"Most of the games in my Backlog are things I bought just because they were on sale, but I also have a bunch of artsy-smarsty games that I bought because I felt like I should play them. Some designers specialize in this sort of weird game, and they develop a cult following for anything they make. One such fellow is Goichi Suda, or Suda51. He is responsible for No More Heroes and the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw. But before those games, he created a Gamecube title called Killer 7. This has be..."
GamePodunk editor MarcusEstrada reports on Guild01 for 3DS, which will be published by level-5. Details include dishing out who is behind the designs of the 4 games that are within the Guild01 game. Does this look like a good packages to get your hands on? Read on for more details.
Got a PS Move? Want a fast paced action game with tons of gore? Then No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise is the perfect game. NMH is a fun romp for those who have never played any of the other games on the Wii. It is also one of the better games with Move support
"There's going to No More Heroes for a third time, according to game developer Goichi Suda, who claims the title will probably be seeing its first release on Nintendo's Wii U platform sometime in the future"
Bright Hub takes cult classic Killer7 for a spin to decide if the title still holds up to gaming's ever-changing standards. Does the game still look and play as good as it did back in 2005?
Suda51 is easily one of the most interesting video game directors in the business. His unique concepts and sense of style have managed to create some of the most compelling gaming experiences ever seen on a console. Bright Hub takes a look at Suda51's complex mind and delivers a concise overview of the director's awesome career.
Which is the better character between Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes and Jack Cayman from MadWorld? Bright Hub compares and contrasts the two protagonists and gives you a clear cut winner.
We're on a roll! This time, No More Heroes' Bad Girl is being featured on TK-Nation. The sweetly-dressed, crazy-as-all-hell assassin from the game is being wonderfully portrayed here by cosplayer Tasha. Got to love a psychotic beauty, eh?
No More Heroes Wii developer Suda51, recently revealed in an interview with RevoGamers that they have many, many plans for games to bring to the 3DS but weren't very forthcoming about what they had install.
"I just want to start off by apologizing for the title of this article. It’s a lie. In no way will these games help you beat any kind of heat. Unless the games are made out of ice cubes and you play them by dumping them down your pants, these titles will not help you survive the sun which is trying oh-so-desperately to kill you."
Despite some shovelware, the Wii is home to countless amazing exclusive titles. Such titles deserve follow-ups, yet not all of them have received an additional entry in their respective franchise. Here are five Wii games that could really use the sequel treatment.
"SUDA51 now has a long list of global releases to his name, each of which has received a mixed critical response and performance at retail. Perhaps part of his trademark, along with the regular appearance of lucha libre themes and references to anarchistic music works, the likes of Flower, Sun, Rain, Michigan: Report From Hell, Contact, Killer 7 and, of course, No More Heroes have all received a great deal of attention at launch, and each successive title will only benefit from this reputation..."
Destructoid has added No More Heroes' Travis Touchdown to their Badass of the Month Club. After being overlooked and underrated for far too long, as some fans might say, he's finally getting his due respect with the release of his second game. Travis now stands among such recently added badass characters as Dead Rising's Frank West and Guilty Gear XX's I-No.
"In light of some decisions recently made by third party developers, I believe I have some ideas as to why it's hard to sell hardcore third-party titles on the Wii.
So what do you do? The Wii doesn't have all the technical features of the 360 or the PS3. So how can a third party make a Wii hardcore title that can compete with 360 and PS3 hardcore titles? EA actually had a pretty good idea with Dead Space: Extraction. HD console owners who like Dead Space would be interested. Plus, there ar..."
"This generation has seen its fair share of epic titles, captivating narratives and intense action -- but not very many iconic, unique, or influential game characters in comparison to previous generations. Luckily though, there are a few of these figures in the current generation."
Considering it was two years since Travis Touchdown's last rampage, what exactly does a video game character do in his spare time? Apparently surf the net all day, troll for fanboys, play Wii, and take dumps. Ironically enough, you do about half this stuff in the actual game.
"When Electronic Arts announced Dead Space Extraction for the Wii—a follow-up to the million-plus selling PS3, 360, and PC title Dead Space—the company explained that the game would be used as a test case to see whether or not it would develop more Mature-rated Wii games in the future. And according to NPD sales figures, Extraction failed: it sold just 9,200 copies in its first week. So what does this mean for the future of Mature Wii games?"
"Rising Star Games has announced the appointment of a new columnist at their Hoshi Club – the online destination for videogame fans to find out the latest details on Rising Star Games’ videogame releases and insight into Japanese culture. Following the signing of ex-Edge deputy editor, David McCarthy, Alex Sim-Wise shall have her own personal space to write about videogames, Japanese culture and pretty much anything she wishes."
"It can happen to anyone: let's say you are watching a film with your parents, and an insanely vulgar display of crude sexual imagery comes up on the screen. In your mind you are torn between laughing as the film has intended or trying your best to act repulsed as to make your parents think you have a better sense of morals than you really do.
This type of thing can happen in many situations, and they especially occur in video games. Whether it be a mistranslation, or an overt act of zanines..."
Snarkasaur from Spawn Kill hits the interwebs with another installment in his Great Characters of Gaming series. This week finds Snark musing about a batch of lovely ladies and one fellow you probably shouldn't introduce your teenage daughter to.
Edge was able to sit down with Marvelous Entertainment's chief creative officer Yasuhiro Wada, the father of the Harvest Moon series. In the interview, Wada is questioned on the state of the Japanese game industry.
The two major issues that he presents are the fact that Marvelous's name, because they have been responsible for not-so-great games in the past is making people being cautious about sales, along with the industry's overall over-reliance on familiar IPs, crushing original games.
According to series creator, Suda 51, the next No More Heroes game will not be on the Wii. Despite the Wii's hardware sales and customer base, Suda feels that he needs to expand his audience and reach out to other consoles in order to make his ambitions of NMH becoming into a bigger franchise come true. So even if NMH 2 sells decently, he seems to have made up his mind about not keeping the series on the Wii. Given Suda's thoughts on Natal, it seems quite obvious where the series could end up.
With the way things are with the world's economy even the video game industry isn't exempt from feeling the pinch. Marvelous Entertainment is definitely one of those companies who are feeling the heat right now. A staff blog post (presumably by the Managing Director Yasuhiro Wada) states how they feel about their software sales on the Wii. He states how poorly some of their main titles have been selling on the Wii and says that, "I truly have teary eyes. I feel like crying."
However, there...
The first scans from this week's issue of Weekly Famitsu for Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacturer's upcoming action title, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, have hit the internet. The game marks the return of the one and only Travis Touchdown, now ready to do some dual wielding as he takes on the UAA once again. Pivotal character Sylvia Christel is also confirmed to be in the game. A new character, Nathan Copeland is also revealed.
Scans are courtesy of Wii @ Everyday.
"No More Heroes is second only to Mad World in ridiculous, over-the-top violence. Every kill involves gushers of blood spewing forth from the enemy, and every boss battle ends in your opponent’s body being a bunch of bloody stumps. The game isn’t all bloody decapitations though, it’s also ridiculous satire of action movies and games starring a caricature of a violent American who is obsessed with Japan; exactly the kind of stuff you would expect from Suda51."
It's all about the DS this week, fellas, ladies. Sure, there's a few notables for the other platforms (Rune Factory: Frontier on the Wii, Resistance: Retribution on PSP), but none of them can top a whopping six high profile titles, and of such a great variety. Three RPGs, one RTS, one shooter, one racer, and GTA: Chinatown Wars? Never been a better time to be a DS owner than now..
Marvelous, the publisher of the popular Wii title No More Heroes, are hoping to work with more "hardcore" consoles in future. Apparently the Wii, DS and PSP just ain't cutting it.
"To be honest, we always wanted to make a game on the hardcore platforms, but at that time, there wasn't enough money or skill," company president Yasuhiro Wada revealed.
"Oh the Wii, the poor old Wii. It is doing so well for a company that in terms of home consoles was on the brink of doom after the slightly lacking Gamecube, yet it receives a lot of slack for its casual line up although at times it can be a little deserving of its negative praise (need I mention countless amounts of shovelware?). But today we honour those that went by with a bit of a fizzle, some promising that didn't quite meet the standard set by themselves, some fantastic games that didn't..."
""This has been a standout year for No More Heroes and Rising Star Games," said Martin Defries, Rising Star Games managing director. "We've had fantastic critical reception for NMH from the start; to be nominated in so many categories and place in the top ten in many polls proves how well a third party title can do on the Wii if you get it right. We're all really excited to see the next step up in NMH2!""
"Lets not forget about the console wars! There are sale charts, there are fanboys slamming other fanboys data, there are all sorts of ways to decide the winner of the console wars One of them is, of course, checking the exclusive games and thats exactly what were planning to do now. So, the battle is on: PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii which console has the best exclusives?"
"I played through dozens of games this year and tried at least a hundred more. And through them all, I experienced some amazing moments.
As I have done in years previous, here are my picks for My 10 Favorite Moments in Video Games for 2008. (As spoiler-light as I can make them.)"
Stuck for buying a game this Christmas Wii owners? Be stuck no more! There's a great variety of games out there just waiting to be bought and played. The Christmas list is separated into four categories "bargains for the cheap, essentials to prevent embarrassment, socializers to bring everyone together and epics to log the hours". Each game has the name, a picture, price, rating and a description.
What will you buy this Christmas?
"There's nothing like a steamingly camp villain to really set off a game plot with a bang (and a mince and a girly titter). There's just something about a preening effeminate bad guy that instantly undermines a hero, no matter what abilities and attributes said doer of good might have. He's threatening to destroy the world? Pah. He's threatening to destroy the world in lip liner!? Christ, he must be confident.
And that's to say nothing of the countless enemies who are hilariously camp purel..."
"Electronic Theatre has today received clarification of the finer details of the release of No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. Firstly, Europe is the only territory which shall receive two separate retail products, and so it is Rising Star Games responsibility to relay such details. And that they did..."
"Just a few moments ago, Grasshopper Manufacture announced Suda51s latest production. Due for release in the UK 2009 courtesy of Rising Star Games a publisher quickly becoming synonymous with quality productions from overseas re-marketed for a UK audience Travis Touchdown will grace Wii once again in the sequel to No More Heroes.
As an exclusive title for Wii..."
IGN members Matt Casamassina, Mark Bozon and Lucas Thomas have compiled a list of the twenty Nintendo Wii games that every Wii gamer should own.
It's well structured listing the name, publisher, develop, whether it's Wii exclusive, an overview, a profile picture and a video.
The first game on the list is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the last is Excite Truck.
Most of the list is a listing of the most popular games around, however, some are quite surprising.
"Now available with a very budget-orientated price, No More Heroes is a Wii release that may have slipped by under-the-radar for many Wii owners. While those fans of Killer7, Contact and the soon-to-be-released Flower, Sun and Rain: Murder and Mystery in Paradise will no doubt have been following the title throughout its pre-launch press coverage, and many Wii-owning Hardcore Gamers will have most likely picked-up the title mainly due to an unfortunate lack of alternatives aimed at their most..."
In the past, box art was clean and simple, such as the Atari 2600's. Nowadays, we have these amazing designs for box covers, but what if the games we play today had the same covers of the Atari 2600? the-minusworld has created some, such as Halo 3 and No More Heroes.
There's more in the source for you to check out as well.
After EA had announced the collaboration of the forever yesterday at the publisher's annual summer showcase, 1Up's Thierry Nguyen was able to sit down with the two vaunted Japanese developers, Goichi Suda and Shinji Mikami, on the new upcoming game.
The different topics discussed are:
At its summer showcase, publisher Electronic Arts has announced through its EA Partners arm that it has agreed to a publishing deal that will involve iconic Japanese developers Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) and Goichi Suda (Killer7, No More Heroes) in a brand-new horror action game that will hit the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PC.
Shinji Mikami will be the producer for the new game, with Suda 51 directing. Suda's development studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, will be the primary d...
Yes, you read the title correctly. A mobile phone version of No More Heroes is being released soon, though it doesn't include the "violence" or "style" that fans know and love from the Wii version. Instead, you play as a cutesy chibi version of Travis, and looks as deep as any typical mobile game.
Maybe the makers should have taken a page out of Square Enix's book and created a more impressive-looking mobile game like Final Fantasy: Before Crisis.
"If were not jumping through hoops trying to save a kingdom, were fetching some rare Crystal Sword of Infinite Necromancy all out of the kindness of our hearts. What do we get in return? Ah, gee thanks for risking life and limb to do a big ol fancypants favor for me and restoring our world to what it once was from the Dark Ruler of Naught. Heres a medal, young adventurer. Never mind our bustling cleavage. Now get the hell out, street rat. Sorry bout the hard-on.
Whaaaaaa? Faster than..."
"Grasshopper founder Suda51 has told MCV that he first planned for Rising Stars No More Heroes to be an Xbox 360 title.
Speaking exclusively in the No More Heroes Recommended Extra magazine given away free in this weekss MCV magazine, Suda51 said:
Originally, Id wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually. [Marvelous Interactive boss] Wada-san had information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out, so thats why he thought I should produce the ..."
"While No More Heroes is published and distributed by Ubisoft here in the states, newcomers to Suda's designs will quickly find that the abstract creator himself is pretty far from anything Ubisoft has done in the past. Previously Grasshopper Studios (Suda's team) worked with publisher Capcom to bring Killer 7 to the GameCube and PS2, and much like its uber-stylistic predecessor, No More Heroes challenges the bounds of what a conventional game is. With Killer 7, insane style was met with new, ..."
Well, we're already almost a few weeks into 2008, and we've experienced the January slump; it's a hangover from the holiday season, and a teaser for a stocked and loaded February and March. However, that's not to say that there aren't quality games coming out in January. What games are you gonna get that are coming out this week?
Notable games this week:
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS)
Burnout: Paradise (360, PS3)
Endless Ocean (Wii)
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)
No More H...
So, with apparently a pretty meager Wii lineup in January, most people were content with not spending money until Super Smash Bros. Brawl hits February 10.
Well, not anymore.
Ubisoft has confirmed to IGN that No More Heroes has been moved up from its sure-death release date of sometime-around-February-10 to a more palatable and survivable January 22nd. Meaning, we get this hotly anticipated Suda 51 action game in three weeks.
And I thought I could coast to February.
Welcome to this week's Media Create numbers, where we see the holiday fervor in full swing with increased numbers across the board (with exception). The combined strength of new releases and continued strong sales of recently released games both contribute to the numbers this week.
The top software seller this week is our favorite Wii non-game, Wii Fit, pushing very nearly 150k units. Following it in the #2 position is Mario Party DS, selling 107k units. Rounding out the top five are Ta...
So, Nintendo sent out new PR, detailing their new release schedule. Unfortunately, that includes Brawl on Feb. 10
However, there are some very amusing and hidden gems. Assassin's Creed apparently is set to be released February '08, and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin will be releasing on January 21st. There are some delays, including February 4th for Professor Layton (originally Dec. 3). It is shaping up to be a great end of '07/early '08.
Take note that this is a partial list. Most not...
"Ubisoft on Wednesday revealed exclusively to IGN that it has picked up the rights to publish the anticipated Wii action game No More Heroes in North America. The title will release stateside next February, just two months after the Japanese ship date.
No More Heroes is developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and directed by Suda 51, who also helmed the critically acclaimed GameCube adventure title Killer 7. The brutal endeavor pits players as Travis Touchdown, a hardcore anime fan living in ..."
Being one of the first Wii games shown in video form back in E3 2006, it has gathered quite a following with it's unique visual style and over-the-top characters. We haven't seen much of Suda 51's stylized, twisted (and extremely bloody) Wii game since then, but the official Japanese website has confirmed that it will be playable at the Tokyo Games Show!
