Everyone knows that racing game fanatics love tearing up the road with the vehicles we use in game. Not only do we want to win at whatever game mode it is, we want to look cool doing it. What better way then to see these moments on the replay after a said race right? Well the past couple of years we've seen a huge drought in any sort of replay function in some of our favorite racing franchises or new ones. What's the cause of such an absence? and are racing replays gone for good?
"Need for Speed: Shift is more of an experiment than anything else: the first racing game from EA on the iPad. And it succeeds, greatly in fact, save for a few easy in-game hacks. They built a simple, intuitive game and it’s one of the first actually enjoyable portable racing games that have come out in years. At $15, we’re hard pressed to simply announce it an excellent buy, but a game this good would otherwise be $30-$40 on today’s other portable consoles, so realistically this is a great deal."
Electronic Arts detailed the sales milestones reached by FIFA 10, Madden NFL 10, The Sims 3, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Need for Speed Shift during the past fiscal year.
"Ever sat around in a group of friends discussing games, when suddenly another friend enters and begins to label gaming childish? You are not alone, as every so often there will be those who give gaming the dreaded tag of being “for kids”. On behalf of all gamers, GamesCastLive would like to dedicate this article to all those out there who have decided that gaming is better suited for the ‘wee’ ones. Here are our five reasons to justify why grown men love their consoles."
"Formed in 2009, En Masse is comprised of talented veterans whose collective portfolio reflects the most recognised and celebrated IPs from leading companies including Blizzard Entertainment, Microsoft Corp., Electronic Arts Inc., ArenaNet and NCsoft. The first official En Masse title scheduled for release in North America and Europe will be the highly anticipated MMORPG PC title, TERA."
"Electronic Arts Inc. has today announced that, after a seven year hiatus, the venerable automaker and elite racing brand Ferrari is returning to Need for Speed. On February 16th 2010, players of Need for Speed SHIFT on Xbox 360 will be able to download a content pack that delivers ten extraordinary Ferrari cars including the 430 Scuderia and the ultra-rare FXX and F50 GT. Now, Need for Speed SHIFT players will feel the rush of being in the driver’s seat, realizing the true driver’s experience..."
The Ferrari will be returning to the Need for Speed series for the first time since 2002 in the 360's version of Need for Speed Shift. Along with the 10 different types of Ferrari, eight new events and five new Achievements will tag along with the DLC.
The classic Need for Speed series had, in recent years, waned in quality; what once was the king of arcade racers had lost the magic and become somewhat stale. EA is pleased to say that's all changed now though, in keeping with their shift in policy.
Having played the SHIFT demo, it's hard to disagree. Anyone tried Nitro?
TorrenFreak lists the most pirated games of 2009 with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, grabbing top spot. It has had over 4.1 million downloads within the 2 months of it's release. Other games on the list include The Sims 3, Prototype, and Need for Speed Shift.
Amazon has posted their list of "Cyber Monday" deals and while many of them are repeats from Black Friday, there's still plenty of deals to be had. Some of the games on sale include Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Dragon Age: Origins, Left 4 Dead 2, Need For Speed: Shift, The Beatles: Rock Band, WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2010, a great deal on Tekken 6 and discounts on every recent Guitar Hero title.
"Electronic Arts Inc. has announced an all-new Team Racing Pack for the critically-acclaimed Need for Speed SHIFT. The Downloadable Content (DLC) pack takes online racing to the next level with an action-packed new race mode and five renowned racing cars - all for free."
"The Need for Speed series has been a staple of the racing genre for the past fifteen years, spanning three console generations. Need for Speed: Shift attempts to bring the series back to a simulation style, leaving the police chases and high flying acrobatics for later installments of the series. In development for the past two years, can this installment turn the corner, and bring a breath of fresh air to this aging series?"
"Aside from that the game’s developers have made some … let’s call them “interesting” choices about what should be realistic and what should keep a more arcade-like feel. One wrong tap of the steering can send you spearing off the track at 200km/h, for example, but (on all but the highest of difficulty settings) this will only result in you bouncing around for a bit and then continuing on your way. No paying for repairs, no nothing."
"My black BMW M3 rips through the carnage of smoke, debris, and overturned vehicles, barely missing the barrier wall, all the while skidding through the tight turn in perfect drifting form. As I escape unharmed, my adrenaline dissipates and the satisfaction of seeing my score bar light up with hundreds of points makes the situation all the more classic. This is what racing should be like, and yet it comes from the most unlikely racing series of all time: Need for Speed."
"Electronic Arts Inc. has announced today that the Need for Speed franchise has surpassed 100M units sold life to date. The newest release, Need for Speed SHIFT, pushes the franchise over the 100M mark, making it the best-selling racing brand in the gaming world."
"It wasn’t too long ago when we found out that the Need For Speed franchise would be no more. Now it seems that three new iterations of the franchise are set to hit consoles in the next year with Need for Speed: Shift being the first. But is it really worth reviving the Need For Speed?
I feel that Need For Speed: Most Wanted was the best in the series up to now. If you’re wondering why I make such a bold statement, well because the game was fun and exciting. It was a mix between sim and a..."
"Electronic Arts has teamed up with GAME to create the ultimate videogame driving challenge, the Need For Speed SHIFT UK Championships, offering race fans the chance to win a Nissan 350gt. With heats taking place from 28th August to 20th September, the final rounds took place this weekend."
"But this could be the most embarrassing fail of all.
When navigating menus today while connected to Xbox Live the game suddenly crashed again. When my rage had subsided and I got a better look at the screen, I was pretty shocked at what I saw.
Was my Xbox 360 version of Need for Speed Shift really trying to access the Playstation Store? Microsoft are not going to be happy about this."
"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced a line-up of PlayStation 3 (PS3) bundles for the holiday season, consisting of a PS3 with a 250GB Hard Disc Drive and one of a selection of software and content, including FIFA 10 and Need for Speed SHIFT. The bundles will be available throughout retail in October 2009."
"Long gone are the neon, sexy cover girls and police chases, and in comes an address towards more realistic Motorsport. Fantasy still has a great bearing on the proceedings, with cars responding in a much more natural manner than the meticulous realism of the aforementioned simulators and rivals flipping at often the slightest of shunts, however this can’t be said to be a detraction from the player’s enjoyment, as Need for Speed SHIFT crosses this accessibility with the often less enthused int..."
"Jump into the cockpit of one of these five cars and find out why Need for Speed SHIFT is the most critically acclaimed Need for Speed game in years. Players collecting enough stars in the demo based racing performance will unlock the ultimate racing machine; the Pagani Zonda F."
"Electronic Arts has released a demo of Need for Speed: Shift for the PC. ‘So what?’ you ask, justifiably. Well, the webpage that provides the PC demo download confirms that a PS3 demo will reach the PlayStation Store on October 1st 2009. Yes, we are aware the game is in stores already, but some of us still believe in the ‘try before you buy’ principle!"
Cameron from RatedG4Gamer shows us the in's and out's for EA Games latest edition to the Need For Speed Series. Will Need For Speed Shift just crash and burn? Watch the video review to find out.
"The remainder of this year and the beginning of 2010 promises an onslaught of racing games for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. We take a look at some of the best titles that will be available in the near future."
"Electronic Arts have today released the first batch of screenshots for the forthcoming iPhone and iPod Touch version of Need for Speed SHIFT. Currently set for a simultaneous release with the home console versions on 18th September 2009, Need for Speed SHIFT seems to be a considerably different proposition to the aforementioned Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases."

"Eau Rouge, Pouhon and Blanchimont; the holy trinity of corners that form the backbone of Belgium's Spa Francorchomps, long recognised as one of the greatest tracks in modern-day use, and have bloodied many a nose in the past. Eau Rouge is a fast uphill switchback, long since tamed by single-seater cars and their pounds of downforce but still a thrill in its own right. Pouhon's retained its challenge, teasing drivers in with a fast entry and then slapping them in the face with its unforgiving ..."
"Gamers can log onto www.shift.eagames.co.uk for the Need for Speed Virtual Driver. Do you fancy driving a fast car around a high performance track or having your photo signed by a gorgeous model? Log onto www.shift.eagames.co.uk to experience it all and then forward onto your friends."
"What began as a surprise announcement at SIGGRAPH 2009 has quickly become an industry-wide movement to ensure the adoption of Stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) gaming in consumer homes around the world."
"Following yesterday’s announcement that Electronic Arts has teamed up with retailer GAME to create the Need For Speed SHIFT UK Championships, Electronic Theatre can today reveal the venues at which players will be able to participate. Starting today, August 28th 2009, gamers will be able to put their racing skills to the test as they compete to post the fastest lap times on the forthcoming Need for Speed SHIFT, the latest edition of EA Games' renowned Need for Speed series."
"Heats will take place at 49 GAME stores, with the fastest winners going on to face off in a final set of time trials to be held at Thorpe Park, Surrey, on September 26th, 2009. The 49 finalists will then compete to set a quick lap time worthy of being crowned the Need for Speed SHIFT UK Champion, with the winner receiving the keys to a brand new Nissan 350Z GT sports car. There will also be a host of other spot prizes for participants in individual stores."
To show you just how real the game Need for Speed: Shift is, Slightly Mad Studios has released a teaser trailer featuring real drivers. The drivers give brief descriptions about what it is like to be a professional driver, and more videos like this will likely be released in the future.
Pre order incentives seems to be the latest trend these days. Need for Speed Shift is following the crowd with its own Pre Order incentives. Reserve Need For Speed Shift and you can receive exclusive access to the BMW E92 M3 GT2. Check out the video.
"According to the U-DECIDE Initiative, a well received study of modern gamers, 93% of survey respondents want to see game developers support stereoscopic 3D technology. The industry’s answer is to start development of The S-3D Gaming Alliance, an organization that is 100% focused on making stereoscopic 3D Gaming possible through standards, education, and product adoption.
Some of S3DGAs founding companies include Blitz Games Studios, DDD, iZ3D, Jon Peddie Research, TDVision Corp, XpanD, and..."
"Need for Speed: Shift steps away from the amateur, illegal street racing of the recent NFS titles (except ProStreet) and instead presents professional, track-based racing. Slightly Mad Studios promises a driving simulator that is centered on the driving experience rather than the collection of cars of other simulators, such as Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport. This realistic focus extends not only to the tracks and cars, but the physics and customization as well."
"This years Need For Speed: Shift is developed by Slightly Mad Studios. This game is featuring over 70 cars with plans for more with DLC. Visual and performance upgrades can be made with in car customisation. There are real life and ficticious American and European race tracks. NFS:S is also showing off a new cockpit driver camera view. Acquisition of driving points comes from driving clean or dirty. Some of the cars featured in the game are the Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R, Mazda RX-7, BMW M3 GT2..."
"Something which I like to do on a regular basis is thinking about future game titles and franchises. It can range from looking at released (or leaked) screenshots, videos and other media and anticipating gameplay or thinking about the different vehicles, tracks and modes which the developers will have on offer. Something particular which came to mind though was the upcoming simulation racer Need For Speed SHIFT, due for release this November by developer Slightly Mad Studios."
The senior vice president over at EA Games Europe, Patrick Soderlund, had some tough things to say about the competition. While he actually enjoyed Split/Second, he felt that Blur was "completely underwhelming."
However, Polyphony Digital and Turn 10 Studios aren't the only ones who can talk trash. Soderlund didn't have anything to say about PD's Gran Turismo 5. However, he did say this about Forza: “Forza, I’m very confident we have a better game than them to be honest." Let's see if EA c...

"Spanning 37 years, players will be able to fill their virtual garage with a variety of cars from classic road machines (1972 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R) to the latest additions on the showroom floor (2010 Ford Shelby GT500). As for the track list, EA has promised the game will include 18 locations."
"It's almost 2 weeks until the Electronic Entertainment Expo for 2009 and it is hyping up to be one of the best yet. After the less than great few years E3 have had with a smaller and less exciting environment, publishers and developers a like are looking forward to showing off their future products. Here are a few of the many notable events and products which you should get excited about - whether they happen or not is another question?"
After the flop that was the last Need For Speed game, EA decided to change things up. Bringing a new style and most notably changing the gameplay into a sim racer opposed to an arcade racer. Hopefully things will pay off as the game is looking beautiful.
"Players are thrust into the loud, intense, and athletic experience of racing a car from the driver’s perspective through the combination of perception based G-forces, the hyper reality of the cockpit view, and the all-new brutally disorienting crash dynamic. Need for Speed SHIFT features an accurate, accessible physics-based driving model that allows you to feel every impact, every change of track surface and every last bit of grip as you push yourself to the edge."
"NFS: Shift is geared towards to the sim-head, NFS: Nitro fulfills the needs of arcade lovers and NFS: World Online is an online MMO style racer where real life people can match up and compete to be king of the streets.
My attention hovers around SHIFT though, because of the audience it targets. I am a gear head myself, so seeing a game that was sim-oriented coming from an exclusive arcade line is quite interesting. It’s also on the spotlight because it’s coming out for the big systems incl..."
"Last month, we had brought you 11 small screen shots from Need For Speed: Shift, but had to remove them due to embargo restrictions. Well we finally got to post 8 of them, and here they are once again in high-res format."
