Allison Boyer at Binge Gamer has been doing something new, a weekly collection of gaming and geek related contests going on. She hand picks these to make sure you don't need to sign up to anything with a credit card or what not, just basically a name, an email, and a post is just about the most required for these. I'll put the contests in the quote and Go to source for the links if you feel like entering.

The first thing you read from this review from Game Focus is "Finally a hockey game on the Wii".

The review starts off talking about gameplay and how much fun the Wii Remote makes it (along with different playing styles and modes, plus the tiny let down of no internet support), then onto the great graphics (with a mention to great sound too), followed on by value and how the Wii version is cheaper than that of the other two main consoles and then finally the conclusion that NHL 2K9 for the...

Here are review scores for a load of recent Nintendo DS and Wii games.

Naruto has made a slip, only achieving a 6.5.

Samba De Amigo (Wii) and Kirby Super Star Ultra (DS) held the spotlight by achieving a 9 each respectively.

The lowest score was for NBA Live 09 All-Play (Wii) with the poor achievement of 4.

The average for the game was around 7-8.

"I’ve always been torn between the two major franchises in puck blasting games for a number of years and it’s always a hard one to call when both the 2K and EA Sports games have so many good and bad points to choose from, so I‘m going to do my best to separate the good from the bad and give you a definitive what’s what with regards to the software dedicated to a frozen puddle and padded men hitting the net and each other."

IGN have put up a review for NHL 2K9.

NHL 2K9 is an ice hockey game from a popular series of EA Sports. It contains in the gameplay a number of different techniques performable with the stick, more "super star" moves along with numerous improvements with graphics, engines etc. Unlike its predecessors, it has online capabilities. It also contains minigames.

With the release date so close, a review to perk up interest is of no surprise!

"Here’s a list of this weeks U.S. game releases. The most popular games are Spore on PC / Mac, Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise on DS, Yakuza 2 on PS2, and NHL 09 & NHL 2k9 on multiple platforms. On the downloadable games front we’ve got today’s Wii Shop titles Groovin’ Blocks, Cho Aniki, Final Soldier, as well as Samurai Shodown II, RocketBowl, and Shotest Shogi on Xbox Live Arcade (updates Wednesday). American McGee’s Grimm: The Devil and His Three Golden Hairs will join the GameTap lineup ..."

Flippin' sweet week to be a DS owner, and well, if you're reading this (as in, on a PC), it's also a good time to be a gamer. Spore comes out for the DS and PC, sports fans get NHL 2K9 and NHL '09 to choose from on all consoles, and DS owners also get Viva Pinata, the fabulously old school RPG Mazes of Fate (finally!), another interesting looking RPG Lock's Quest, a new color for the system, and more.

"2K Sports made kind of a big deal about the impending release of NHL 2K9 being "the first and only officially licensed NHL and NHLPA video game for Wii" but we didn't know how serious the Take-Two label was. They got Mario—yes, that Mario—to help drum up enthusiasm for video game hockey, waggle-style at last night's 2008 NHL Awards in Toronto. Normally, our eyes glaze over when someone brings up hockey video games that were released after NHL 94 for the Genesis, but when Mario foregos pimpi..."
