In the return of Jon Ireson's opinion-based articles, RealGamerNewz takes a moment to analyze the Top 5 'WTF?' Moments in Gaming Innovation this Generation (based on this particular author's experiences and opinions). Take a look, you may be surprised how much you agree with him.
Sequels are the game that tend to make the most money in this industry, so it is pretty much expected that every big game will get one or more sequels. It can be great when a sequel turns out as good or better than the original, but it can be devastating when it doesn't. These 10 games didn't to live up to the quality of their predecessors, and failed to meet fans' high expectations.
Leviathyn.com's Cassidee Moser lists some of the more bizarre, random, misplaced, or unusual additions to special edition bundles of games. RC Cars and Underwear are just the beginning.
A look at how franchises could shake it up with radical changes. Changing genres could be too risky or really successful. Metroid's Prime series was a big change. How about something like a turn-based strategy RPG Starfox game?
"Today is leap day, an event that only happens once every four years. It gives the masses a special opportunity to enjoy one more day of life for the year. Lets be honest, though. Do we ever take full advantage of the day or is it treated like any other day? Unfortunately, as gamers we need as many extra days as we can get. We’ve seen hours turn into days while trying to beat just one level of a game, and all of the character deaths act as wasted time in the pursuit of beating that one stage. ..."
"Shotguns. Boomsticks. Double-barreled hand cannons. Skeet blasters. Every self-respecting online shooter has to feature a powerful shotgun, if for no other reason than to adhere to the rule of weapon tiers as established by id Software in the early 90′s."
"For this top 10 list I have decided to countdown my 10 favorite video game heroes. These characters earn a spot on this list by being courageous, daring, strong, skilled, smart, or any combination of those that make them shine above the crowd. These characters are vital to the survival of numerous people and they are the best at what they do. I’ve only included characters from games that I have personally played. Here’s my 10 favorite video game heroes:"
"U.S. Supreme Court that a California law banning the sale of violent video games to kids went too far is just the latest in a long string of headline-grabbing moments in gaming history. Unfortunately, at least as far as mainstream audiences are concerned, those headlines often center around violence in video games, particularly focusing on how that violence affects children. Read the full story for more."
"Osama Bin Laden was killed this week and to mark the occasion, a list of the Top 5 assassinations in modern day shooters has been compiled. The list takes into account who gets killed, how they get killed, and how cool it was to kill them. When I put it like that it sounds a bit demented, but if you’ve played through these games, you know how awesome the moments are. This list does contain spoilers, so reader beware. With that in mind, read on to see if your favorite assassination has landed ..."
The end times are here! In video games, at least. Here are nine killer examples of nukes rockin' the world in video games and the fallout that comes after. Pun totally intended.
"It’s been a wonderful and sometimes bumpy ride for Microsoft with their Xbox 360 console. Improving in areas that they were weak with the original Xbox, Microsoft has pushed forward and continued to work closely to secure third-party publishing deals to keep their fans happy. It’s no surprise that our Top 10 Xbox 360 Games Since Launch is dominated by third-party software."
"Many conservatives are vocalizing their hopes that the newly empowered Republicans tackle the issue of video game regulation. But perhaps they wouldn't be so quick to villainize gaming if they checked out these games and their underlying conservative messages."
In honor of the snowstorm that's blanketed much of the country, it's time to spotlight the best snowy, icy winter levels in video game history. Grab your jacket!
"It fills your living room with plastic tat, fills the games market to saturation point and features gameplay in which the controller feels more like an obstacle to immersion than a conduit between you and the game on the screen. Of course all these charges could be levelled at any game in the Guitar Hero or Rock Band series, but for sheer disappointment Guitar Hero II steps forward on behalf of its fellows to take the award.
Contrast the endless series of heavy metal peaks on the soundtrac..."
"Call of Duty: Black Ops has shattered the record for the biggest gaming launch of all time. This factoid may have made you wonder what other games launched big, and what kind of money they brought in."
"As video games become more and more robust in terms of content and story development, we are greeted with characters that can feel very human. Though they live mainly off of scripted cues, they play a vital role in how games impact us."
"5. Vending Machine Trapper - BioShock 2
This one barely made the list for two reasons - it was obviously a significant part of the game and BioShock 2 didn’t host the most popular multiplayer experience. However, nothing was more frustrating than running up to a vending machine to refill on Eve or Ammo only to be greeted by a laughing clown and a bomb in the family jewels. You could freeze the traps but almost never thought to do so. Yes, there was a big blinking red light but it was hard ..."
"Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has recently made the statement that, “The Call of Duty franchise is a force of nature. I think it is the closest thing this generation has to a Star Wars. I think it’s unique and bigger than any musical act or any movie franchise in that capacity.” While we appreciate Mr. Kotick’s enthusiasm for his product, we don’t believe there’s been a game that has come close to the cultural impact that Star Wars had when it was released in 1977. However, we humbly submit fiv..."

"Before I begin abusing Modern Warfare 2 more than an Asian hooker gets abused on a daily basis, I must let you know that I’m a huge fan of Modern Warfare 2 and the Call of Duty series as a whole. To hell with it, I’d even say that Modern Warfare 2 is one of my all-time favourite games. However, even the best of games have their problems and unfortunately Modern Warfare 2 has more problems than a paraplegic who has a bomb attached to their wheelchair. Join me as I talk through my top 10 issues..."
"This generation has seen its fair share of epic titles, captivating narratives and intense action -- but not very many iconic, unique, or influential game characters in comparison to previous generations. Luckily though, there are a few of these figures in the current generation."

"If there is one thing that leaves gamers drooling over themselves in anticipation for an upcoming title, it’s a great trailer. This year treated gamers to more than the fair share of exceptional videos that showcased some exquisitely awesome games. I tried to keep it with titles that have either released in 2009 or will release early 2010, thus there will be no Halo Reach here. Although Reach has an awesome trailer and you can read my trailer dissertation here, I suggest you sit back and for ..."
All Age Gaming has gone through all the Playstation 3 games that have been released to the end of 2009 and have come up with the Top 10 Games on the Playstation 3 so far. Although there are many great games scheduled to release over the coming months, any of the titles on this list are worthy additions to your collection.
"As 2009 came to a close, we posted a weeklong look at our favorite games of 2009. However, those 40 titles (including the eight we ultimately chose to honor as "The Best of the Best") were far from the only good games released last year. And did our picks match up with the rest of the game industry? But most importantly, what we really wanted to know was which game was truly the best game of 2009."
John Elliott from All Age Gaming has plowed through all the Xbox 360 games that have been released to date and has come up with the Top 10 Games on the Xbox 360. Although there are many great games scheduled to release over the coming months, any of the titles on this list are worthy additions to your collection.
"Like Jack Bauer, Chuck Norris and Neil Patrick Harris rise above the station of mortal men and become legendary, so do some video games. While 2009 was a tough year for the industry, both financially and creatively, that didn't stop a handful of titles from being enshrined into the video game canon."
"Video games have taken on a life of their own. They can show us things that we could never dream of, giving us compelling and visceral narratives that books and films couldn’t necessarily offer the gaming community. But while these experiences are endowed with a unique quality in regards to gameplay and graphics, there is an aspect that is at times overlooked, which many games hinge their entire livelihood upon. For many titles, music defines the game. After all, an entire genre has been buil..."
"I don’t know about you, but my Xbox has had enough. After only a year on duty, the damned thing growls like the incessant rumble of an aged car engine near the end of its functionality. That is what inspired us to dub this years GOTY ballet for the Xbox 360 "Least Likely to Brick Your Shit." Amazingly my 360 actually got me through playing these great, console killing games without dying on me completely."
""2009 saw Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's record breaking launch, the return of Nathan Drake in Uncharted 2, new, groundbreaking experiences and traditional classics for the whole family. 2009 was a huge year for any type of gamer, no matter how you slice it.
So it is without further ado that GameZone presents our 2009 Game of the Year Awards. We took a look at the best and the brightest that this year had to offer, wracked our brains together in a rigorous voting process, and now we pres..."
"They were hyped, they were highly anticipated, they were meant to be GREAT. But they simply disappointed the fans and therefore were thrown in the bucket of shame. Ladies an gentleman, read on to find out the titles of the 10 most disappointing computer games of 2009!"
"It’s always interesting to take a look at what titles round out the top 10 most played games on Xbox Live and what it says about the Xbox community. Since the release of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, they’ve both shared some time at the top spot. Same can be said about Call of Duty: World at War, but a little game called Modern Warfare 2 released on November 10th and it should be no surprise to anyone that it became the most played game on Xbox Live."
Celebrating the 360's fourth anniversary IGN takes a look at the top 25 games on the console including some new and old releases over the years. The list is comprised of a wide variety of genres and features XBLA games for those looking for something on a budget. 360 owners can see what they've missed out on and put on their list for the holiday season.
"So as it had come to be foretold, Modern Warfare 2 has descended from the Heavens for all to play and Infinity Ward looked upon us, their beloved Gamers and saw that it was good. Well, at least it was good for Xbox 360 owners. Despite the server issue with the Playstation 3 multiplayer, PC Gamers considerably upset about the lack of features (i.e Dedicated servers), as well as a bit of broken street date fever all over the world, it seems that Modern Warfare 2 has been considerably well-recei..."
Here are 10 things you can do on November 10th rather than play Modern Warfare 2. Includes releases, births, deaths and other curious occurances on this "Historic" Date. Why just play a Marine when you can actually hang out with one?
"Happy holidays everyone! Err…wait a minute. While it does feel like the holidays – thanks no less to Activison’s gift wrapping of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on November 10 – we still have a few weeks to go until Thanksgiving shows up and Black Friday follows. November is going to be a splendid month for gaming for those who are waiting for the holidays to come sooner rather than later. November should literally be called “Squember” since four out of our top five titles turn out to be sequ..."
All Age Gaming's John Elliott looks at the tough decision most of us face over the next few months each year, what games(s) do I buy with so many good ones coming out? John gives us his Top 5 games to get for the Xbox 360 this holiday season.
