Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers

"Videogames have long been a male-dominated hobby despite the fact that study after study shows a growing number of gamers are actually female. So why then is it that we see one horrible game after another being tailored to male gamers? We’re not talking about the action-packed warfare of Call of Duty and Gears of War. We’re not even looking in the direction of the intense and bloody goodness of God of War. Instead we’re looking at the shovelware that’s been heaved onto our game machines becau..."

Amazon.com put several Nintendo Wii video games on sale at the lowest prices ever available. Games on sale include MadWorld, Onechanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers, A Boy and His Blob, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree and several others.

"The premise of the game is pretty much identical to the Xbox360 release; players must travel through increasingly complex levels cutting through hordes of zombies, occasionally locating a key or other object to obtain access to a new area, and felling bosses. The game is controlled via the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, with the Analogue Stick controlling movement, A Button for jumping, C Button to change stance and motion control for those all important sword-swipes."

"D3Publisher have followed their generous offerings of complete Walkthrough Guides for Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard and Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad with yet another fantastic freebie. This time, it’s the turn of the recent Wii release Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers…"

A fair bit of hype has surrounded Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers, but is it all style and no substance? Gametrailers takes a look...

"However, it has long been myth that videogames featuring buxom young starlets cannot feature other redeeming qualities – few would knock Lara Croft’s first adventure, the Dead or Alive series has become a staple in the Beat-‘Em-Up genre and there’s quite a bit of anticipation building for the forthcoming WET. So what else does Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers have to offer the European Wii owner? Zombies, of course: and lots of them."

Electronic Theatre confirms the acquisition of D3Publisher by Bandai Namco Games, with a direct statement from D3Publisher. D3Publishers’ titles include Onechanbara, Puzzle Quest and Eat Lead.

Now here's a pretty good week -- looks like things are picking up following the holiday swing.

F.E.A.R. 2 is out for console and PC owners while Onechanbara treats Wii and Xbox 360 owners alike to hot bikini-clad girl zombie slashing; Deadly Creatures and The House of the Dead: Overkill provide Nintendo fans with some non-shovelware for a change, and PSP owners get LocoRoco 2, the only game really of note for the handheld in recent memory.

Enjoy, hmm?

Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers and its prequel Samurai Bikini Squad have been given a new release date for the Wii and Xbox 360, respectively: February 27.

The games are pretty much exactly what you'd expect, but to further illustrate, part of the description for the Xbox 360 title goes like this: "The sexy sister duo Aya and Saki use their swords and their hotness to defend their city against a legion of killer zombies." Charming, non?

Additionally, profiles for the games are now u...

The title of this news story is the censored title of an interesting new 'viral' ad video for the games Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (for the Wii) and Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad (for the Xbox 360).

Personally I thought this catchy song was great -- but a lot of the reactions I've read from this video have been negative. What do YOU think! Good, or bad? Hot girls, or gameplay? Dead -- or undead!

"New Yorkers with a thirst for blood covered cowgirls may want to free up their Friday night, as the movie adaptation of Oneechanbara—trailer here—has its "international premiere" at the New York Asian Film Festival later this week. It looks to have all the narrative density of an informational pamphlet but does feature school girl outfits and biker chicks fighting the undead.

"Ah, Onechanbara. Cowgirl, female flesh, zombies. It's like lightning in a bottle.

As you may or may not know, the hack n' slash series is being made into a live-action movie, of which this is the final theatrical poster. The film's due to open in theatres across Japan next week (April 26), and should go down a treat with fans of the games.
For everyone else, this poster does a pretty good job of setting the scene.
