"To get gamers in the mood for some fungi fun, SouthPeak Games has also released a specially-created Mushroom Men cookery book, featuring a host of taste-bud tickling recipes… and one terrible dessert."

"SouthPeak Interactive Corporation (developer and publisher for interactive entertainment software) has today announced that its new title, Mushroom Men, is coming to Wii and Nintendo DS tomorrow in the UK. "Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars" (for Nintendo Wii) and "Rise of the Fungi" (for Nintendo DS) will offer gamers a unique adventure, from the perspective of a little hero with a big mission to accomplish."

"SouthPeak Interactive Corporation has today announced that a duo of mighty mushroom games are coming to Wii and NintendoDS this March. Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars on Wii and Rise of the Fungi on NintendoDS, offer gamers a unique Platform adventure, from the perspective of a tiny hero with a big mission."

"Mushrooms have played an important role in videogames for decades, ever since Shigeru Miyamoto thought it'd be amusing if his plumber protagonist powered up by eating a gnarled, red-spotted unappealing fungus. Mario has been snacking on them since, and in a variety of colors and flavors. Mushrooms seem to make great platforms too, with Samus hopping about on them in at least one Metroid game. They've been enemies in numerous games, and long-minded gamers will recall Commander Keen zapping the..."

"TWGN - There are several different species of mushrooms that Pax runs into. Nearly all of them have their own set of classes - Sage, Scout, and Heavy. If you could choose to be one, which would you be? Were there any other species you were considering to appear in the game?

Red Fly - I would have to go with a Heavy. When push comes to shove, you need the size. We actually had over 80 characters designed for the game, but when in production and scope is a factor, we had to narrow what ..."

Mainly a light week this time 'round, but you're okay with that because you're playing Mirror's Edge, or Fallout 3, or LittleBigPlanet, or whatever else, yeah?

A note about Grand Theft Auto IV on the PC: Rockstar has stuck our adorable little friend SecuROM in there this time.

"Gamecock's put out a press release this morning with some new screens of the Wii version of Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars, a game described by the publisher as "fanatical fungi war".

The third person action title is the first game from Red Fly Studio, which was founded earlier this year by industry vets from the Star Wars Galaxies, SSX and Deux Ex development teams, so there's some previous form there.

Throwing players into the middle of a mushroom civil war, gamers will "take control of..."

"You know the world's totally gone bizarro when the fungus plays the game.

Red Fly Studio aren't taking the release of their Wii/DS title lightly, promoting the game with pre-order goodies, a Jam Cruise featuring support from Primus' Les Claypool (which you can win tickets for onboard), and the Space Squid writing contest. Details below.

Red Fly Studios, the same bunch working on the Ghostbusters video game, are set to release another title this October. Called Mushroom Men, it clearly isn't your ordinary game, but that looks to be for the better.

The DS version is subtitled Rise of the Fungi (RotF), while the Wii edition is subtitled Spore Wars (SW). Both tell separate stories in the culture of the Mushroom Men. RotF takes the player along the early history of the Men, when they're just learning to walk, communicate, int...
