Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

"The basis for the idea was a re imagining of the Mortal Kombat franchise from the original premise but mixing modern muti-player and dismemberment game design with the original fighting mechanic.

These are the only four characters I designed and presented with the pitch. The game idea isn't going to happen now that I no longer work there. I still would like to one day redesign all the rest of the original characters if I ever find the time."

We've been seeing the symptoms for a while and now it's finally happened. Midway's actually filed for bankruptcy as they have about $150 million in debt. With Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's success came the knowledge that it was the final chapter in Mortal Kombat. (Especially with Mocap's ending!) But Midway has announced that they'll be re-releasing three of their games, Deception, Armageddon and Shaolin Monks in one disc: Mortal Kombat: Kollection... Exclusively for the PS2. Sorry to all of us Wii and XBOX owners.

"As part of one of the goriest videogame series to ever rip the spine out of its rabid fan base, the exclusive inclusion of Mortal Kombat Armageddon to Nintendo’s drive to destroy the dangerous ‘for the kids’ hardware label that unjustly killed off the GameCube, is certainly a blood-encrusted step forward."

"It has arrived late, but the Wii version of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is still fun and still a very deep fighter. The new gesture based controls seem like a bad idea, and yet in practice they feel responsive and satisfying to perform… most of the time. Very occasionally, your movements won't be recognized, which is troubling. It may just be that our gestures are performed inaccurately, but of course that also means the majority of novice players will undoubtedly encounter the same issue and ..."
