In this week's edition of The Catch-Up, Default Prime columnist Kyree Leary takes a nostalgic look at five PlayStation 2 games that he just can't bring himself to abandon.

Did you love Okami, because the team over at GameRabies sure did. So we fell into a tumble of cuteness when we saw this dog cleverly cosplaying the great Amaterasu. Will this make your day? Probably.

Video games feature many characters and beast. "Dog" characters is a common theme among some video games. In the link there's the top ten best video game dogs of all time. Check them out.

It was said that 10% of video game titles make up 90% of the industry's gross revenue. What about the other percentage of video games lacking a good name. Are they bad games? Have you ever played a game you loved that never once was advertised. Well check out this Top Ten List of Best Video Games that people never talk about.

An auteur is, in film, a director who maintains complete control over the creative process and infuses a distinct personal style in his or her works. A video game auteur is someone who manages to have games that feel distinctly theirs, with strong narratives, styles, and a loose adherence to typical conventions. They are people who create that certain kind of game you can't find by anyone but them.

"Crack open a gaming magazine or open up your browser window and go to a gaming site. What are you greeted with? There's probably scenes of frenzied action, exposed female anatomy, monsters, muscles, cars, and a smorgasbord of cool images. Gaming truly is a wonderful hobby and filled with a huge array of characters and stories being portrayed."

"It’s hard to deny the initial appeal of the Wii. Breaking barriers with a revolutionary motion controller, Nintendo’s flagship device not only returned the company into the minds of gamers after the slumps of the N64 and GameCube, it brought video games into the homes of non-gamers. Between Wii Fit and Wii Sports, plenty have found the joy of gaming over the last four years, but that is selling the system short. From 2006 to 2010, some great games have come to the little wagglebox, and from t..."

While everyone was busy gushing over Eitanya's plushified rendition of Garrus from Mass Effect, TK-Nation's Cassandra Khaw took it a step further and investigated the full extent of Eitanya's abilities.

Conclusion? She wants the Okami hat. Bad.

"ZeniMax, parent of Id Software and Bethesda Softworks, has just announced that they have just acquired Tango Gameworks, the studio directed by 20-year industry giant Shinji Mikami. Regarding the acquisition, Mikami had this to say..."

The PlayStation 2 library featured some of the most important games ever in terms of pushing the boundaries of video games as art. Here are five of the best.

When video games are designed to look a specific way, the visual style can often last well past the viability of a console. This article examines how developers create visually "timeless" graphics, as well as collects several of the most prominent examples.

According to Capcom's latest financial report, the company was disappointed with the sales of Okami (Wii) and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
However, they were pleased with the "satisfactory" sales of Monster Hunter 3, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite PSP the Best, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, and Mega Man EXE: Operate Shooting Star.

After compiling All Age Gaming's choices for the 10 best PS3 and Xbox 360 games, All Age Gaming's John Elliott delves into the library of games available for the Nintendo Wii and selects his Top 10 Wii games to date. Found out his choices after the jump.

"Folks, we are in the seventh generation of gaming and are being amazed by the raw power of the Playstation 3. There have been many people (including us) who are amazed at the technology behind the Cell processor and the massive storage space of the blu ray disc. All of us who have bought the Playstation 3 must have bought many blockbuster games along with it. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet and the more recent Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. But ..."

"Last time I collected NeoGAF’s great MS Paint renditions of video games, it was for a years worth. Someone decided to start the thread early, which is fine with me as a lot of great work from Junior Members of the board are now able to participate, along with some classic pieces from older members. Below are just my favorite picks, enjoy guessing which games they are from, and make sure to check the original thread which is still active on NeoGAF."

After a brief hiatus and a little tooling in the inner workings behind Binge Gamer, The Bender podcast is back with a tighter show. We hit up the piracy topic (ie the lines being drawn between downloading something versus selling something downloaded), talk a little about the Shadow Complex controversy, and of course how the G-Force demo is kind of cool. "A couple times over the past few years, we've decided to sit down and take a good, cold, hard look at the PlayStation 2's library and select the best of the best to let you know what our favorites were (and are). Even though the system is fighting with every last breath to stay alive, it's still surprising to us that new games continue to creep into our list. So, because it's been a while, we figured it was time to look at our picks again and update our choices for the best 25 PlayStation 2 g..."

"Most games usually require a lot of touch-up work during their development before they're ready for release. Usually it's nothing major. A haircut for the main character here, the occasional unintentionally offensive Arabic song removed there. Some games, though, go through more than mere cosmetic changes. The following collection of titles all changed drastically during their development cycles. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes not."

"Before you expect a bias answer to the question above, I adore both types of graphical output, and you could never get me to decide between the two. Since I have remembered, my choice of console games haven’t just lay within the simplicity of seeing if it is good or not, but also the visual feast too. This may not always be the best way to go shopping for games, but some masterpieces are idolised by their gameplay, story and design, and then by their graphical output; the two prime examples b..."

"Sorry for the late delivery on this one guys, I meant to have posted this way earlier in the week, but due to E3, we got bogged down on the site. So, as I said I would last, this edition of GMG is about underrated games and how they shamefully stay underrated amongst gamers. Let’s just take one example for the sake of it, Okami; a seamlessly beautiful game of the later-Playstation 2 era… Do we hear people talk about it or blog how they still love playing it? No, they don’t, which bring me to ..."

Wii and PS2 owners can now grab Capcom's artful game Okami for just 20 bones via their online shop. Considering it's "one of the most beautiful games ever made", you don't have much of an excuse, now do ya?

Here's a cuter top list for all the softer gamers out there. Bob Mackey of www.1up.com has put up a list of the top ten dogs of the gaming world!

"As goes with all creative works, there's nothing new under the sun. At least that's what they say.

Video games are no different. How many times have you played a game and asked "haven't I done this somewhere before?" And the chances are you probably have. A lot of great ideas are recycled again and again for countless reasons (mostly due to marketing, of course).

While some of these games parallel their respective host title, several actually managed to break away, finding their own suc..."

"Welcome to the fourth edition of The Twelve Games of Christmas; Electronic Theatre’s feature series highlighting the greatest performers of 2008, one month at a time! Today, we take a look at April 2008, the games that you liked, loved or missed altogether – and can probably pick-up for a much more reasonable price in those January sales!"

A fella by the username of spacecoyote on DeviantArt has shown his love for Barack Obama and Okami simultaneously with a piece of artwork.

The dude also has a thing for making "custom hand-painted zombie portraits" -- and it's actually really good. Check out the making of Obama and McCain -- zombified:

Stuck for buying a game this Christmas Wii owners? Be stuck no more! There's a great variety of games out there just waiting to be bought and played. The Christmas list is separated into four categories "bargains for the cheap, essentials to prevent embarrassment, socializers to bring everyone together and epics to log the hours". Each game has the name, a picture, price, rating and a description.

What will you buy this Christmas?

"If there’s one thing that videogames do well – perhaps more so than any form of digital entertainment around – it’s immersion. The ability to suck in an individual not just through giving them complete control over their actions, but more pertinently, through the surroundings and awe-inspiring sights developers painstakingly carve and sculpt. It’s debatable that this sense of captivation has only progressed, with more talented designers getting more out of increasingly powerful consoles. And ..."

Pelaajalehti.com recently held a poll for their people to decide the most beautiful video games of all time. Not all of the top ten received a warm welcome, with people believing many voters just chose their favourite or latest hype as opposed to the most beautiful games.

Is it your top ten?

IGN members Matt Casamassina, Mark Bozon and Lucas Thomas have compiled a list of the twenty Nintendo Wii games that every Wii gamer should own.

It's well structured listing the name, publisher, develop, whether it's Wii exclusive, an overview, a profile picture and a video.

The first game on the list is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the last is Excite Truck.

Most of the list is a listing of the most popular games around, however, some are quite surprising.

"Not surprisingly, there is speculation as to which platform(s) the studio's next project will be for. It seems that whatever the hardworking dev puts out next, it probably won't be on Wii, either.

The developer told us today, "We don't have a single Wii game currently in development since Okami."

When we asked if that meant it was safe to assume the team's working on something for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, we were told, "It's safe to assume we don't have a single Wii game curr..."

"Okami’s European release date has changed more times than we have our underwear since it was first announced, and the latest word says that the game’s launch has been moved forward by a week.

Originally penned in for release on June 13 in Europe, reports suggest that Capcom’s wondrous adventure title, and “the best game you never played,” will now be released on June 05.

That isn’t far off at all, but we wouldn’t be surprised if that date changes, oooh, three or four times before then. ..."

"The only Wii title that we can think of that has had anything close to the amount of speculation about its release in Europe as Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Capcom’s Okami. After months of rumour and one notable delay, it has today been confirmed that the Sony PlayStation 2 port will arrive in the continent on June 13.

Yep, Okami will launch in Europe just weeks before Super Smash Bros. Brawl, reports LiveWii, which at least gives you ample time to immerse yourself in the title that is being..."

What's going on at Capcom? Has someone lost the Okami concept art?

Capcom stole Okami artwork from IGN to use on their box-art. And now BradyGames has used an IGN image on the Okami guide. This time the watermark is even more obvious ...

"What is art? It’s a fairly straightforward question, yet it encompasses a limitless amount of correct answers. Art is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as the conscious use of skill and creative imagination, especially in the production of aesthetic objects. What happens then, when the physical aspect is removed?

The other day, I asked my friend’s father, one of the most level-headed people I know, if he considered film to be a form of art. I was hit with a rapid response confirming that ye..."

It appears Capcom's standards have fallen in recent years, no there isn't something wrong with Devil May Cry 4 or Lost Planet. The problem seems to be with Capcom's art division working on Okami for the Wii. It appears that rather than use one of their own pictures for the boxart they have taken to plundering IGN's image vault. Sure it's small and covered pretty well but when you look closely you can see IGN's logo

Got a craving for mystical wolf art? No problem, Capcom's got you covered with the Okami art page. Fans can find original artwork, submit their own work for a chance to be featured, download wallpapers, and participate in contests. Check it all out through the source.

"Originally set for release towards the end of this month in both North America and Europe (and following suspicion brought about by placeholders on major online retailers), Capcom has spoken out to confirm that the launch of Okami for the Nintendo Wii has been held back by three weeks until April 15."

"Capcom has today released the first official screenshots of its PlayStation 2 port of Okami for the Nintendo Wii. Unfortunately they’re a little (read: ‘a lot’) on the small side, but frankly we’re just pleased to see them at all, as no doubt many gamers will be too."

"Reports suggest Clover Studio’s spectacular action/RPG will not be appearing in PAL regions until some time in the summer. By direct comparison, lucky Wii gamers in the US will be able to snatch the game from retail shelves as early as March 25.

If true, this supposedly reliable insider information goes against Capcom Europe’s initial release projection for the region, which would place Okami in European stores before the close of spring."

When Okami first was announced for the Wii, everyone thought this would be a great addition to the Wii software library but after knowing it's a PS2 port, gamers have been flooding the Capcom forums saying not another PS2 port and other negative comments. Capcom did not ignore such opinions to be said through out the forum, Capcom actually retaliated. Capcom's senior director of strategic planning and research hit the forums and said that this isn't just a lazy PS2 port. Capcom selected Ready...

"Wii port or not, before I start, know: At the moment, Capcom has no concrete plans to make Okami 2, and nothing has been greenlit. However! Insiders tell us that Devil May Cry creator and Okami designer Hideki Kamiya really would like to make Okami 2. The Union Jack lovin' game creator is very interested in doing a sequel and has voiced this desire. Unfortunately, since the game is a Capcom/Clover title, it's not his decision to make. It's just something that he'd really like to do. What's mo..."
