Daav from NoobFeed.com takes his chance at glory in this open world where nations may rise and fall at your own discretion. There is a decent game to be found in Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword, with some unique traits, but the novel-based standalone from a Nobel Prize winner does suffer from several issues.
"My love for the Mount and Blade games is no secret. I first played the original Mount and Blade several years ago, and was absolutely gob-smacked when Warband came out. It really proves that quality has nothing to do with budget.
Now when I found out I could take a look at With Fire & Sword, I was over the moon. I had heard bits and pieces about it, but only what was being discussed on the forums in Taleworld. Needless to say, when I played the game, I was not disappointed."
"I’ll start out by welcoming you to ‘Sound Bytes’; our indie game orientated musical rundown thingy. With you arriving at the birthplace of something potentially magical, (well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves), you may find sights and sounds have yet to be fully developed. Especially sounds. Don’t worry though as we’ll get through this together and break on through to the other side.
Although the humble indie game soundtrack can often be overlooked it is starting to become commonplace as ..."
"As much as it pains me to say it, the graphics are what you would expect from an indie game. They aren’t bad, but far from cutting-edge. The have chosen to go for the realistic approach rather than an artistic or cartoony style, which works at a glance but after a while you might become fed up with the stupidly small trees and lack of anything not made from stone. The models are still rudimentary at best and the animations are slower than a slug trying to climb out of a greasy bin bag."
"You can amass a legendary army and establish your empire if that's what you want, but the beauty about Warband is that there's never any pressure on you to do anything in particular. Players can spend their time as an aspiring merchant, a wanderer doing odd jobs for survival, a manhunter, the vassal of a king..."
"Paradox Interactive has officially announced their presence at this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. GDC '10 marks a particularly momentous occasion for Paradox, as the company will show-off a playable version of their debut console title, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West, along with a stellar line-up of upcoming PC titles, highlighted by the long awaited Mount & Blade: Warband."
"The game plays as would be expected online, with the familiar gameplay modes of Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Conquest, Battle, and Siege. Players get the opportunity to buy new equipment prior to each round, increasing statistics of attack, defence and other variables, but the new equipment must be purchased again in every new game. Like ShadowRun, this system gives the player flexibility and allows them to experiment, mixing-and-matching the various options with little worr..."
"We've known about Mount & Blade here on the Codex ever since the game was called "Way of the Sword" and then later "Warrider" before finally getting the name it's known by today. It was originally touted to us as an "Action-RPG" by armagan, the game's Turkish developer so naturally, we paid attention and tried it out. That was back in the heady days when the game was at version 0.2 something and was available for sale on a "buy the BETA" process. That is, you could pay about $12 USD on the pr..."
Calling all adventurers once again, I bring to you to a new journey Its time to throw down your mage robes and spell books for a tale of truth and realism as the indie developers strike another blow to the corporations with Mount & Blade.
The games should start arriving this week at retailers Wednesday, September 17, and they should have a good truckload this time. Tons of stuff out to coincide with the fall season, and a nice bit of it is very promising. From Dragon Quest IV to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to Crysis Warhead to WAR to Rock Band 2, gamers won't have trouble finding their blockbuster title of choice, though the trouble may be in finding how many one can afford.
"Release:
