The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

"If you are reading this, you either live in some Third World country that doesn't have turkeys, or you snuck away from your Thanksgiving festivities to read about video games on the internet. When your family joins hands around the dinner table and everyone takes turns saying what they're thankful for, your Mom probably doesn't want to hear about how happy you are that there’s no level cap in Skyrim. But we here at Player Affinity know how you feel. Here are few games that we feel thankfu..."

""When I ask myself why Ocarina of Time has been remade, there are both the positive answers and negative ones. I wonder if the reasoning behind the remake is truly appropriate, or more sinister. It worries me, and I try to just ignore it and focus on the fact that soon we will get to play as the Hero of Time in 3D, but I can't drown out those voices. It worries me that deep down; Nintendo just can't get over Ocarina of Time. I mean, was Twilight Princess even really that different?""

Daav from NoobFeed.com goes over all the winners in the Art of Video Games exhibition from the Smithsonian. After about a quarter decade of playing games and a bunch of platforms, NoobFeed goes over what choices are sound and what improvements or better decisions could've made the final cut. Get your nostalgia on!

Throughout the course of gaming history, there have been several titles that revolutionized the medium, introducing new gameplay elements and allowing players to do things never thought possible within the realm of a video game. Bright Hub presents five of the most innovative games to ever hit gaming systems.

"What defines these two heroes is courage. Not merely their possession of the Triforce of Courage, but the determination it takes to keep trying failure after failure, until success comes. It is by no means easy to stand up and fight when all seems hopeless. When plans fail in life it takes courage to keep on trying, but it also takes wisdom to approach it reasonably, and it takes power to execute those plans. It is a cliché, but one of the few that hold true. Nobody except yourself keeps a co..."

"And they got married and lived happily ever after." Romantic love is important to people not only in real life, but in stories and myths. The Zelda games, however, seem to lack any kind of fully developed romance. But the fan fiction, art, and discussions the games have spawned are full of references to romance (yet ironically, you would be hard pressed to find references to dungeon puzzles). Even if the main topic of the fan fiction or fan art has nothing to do with romance, people slip in h..."

"Ocarina of Time is all about change. When Link wakes up in the Hyrule of the future, he finds that Ganondorf has taken over and that the peace he restored throughout the land has shattered. He must learn to accept these changes - embracing the pleasant differences and dealing with the difficult ones. As we follow him throughout his quest, we are invited to journey through the various dimensions of that state of transition in order to make our own peace with the turbulent nature of time."

"The fifth entry in the Legend of Zelda series, Ocarina of Time was the introduction of Link to the 3rd dimension on the Nintendo 64. Released in 1998, Ocarina of Time was immediately popular around the world - especially in Japan and North America. In fact, according to a study by Gameranking.jp, Ocarina of Time remains at 134th for most game sales of all time in Japan. Like the other games in the Legend of Zelda series, Ocarina of Time told the story of a young Hylian boy named Link that set..."

"“Princess Zelda”. Almost every Zelda game contains some reference to its namesake, the Princess of Hyrule, Zelda. Whether she is masquerading as Sheik or Tetra, if she is there in person or in spirit, or if we see her in the game or in a flashback, Zelda is always “Princess” Zelda. It’s as if Nintendo made the word “Princess” her first name and “Zelda” her surname.

I will admit that I am quite the Princess Zelda fan, and often find myself wondering why we see her acting in the role of the ..."

"I recently completed Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii (expect the full review in the next issue of ONM, out on 12 February). What impressed me most wasn't the graphics or the gameplay - both of which are fantastic, by the way - but the storyline. It's the closest I've come to playing a movie on the Wii, and the plot's full of twists, turns and surprises."

"Just about ever video game franchise focuses on the adventures and trials of one or a few major characters within their respective universes. Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are the three individuals when applying this formula to The Legend of Zelda. These characters are the center of nearly all of the games in the series, with their roles differing slightly each time they appear. However, while we control Link, we encounter various side-characters that offer us help along our journeys in the land ..."

"Lets look at things objectively first. Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma have both staked claims that Link is you. It's often the reason given that if voice acting were to happen, no one wants Link to talk. Often times it the reasoning we have for him not having as much emotion as someone who is saving the world should have. Developer intent is that Link is us, so thus, he must be. Not so fast."

"I love boss fights in video games. Everyone looks forward to them, and they usually provide some of the funnest/hardest/most memorable bits of any game. They also usually have the best music, best cutscenes, and in general, they're a blast to play. But what makes a perfect boss battle?

Well as I said, great music helps a lot, and there has to be a perfect balance in the atmosphere. You have to be enjoying the fight, but at the same time be scared out of your wits that you could die at any ..."

"I’ve been scouring the Internet for months in search of a recipe for video game foods. It hasn’t been easy. The bakers and cake decorators who know how to create really amazing desserts don’t seem to want to share their cooking secrets, leaving me with recipes for companion cube cakes that look rather disgusting. So, inspired by my friends at Nerds Gone Wild! Magazine, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I decided to bake Triforce shortbread cookies."

Feel the Hatred: The Water Temple
Feel the Hatred: Zant (Twilight Princess)

-

Well, two bloggers from Destructoid have proclaimed hatred towards the Water Temple and Zant in the very popular Zelda series, two different games respectively.

Ok, so one is a lot stronger than the other but they both share a dislike. But is Zelda a bit lost in the dark? Or, are the bloggers just out of their depth and don't know what they're going on about?

"If we’re not jumping through hoops trying to save a kingdom, we’re fetching some rare Crystal Sword of Infinite Necromancy all out of the kindness of our hearts. What do we get in return? “Ah, gee thanks for risking life and limb to do a big ol’ fancypants favor for me and restoring our world to what it once was from the Dark Ruler of Naught. Here’s a medal, young adventurer. Never mind our bustling cleavage. Now get the hell out, street rat. Sorry ‘bout the hard-on.”

Whaaaaaa? Faster than..."

"On a personal note this was the hardest list I've ever attempted to write. All of these girls are villains in some way, with exception of the Horde. It was a ridiculous quest to find a female in a video games who wasn't attractive. And not just attractive, drop dead, unrealistically gorgeous. I hate to ruin a simple list like this, but why? Why are there no normal to ugly looking females, let alone fat ones. I mean I hate to break it to you people, fats real. People are bitching about how the..."

"The biggest problem with great games is how everybody is always jabbering on about how damn wonderful they are. Which got us thinking: surely even the very finest videogames must have the odd blemish on their flawless complexions, the occasional fly in an otherwise unspoiled tub of ointment?

Click below to see what really got GamerSquad’s goat in the likes of Goldeneye, Half-Life, Halo, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time."
