"Looking back at days of old it's interesting to see where we started and how the evolution of consoles has changed from being dedicated videogame machines to the multimedia platforms we have today. Remember your first console or home computer, whether it was the Atari 2600 or the later generation Playstation, we all have a history of playing video games. Mine was the Commodore 64 a computer that would load games from audio cassette or floppy disks. In 1988 I would own my first cartridge based..."

"Nintendo has been having massive success in South Korea since it launched the DS Lite there back in January 2007. Last week, on 15th April, Nintendo Korea finally unleashed the updated DSi format in the usually PC-centric territory. However, rather than sliding it onto the market without much hype, it has enlisted the help of the most popular pop group in South Korea right now, 소녀시대, pronounced So-Nyeo Shi Dae and often referred to simply as SNSD (which translates as Girls' Generation in Engl..."
"With news of the new Nintendo 3DS still floating around, there is actually another iteration of the handheld that is soon to release; the Nintendo DSi XL. Just as the name suggests, it is a much larger version of the already released Nintendo DSi. So the big question on mostly everyone's mind at the moment is if you should consider purchasing this version. Well read on for my review of the Nintendo DSi XL and see for yourself if it's worthy of your money."
"Following previous success in the field, the London MCM Expo is looking for gamers to help set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Handheld Game Console Party, which is currently held by Australia. Taking place on 29th May 2010, all people have to do is attend the show and bring their Nintendo DS system and a game along when the record attempt will be made at noon in the MCM Expo Theatre."
"Arriving today in Europe, the launch of the new Nintendo DSi XL will set high street stores alight today. Already having seen significant success in Japan, with bigger screens and a wider viewing angle, you will be able to experience your favourite games like never before with the Nintendo DSi XL."
"Back on 11th March, 2005 in Europe, Nintendo originally unleashed what was meant to be its ‘Third Pillar’ system, the touch-screen enabled DS, which was named as such due to its dual-screen setup (although some deemed it the ‘Developer System’ due to its lower development costs and the simplicity to create games on it). After seeing off the Game Boy Advance and GameCube to become the company’s main platform prior to the release of the Wii, Nintendo capitalised on the new audience that had bee..."
"The new member of the Nintendo DS family is launching in two colours - wine red and dark brown, with a glossy sheen on top and matt finish on the underside that provides excellent grip when resting on a table or other surface during gameplay."
"Nintendo Wii stormed the field with software sales of over 18 million units in the UK, retaining the title of Number One software format by units sold. Sony's PlayStation 3 also saw a dramatic increase by 14 per cent of software units sold, from 10.4 million units in 2008 to 11.9 million units in 2009. Overall, in 2009 UK consumers bought a total of 74.6 million videogame units - which works out at more than one per person in the UK."
"As we start a new decade, Nintendo has announced that there are now over 40 million Nintendo DS and 20 million Wii consoles being played across Europe. In fact, the Nintendo DS family, including Nintendo DS Lite and the latest addition, Nintendo DSi, has not only sold more than any other videogame console in Europe but it has also seen the fastest growth in European video game console history, reaching this sales figure in less than 5 years."
"Big N considering an "always on" connection for its popular handheld
While Nintendo has always maintained that it doesn't want to compete with mobile phone manufacturers, the company has revealed that it is considering the notion of adding some form of online data connection to its DS console.
Chatting to the Financial Times, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned that he was attracted by the idea of bringing some form of "always on" connection to the device - a similar concept to Am..."
This the newest The Bender, sees the return of the guys from Philadelphia. We chat about what shenanigans went on at the GameX convention (both good and bad) and also find time to catch up with the news of the week. Including that new DSi "Old People Edition", the sillyness that will come out of the Modern Warfare 2 leaked footage, and I think we might have snuck some PSPgo jabs in before the end. Enjoy!

Will the production of the new Nintendo DSi LL (Dubbed DSi XL in Europe) provide a more comfortable gaming experience for the larger DS gamer? Stageselect.com wrote a review titled "Dsi LL - Does Size Matter" as a means of investigating the differences and enhancements of the new DS. With the Dsi being under a year old, does the production of this system indicate some sort of pressure felt by Nintendo? Will this pressure mean poor craftsmenship of the console? With it's Japanese release on No...

"And with the new colours comes a series of new benefits including the new Flipnote Studio and Facebook feature pre-installed. The Facebook feature allows users to post their photographic creations straight to their Facebook profile to get the most out of the fun image manipulation tools in the Nintendo DSi Camera. Flipnote Studio enables users to conveniently make notes on their Nintendo DSi or get creative and animate their own mini-movies. Upload and share your creations online via a speci..."
In Japan, a DS game called Nanashi No Game Me is about the protagonist encountering a video game that curses the player and they must absolve themselves from the curse by playing the game.
It looks and sounds like an innocent 8-bit platformer in the initial play...until it corrupts itself.
At first it looks cheery and happy. Then the game takes on a more solemn appearance. The music gets melancholy. The difficulty ramps up. Suddenly you're in this prison with walls painted red, ...

"Nintendo is ramping-up its fight against videogames piracy by expanding its European anti-piracy team and appointing its first European anti-piracy counsel. DSi enhanced games, such as Korg DS-10 Plus, are already out or are in the development process. However, there will be a new generation of DS games that will be made exclusively for the DSi and will take advantage of its hardware. Rumor has it that these games will be available this fall.
"BLAZE have announced the release of two different ways to protect your Nintendo DSi console against this, so no matter what your preference in style, they have it covered. These new offerings from BLAZE are designed to not only protect your console but to keep them accessible and ready to use."
There's a Nintendo fan out there with an interesting sense of humor. Whoever this person is decided to buy a PSPgo UK URL and have it lead to the official Nintendo DS / DSi site instead.
Now the http://www.pspgo.co.uk/ URL takes you to said DS / DSi hardware site. The official PSPgo page at PlayStation.com is still intact, unscathed.
"That said, I haven’t quite disregarded Wii in the same way that many of my peers have. In fact, the occasional release in the system still gets me excited enough to put down that pre-order, despite the obviously beneficial connections that being the editor of Electronic Theatre brings. However, a very clear symptom of either the change in my taste, or perhaps the videogame industry’s perception of my taste, is that for the first time in nearly twenty years I did not purchase the latest Ninten..."

This function will be available after 5 p.m. Pacific Time, with a free downloadable System Update."

E3 2009 is set to be a lot bigger and better than last year's E3 and Kotaku was able to snap some pictures of what the lucky visitors will be able to see. I must say, it looks pretty impressive, especially the Final Fantasy XIII stairs.
Ever wanted to talk over the internet without having to resort to buying a game? How about making actual phone calls to anywhere in the world and traditional IM functionality to boot? TechRadar asks a Skype developer about the possibility of Skype on the DSi and doesn't get completely shut down!
Skype is a free download on PCs, Macs, and is used on several devices. It costs no money to make direct peer-to-peer voice chat and traditional IM conversations (Skype protocol only, no MSN, or ...
"In conjunction with the launch of the Nintendo DSi in the U.S., the Japan-based video game console company commissioned artist Sean Kenney to create a large Lego sculpture of its latest handheld. And, boy, did he make one.
The details on this scale model are simply amazing, right down to the stylus slot and power connector. In fact, if it wasn't for the person standing beside it in the picture, it'd be hard to tell that this isn't just a pixelated photograph of the DSi. If you want to see ..."
