All Call of Duty veterans know that although the game can be exciting and thrilling to play at times, it can be head-through-a-wall frustrating at other times. Gamefront have compiled a list of the top 10 most annoying things about Call of Duty online multiplayer. Do you agree or disagree?
Damn camper noobs.
IGN are celebrating the recent announcement of the multiplayer details of Call of Duty: Ghosts, with a superb video which takes us back through a decade in which Call of Duty has been one of the most popular series, if not the most popular game series. Relive your favourite Call of Duty moments with this brilliant video.
The latest details by the truckload on upcoming, new spin-off Call of Duty: Ghosts (set to replace the expected Modern Warfare 4) will feature a number of new single player and multiplayer advancements. RealGamerNewz brings you all of them right here in this report, original source is included as well which comes directly from inside Activision's camp allegedly.
"I'm beginning to think Microsoft doesn't understand how to handle sales. Day four of the Xbox LIVE Ultimate Game Sale sees a slew of Call of Duty titles discounted. Though I'm hard-pressed to call it a "sale." It's more like an adjustment to where these games should cost -- and even then it's overpriced."
In the return of Jon Ireson's opinion-based articles, RealGamerNewz takes a moment to analyze the Top 5 'WTF?' Moments in Gaming Innovation this Generation (based on this particular author's experiences and opinions). Take a look, you may be surprised how much you agree with him.
Sequels are the game that tend to make the most money in this industry, so it is pretty much expected that every big game will get one or more sequels. It can be great when a sequel turns out as good or better than the original, but it can be devastating when it doesn't. These 10 games didn't to live up to the quality of their predecessors, and failed to meet fans' high expectations.
This hot news story comes off the shelf and is brought to you once again by your friends at RealGamerNewz.com. Love games? Love seeing games evolve? Well so does Robert Bowling, who knew. After leaving Call of Duty and his title at Infinity Ward as the Modern Warfare Community Manager, Bowling lets us in on the vision behind his latest project - a brand new Game Development Studio (and an original IP universe to go with it).
I really don't mean to be a Call of Duty nazi today, these articles are just falling down today!
I don't think it will decline but I can imagine it not making as much profit as it has done with previous releases. The problem is, they release too many of the games with very few changes, demanding people to spend a heap load of money on DLC as well during the year. Feel free to voice your opinions.
The call of duty video games introduced Prestige mode with emblems titles and other unlocks. every game they have changed the amount of score needed to prestige and the amount of times you can prestige. we have full details on all the changes the pro and cons and much more.
"Today is leap day, an event that only happens once every four years. It gives the masses a special opportunity to enjoy one more day of life for the year. Lets be honest, though. Do we ever take full advantage of the day or is it treated like any other day? Unfortunately, as gamers we need as many extra days as we can get. We’ve seen hours turn into days while trying to beat just one level of a game, and all of the character deaths act as wasted time in the pursuit of beating that one stage. ..."
Collector's Editions have become the norm this gaming generation. Everything from RPGS to FPS games, everything has a CE these days. The question is do gamers really want collector's editions? If they truly do then what needs to be in the CE to make it sell and worth the $80-$100 gamers are forced to shell out.
Gamestop has a decent deal sale right now 30% off used ps3/360 shooters. Games on sale include Halo Reach, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Homefront, Gears of War 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Socom 4, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 and plenty of other great games. Best of all most of these games are between $3-$20.
The Call of Duty video game series has changed the way people think about the entertainment business. Avatar made $232 million globally in its first five days of release. Call Of Duty: Black Ops made $650 million. An infographic on GNVR gives us an visual look full of details showing us just how big the Call of Duty video game franchise really is.
"There’s something about certain games that naturally draw me in. This is considerably easier with any sort of RPG that involves decisions and progression that allow you to influence not only your character, but the actual game itself. I’ve spent so much time with these games because I’m able to make the character my own, affect the environment, and play the game almost exactly how I want to play it."
"Fans of the Call of Duty franchise only have a few more weeks until they can get their hands on the third entry into the highly-popular Modern Warfare series. In the meantime, players can use any of the Call of Duty games released since the original Modern Warfare to earn a prestige token for use in Modern Warfare 3. Check out the details below."
"EB Expo 2011 may be gone and part of history, but we at OXCGN have still got a few morsels to contribute about the event.
Unlike more professional events such as E3 and Gamescom, EB Expo was quite laid back and encouraged cosplay.
Characters from Halo to Ghostbusters were on the scene, and OXCGN tried to capture as many as possible.
If anything, marvel at the sheer amount of effort these people went through to get these costumes usable!"
"Call of Duty XP (to celebrate the upcoming release of Modern Warfare 3 maybe) has come and gone, and for a first time event focusing on a big game franchise, Activision really hit this one out of the park. The company spared no expense in making sure its attendees had a swell time doing a number of things, mainly playing Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer but also taking part in other activities (lots of physical activities); we list the best reasons, and leave off some of the bad ones after the ..."

"For this top 10 list I have decided to countdown my 10 favorite video game heroes. These characters earn a spot on this list by being courageous, daring, strong, skilled, smart, or any combination of those that make them shine above the crowd. These characters are vital to the survival of numerous people and they are the best at what they do. I’ve only included characters from games that I have personally played. Here’s my 10 favorite video game heroes:"
A nation known as a peaceful bastion of liberalism exploded in a convulsion of sheer hatred. After a terror attack with a bomb and shooting video games are taking heat after the person that did it said he played games like world at war and used games like modern warfare 2 as a training tool. Now some of the largest retailer are removing these games from there store shelf's due to a large backlash.
"U.S. Supreme Court that a California law banning the sale of violent video games to kids went too far is just the latest in a long string of headline-grabbing moments in gaming history. Unfortunately, at least as far as mainstream audiences are concerned, those headlines often center around violence in video games, particularly focusing on how that violence affects children. Read the full story for more."
Well everyone it has happened again. A person acting alone has done a major crime only to have the blame passed on to media entertainment. After a terror attack in Norway games like dragon age, bioshock and Modern Warfare 2 are taking heat for the event. This is not new when school shootings or other major crimes happen people look for someone to blame besides the person.
"COD is a bit of a fishy beast. In theory, a game that remains the same year in, year out with only minimal upgrades and some new levels shouldn’t do well. It should probably be instead a fond memory, drifting in the breeze and whispered only in passing by those who still recall the good times they had with the product. The exact same thing recently happened with Guitar Hero; after years of stagnant gameplay that did absolutely nothing to innovate, the franchise itself has been put indefinitel..."
Activision has recently brought up their monthly subscription fee service for Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 in the Call of Duty service and is pricing out what enhancements will be charged and which will be free. Overall, what is the impact this has on the game industry and shooter genre?
"Osama Bin Laden was killed this week and to mark the occasion, a list of the Top 5 assassinations in modern day shooters has been compiled. The list takes into account who gets killed, how they get killed, and how cool it was to kill them. When I put it like that it sounds a bit demented, but if you’ve played through these games, you know how awesome the moments are. This list does contain spoilers, so reader beware. With that in mind, read on to see if your favorite assassination has landed ..."
"Robert Bowling, the Infinity Ward Creative Strategist has said that “building a new engine for the Call of Duty franchise “would be counter productive”.”
Like you, I’ve watched and watched again the Battlefield 3 in-game trailer, compared what antialiasing means for the Forstbite 2 engine and appreciated the quality of an upcoming FPS such as Crysis 2. I must say Robert Bowling words make me think of a joke, at first!"
Call of Duty is a franchise that, much like the Guitar Hero franchise Activision has just killed off, has been accused day in and day out by gamers of being milked. Here's my in-depth analysis on how and why I believe Call of Duty will meet the same fate in due time.
"If you're a PlayStation 3 owner or even a follower of the latest gaming news, then it is likely you have heard of George "Geohot" Hotz. While his actions are nothing new in the world of technology, he has garnered a lot of attention by hacking into a system that had been previously thought to have been impenetrable. To counter his releasing of the PlayStation 3's root key, Sony has mandated a firmware update to patch up the security holes that he uncovered. Console owners have given mixed res..."
"It’s been a wonderful and sometimes bumpy ride for Microsoft with their Xbox 360 console. Improving in areas that they were weak with the original Xbox, Microsoft has pushed forward and continued to work closely to secure third-party publishing deals to keep their fans happy. It’s no surprise that our Top 10 Xbox 360 Games Since Launch is dominated by third-party software."
"Curb your Call of Duty hatred: the series, even at its lowest points, is head and shoulders above most FPS on the market. With the critical success of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Treyarch made up for some of their past disappointments and proved that CoD would live on past the Infinity Ward debacle. With Activision planning on trudging ahead with a yearly schedule, rumors are once again pointing towards the next game, developed by Sledgehammer Games, being set many years (and miles) beyond previ..."
"Overall, the Call of Duty franchise has made lasting effects on the FPS realm. They have had a massive variety of features created and then copied by other games. Sadly, one of those is dedicated servers. It is a sad day whenever I see a PC game actually advertise dedicated servers on the back of the box."
"Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 may have been a smashing success, but it has also become a paradise for players looking to exploit online multiplayer games. Although Javelin glitches and leaderboard tampering may have seemed like world-ending catastrophes at the time, these are minuscule compared to how broken the game is now on the PlayStation Network."
"Many conservatives are vocalizing their hopes that the newly empowered Republicans tackle the issue of video game regulation. But perhaps they wouldn't be so quick to villainize gaming if they checked out these games and their underlying conservative messages."
"In this day and age $60 gets you a game that may or may not even run coming out of the box and a lot of you know exactly what game I’m talking about. It makes you question, who really wants to buy the next game in the series if they seem to be getting worse for wear when it comes to functionality in the annual outings?"
Since Infinity Ward is making Modern Warfare 3, it will probably build off the framework established by Modern Warfare 2. MW2, however, was a game riddled with campers and mechanical imbalances online. Here is a list of various features that should be changed in MW3 to make it better than the previous Modern Warfare game.
"It fills your living room with plastic tat, fills the games market to saturation point and features gameplay in which the controller feels more like an obstacle to immersion than a conduit between you and the game on the screen. Of course all these charges could be levelled at any game in the Guitar Hero or Rock Band series, but for sheer disappointment Guitar Hero II steps forward on behalf of its fellows to take the award.
Contrast the endless series of heavy metal peaks on the soundtrac..."
MW2 was loved by so many people, but a good portion of people were also disappointed by its likeness to COD4, Activision has even gone as far as to suggest that the game was a sabotage of the COD franchise. Now with Respawn Entertainment moving forward from the shadow of this quasi-accomplishment, what will this reputation do to the future of the company run by the creators of COD?
"I am somewhat of an achievement whore. Or I was. Or maybe I still am. I’m not so sure. Either way, when Microsoft introduced the world to the Xbox 360 in 2005, they unknowingly (or knowingly?) introduced a new addiction to the gaming population. That addiction is the stupidly simple concept of achievements. By playing games, people can get rewarded for doing certain things such as beating a level on hard or getting X number of kills with a particular weapon. The reward itself is nothing but a..."
"Maybe that’s just an opinion, but I can almost guarantee that Modern Warfare 2 wouldn’t be as popular if it didn’t give people the opportunity to rank up and complete challenges to advance their character. Everyone is always talking about unlocking Fall camo for their Intervention, or about finally completing the last SCAR challenge. And what did these people get? Satisfaction. That word represents the one positive thing about ranking up in games."
"I'm sure we've all seen those YouTube videos of 13-year-old "prodigies" showing off their "amazing" 2-kill streaks in Modern Warfare 2 like they're the best gamer to ever grace Xbox Live. One gamer, inspired by a video he saw a while back, decided to try his hand on a popular stunt to get the Internet to recognize his skills the world over. Let's just say it worked...but not as he intended."
Having seen the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Chris Morris reflects upon recent events and poses the question: Where does Cal of Duty go from here? Discussing Infinity Ward and Modern Warfare 3, he takes a look at what we can expect from next year onward for the series.
"I don’t have any doubt that the talented teams behind both games will be able to continue coming up with great gameplay scenarios, engaging combat puzzles and thrilling scripted moments that make military shooters so much fun. It’s the settings that could become an issue – now that both WWII franchises have become modern day shooters, where do they go from here?"
"Competitive players, including those that dabble in the holy grail of shooters known as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, usually top out their controller sensitivity at 4. However, with a little patience, users of the Split Fish can max out their sensitivity settings and still be comfortable with their settings."
According to Raptr, a social network that tracks numerous pieces of gameplay data, Halo: Reach was the top played title of September, doubling the amount of people who played Modern Warfare 2 in the same period. 2 million players played the Bungie's final Halo game compared to 900,000 for Modern Warfare 2.
According to a new report released today by Raptr, Halo: Reach has dethroned Modern Warfare 2 as the most played game on the Xbox 360. Modern Warfare 2 was previously at the top of the list for 10 months. Raptr's new Halo: Reach report and infographic also includes fascinating Halo: Reach facts and figures such as the amount of people who have beaten the game in its first week of launch and the top 10 games Halo: Reach stole playtime from on the Xbox 360.
Anyone with a car and passengers has had that conversation where the back seat (or front passenger seat) driver insists you pull over and ask someone for directions. It always happens.
Well apparently video games, namely shooters, improve decion making and ultimately make you a better driver who is less likely to get lost with that irritating cargo.
CoD fans with partners rejoice! Oh wai...
"When hackers get a hold of FPSs, they ruin the game by having more control over their environment than those players who follow the rules. They can give themselves buffs or advantages without working or earning these bonuses. They can get unlimited weapons and ammunition and can go on killing rampages that others cannot do because of the limitations in the game. While the non-hacking players are doing what they are supposed to, the hackers are gaining all the experience and controlling the en..."
"Seems like a huge glitch has touched Modern Warfare 2. A few weeks ago, Activision released a single player demo, 9 months after the full game was launched. It’s available on Xbox Live and PSN. The demo was destined to convert the few who have not purchased the game yet. You can play Cliffhanger from its start until its end."
"Raptr, which formally announced its social gaming network last month, has issued its first Raptr Industry Trends Report, which takes a look at the impact EA Sports' Madden NFL 11 launch is having on other games and how it stacks up against the previous Madden."
While speaking to GTTV, Greg Goodrich, Medal of Honor's Executive Producer, says "The key differentiator between his game and Modern Warfare is greater realism and plausibility."
Could this mean he is trying to make his game more plausible and realistic than the Call of Duty titles?
"5. Vending Machine Trapper - BioShock 2
This one barely made the list for two reasons - it was obviously a significant part of the game and BioShock 2 didn’t host the most popular multiplayer experience. However, nothing was more frustrating than running up to a vending machine to refill on Eve or Ammo only to be greeted by a laughing clown and a bomb in the family jewels. You could freeze the traps but almost never thought to do so. Yes, there was a big blinking red light but it was hard ..."
"Over the past few years, I see an ongoing trend. Games (and the developers behind them) are starting to lose focus, and their sight is being blurred out by the prospect of money (Activision is a primary example, but all companies want your money, regardless of their greedy CEO's). A growing problem is the amount of generic FPS clones out there that we can attribute to a certain franchise called Call of Duty."
"Outside of MMORPGs and Xbox LIVE, playing games online has been a relatively free experience that gamers have grown accustomed to enjoying. Now that appears to be changing with EA introducing initiatives like Project Ten Dollar and comments from the CEO of Activision wishing for a subscription fee for Call of Duty. Wedbush Analyst Michael Pachter has also been calling for publishers to move towards subscription-based online gaming as well and now he says, "Gamers, used game purchasers and n..."
"Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has recently made the statement that, “The Call of Duty franchise is a force of nature. I think it is the closest thing this generation has to a Star Wars. I think it’s unique and bigger than any musical act or any movie franchise in that capacity.” While we appreciate Mr. Kotick’s enthusiasm for his product, we don’t believe there’s been a game that has come close to the cultural impact that Star Wars had when it was released in 1977. However, we humbly submit fiv..."
"The deals this week are gift card heavy as both Target and Toys R Us are offering gift cards with the purchase of select games for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Meanwhile, GameStop kicks off their Power Saver Sale where you can get 10-50% off of select titles and free shipping. And, if you're looking for a new Xbox 360, K-Mart has a pretty good deal on a new Xbox 360 and Transformers: War for Cybertron."
"We’ve waited for it and it’s now finally live! The 2nd Map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the Resurgence Pack is live on PC and PS3! You can purchase the pack on Steam or on your PSN. The Pack arrived last month on Xbox 360 (I can’t believe how long it was to get the pack on PC and PS3…)."
"The day has finally come for PC owners as the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Map Pack is available for purchase on Steam. The pack of five new maps came out last month for the Xbox 360 but PC and PS3 owners had to wait which looks like it will be the new norm going forward with Activision over the next couple of years."
"A Happy 4th of July holiday means not a whole lot in the way of game releases. As a result, we don't even have a handful of new games this week but we do get plenty of explosions between the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "Resurgence Pack" and Crackdown 2. There is also Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 for PSP RPG lovers."
"With game sales lagging and gamers extending their playtime with their favorite titles by playing online, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachtersees mega-publisher Activision finding a way to get money out of gamers spending tons of hours with games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."
"Have you ever wanted to voice your opinions about a game right to the developers themselves? If you have then Infinity Ward is giving you that opportunity. Recently tweeted by Creative Strategist Robert Bowling, gamers can now call or text this number (402) 500-0119 to give feedback, ask questions or just rant about IW and their games. If you decide to call you’ll be greeted with a voice message from Mr. Bowling himself. This is obviously an attempt to improve the image of IW/Activision. The..."
"The "Resurgence Pack" for Activision's and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is finally up and available on Xbox LIVE. The second map pack for the smash hit features three new maps and two revamped maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The map pack is 1200 MS Points ($15)."
"Infinity Ward originally planned back to back Double XP weekends for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to celebrate the release of the new "Resurgence Pack" on Xbox LIVE on Thursday, June 3. Instead they've "flipped the switch" to enable the two times experience bonus during the week and through the weekend until Monday, June 7."
"But Infinity Ward are shedding staff like nobody's business - and the MW franchise is 'damaged', according to rival EA. Who better to save the Modern Warfare series from oblivion than the most celebrated FPS developer in the world?
Bungie and Activision are bosom buddies - and it's not as if the publisher doesn't have the money and power to (a) Increase Bungie's headcount so it can work on two projects and (b) Change the Washington-based firm's mentality of concentrating solely on one IP."
"Activision revealed earlier this year that newly-formed Sledgehammer Games will develop a spin-off Call of Duty title, rumored to be a third-person shooter. When asked if it was possible two Call of Duty titles could be released in 2011 and if the company was worried about diluting the market, Tippl wouldn't clarify, only saying that Activision has set high standards for its titles."
"Activision announced the second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map pack in a very brief press release yesterday with very little in the way of detail. We expected the Resurgence Pack to be a repeat of the successful Stimulus Package formula with five new multiplayer maps (with two of those being revamps of Call of Duty 4 maps) and a price of $15. According to an interview with Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, that expectation was completely accurate."
"Raven Software, the developer of sci-fi shooters Wolfenstein and the recently completed Singularity, has been pulled off its current projects and may be the latest studio to pick up the Call of Duty slack, according to a source close to the studio. Kotaku was told that the developer has had its next game, one based on the James Bond franchise—to which Activision holds the rights—put on hold."
"Every big franchise that releases games yearly is bound to be dethroned at some point – it’s the nature of the business. Along will come a unique war game that will take the genre in fresh directions and even high-profile established franchises like Call of Duty will be forced back to the idea board for innovation. And when that happens, a peripheral bundled with the game probably won’t be the answer."
"The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 'Stimulus Package' map pack was a big hit for Infinity Ward and Activision as it racked up huge sales when it was released to the Xbox 360 and then the PC and PS3. The original plans were for two map packs and Activision confirmed today that the second map pack would be coming sometime in the second half of the year during a financial conference call today."
"Now if you’ve ever played PC games, the gap between mouse and keyboard and controllers has always been an issue. Most would say a controller will never have the precision that a mouse has. KontrolFreek have created a product for your analog sticks to improve performance and accuracy by decreasing your reaction time and increasing mobility."
"The weekly Playstation Store Update has now moved to Tuesdays and it starts off the new day with a bang. The Stimulus Package for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is finally available to PS3 owners after being exclusive to the Xbox 360 for a month. But that is not all as there is a number of good updates this week for both the PS3 and PSP."
"Xbox 360 owners have been playing Infinity Ward's Stimulus Package for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for a month now while PS3 and PC owners have had to wait on the sidelines. That will change tomorrow (5/4) however as the first piece of DLC for the hit first-person shooter is made available online."
This weeks edition of Now Shipping will plenty of Jet pack action from not one but two games. Not only can you tear up the sky's in Iron Man 2 but jet packs are now introduced by the beta that everyone has been waiting for, Halo Reach. Call of Duty stimulus is out for the PS3 as well, along with Wii titles and all. Check it out
Yup folks, Treyarch's next installment to their Call Of Duty stockpile is fixed for release this November much like Modern Warfare 2 did last year. Call Of Duty: Black Ops has yet to have been seen, so nothing is actually confirmed as of yet but speculation links it to the Vietnam conflicts.
Be sure to check gametrailers tonight for a first look at the game.
"Infinity Ward has experienced numerous defections since Activision sacked the two heads of the Call of Duty franchise. With the development of the franchise now spread across two other development groups, Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey thinks it likely that Infinity Ward will be shut down after the next Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map pack is released."
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has entered in the Guiness Book of World Records. It is the biggest entertainment launch ever.
MW2 had ain’t a doubt the biggest first-day sales presence in the entire entertainment history. It made $401 millions on day 1 and this is on this point that the game topped every other entertainment medias ever released."
"Ever since Activision announced the price of the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package, message boards and forums all over the web have exploded with complaints of how expensive it was. There was even a petition created online to try to get the price lowered. Whether it was Activision or Infinity Ward’s decision to charge such a steep price doesn’t really matter since they still sold 2.5 million downloads during the first week. So did those 2.5 million gamers get their money’s worth? Some of them..."
"Before I begin abusing Modern Warfare 2 more than an Asian hooker gets abused on a daily basis, I must let you know that I’m a huge fan of Modern Warfare 2 and the Call of Duty series as a whole. To hell with it, I’d even say that Modern Warfare 2 is one of my all-time favourite games. However, even the best of games have their problems and unfortunately Modern Warfare 2 has more problems than a paraplegic who has a bomb attached to their wheelchair. Join me as I talk through my top 10 issues..."
"According to an analyst, the Stimulus Package’s price was too low.
IGN reported an analysis which is in contradiction with the storm created by the Stimulus Package Dlc because of its price: 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360, which is $15. This price will be the same for PC and PS3. According to Jess Divnich, analyst for EEDAR, the Dlc should have cost even MORE."
"The 25 millions of gamers who play online Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have certainly heard of these glitches: the Suicide Bombing glitch, the Ice Skating Glitch or the Private Match glitch. These failures have been exploited by tons of gamers and upseted a lot of gamers."
"Noted science fiction author Robert Morgan isn't just an author who happens to be penning the script for Crysis 2. He's also an avid gamer who has his own take on the hottest game of the past year. In short, he's "immensely disappointed" by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."
"It appears that Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling was correct about the Stimulus Package DLC being priced right. Microsoft has announced that first set of DLC maps for Modern Warfare 2 achieved over 1 million sold in the first 24 hours and 2.5 million sold within the first week."
"MI6, the association dedicated to supporting marketing, promotion and advertising professionals in the videogame and interactive entertainment community, hosted a festive awards show to honour the best marketing work in the video game industry, wrapping up the action-packed fifth annual MI6 Conference. Comedian Ryan Stout hosted the evening and kept the crowd laughing. Assassin’s Creed II took home the most gold with seven MI6 Awards, including the highly competitive “Outstanding Overall Inte..."
"Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer has had quite a number of players hooked for the last couple months, myself included. So the thought of having new maps to freshen up some of the playlists is a certainly a welcome addition for most. The Stimulus Package which includes five new maps for MW2 released earlier this week adds some much needed variety to playlists, but at what cost? A steep cost in fact, weighing in at a lofty 1200 points ($15). So if you are reading this, you are most likely on the ..."
"The Stimulus Package for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launced to its share of problems last week. From the title update required to play the new maps online not getting out to the game servers getting overloaded, it was a frustrating first day for those that purchased the map pack on the day of release. Now, Microsoft is offering a free week of Xbox Live Gold as a reward for loyal Modern Warfare 2 players who purchased the Stimulus Package when it was released."
This week's The Bender sees the return of Perry, which finds the cast talking more than usual (thus this week you get an extra half hour of show for free!). Mike has Mapathy moral issues, Richard will own every shooter game ever, and James brings the only good things that came from April Fools. The much awaited for Stimulus Map Pack is here (finally) after making a dramatic entrance onto Xbox Live; possibly a clever ploy by Infinity Ward to attract even more attention to the Stimulus Pack? The Map Pack, which consists of 3 brand new maps and 2 classics from the original Modern Warfare game has been the most talked about gaming news these past few weeks due to a controversial price of 1200 Microsoft Points, especially when Modern Warfare 2’s greatest rival Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ...
"It's been one unfortunate issue after another today with Modern Warfare 2's Stimulus Package DLC. First the DLC was released but the title update needed to play the update didn't make it out the door. Microsoft got that straightened and the title update to Modern Warfare 2 is live but now demand overwhelmed the Xbox Live servers causing issues with people not only playing the game but issues with Live Marketplace transactions as well."
"Xbox Live experienced a bit of a hiccup this morning as the Stimulus Package for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released but the title update enabling online play with the new maps did not make it out. Microsoft has worked out the kinks and the title update is now live."
"I knew I should have expected the worst instead of getting my hopes up about the new Stimulus Map Pack, it is Modern Warfare 2 afterall… Here’s the story – I rush home from work, excitedly boot the 360 up, buy some more Microsoft Points followed swiftly by the Stimulus Pack, painfully wait for the 360MB file to download, load the game, playlists, click Stimulus pack. The game countdown begins, sweat now running down my face as the 6+ month wait for new maps is finally over. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Lau..."
"Infinity Ward isn't content with just releasing the "Stimulus Package" to Xbox 360 users on March 30. They are also going to give players the chance to earn double experience points, provide a title update for all platforms, and add maps to the Hardcore Headquarters Pro play list."
On this week's The Bender podcast, Intern Elissa joins James, Mike, and Richard discuss what is going on in the world of gaming and a little more. We have a 'tip of the week' (which will probably never happen again), talk a little eBay, attempt to find validity in the existence of the PSP and much more.

"First and foremost, in terms of allaying fears regarding the prospect of swiftly crumbling standards, Call of Duty would certainly be in safe hands without Infinity Ward. Activision’s increasingly dubious image aside, long-serving understudy Treyarch has carved itself a respectable reputation in the marketplace after helming three Call of Duty titles since 2005, while franchise newbie Sledgehammer isn’t without considerable promise.
Treyarch, in representing something of a dependable Obsid..."

"Activision and Infinity Ward don't want you to forget about the upcoming Stimulus Package DLC for Modern Warfare 2 so they just put out a friendly reminder with a trailer highlighting the five new maps coming to the Xbox 360 on March 30. PC and PS3 owners will have to wait until later in the year to purchase the new multi-player maps."
"Last night, the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards ceremony took place in London, with a number of shocking results. While few would argue that Batman: Arkham Asylum found itself up against some tough competition for the coveted Game of the Year award, the fact that Rocksteady Studios walked away with the award will certainly be a boon to UK videogame development. However, another winner is now going to be a benefit to the UK’s gaming public, as the UK’s largest high street videogames re..."
The latest podcast from the Distributed Failure crew. This episode features some heated discussion on the morality of DLC with the recent and upcoming releases for Modern Warfare 2 and BioShock 2. There is also discussion on Windows Mobile 7, the Yakuza 3 cuts, the IGN layoffs, and more.
"Microsoft has today revealed that Dylan Hartley, one of the hottest young rugby talents in the UK, will be recruiting all available Xbox LIVE fans from across the UK for a unique Game with Fame event. To celebrate the launch of the first downloadable content (DLC) pack for Activision’s highly successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the Stimulus Package, Dylan will be playing the first multiplayer maps, available to download on 30th March 2010, exclusively on Xbox LIVE."
"Many gamers got real upset with my Uncharted 2 review. I was called an idiot (on local forums) and on an American forum when my review got translated I was called even worse things. The reactions were very strong, despite giving it an 8, which is "great" on our scale. It didn't matter, apparently it was two steps too low.
A couple of weeks ago, it was time for the release of Call of Duty: MW2. It was called a masterpiece in advance and the super high scores soon were released. I was one of..."
"Unsurprising as the announcement may be, it has been revealed today that Square Enix’s highly-anticipated Final Fantasy XIII has taken the top spot in the UK’s multi-format sales chart for the week ending March 13th, 2010. Having launched in both the North American and European territories on Tuesday, 9th March 2010, on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 simultaneously, Final Fantasy XIII has lived up to it’s expectations commercially."

"You’re standing in a dank dungeon, looking for a door that doesn’t exist. The lights flicker, and you hear the raging scream of a distant enemy. Flump, flump – the steps are getting closer. Arming yourself with your favourite weapon, you peer around a corner in the low light and you see him: the Big Daddy. By this time in the game, you have crossed over a mysterious threshold – your brain has mapped itself into the undersea world of Rapture and all you care about is saving your own skin. An i..."
Infinity Ward have announced that there highly anticipated unique game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, will be recieving the 1st installment of 2 downloadable Map Packs at the end of this month (30th March). The number of maps in this Map Pack are still to be confirmed.
If you haven't heard, Acitivision fired to upper ups at Infinity Ward by using a bouncer to force them out of the office. It was done because Infinity Ward wanted to do other plans besides COD and this upset Acitivision, greatly. So the solution was to fire the head honchos but this move just made many people backlash at Activision. Here some of the responses from other video game developers.
"The guy who posted the video, xRegardsx, has presented evidence of being banned from The Pro for supposedly having a false 10th prestige account in MW2. However, what The Pro wasn’t expecting is xRegardsx to have evidence of videos from his legitimate 8th and 9th prestiges on YouTube. xRegardsx even sent The Pro a message from another account to tell him that he has videos on YouTube proving he’s not a cheater and he’s telling the truth."
"As anyone who follows my Twitter is aware, I spent the better part of Monday night (Tuesday morning on the East Coast) calling everyone I knew who was associated with Activision. Most of them didn’t tell me much of anything. To those people, I apologize for continuously bugging you at all hours of the night. However a few people were willing to give me some information on what was going on at Infinity Ward so long as they were anonymous....
Infinity Ward has yet to be paid a single dime i..."
We had hoped to see some sensible reporting on this issue, especially after being interviewed last week by the ABC's 7.30 Report, but as always, the media likes to twist things to suit their own agenda, with games and gamers coming off as second rate citizens this time, and worse than smoking and lung cancer.
You need to watch the video to really grasp the low level of reporting that major stations stoop to in order to get coverage.
Dedicated servers...check, PC community happy...check, didn't give console gamers the ability to cheat in multiplayer...check.
If you have all of the above then you are the only sane people in the business. Bad Company 2 releases March 5th in Europe and earlier for other countries, so what else can you do after you've already kicked your competitor down in the dirt? Correct! When I heard that DICE was making a Battlefield where you can blow up anything. I didn’t believe but, when the first Battlefield Bad Company came out, it was great to blow everything and everywhere. Now in Battlefield Bad Company 2 they make that destruction 10x times better. Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t have any destruction like taking down a whole building with C4. Modern Warfare 2 get a little boring without changing the environment. With Battlefield Bad Company 2 t..."

"Most of us enjoy gaming whether its casual, hardcore or purely routine. It becomes something which makes for an awesome activity to pass the time and become a favourite past time. It can also make us mildly obsessive as we chat about games to come, research other games and talk smack about some games. It becomes a lifestyle for some of us. By harvesting all the brainpower of the world’s greatest minds, we have managed to discover what it is about gaming that makes us tick."

"I’m sure that by now no one is shocked to hear yet another tale regarding Infinity Ward’s inept handling of their latest game. How many times now has this game been patched over like your grandmothers favorite civil war quilt? So those damned glitch games are gone, right? You can no longer have matches with everyone free firing Thumpers and noob-tubes with infinite ammo. Oh and no more having to deal with being lured into these damn boost matches at the smaller map known as Rust."
"My journalism professor is concerned about the violence in modern day videogames, but to be honest, he doesn't know much about gaming. He spoke specifically about the commercials shown during his Sunday football games.
"There's one where there's a zombie's head being sawed off [L4D2] and then another simulating a bloody war against terrorists [MW2]," he said.
He referenced feeling uncomfortable while watching with his young nephew, saying it was shown in the middle of the afternoon and ..."
"Frank Lantz is a disarming figure. He has a serious face with the sharp severity of a Classical bust. This impression is almost immediately undercut by a welcoming enthusiasm and playful grin. The contrast between stoicism and ebullience is entirely fitting for a man of his experience and ambition. Lantz is creative director and co-founder of Area/Code, a 'cross-media' entertainment company behind Pac-Manhattan, Big Urban Game and the recently launched Code Of Everand.
It’s good that there..."
"The shortlist for the BAFTA GAME Award 2009 has been announced and you - the British public - will decide who nabs the prize.
Last year 60,000 gamers voted, with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare crowned the eventual winner. This time around the sequel could repeat the feat, but will face stiff competition from the likes of Batman: Arkham Asylum and FIFA 10."
"Well, congratulations Playstation 3 owners, MAG has finally been out for a bit and admittedly, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. The prospect of games totaling 256 players is intriguing, but should we as 360 owners catch a case of the Green-Eyed Monster and feel some kind of envy? The short answer is no, at least for now."
If enjoy shooters but they aren't really your thing, this is an interesting look at why MAG might be for you. On the surface, a 256 player game is probably what attracts most players MAG, but there are some other features that might be of interest (like the fact that "every second person I meet isn’t a giant douche"). Of course, this is for those that aren't as into the Call of Duty franchise as some might be.
"In light of some decisions recently made by third party developers, I believe I have some ideas as to why it's hard to sell hardcore third-party titles on the Wii.
So what do you do? The Wii doesn't have all the technical features of the 360 or the PS3. So how can a third party make a Wii hardcore title that can compete with 360 and PS3 hardcore titles? EA actually had a pretty good idea with Dead Space: Extraction. HD console owners who like Dead Space would be interested. Plus, there ar..."
"With Activision and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 breaking numerous records upon release, the revelation that the game has dominated the sales charts of 2009 comes as little shock. GfK-ChartTrack has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold 11.86 million units during 2009, despite only being available for less than two months."
"Tonight, television fans around the country tuned in for the season premier of LOST. If the producers are to be believed, it's the last season, and should give some closure to the plot lines started up over the past five years. While watching, I couldn't help but think about what makes the show so successful, and realized there are a few things that game makers could take away from J.J. Abrams' series. Well, besides Polar Bears, of course."
"In an interview with Eurogamer.de, Magnusson said;
"I certainly respect our colleagues and they have made a first-class title on the legs, but I think we simply have a better, richer multiplayer experience. Exactly what we wanted to achieve and I believe we succeeded in that, too.""
"After having reportedly shipped two million units to retail worldwide, Mass Effect 2 has taken the top spot in the UK, knocking Ubisoft’s Just Dance down to second place, according to GfK Chart-Track data. The chart applies for the week ending January 30th, which means BioWare’s latest managed to become the biggest selling game of last week with just it’s first days of sales."
"This generation has seen its fair share of epic titles, captivating narratives and intense action -- but not very many iconic, unique, or influential game characters in comparison to previous generations. Luckily though, there are a few of these figures in the current generation."
"Everyone likes to game on their system of choice. It’s the unspoken right that every gamer has been privy to since the first console hit the market and was subsequently followed by its competitor. This kicked off what was known as the console wars and ever since, there have been new veterans joining the ranks every single day. While console exclusives are all well and good being, for the most part, system sellers. It is usually the cross platform titles that stand out the most as people will ..."
Steam has recently released their top 10 sellers for the week of January 17-23rd, and surprisingly the top sellers are actually Pre-Orders. With Mass Effect 2 being released on the 26th of January and being called by Time.com as "the Avatar of video games — except it's better written", it could hardly be surprising.
However Battlefield Bad Company 2 takes the second spot and has only been available for 2 days out of the 7 possible selling days. Although Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 stil...
"When I played the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 2, I caught myself posing the question on an Internet forum: “Modern What-fare 2?” I was so enthralled with what Naughty Dog had churned out that I felt I would be playing it for months to come, ignoring many of the heavy-hitters that were announced to come out in the months to follow. And so far that has stayed true; I look at my library of games and after considering Assassin’s Creed 2, Dragon Age and even Modern Warfare 2 I go to pop in Unch..."
The stereotypical girl loves twilight. The stereotypical guy loves Modern Warfare 2. Seeing as both have made millions already with each's target audience, the questions remains: How can one milk more money out of the two franchises?
The answer? This hilariously brilliant combination of the two.
"Deciding the victor in terms of unique users that have logged-on to play online, Halo 3 remains the most popular Xbox LIVE title of the 2009 calendar year. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 take second and third place respectively, while Call of Duty: World at War and Gears of War 2 manages to round-out the top five. Resident Evil 5, however, has been split into two entries – that of the North American and European release, and that of the Japanese title under ..."
""Nothing but love to the people who wrote these games, but in all seriousness, what was the process by which these games were picked? I’m sure that I haven’t been exposed to the intricacies of the vast number of genres of entertainment. I’m sure my bias to the hectic nature of explosions and fallen gun shells beset with the drama of fallen comrades and tragic pasts keep me from enjoying the subtle beauteousness of The Sound of Music and what not. I’m also positive that I know nothing about wh..."
"Let me put this bluntly: Slamming X a bunch of times to do something mundane like open a door is not fun. It's never been fun. I'm not sure how or why developers came up with the notion that it'd be a good idea to make players sweat to accomplish seemingly simple tasks, but it's a horrible practice that should die as soon as possible.
That's not to say that there's no room for portraying "effort" in a game. There's a value in it, as it allows players to share a moment with their avatar, as..."

"The explosive growth of online gaming communities in recent years has created amazing opportunities to go head-to-head against all kinds of players from around the world. But the vast freedom and flexibility of online play on consoles and PC has also given rise to something more insidious – a new place for bigotry and homophobia to manifest and thrive.
"I often hear gamers say 'Why do you have to segregate yourselves? Aren't we all just gamers?' My answer is, quite frankly, no," says De M..."
"Activision Blizzard, Inc. has announced today that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues to set sell-through records. The undeniably successful videogame has now crossed the $1 billion mark in retail sales worldwide since its launch in November, according to internal Activision estimates."
"Last year, 2009, turned into a sensational twelve months for Activision as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ended the year as the best-selling videogame topping the coveted 2009 All Formats Chart, according to data released today by ELSPA/GfK Chart-Track. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has continued to set new records since its release in November last year, grossing more than £67 million in its first week of sales."
"It has been revealed today that with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 claiming it’s ninth chart-topping week, Activision and Infinity Ward’s hugely popular First-Person Shooter (FPS) has become the third biggest selling videogame release ever in UK history. Only Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? can claim to have sold more units in the UK, despite Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 having only been on sale for nine weeks."

"The release of Project Natal prior to the year’s end was once again confirmed, along with the fact that it will work with all existing Xbox 360 consoles. Further discussing new ideas, an interesting proposition was mentioned in the fact that Microsoft is considering allowing gamers to purchase a game on Xbox 360, and play it on their PC. Would this fantastic suggestion ever come to light in the retail space, however, Electronic Theatre would be very surprised indeed."
"Nintendo Wii stormed the field with software sales of over 18 million units in the UK, retaining the title of Number One software format by units sold. Sony's PlayStation 3 also saw a dramatic increase by 14 per cent of software units sold, from 10.4 million units in 2008 to 11.9 million units in 2009. Overall, in 2009 UK consumers bought a total of 74.6 million videogame units - which works out at more than one per person in the UK."

"Just over two years ago, Infinity Ward unleashed the critically acclaimed fourth entry into their highly acclaimed first person shooter franchise - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. He game combined a memorable campaign with immersive action, a good story, fantastic graphics and polished game play to create an experience that is still considered to be one of the finest shooters ever made. Step forward two years and Infinity Ward are back again with a sequel to their first person epic - Modern W..."

"If there is one thing that leaves gamers drooling over themselves in anticipation for an upcoming title, it’s a great trailer. This year treated gamers to more than the fair share of exceptional videos that showcased some exquisitely awesome games. I tried to keep it with titles that have either released in 2009 or will release early 2010, thus there will be no Halo Reach here. Although Reach has an awesome trailer and you can read my trailer dissertation here, I suggest you sit back and for ..."
All Age Gaming has gone through all the Playstation 3 games that have been released to the end of 2009 and have come up with the Top 10 Games on the Playstation 3 so far. Although there are many great games scheduled to release over the coming months, any of the titles on this list are worthy additions to your collection.
"The eleventh day of Christmas is upon us and that means it’s time for the eleventh instalment of Electronic Theatre’s The Twelve Games of Christmas series. Every day for the twelve days of Christmas we have been looking back at the very best releases that 2009 has offered to the videogaming industry. Today is the turn of November 2009, arguably the most mouth-watering month of the year due to a glut of much anticipated titles. Electronic Theatre aims to advise you on which games you should be..."
"As 2009 came to a close, we posted a weeklong look at our favorite games of 2009. However, those 40 titles (including the eight we ultimately chose to honor as "The Best of the Best") were far from the only good games released last year. And did our picks match up with the rest of the game industry? But most importantly, what we really wanted to know was which game was truly the best game of 2009."
John Elliott from All Age Gaming has plowed through all the Xbox 360 games that have been released to date and has come up with the Top 10 Games on the Xbox 360. Although there are many great games scheduled to release over the coming months, any of the titles on this list are worthy additions to your collection.
"Like Jack Bauer, Chuck Norris and Neil Patrick Harris rise above the station of mortal men and become legendary, so do some video games. While 2009 was a tough year for the industry, both financially and creatively, that didn't stop a handful of titles from being enshrined into the video game canon."
". This is neither the "best of" or a "top 10" list, but rather a look at some of the coolest game trailers released during the year that got our blood pumping and our thumbs sweaty. And just so some of the really cool trailers don't feel left out, they made it into the nominees' listing. So everyone wins, sort of"
"Amazon has set up a page listing their yearly bestsellers in the video game category and, not surprisingly, the list is domninated by Nintendo's Wii. The Wii system itself took the overall top spot. It was flanked by the Wii Remote at #2, Wii MotionPlus at #3 and the Nunchuk at #4. Nintendo can also lay claim to the top-selling game on the list with New Super Mario Bros. Wii at #5. In fact, the only non-Wii product to crack the top ten is the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2..."
"Out with the old and in with the new is the usual quid pro quo that comes at the end of each year and with everything gamers have been exposed to, 2009 will without a doubt be a tough act to follow. However, as Microsoft Game Studios flaunts what the 360 has to offer, the console stands to seize the market and become the centerpiece of the game industry in 2010. As Microsoft continues to provide a seemingly endless supple of new quality content and numerous choice exclusives, this is just the..."
"Video games have taken on a life of their own. They can show us things that we could never dream of, giving us compelling and visceral narratives that books and films couldn’t necessarily offer the gaming community. But while these experiences are endowed with a unique quality in regards to gameplay and graphics, there is an aspect that is at times overlooked, which many games hinge their entire livelihood upon. For many titles, music defines the game. After all, an entire genre has been buil..."
dallasnews.com has an interesting piece up about the huge amount of war video games out there today, examining just why they're so prevalent.
It has a good bit of history, too, comparing the current trend with earlier eras of film, in part focusing on the content itself. One of the reasons listed for the shift is the 2001 WTC attack. So it appears, gamers have been a lot more open to adapting the topic in such times.
Give it a read.
"I don’t know about you, but my Xbox has had enough. After only a year on duty, the damned thing growls like the incessant rumble of an aged car engine near the end of its functionality. That is what inspired us to dub this years GOTY ballet for the Xbox 360 "Least Likely to Brick Your Shit." Amazingly my 360 actually got me through playing these great, console killing games without dying on me completely."
""2009 saw Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's record breaking launch, the return of Nathan Drake in Uncharted 2, new, groundbreaking experiences and traditional classics for the whole family. 2009 was a huge year for any type of gamer, no matter how you slice it.
So it is without further ado that GameZone presents our 2009 Game of the Year Awards. We took a look at the best and the brightest that this year had to offer, wracked our brains together in a rigorous voting process, and now we pres..."

"With less than a week to go to Christmas, the race is on for the coveted Christmas Number One in the All Formats Videogame Chart. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the current favourite, having reigned in pole position for the past five weeks. Close on its heels are Assassin's Creed II, Wii Sports Resort and FIFA 10, which have all jockeyed for second place over the past month."
On The Bender this week, we have lot of random topics covered. We start out with a tiny bit of Modern Warfare talk, we get into what is going on with some of these "Game of the Year" lists, and somehow we end up talking about bible/God themed games. Listen live/stream with iTunes on this link. Download the mp3 directly here. And if you have Zune, we are also up here
"Christmas will have come and gone in January, but doesn’t mean you can stop spending money! The Spawn Kill cast minus a couple of us — that’s Molotov Cupcake, Tigresa, K-Tuck, The Herp, and Snarkasaur — discusses the cornucopia of games being released Q1 of 2010 and various subjects that coincide with the games coming out as well as our subsequently drained bank accounts. Also on the agenda as usual is what we’ve been playing as well as a couple short news snippets."
"Game for Good was an initiative that promised that a donation would be made to the War Child charity in respect to the amount of players logging-on to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox LIVE. Were over 600,000 UK users to log-on to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a donation will be made to War Child of £150,000. Further to this, an additional £25,000 will be donated for every 100,000 users after that, up to a maximum of £250,000. Electronic Theatre can reveal today that more than 1,0..."
Ironically, the list dubbed "Ten Games to Cross off Your Child's Gift List" almost certainly contains at least one game that if on ever member of Neoseeker's list this holiday season.
Now while I'm sure the Times *scoff* has their reasons to dislike this list of mostly shooters and questionable ethical decisions, but that's the main draw (at least for most gamers)

"I mean, how many times do we need to storm the beaches of Normandy? Or scour the ruins of Berlin? It's no wonder people say they're sick of playing WW2 games when they play the same people fighting the same enemy in the same locations over and over and over.
The Second World War was fought across Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, North Atlantic, Indian sub-continent, South East Asia, the South Pacific, even Australasia, so it's time games started mixing things up and represent..."
"It's that time of the year (no more major releases are hitting) where each website announces their Game of the Year winners, after weeks of arguing and fighting we finally came up with a list that we think represents the entire year of 2009 gaming on the Xbox 360 system. Check out the full list below and then head to our forums by clicking here to discuss your favorites and whether or not we got the list wrong; hope you all enjoyed the year of gaming as much as we did and we can't wait to see..."
""Modern Warfare 2 is quite possibly the best first-person shooter I have ever played. The single player is solid enough to have me run through it again, and the Spec Ops challenges have me returning to see just how more efficiently I can tackle the objectives. Further, I am absolutely addicted to earning and utilizing all of the many weapons available in the multiplayer mode. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the perfect title for FPS fans and online gamers alike.""
"Playstation 3 owners have a few great games to choose from for the holidays even if the majority of games are multi-platform. Choosing one of them for the PS3 console might be dependent of many factors such as what consoles you own and how the game differs from console to console. Here is a list of the top five games that I recommend people to put on their list of either games to ask for or games to give."
"It was announced that the game is not only the fastest selling and highest grossing form of entertainment property within a five-day period in the history of entertainment sales, but Modern Warfare 2 also boasts having more active users than any single (or combined) army in the entire world."
"If you’re anything like the hardworking staff at Spawn Kill (or at least three of them), you’ve probably got a bone to pick with Modern Warfare 2 and its status as potential game of the year material. Spawn Kill owners Molotov Cupcake and Tigresa, along with staff writer The Herp bring you a bountiful, informative, and snarky cavalcade of discussion involving their reasoning behind nullifying Modern Warfare 2’s candidacy for game of the year (single-player finesse aside), Black Friday shenani..."
"To win a coveted spot in Urgent Fury’s signature TacMap Invitational, teams will have to compete in one of two qualifying tournaments throughout the year. Titles featured will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and SOCOM Confrontation for PlayStation 3."
"You didn't try the online multiplayer portion of modern warfare 2????? Seriously????? THAT'S LIKE TRYING ORANGE BOX AND SKIPPING OVER THE SILLY PORTAL GAME."
-Matt, via email
Yes, I had a feeling I'd be answering for this today. Why didn't I give Modern Warfare 2's online multiplayer the time of day, despite it being one of the game's big selling points and apparently bestowed upon this Earth by the divine hand of Siddhartha Buddha? I suppose if people are confused enough to u..."
With EA's announcement of the Medal of Honor reboot, gamers got a chance to take a gander at the new box art for the game. While it is almost assuredly just a temporary image to be used as filler for retailers, there is no denying that the artwork is strikingly similar to another modern day FPS...
"Graphically, Modern Warfare 2 is pure eye candy and you will not find a title with more attention to detail. Real-world locales such as Washington D.C., Moscow, and Rio de Janeiro (to name a few) are all beautifully rendered and are crafted with lush exterior environments and impressive interior design. Everything from the inventory of weapons to the photo-realistic blood effects are nothing short of gorgeous."
From blaming the Illinois shooting on video games to sending the FBI after Kotaku to insulting the judge presiding over his case, Jack Thompson did some pretty crazy things during his reign of terror. Gamers in America (and around the world) were thrilled when Jack was finally disbarred from practising law before fading into obscurity. We thought that was the end of such silliness in the gaming world. Well, apparently not.
It seems South Australian attorney general, Michael Atkinson, has s...
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 grossed a record £67.4 million within it’s first week of retail availability in the UK alone, but it doesn’t seem as though publisher Activision or developer Infinity Ward are yet done with record breaking title. It has been revealed that the publisher has committed to delivering Downloadable Content (DLC) for the game on all formats, an effort that could prove to be very lucrative."
"The juggernaut that is Modern Warfare 2 has been released and with just two weeks of it being on shelves gamers are already criticizing the game’s length and content in comparison to Modern Warfare 1.
So here we’ll take a look and compare Modern Warfare 1 and Modern Warfare 2 and see exactly where things have changed for better or worse and try to just figure out wtf?! Infinity Ward wanted to portray in Modern Warfare 2.
So back in 2007 when Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Modern Warfar..."
"Activision, Infinity Ward, GAME and Xbox LIVE have teamed-up to promote a charitable initiative in support of War Child. Known as Game for Good, Xbox LIVE gamers who log-on to play the phenomenally successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will not only be entering one of the most aggressive playing fields in modern videogaming, but will also be aiding the charity."
"It’s always interesting to take a look at what titles round out the top 10 most played games on Xbox Live and what it says about the Xbox community. Since the release of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, they’ve both shared some time at the top spot. Same can be said about Call of Duty: World at War, but a little game called Modern Warfare 2 released on November 10th and it should be no surprise to anyone that it became the most played game on Xbox Live."

Celebrating the 360's fourth anniversary IGN takes a look at the top 25 games on the console including some new and old releases over the years. The list is comprised of a wide variety of genres and features XBLA games for those looking for something on a budget. 360 owners can see what they've missed out on and put on their list for the holiday season.
"So as it had come to be foretold, Modern Warfare 2 has descended from the Heavens for all to play and Infinity Ward looked upon us, their beloved Gamers and saw that it was good. Well, at least it was good for Xbox 360 owners. Despite the server issue with the Playstation 3 multiplayer, PC Gamers considerably upset about the lack of features (i.e Dedicated servers), as well as a bit of broken street date fever all over the world, it seems that Modern Warfare 2 has been considerably well-recei..."
"I can hear what you are saying to yourself right now, and your cheetos are in the second drawer. (Underneath where you keep your silverware.) That's not what you are thinking? Oh. You are questioning my title with outrage and anger. "Why Hamsterfist you are crazy!" There are plenty of great games released this fall, none of which are disappointing. Now who's the lunatic? You, my dear reader are. But the advertisers and game developers thank you for rushing to the defense..."
The Kartel highlights how most gamers never actually finish a game, and why certain features that make play through easier can actually increase the enjoyment for a game. New Super Mario Bros Wii, Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead, and even Bayonetta are raised as examples.
"I hear a lot of bitching that innovation is dead in America. That’s a lie. The problem is that we have two industries at odds, neither of which is really equipped to present innovations to the masses.
First off, we have the indie community, which bewails its unrecognized genius and occasionally screams “sellout!” whenever someone in the community actually manages to make a hit.
Then we have the AAA industry, which often claims that it can’t take the kind of risks that innovation require..."
"That Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be a success was never truly open to debate, that it would so very many records was a welcoming reminder as to how widely accepted videogaming as a hobby has become. The UK is known to have adopted videogaming in steadily increasing number since the 1980’s, and now anyone can pick up a game and play, no matter what their previous experience or skill level. That being said, everyone likes a helping hand every now and then."

You have probably completed the single player campaign and played every single multiplayer level by now. But there is one level that you probably haven't played it. The Spielberg level features ultra-realistic gameplay and the beaches of Normandy. Yes, it isn't very modern, but you got to give credit for Infinity Ward adding such a cool level. Check out the video of the level after the jump!
"Episode 2 of the Kill Kast features the presence of Tigresa, TheHerp, Snarkasaur, and K-Tuck discussing the impact of Modern Warfare 2′s controversial missions and multiplayer gameplay mechanics, Dragon Age: Origins, the preconception of budget games as being innately inferior, and the many titles past and present being played by the staff."
"Following the announcement of the first week’s UK sales figures for the phenomenally successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 yesterday, more detailed statistics have now revealed. With the suggestion that the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has seen the lion’s share of the retail success, these new statistics confirm that Microsoft’s console remains the dominant system in the UK for Call of Duty fans."
"In every other FPS where the developers decide it’s a good idea to drop in a driving scene here and there, they fail to capture a sense of urgency for the most part, and they become more of a diversion from the game as a whole. COD:MW2’s vehicle sections seem to keep the game flowing as they are (blessedly) short, intense, and thankfully in-context. In one of the opening missions, you and your partner have been caught red-handed (excuse the pun, but they are working over a Russian base), and..."
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has continued to set new records within the entertainment industry. According to figures just released by ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack, impressive first day UK sales of an estimated 1.23 million units (grossing around £48 million) have gone on to reach 1.78 million units (grossing £67.4 million) one week after release - the highest grossing figures of any videogame launch ever, putting it amongst the biggest entertainment events in history."
Video game violence has been thrust back into the spotlight by the recent release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - and it's not just gamers and the usual critics arguing over the game.
BBC One's The Big Questions, a weekly philosophical and religious debate programme which enjoys a popular Sunday morning slot, opened its 15th of November episode with the topic of game violence, using Modern Warfare 2 as an example. The discussion revolved around the infamous airport scene from the game,...
"In an unsurprising turn of events, singer/rapper Eminem’s “‘Till I Collapse” featuring Nate Dogg has climbed back to a “Top” chart after its appearance in Infinity Ward’s launch trailer for Modern Warfare 2. Despite the song being 7 years old, it’s climbed all the way to the Top 40 on iTunes, and is currently battling it out with 50 Cent and Jay-Z on the Hip-Hop/Rap list as well."

""It's definitely an aspiration that we see potential in, particularly as we look at different business models to monetize the online gameplay," said Tippl. "There's good knowledge exchange happening between the Blizzard folks and our online guys."
"We have great experience also on Call of Duty with the success we had on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. A lot of that knowledge is getting actually built into the Battle.Net platform and the design of that," he added. "I think it's been mut..."
"Modern Warfare 2 has been unleashed and has resulted in mass hysteria at retailers around the globe. Being Call of Duty, it’s only natural that such hype should be sustained by a brand name alone. But how long can Activision annually release the same series before their work reaches the predictability of other industry juggernauts such as Madden and Guitar Hero?"
"It’s been less than a week since Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 released and while it was welcomed by many warm hands a few disliked the game’s short campaign, over done multiplayer and not much improved graphics. While some outlets didn’t review the game at such a low score as ours, we’d never beat our selves over a game experience. There are some that are willing to run into a wall and hurt them selves to prove how a bad the game is. Hit the jump and laugh your ass off.
A great episode of The Bender. We of course get Modern Warfare 2 talk out of the way, but we actually manage to cover the rest of the news too. Braid coming out again, On Demand games (maybe not a bad thing?), and more. listen live/stream through iTunes here or download the mp3 directly here
Highlights of Modern Warfare 2's campaign mode - Some standout moments for a game that clearly has game of the year potential, including key sequences in the game, as well as some gameplay features. Warning: There are some spoilers, but they are highlighted out.
"[Needless to say, there are a few spoilers in this article, but I shall try to keep them to a minimum.]
The significance of Modern Warfare 2 and its drip fed pre-launch information are nothing without the controversies that have followed its tumultuous path to existence. We’ve had price concerns, format concerns, distribution concerns, and most recently, content concerns regarding the much lauded “Airport Scene”, in which the player becomes part of a terrorist attack.
There were reactio..."
"The release of Modern Warfare 2 set global records, outdoing even Hollywood in terms of launch revenue. Even gamers previously unfamiliar with the Call of Duty games took notice, given how much hype MW2 has received. Expectations were set incredibly high, which often results in great disappointment. Really though, does the game live up to all this excitement? Short answer is "yes." The newest Call of Duty is armed with a riveting campaign that picks up where Modern Warfare left off, and ..."
Last week Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime said that he believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2 on a single platform.
Now that Modern Warfare 2 has been released, Reggie stated that he is not surprised at how many units have already sold, although he expects MW2 to have trouble maintaining high sales numbers while NSMB Wii will sell consisently for the next few years...
"The single player mode is short, taking only 4-6 hours for an average player to complete. Also, players will find that a Co-Op campaign option is strangely absent, which was sacrificed in order to ensure the single player campaign was as polished as possible.
Thankfully, the story is crafted well enough to dismiss any complaints. Each step of the way is reminiscent of a high-octane Hollywood blockbuster. Very rarely does the pace of the story become slow and uninteresting.
I’m sure tha..."
Kid #1: "What the f*ck was that?"
Kid #2: "Harrier attack, man."
Kid #1: "What's a harrier attack?"

Kid #1: "Why don't they call it a plane strike?""
"Modern Warfare 2 so far has had a rocky start all around in terms of multiplayer. It seems all platforms had some problems and the number of people trying to access servers certainly didn’t help. Good news for PC and PlayStation 3 players as it seems the end to the issues is in sight."
Is the entertainment industry starting to show signs of an evolution or migration of interests? While games may sell for a much higher price than a movie ticket, it isn't very often you here of games opening sales records on the same level as their Hollywood counterparts. However, this is exactly what the new Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2, has achieved. The games US$335mil opening weekend sales have beaten the box office record for an opening weekend held by the recent smash hit The Da...
"One of the favorite things that jaded gamers like to do is hold boycotts against a particular product. They called for a boycott against Final Fantasy XIII because Square Enix had the audacity to release it on Xbox 360. They called for a boycott against Diablo III because it was, le gasp, “too colorful“. They tried to boycott Left 4 Dead 2… and failed after Valve flew the two masterminds behind the temper tantrum to their offices to show how awesome Left 4 Dead 2 was.
Most recently, they c..."
"Following yesterday’s announcement that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had broken the record for launch day sales in the UK, Activision have today revealed a breakdown of how those units are attributed to each platform. For sales throughout North America and Europe, currently suggested to have surpassed five million units in total, it appears that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold considerably more units on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console than it's rival system, Sony's PlayStation 3."
"Activision has announced that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment, with estimated sell-through sales of $310 million in North America and the UK alone in the first 24 hours.
In its first day the game sold approximately 4.7 million copies in North America and the UK, according to internal Activision estimates."
Fox News is at it again. This time they held a "fair and balanced" debate on whether or not the terrorism level in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was going too far and whether the game itself is too violent.

"As far back as I could possibly remember, anything that has brought joy into a person's life is supposed to be bad for them. The top culprits when I was a child were comic books and video games, but now that I'm all grown up I know it was all a bunch of malarkey. Parents are just doing what they think is right for their kids, which is fine and dandy, but when the press and special interest groups get involved with the things that should be in the hands of mom and dad I start to have an issue...."
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did not fail to live up to the expectations as one of the most eagerly anticipated videogames releases of all time. Initial first day UK sales - November 10th - reveal that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold an estimated 1.23 million units, grossing around £47 million."
"Possibly the most hyped, most discussed and most anticipated release of 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has arrived at retail in North America, Europe and a number of other large territories. The near global launch and intense marketing thanks to publisher Activision will give Infinity Ward’s latest the resources it needs to become one of the most successful launches of 2009, and possibly even one of the most successful videogame releases of all time."
"Looks like most retailers expect Modern Warfare 2 to break all kinds of mega-money records, becoming the “biggest selling video game in history.” Amazon has reported that preorders for the game were 50 percent higher than for Grand Theft Auto IV, and Play revealed that running up to launch, 150 preorders were taken every hour."
Since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is such a highly-anticipated game, you would expect most game stores to be crowded with CoD fans. That didn't happen at New York's Best Buy though. People dressed as clowns stood in line for the new Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Wii game and Bon Jovi fans were also waiting for the new Bon Jovi album, freaking out the few Call of Duty fans that were there.
"The king of the old-school cool, MC Hammer, was in Melbourne this Monday as part of the Xbox Insider Tour (pics and details soon!) and was happy to share his ideas about Twitter and gaming with the people (alongside singing a few classic hits). My voice recorder did a fine job amongst the pumped up crowd, so I managed to get his words down on tape.
But while his philosophy on Twitter is somewhat inspiring, did you also know he’s got the inside low-down on Call of Duty 5? … Well, sort of."
"Huzzah! Those discerning commandos among you will be excited to know that the official Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Xbox 360 console has been released here in Australia.
Interesting timing, with it being Remembrance Day here, a time to reflect on those soldiers who have fought for our country"
"Chris Plante writes,
"For a game that analysts predict to demolish records with a possible $500 million first week launch, it's astonishing that Modern Warfare 2's most recent artistic analogue is World War 2 comic books. (Funny, the series just cannot drop that period.)
Gamers from my generation saw clippings from these '40s era stories in our social studies books. Captain America versus the Nazis. Superman with a bald eagle perched on his bicep. These trades were part propaganda, yes,..."
"100: GamesRadar:Anyone who already has issues with the single-player ‘style’ of IW’s games will still find fault with the scripted, linear experience, but in terms of sheer drama and show-stopping set-pieces accompanied by laser sharp FPS controls, Modern Warfare 2 is your daddy. And that’s without Spec Ops and Multiplayer.
100: Gamepro:As much as I liked the single-player, even I have to admit that the multiplayer is where the real action is, and its new additions should (hopefully) help ..."
"Published by BradyGames and created in conjunction with Activision and Infinity Ward, the guide is the essential addition to any special mission loadout, with an RRP of £12.99 for the 304-page Signature Series book and £19.99 for the 320-page Prestige Edition hardcover that also includes additional bonus content (a comic book by Wildstorm Entertainment and a separate laminated multiplayer map foldout)."
"Going back to the single-player story mode it has to be said that the writers at Infinity Ward have crafted one of, if not the single best, pieces of video game entertainment of all time. The story flows in and out of mission-orders and briefing tools, letting the player take over control for the major plot points. There are more twists and turns than some entire game franchises feature, oh and don’t get too attached to any specific character because this is a tragic story even Quentin Tarant..."
Activision Blizzard plans for a $1 million donation to help vets transition from their military leave to civilian careers. CEO Bobby Kotick has stated, “The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more. How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can’t integrate back into the free market they’re supposed to be protecting?”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is finally here, in a variety of different versions including the standard edition, the Hardened Edition and the Prestige Edition (which includes night vision goggles and a downloadable copy of the original Call of Duty). "Major online retailer Direct2Drive have announced today that the year's biggest game - Modern Warfare 2 - won't be made available on their PC digital delivery service. Why? Because of rival platform Steam, of course!
Activision's shooter includes mandatory installation of Valve's Steamworks, which the game uses for stuff like installation, DRM and save-game management. Something Direct2Drive (which is owned by website IGN) are having none of, telling us "We don't believe games should force..."
Analyst Michael Patcher believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii's sales will "shock" and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto is confident that the game will sell for years. But was does Nintendo of America's President Reggie Fils-Aime think?
In a recent interview with Gametrailers, Reggie said that, despite being a big fan of the Call of Duty series, he believes New Super Mario Bros. Wii will "unequivocally" sell more than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on one particular platform.
You thought no dedicated servers was bad, the PC version is getting shafted from a lot more features. In an interview between the Infinity Ward and fans, Infinity Ward revelead that the game will have no console commands, no controle over the host, no leaning, no way to kick hackers and no option to record matches. Congrats IW, You just gave a huge finger to your fans.
"Official strategy guide expert, BradyGames, has announced it has been working exclusively with Activision and Infinity Ward on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide – the ultimate accessory to the most anticipated game of 2009."
Modern Warfare 2 launches next Tuesday, November 10, and with that Infinity Ward have prepared a trailer to promote the event.
Following up on the last truly epic installment, this one pulls it off again but goes in a somewhat different direction, all to the tune of Eminem's fantastic "Till I Collapse."

"An Australian lobbyist group is calling for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to be reclassified by the Australian Games Ratings Board due to the inclusion of a level in which you side with terrorists and make your way through an airport, killing civilians.
Considering the game has a MA 15+ rating, the highest rating in Australia, this change would effectively ban the game in Australia."
This the newest The Bender, sees the return of the guys from Philadelphia. We chat about what shenanigans went on at the GameX convention (both good and bad) and also find time to catch up with the news of the week. Including that new DSi "Old People Edition", the sillyness that will come out of the Modern Warfare 2 leaked footage, and I think we might have snuck some PSPgo jabs in before the end. Enjoy!

"Happy holidays everyone! Err…wait a minute. While it does feel like the holidays – thanks no less to Activison’s gift wrapping of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on November 10 – we still have a few weeks to go until Thanksgiving shows up and Black Friday follows. November is going to be a splendid month for gaming for those who are waiting for the holidays to come sooner rather than later. November should literally be called “Squember” since four out of our top five titles turn out to be sequ..."
"I have always been a proponent to realism in video games. I have always wanted a dramatic moment in a game to elicit an emotion from the player. I think that as a medium, video games need to do this to truly be considered art. Now that I have seen the new footage that was leaked from Modern Warfare 2 I may be changing my tone."
"Leaked footage of Modern Warfare 2 showcased a playable art of terrorism; in where the player would shoot innocent civilians in an airport. Activision has since explained the propose of the scene stating that it’s “designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism”."
If You don't want to spoil the intro for you, click out now.
The first game had its 'memorable' moments. One was the quite amazing intro for the game. Modern Warfare 2 hopes to go beyond that, but in a different direction. You get to play the role of Russian terrorist as you make your way through an airport gunning down innocent civilians. Is this going to far? Or is it cool to play as the evil guys for a little bit?
""It's not something you can toggle on and off in ANY game," said Bowling. The special mode can only be played in private matches -- toggled on or off just like "Hardcore" settings -- or in playlists that are designated for third-person play. According to Bowling, everyone playing in a third-person playlist will be restricted to the viewpoint. "This is just another cool way to play the game," he said, "you obviously will still have the option to play gametypes normal as well.""
In a recent podcast, an Infinity Ward developer brought out the news that the PC multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare 2 would rely heavily on it's matchmaking system. What's wrong with that, you may ask? The scrapping of dedicated servers, an option that players could use to set their rules, customization, etc.. Whilst this brings about somewhat more competitive gaming for clans and various teams of similar rank, it can make other players feel like they have less control. The community respon...

"Activision-Blizzard have today released an updated release schedule for their autumn/winter line-up. Within the schedule are release dates for all of Activision-Blizzard's highly-anticipated releases throughout October, November and December 2009, including DJ Hero, Band Hero and possibly one of the strongest releases of 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."
Infinity Ward gets all heavy and deep with the latest Modern Warfare 2 trailer. There's a reference to Abel's murder, and some are speculating this might mean Civil War within American borders. Pretty awesome trailer, anyway.

"Activision Blizzard certainly knows a thing or two about hauling in cash, as evidenced by the publisher's billion-dollar April-June quarter. In a post-earnings call, Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith tipped off investors and analysts as to how it plans to extend Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's sales beyond the game's rapidly approaching November 10 release, saying that the game will get a pair of map packs post-launch.

"The clip takes place during the South American mission that we saw a brief glimpse of from the Gamecrazy expo and this footage is a lot crazier than that. Cars are blowing up, dudes are getting shot, fellow soldiers are dying and dogs are attacking you. All in all it sounds like a typical day in the world of Modern Warfare. What is shown in the footage is pretty exciting and is everything you would expect out of a Call of Duty game."
"Throughout the course of this past weekend, September 17th – 20th, the Paris Game Festival took place over on the continent, showcasing some of the best games of this year and the hopefuls for 2010. Big name publishers such as Microsoft, Sony, Activision, Electronic Arts, Nintendo and Square Enix were joined by a raft of development studios and accessory manufacturers, each attempting to wow their audience with their latest and greatest releases."
One of the fan favorite parts of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was the bonus Mile High Club level. Capping the game off with a bonus level that was really fast and compelled gamers to get the best clear time proved to be quite a hit. Now Infinity War is giving us an entire mode like that in Modern Warfare 2 and today we have some new footage for it.

"Modern Warfare brought the present-day to gamers: new weapons, locations and a threat like no other greeted eager fans. It marked a shift in the way the company made a game; prior versions by Infinity Ward heavily focused on the story, providing a cinematic experience for those who played. Modern Warfare preserved that approach but developed the multiplayer mechanics to meet the needs of the fans, bringing about one of the biggest shifts in popularity for the Call of Duty franchise, conquerin..."
Well it looks like Infinity Ward really has outdone their selves with Modern Warfare 2. The amount of upgrades that have been implemented in the online portion are jaw dropping. Now we are able to have more than pistols as our secondary weapon, upgrade perks, shoot down that pesky UAV, have customizable kill streaks, etc. I can only speak for myself, but I guarantee this game is going to destroy my free time.
At Infinity's Ward Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer event yesterday, a lot of things were announced. It was revealed that there will be a Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 Bundle, and within the press release statement made by Infinity Ward this morning, it was also revealed that Xbox Live users will get their hands on the new Modern Warfare 2 DLC maps first.
"Beginning with the game’s worldwide release on November 10, fans can arm themselves with the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console, featuring an exclusive design inspired by the epic thriller, more storage space than ever before in a 250GB Hard Drive, two Xbox 360 Wireless Controllers, as well as an Xbox 360 Headset and a Standard Edition copy of Modern Warfare 2 for an estimated retail price of $399 (USD) and $599 (AUD) here in Australia."
"Everybody already knows this game is going to destroy. Companies make release date decisions based on this series. The popularity that was Modern Warfare wasn’t expected but was met with such success that a sequel was bound to happen. Modern Warfare 2 seems to be taking all the right decisions a sequel should take. Multiplayer is getting updated a lot more than what I was expecting, which what I was expecting was COD 4 multiplayer with new maps, but the new implementations sound awesome. Let’..."
Modern Warfare is one of the most popular games to be released in the past 10 years as far as multiplayer is concerned and Modern Warfare 2 looks to top that. Not only will the same mechanics from MW1 be refined but new ones such as the ability to carry shields and dual wield weapons will also be added. Check out a glimpse of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode in this exciting new trailer.
"The Rio de Janeiro stage was the one that was shown briefly to those lucky Gamecrazy attendees as it was played live by an Infinity Ward rep. Not a lot of action was shown in the leaked video but the general vibe that the city gave off both from a visual and game design sense was quite good. Seeing civilians run around a warzone helps set the tones of things and it’s something that hasn’t really been in prior editions of Call of Duty, let alone Modern Warfare."
"Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. today announced a full range of licensed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 accessories for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PC, which are expected to ship across North America and key European territories with the release of one of the year's most anticipated games in November 2009."
What's better than holding one Desert Eagle pistol? Holding two Desert Eagle pistols. Yes, at the Gamecrazy event in Las Vegas, Infinity Ward showed off dual-wielding pistols in Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling had this to say:
“Just walked off stage. Crowd was amazing, went insane chanting “pick it up!” when I stumbled over Dual-wield Deagles. lol - Akimbo confirmed”
It is not known how many weapons you will be able to dual-wield, or if you will be able to dual-wield we...
"On the conference call following the release of GameStop's second-quarter fiscal results, Tony Bartel, EVP of Merchandising and Marketing, talked about games that would help drive the back half of the year for the industry and GameStop. He pointed to Halo: ODST, Assassin's Creed 2, and most important of all, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
In fact, GameStop believes Modern Warfare 2 could set new records. “We expect Modern Warfare 2 could be the best selling title of all time..."
"Activision has told CVG that there will be no multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The last Inifinity Ward developed Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, had a popular public beta released in advance of the game's sale date.
For those looking forward to the new multiplayer features in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it looks like you'll have to wait until the game hits store shelves on November 10."
Conventions, trade shows -- assets. Activision is stealing the show today with a bunch of Modern Warfare images and trailer, mostly for the Nintendo versions.
Two new screenshots come from Modern Warfare 2, though they were too big to upload here (check source). So you'll just have to check out some of those DS and Wii screens (more at source). The DS version has been titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized, and the Wii edition is Treyarch's port of Modern Warfare.
"What’s more ridiculous? Gamers talking about a boycott of Activision over prices, or a uniform cost for games regardless of quality? I say the situations are equally ridiculous.
Activision recently announced the price of Modern Warfare 2 in Great Britain will be 55 British Pounds ($90 US/ $109 AUD), a 5 Pound increase ($8.50 US/ $10 AUD) over typical retail price there.
Will You Be Going To War Against Activision?
Analyst Michael Pachter told Eurogamer the price increase is a test b..."
It looks like Activision did a number on some gamers and got there panties all in a bunch. To retaliate, many gamers over the internet are considering a boycott of Activision products. Some have started an online petition while others plan on pirating MW2. But as we all know, an online petition wont do much, there only hope is a successful boycott.
"Robert Bowling from Infinity Ward tells us that 50 Cent is "one of many squad voices" that will be featured in the multiplayer and Spec Ops modes in Modern Warfare 2. Expect to hear Fifty saying things like"Reloading," "Watch your fire," "I'm down, get me up!" and "Tango Down!" according to Bowling.
"He is one of quite a few casual cameos in the game, none of which I can name at this point," Bowling says. "Benji and Joel of Good Charlotte NOT being one of them. They're just good friends wi..."
Yep, you read properly. A DS version of Modern Warfare has been announced by Activision, in development by n-Space. It will be called "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized," with two sets of colons.
Set to be released November 10 (worldwide) with Modern Warfare 2, Mobilized will feature its own narrative, combat style, and six-player online play.
Survival Mode lets you take on waves of enemy forces (popular play mode now) with a set arsenal; Arcade Mode works a little like time t...

"ShopTo has told Eurogamer that publishers are following Activision by increasing the price of their popular franchises.
"Whether planned, or a case of jumping on the popular franchises bandwagon, we have seen Microsoft increase the price of Forza 3 to £49.99 and Nintendo increase the price of Professor Layton [and Pandora's Box] to £34.99," ShopTo boss Igor Cipolletta told us. "I sincerely hope that not all publishers will follow this lead."
"The price increases that some publishers thi..."
This topic has been heard plenty of times, which are better achievements or trophies. One can question its launch with the console vs maybe a tack on feature. The real question is who values them more for their respective console? The staff at LVLONE discusses the different features each console presents.
A grand episode of The Bender. Was posted on Saturday, but didn't get to Grep until now (my bad!) In this episode we touch on the "Black College Football Xperience" video game and how it is possibly racist in title, a bunch of random comic book news, information, and other stuff mentioned (thanks Comic Con!), and touch briefly on the news no one is covering enough, the chance to have your band in Rock Band! Stream/Listen live through iTunes or grab the MP3 here
(I suggest hitting up "...
"Think Activision was only putting out peripherals for their rhythm games? Think again. Infinity Ward's upcoming first-person shooter, Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC), may also get its own controller. If you're thinking of getting the Prestige Edition you might want to make sure you have some extra money for this as well."
Serious subjects hit The Bender this week. We tackle the three things you see in the title plus the other gaming tidbits that happened this past week. Listen in to hear why Left 4 Dead 2 is not racist, how most gamers are not homophobic, Allison explaining the economics involved with game prices, and James not accepting MMA as a sport. "Bobby Kotick’s choice words for Sony sparked outrage amongst PS3 fans, and quickly became one of the most controversial subjects of the summer. The outspoken CEO suggested Activision would drop support for PlayStation if Sony didn’t lower the price point on the PlayStation 3. The glare of the corporate flames shine a light on what is actually a very bold statement, coming from a publisher responsible for some of this years most expensive video games. Basically Activision has a lot of nerve."
"Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will cost £54.99 GBP on all platforms when it is released this autumn - and that's just for the standard edition, not the super special OMG comes with nightvision goggles edition.
Activision claims that the weak performance of the pound, combined with record development costs, have forced the cost of the game to be raised to £54.99 on all platforms."
Power Unlimited, a Dutch magazine, recently had a trip to London to meet up with Infinty Ward's Robert Bowling and Vince Zampella, to exclusively showcase a new demo of the first 3 levels for their upcoming hit, Modern Warfare 2 from the award winning Call of Duty series.
This article reveals for the first time the levels of "Slums" and "Desert" as well as the familiar "Cliffhanger"
A great episode of The Bender awaits you. James will be buying a new system soon (he has had both a PS3 and Xbox 360, both have broke on him in the past). I ended up trying to show James the benefits of the Xbox 360, while Perry attempts to do the same for the PS3, and Allison swoops into talk about the Wii, but ends up saying pros/cons of the 360 and PS3. Plus we cover game news and the such. Enjoy!

"It seems as though Activision may have realised they were being a tad too plucky with the strength of their Modern Warfare brand, as a revelation via that most unlikely source, Twitter, has revealed that the highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 may be stepping back into the Call of Duty fray."
""However, Robert Bowling, director of communications/community manager for Infinity Ward, warns that the co-op will not be campaign based. Instead, it’ll be called Special Ops, and it is “designed to be replayed over and over again.” He added that, “[Infinity Ward didn't want to] ruin the story by cramming co-op into it.”""
This week on The Bender, we bring you a discussion between Perry and Mike over digital downloads versus owning a physical copy of a game, we give Scribblenauts some attention, and a whole lot more, check the show notes in the quote. Grab the podcast off iTunes by clicking here or download the mp3 directly here.
"While the recently released box art for Modern Warfare 2 isn’t the final design, a number of people have expressed their discontentment with its appearance.
Personally, I don’t mind the temporary box art. But I felt that in the case of Modern Warfare 2, all that’s needed, really, is a black background with the logo prominently displayed."
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare took the industry by storm when it shipped for Holiday '07. Now a year and a half later, Activision's blockbuster shooter has sold a whopping 13 million copies. Activision Blizzard once again hopes to dominate the holiday shopping season later this year when the company ships Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2.
We asked Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith during E3 what his expectations for the title are. Not surprisingly, he's extremely confident. And he..."
"At approximately 6:28pm GMT this evening, Microsoft kick-started this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with their invitation-only Press Conference, highlighting the forthcoming year of Xbox 360 events. Electronic Theatre now brings you the full rundown of the event, with an insightful analysis of how each revelation will affect you, and the way you play games."
"The gaming world is gearing up for this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, which is arguably one of the most exciting times of the year in this industry. Many games will be showcased and as with past shows, there are likely a few surprises in store as well.
A wide array of first and third person shooters have been confirmed to appear at this year’s event. Here is a look at some of the ones that we’re interested in getting a glimpse at the most:"
"Apparently Sony is going to reveal the new PlayStation 3 Slim, but what about Microsoft? Will they take a step in the motion sensing direction that I mentioned in a previous week's article? Or will they physically change the appearance of the Xbox 360? Think about it, the all new Xbox 360 Slim! Trade in your old console and x amount of games to get the new Xbox 360 Slim for $99! If Microsoft could successfully decrease the chance of getting the RROD and implement that into a smaller Xbox 360,..."
Any of you watch the NBA Eastern Conference Finals? Great, but this is GameGrep, and we're not here to talk about sports. Admit it, most of you were watching JUST to see the Modern Warfare 2 trailer!
Well, Activision did release the extended uncut version on Sunday, so here it is. It's more graphic than the one aired on TV... just in case the word "uncut" hasn't already tipped you off.
Otherwise, please enjoy~
Modern Warfare 2 has held the crown in the FPS genre for some time now, but competition is always around the corner. Now we have a real battle and it comes from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and according to both trailers it seems that Modern Warfare 2 has met it's match.
"As the hype gathers pace for what will hopefully be a grand presence at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next month, Modern Warfare 2 is receiving news updates and commentary almost daily, but the revelation of cover artwork – temporary or otherwise – clearly demonstrates Activision’s need to reassure the mainstream gaming audience that Modern Warfare 2 is the next Call of Duty release, in all but name."
"Eschewing it’s opening tagline whilst trying not to disorientate the fans, Modern Warfare 2 will l aunch on all major console formats this winter. Rumours currently suggest more details will be forthcoming on May 24th, 2009 – this coming Sunday – but failing this, you can almost guarantee Modern Warfare 2 will feature heavily in Activision’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) line-up in Los Angeles at the beginning of next month."
The first ever 'proper' (the teaser doesn't count) footage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been released, apparently in the middle of a sports game (the source is pretty vague). It shows the typical soldiers killing and dying, all in a snowy tundra. Underwater diving is also shown, though that may not be gameplay, as well as a snow mobile sequence. Check out this smoking hot video at the source.
"That’s right. According to The Hollwood Reporter, it seems that Activision have set up deals for “Call of Duty: The Movie”, the movie for the very popular video game.
“[The Call of Duty movie is] being talked about for the big screen,” said one person with knowledge of the deal.
However, in an interview prior to Thursday’s quarterly earnings conference call, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick wouldn’t comment on the status of Call of Duty becoming a film."
"A new set of maps for Call of Duty: World at War (due in June) wasn’t the only major piece of news floating around recently pertaining to Activision’s famed FPS series. Rumor has it that Treyarch’s next contribution to the series may center on Vietnam, based on Activision’s supposed efforts in obtaining rights for Vietnam War-era music."
"Infinity Ward is known for producing smooth gameplay that feels great to control unlike some other FPS’s. However, with Killzone 2 introducing a proper cover system for the first time in a first person shooter, can IW come up with something different that will set their game apart from a standard FPS?"
