look like Mike Tyson. Nope. Much, much cooler.
Writes Patrick:
"Faith's tattoo design struck me when I watched the E3 2008 trailer, and I knew I wanted to emulate the tattoo. This past summer — prior to the release of Mirror's Edge, I brought an image of Faith's tattoo to a local tattoo artist, and he tattooed a similar design on my right arm..."
"If we think about LittleBigPlanet, Age of Conan or Mirrors Edge, we notice they have two things in common: very successful and well received demo versions (or beta stages) and very poor, lower than anticipated game sales. And since these are not the only titles in which a demo (or the lack of it) appears to be connected with their commercial success, I believe we should analyze the influence demos have in the game world and debate: are game demos game killers?"
Just released yesterday, DICE have released a patch for the PC version of Mirror's Edge which fixes a bug with the game's PhysX capabilities. Grab it at the source!
Some new content for Mirror's Edge should bring gamers back to the notoriously short title -- downloadable content (DLC) arrives January 29 on PC, XBLM and PSN. For a look at what exactly you get, check out Neoseeker's coverage here.
Additionally, the PC version arrives in North America today, shipping worldwide January 16. More, it seems the game comes with a free remix CD. Yipee!
Not a long list this week either, but the notable titles are really notable. The Lord of the Rings: Conquest has been getting a nice bit of hype; see if it lives up on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 or DS. The DS sci-fi adventure Moon comes out too -- check out Tainted's take on the game on his blog over here. Finally, there's the first-person parkour game most of us know and love coming for PC: Mirror's Edge.
"In years past, NeoGAF has done their favorite moments in gaming, using only MS Paint to show you. Looking back at 2008 brings us some of the coolest moments, great memories that can look amusing to just plain epic, even when in Paint. I purposely left out the names of the games as half the fun is guessing (but if you cant figure it out, right click and hit properties to see the file name where I put the game)."
Patrick Klepek of multiplayerblog.mtv.com blogs about his unfortunate tale. He packed himself ready these Christmas holidays, he was ready to spend two weeks destroying his wrists, but he ended up doing absolutely no gaming at all! With this he poses the question, is he the only one?
"It's hard finding a trailer that sticks with you and keeps itself glued to the walls of your memories. Trailers that manage to do such a feat are easily worthy of some kind of media recognition. So in the good spirit of acknowledging awesomeness where awesomeness deserves recognition, Blend Games has proudly put together a list of the Top 10 Coolest Game Trailers of 2008. So without wasting a whole lot of words on a pointless lead-in to the list, you can check out our top ten picks for the co..."

"We're just fiending for Santa crap around this time of year so why don't more game companies take advantage of our sentimentality with special DLC? Here's five pieces of downloadable content we'd love to see next December"
"I played through dozens of games this year and tried at least a hundred more. And through them all, I experienced some amazing moments.
As I have done in years previous, here are my picks for My 10 Favorite Moments in Video Games for 2008. (As spoiler-light as I can make them.)"
"Despite the holiday season traditionally being a good time to release and establish new intellectual properties, both Mirror's Edge and Dead Space performed poorly. Marketing certainly wasn't an issue, nor were the reviews, as they both received good to decent remarks. Instead, the failure of both games is likely due to the current recession."
"No matter how you spin it, Mirror's Edge has been a flop. In an effort to boost sales, EA and DICE has announced that the Time Trial Mode in the demo that was previously exclusive to those who pre-ordered from Gamestop has been unlocked to the general public. All you have to do is head to the main menu, select "Race", then pick "Play Time Trial". When prompted, just enter any 16-digit code in order to unlock the mode.
Tme Trial Mode "challenges players to find the fastest routes throughou..."
"You've read about some of our favorite games of the year. Now it's time for the disappointments.
The games below, chosen by the usual panel of Wired.com contributors, is in no way supposed to be a list of the worst games of 2008. Those are all for the Wii, cost $10, are about dogs and/or babies, and we wouldn't be caught dead playing them. No, these are the games that let us down the most this year. Most of them are actually good games. But they failed to live up to the hype, or didn't del..."
"The game controls in a manner similar to most First-Person Shooters, although the handling of your character differs viciously depending on momentum. Red items highlight paths which will lead a player in the right direction, though far from the hand-holding such a feature may be perceived as, and navigation is rarely an issue when running at pace. Players can leap, wall-run, duck and dive with the easiest of button combinations, and the game is clearly at its best when it performs as its de..."
"Throughout December, Gamasutra will be presenting a year-end retrospective, discussing notable games, events, developers, and industry figures of 2008, from the perspective of our position covering the art, science, and business of games.
Previously, we tallied up 2008's top disappointments, downloadable titles, and overlooked games.
Next, we'll cover this year's top five gameplay mechanics (with ten other honorable mentions), calling attention to a number of innovative, novel, or part..."
"Mirrors Edge is bold game. Set in the traditional near future where The Man has taken control of just about everything and the only people who are truly free are pushed to the edge of society. Nothing particularly new or ground breaking there then."
You may recall that PhysX trailer from a couple of weeks ago which shows the technology the PC version of Mirror's Edge is capable of utilizing. Well, a comparison video now online should give you a better idea of whether or not to upgrade, if you were thinking about it. Video at the source.
Some rumors were floating around concerning the PS3 version of Mirror's Edge a few months ago. Everything from it being a timed exclusive to getting its own downloadable content only on the console there were plenty of them. While the first is obviously false the latter appears to have had the grain of truth, DICE are developing a Time Attack course specifically for the PS3, a video is at the source if you want a glimpse.
"With such speedy DLC coming for Mirror's Edge, I can't help but think this content was probably done and ready to be pressed onto the disc only to be held back to ensure EA gets ten more bucks out of the people who bought this title. However, when I watch the video I sort of forget these thoughts and move onto new thoughts of "When will the a-hole who rented this from my local Blockbuster return this game already!?""
If you have been behind in the Mirror's Edge news lately, you may not have seen the above picture. On the left is an image of Faith from the game, on the right is an edited interpretation of what a fan believes Faith would look like if she was made to appeal to Easterners.
When EA's Tom Farrer was sent the edited picture of Faith, he wasn't pleased at all, responding with: "We wanted her to be attractive, but we didnt want her to be a supermodel... It was just kind of depressing that some...
This week Yahtzee takes a look at the newest free running craze that has recently hit the Xbox360, PC and PS3. What does Yahtzee have up his sleeves to say about this game then?
"Does "Rock Band" mastermind Alex Rigopulos see a cascade of colored lights in his sleep?
Does "Gears of War" creator Cliff Bleszinski hear snoring that makes him dream hes wielding a Lancer chainsaw?
Does "Burnout" architect Alex Ward dream that his car has flipped?
Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, Patrick and I asked a few game developers how their work in the gaming industry affects their dreams. We heard back from creators behind "Fable II," "Mirror's Edge" and "Alone In The..."
"To be honest, my initial interest in Mirror's Edge came from the first trailer, in which we get to see Faith in all her glory. I exclaimed, "Wow! She looks amazing! Totally different!"
She is beautiful, I thought. And so I fell in love with Faith Conners before I even knew her. Truly, and it's a strange kind of love that I doubt most of you could possibly understand. Some of that love might have been for DICE as well, the very people who dreamed this woman into existence.
Over tim..."
OXCGN writers (2 reviews for the price of one) have a look at DICE's latest outing - Mirror's Edge. Check out both reviews and see their thoughts on the game.
From my side of the fence, the game adds some stunning visuals and game play, but is this shared by many gamers, or do they want the same-old-same-old still?
You be the judge, pop over and check the reviews out now.

The Guardian's Keith Stuart takes a look at the flaws in professional reviews of games, using Mirror's Edge as an example. Stuart believes that reviewers spend too much time critisising the "niggling details" of a game, rather than looking at the game from a broader perspective.
Because, if it were a movie, Mirrors Edge would be critically lauded by the specialist film press it would be considered a forward-thinking masterpiece. says Stuart.

Earlier in the week, NVIDIA sent out a trailer for the PC edition of Mirror's Edge which shows off the PhysX hardware acceleration technology which can be used with the game, and you can see it below, though it's recommended you head to the source and fullscreen it. For more information on the tech and how it will affect the game, check out this article (also over on Neoseeker).
We can presume this is the reason for the gap between the console versions and this one -- good to see DICE putt...
Videogamer.com has a really nice Mirror's Edge video review up on their website, which you can view through the source (be sure to watch it in HD if you can). They give the game a high score, and while noting its short story length, they say it's certainly not the be all and end all of the game as there are many ways to find replayability. More, they call it a highly original and refreshing experience, and can't wait for the sequel.
""Mirror's Edge is definitely an odd beast. Not only does it persuade gamers to use their mind, it asks them to avoid conflict and violence in pursuit of running away from the action. Can gamers truly be convinced to drop their guns and exit stage left when the bullets begin flying?""
"We’ve found the real-life Faith. Or two.
While searching through Getty Images’ database, we stumbled upon pictures of models dressed up as the parkouring protagonist. They were taken at a “Mirror’s Edge” launch event held in Milan, Italy last week.

With EA's latest game, Mirrors Edge being played on TV's all across the world the verdict is good.
If you want even more Mirrors Edge / Faith goodness, Brad Borne of Borne Games has teamed up with EA to give us a 2D Flash version of Mirrors Edge.
This is only the beta but rest assure that the full game will be out soon, scheduled to be released in 1-2 weeks. The full version will be complete with leader boards for the top Runners so you can compete with your friends.
"Mirrors Edge hurdles forward with such breakneck speed that when it comes time to slow and gasp for air, the sharp edges and sleek lines are unravelled by the in-betweens. Skimming the rooftops of an eerily pristine cityscape is proof of developer DICEs concept, without a shadow of a doubt. Always propelling the experience forward, the swift sense of speed and flow of first-person platforming relies on the possibility of freedom within linear environments. But that forward thrust has to bre..."

Remember when Sony was asked what they thought of DLC and SCEE responded "nothing is ever exclusive"? Well I don't think this was what they were talking about. Either way it seems there's DLC coming to both platforms. A spokesperson told GameCyte that "its downloadable content for both systems". If by some chance the PS3 does end up getting exclusive DLC, be assured DLC in itself will not be exclusive.
GCHD has posted breaking news regarding new storyline details for Mirror's Edge. Scattered throughout the world are numerous hidden messages, that when linked together, tell the story of underground society known only as "November". EA DICE revealed to GCHD that dozens of signs are waiting to be discovered, though many of the locations are still unknown. The linked article shows two examples of what to expect. Could it be that the storyline in Mirror's Edge isn't as lackluster as we thought?
"Utopia always seems like a great idea until you realize that its actually being run by a freedom-hating Establishment who wants you to be content only as long as it doesnt interfere with their plans. It doesnt even matter what those plans are, especially since the folks in charge arent talking. Just make a point of not getting in the way.
The city constructed by EAs Digital Illusions CE studio for Mirrors Edge is just such a false utopia. It is a place where information is suppre..."
"Mirror's Edge is set in an immaculate city ripped right from the pages of Orwell's 1984. The government now controls every aspect of daily life, and the city's residents have long since given in to the comfortable yet stifled way of living. As such, people known as Runners have found their niche by transporting documents and packages. These fashionably attuned courriers navigate a complex system of conduits and runways, comprised of city skyscrapers to industrial storm drains. While their..."

Well its doing pretty good right now recieving a couple 9's, a bunch of 8-8.9 and two 7's. IGN and gamestop gave it a low 7 score, which is currently the lowest score it has recieved.
Average score= 81/100

EA has announced downloadable content (DLC) for Mirror's Edge will be arriving "at the beginning of [2009]". Previously announced to be exclusive to the PlayStation Store, the press release isn't clear on whether or not this is still true, and only says "more details to be announced shortly."
And if you didn't know already, the PC version is due in January -- on the 6th, according to GameStop.
If you have been fallowing Mirror's Edge you would now that they use some very beautifull music in their game. While the full soundtrack is set to release alongside with the game on Itunes, DICE has released, I guess you can say a sample of the soundtrack. And don't worry it's fully legal. Head on over to download the .zip file.
"The upcoming Mirror's Edge is one of the most original-looking titles to come out of the new-style quality-driven Electronic Arts since the company's creative realignment is announced. It was developed by its DICE studio in Sweden, which is best (and, at this juncture, almost exclusively) known for its Battlefield series of shooters.
What drove the creative philosophy of this game? The visuals and gameplay are a departure from the grittiness and combat-focused world of those games.

Do you need to know Mirror Edge's exact time before it launches? CVG has put up a nifty website that has a pretty cool countdown clock for you to look at, as well as the information that is being revealed heading towards the release.

Mirror's Edge is getting closer and closer to its final release date (Nov. 13th NA) and there is some brand new, never before seen, gameplay footage. What it seems to show off a mini boss of some sort. The scenes are cut so it is hard to tell how long the fight might take. And in the end it also shows off Faith escaping into the subway.
"Mirror's Edge isn't just a shooter. It's actually a sort of anti-shooter. Only with guns. It takes the basic shape and feel of an FPS, but then ditches the focus on destruction and fury and instead goes for elegance and style - and still does guns really well, when it feels like it.
You're Faith, resident of an ominously sanitised near-future city. But the arctic cleanliness masks political corruption and police brutality. Criminals and dissidents have been pushed underground, resulting ..."
There has been some concern about the length of this game. Some people are even deciding the purchase upon the length. Well EA has confirmed that the game will take about 12 hours to complete the story line for normal players. So how long is that for hardcore players? Hopefully there is more difficulties, and not to mention the time trail mode should add replay value.
The demo for the game was released just a week ago and has seemed to spark the interest of many due to it's unique gameplay style and locale.
With the game to be released in less than a weeks time, it'll be good news for all to know that the game has now gone gold, and with the gold status, we've also got a new release trailer for the game which can be found below.
As far as I can tell, EA DICE haven't done many interviews regarding Mirror's Edge. Of course, playing hard to get just makes me want you more, darling. Anyhow, Kikizo has an interview up with one of the producers, Manuel Llanes. I find the writing extraneously fancy, but once you get past that, it's a good read.
If that don't quench your fix, head over to Neoseeker for a look inside the game's non-violent gameplay approach.
Faith from Mirror's Edge is a character that stands out in the gaming world. Not because she is unnaturally beautiful or scantily clad, but because she is realistic. She has a face that you could see while walking down the street (barring the tattoos of course) and clothing that could be picked up at your local sports store.
But is this what gamers want to see? Do they prefer realism over style?
When an artist recently edited a picture of Faith to make her fit into what he called "Asia...
Its been posted on the Mirrors Edge site that the demo of Mirrors Edge his heading to both the Playstation Network and Xbox LIVE on the 30th and 31st October (respectively). The demo will feature a prelude to the story of the game, a short tutorial to give you a feel for things and then a nice segment of the singleplayer story mode.
EA have become famous for making sports games, licensed games and rehashed sequels after sequels. Well EA knows that, and they plan on doing something about it. They are trying to change their image by bringing out new IP's such as Dead Space, Mirror's Edge and Spore. This is quite a good business strategy, but you have a long time to get to your goal EA.
"EA is apparently pretty pleased with their upcoming action adventure game Mirror's Edge. The game's not in stores yet but they're already thinking sequels - two sequels, to be exact."
Mirror's Edge will be getting a demo for PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 6th, less than a week before the full version of the title releases. A PC version is planned for later in the year.
Three new videos have been unvieled by Electronic Arts for their upcoming game Mirror's Edge. The three levels available to be seen are:
Check the alternate sources for the other two videos, and take a look below for the screenshots.
If you have been fallowing Mirror's Edge, then you most likely have seen this trailer. It features some very beautiful and aw-inspiring music. Well DICE as announced that they will be releasing a digital album on the same day with many remixes of the theme song. Also if you pre-order the game at Best Buy, you get a free music CD that has a the theme song and an exclusive remix only available by pre-order.
Don't want to wait until November 11th? Well a person name Alcorus has made a remix ...
"I should point out that these are the top five games that have the most potential for being Halo, GTA IV and KillZone Killers via marketing, community support, critical praise and sales. It's possible any one of these titles could be as controversial as GTA IV, or as supported as KillZone 2, or as long lasting in popularity as Halo 3."
"While browsing Gamestop.com, I noticed that there was a bonus feature. If you reserve Mirror’s Edge then Gamestop gives you a code for the demo. Now get this. Gamestop then writes this…
Special Note: Mirrors Edge Demo will be available for download November 6.
Finally it looks like we know when the demo will be released after this big fiasco with people thinking that the demo was being released about 2 days ago."
Pelaajalehti.com recently held a poll for their people to decide the most beautiful video games of all time. Not all of the top ten received a warm welcome, with people believing many voters just chose their favourite or latest hype as opposed to the most beautiful games.
Is it your top ten?
"Electronic Arts have been rather generous with Mirror's Edge of late. Officially revealing new gameplay footage as well as announcing a demo for XboxLIVE! Marketplace and PLAYSTATION Network, and now, Faith City. Released for the European audience late last night, Faith City is an animated teaser trailer setting the scene for the game.
Opening to a pan of the clean-cut cityscape, after the complimentary Mirror's Edge styled Splash Screens, a narration begins to tell the tale as Faith - our..."
EA and Timbuk2, a bag making company based off of San Francisco, have reached a deal that will package a Mirror's Edge labeled bag along with the game for $130.

Games like Grand Theft Auto and Okami even Cooking Mama became hits for being a different style game. Well DICE the marketing director of Mirrors Edge is expecting this game to become a hit and sell 3 million just for being a different style game.
Well its always good to be an optimist but saying its going to sell 3 million just because its "Different" is being a little to confident if you ask me.
1up takes a peek into EA's latest upcoming game, Mirrors Edge. Rather than the typical preview style often found they list off a "10 things you didn't know" feature list.
You may know some of these things already if you've been keeping up with Mirrors Edge but I'm sure at least one of the points may be new to you!
"We got in touch with our friends over at DICE today, and it can now be confirmed that their upcoming title, Mirror's Edge, has got trophies. This will come as a welcome relief to many PS3 owners as some thought the system would only be implemented properly as of 2009. Now however, we can look forward to a host of titles coming at Christmas for our trophy needs."
A little confusion has been rumbling around the web lately, with some reports saying that the Mirror's Edge demo would be coming out September 26th.
Unfortunately, they were wrong. EA has told PlayStation Beyond that it is not true.
Coming from developer DICE, Mirror's Edge will hit North American stores on November the 11th and European stores on November the 14th for both PS3 and XBOX360. A demo has also been detailed, which will be hitting Xbox Live and PSN ahead of the November release. Fans who pre-order the game will also receive access to an exclusive Time Trial mode of the demo too.
"Retail web sites like Gamestop are now showing the PC port of the game as shipping on January 6, 2009. We also got a tip from our reader "Trog" who told us his pre-order for the PC version on Amazon has also changed to the same date. Last week we contacted EA's PR rep for Mirror's Edge who told us, "We haven't officially announced the ship date for Mirror's Edge. All that's been stated is a winter ship release window." That same rep said to expect an official release date "soon" so for the mo..."
Christmas is almost around the corner, and as with every Christmas, the best games are looking to be released in time for parents to go out and buy their kids games. However, GamerChip who previously stated that there may be too many games being released for christmas, have now put together a list of games that they think will succeed and some that they believe will fail. Lets take a look at a few of them...
CESA has released a first list of games [PDF] that will be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show that will be held from October 9, 2008 to October 12, 2008. As per tradition, this is only the first of multiple lists that will be released by the organization for the games that will appear at TGS 2008. A full list of the notable games can be seen in the quote and at the source.
There will be 462 titles at the show, broken up thusly:

The Exploding Barrel was at the PAX located in Washington, checked out a few games, decided to talk about them: LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, and others!
LittleBigPlanet really impressed everyone. TEB notes that the game gives you so much options when designing your levels that it's unbelievable. You can make fiery pits of doom or turn a ordinary car into a rocket! LBP could be one of the first games on the consoles that has quality user-created content.
Next up is SOCOM: Confr...
There was a bit of confusion a while back about Mirror's Edge being said to be a timed PS3 exclusive and now we have got the facts. Apparently this rumor was a result of mistranslation and what was actually meant to be said was that the PS3 would be getting downloadable content only available on the Playstation Store. No word yet on whether the other consoles would be getting their own exclusive content.
"
Were you entranced by the E3 footage of DICE's highly acrobatic action-platformer Mirror's Edge, but wished you could have seen more of the title's totalitarian cityscape? A recent developer walkthrough, showcased yesterday at PAX, might be right up your alley, over your catwalk, and onto your adjacent roof. Pop some Dramamine, then check out the video after the break to see some of the more unconventional tactics one can use to deliver a package. We just wish our trusty FedEx guy cou..."
"Wow, the biggest rumor to come out of GC 2008 is that Mirrors Edge will be a timed PS3 exclusive. I dont quite know how to classify this story, as either a rumor or confirmation of sorts. The reason why is pretty convoluted, details after the jump.
According to German site Heise Online, in a special GC 2008 Leipzig interview with Dave Reeves, big boss of Sony Europe. Mirrors Edge will be a PS3 exclusive game for this year and will be coming out next year for PC and Xbox 360. This is big ..."
From the Games Convention in Leipzig comes some b-roll footage of the Stormdrains level in the upcoming game Mirror's Edge, which is included with added impressions of the game. This three minute video really shows the open environment and the graphics within the game.
Check the video at the source.
The Game Critics have announced their E3 2008 awards for this year and there are some pretty interesting winners, with Fallout 3 taking the "Best of Show" award, Mirror's Edge taking "Best Original Game", and LittleBigPlanet getting the "Best Console Game" award. Portal version
Mirror's Edge demo
Forgoing parkour in favor of teleportation, an inspired modder by the nom de éditeur of EvilWeevil has created a 1:1 replica of the Mirror's Edge demo level from E3 (or, if you'd rather, the initial gameplay footage of DICE's first-person platformer) using Valve's smash action-puzzler, Portal.
As you can see in the video, there's no fancy climbing, leaping, balancing, or zipline action this mod is all about using the portal gun to reach t..."

"Earlier today, Electronic Arts announced that they signed a deal with United Talent Agency (UTA) to develop a comprehensive strategy for moving its intellectual property into the realm of large-budget motion pictures and television series.
No confirmation of a movie or television show based off of Mirrors Edge has been announced, but many gamers (including most of the staff here) have been eagerly anticipating Mirrors Edge since it was announced earlier this year."
So admittedly, E3 2008 was a disappointment for all this year, but that isn't to say that there weren't some great games on show. Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 all made an appearance, but was it enough for them to claim the title of Best of E3 ?
Here is the E3 2008 trailer for the gorgeous-looking Mirror's Edge...
In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.
"Mirror's Edge looks great. And the "first-person running-jumping-sliding-kicking-shooting" gameplay is certainly novel and different. This morning, I checked out the E3 build, which looked, well, great. But...while watching the dev show off the game, I seriously started to feel ill. Really, really ill. I've never gotten motion sick from a game, and I got it pretty bad while checking out Mirror's Edge. Like to the point of breaking out in a cold sweat and feeling rather green. Actually playing..."

EA3 Interview.
Learn about linearity, Faith's back story and balancing simple controls versus skill based gameplay.
For more info, check out the story trailer."
"Mirror's Edge, from the makers of the Battlefield series, is described as a first-person parkour-inspired action adventure game. We were still wrapping our head around that game-describing mouthful when DICE unleashed a brand new trailer, showing for the first time in-game footage in full flow. With the athletic Faith's exploits fresh in mind, we caught up with DICE's general manager Sean Decker following his presentation to media at Sony's recent PlayStation Day in London to dig a little dee..."
