"There’s a stigma in the gaming industry that a realistic simulation game has to be boring. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is here to challenge that notion. What it lacks in high intensity run and gun Call of Duty style gameplay, it makes up for in its tense, cinematic and fun experiences. If you’ve got the patience to approach the game’s 11 missions as the developers intended – you’ll find much to like here, but if you’d rather shoot first and ask questions later, you’re in for one frust..."

"If you thought ArmA II was the best war simulation ever then you’re probably not going to like Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising very much. However, if you thought ArmA II spent way too much time letting you run around as animals, had one too many glitches, and some of the worst AI you’ve seen yet all while being so frustratingly “realistic” you wanted to pull your hair out, then Dragon Rising is probably The game for you."

All Age Gaming's John Elliott takes a look at the realistic military simulation Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Being the first game of its type on the 360 and traditionally seen on the PC, how does it shape up? Read on to find out.

"Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is now available across Europe on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Though the first title received an Xbox conversion after initially releasing as a PC exclusive, when Codemasters originally unveiled the new identity of the Operation Flashpoint series, it came as quite a shock that the game was being developed with the intention on launching across multiple formats. Codemasters clearly believe there’s a market for a challenging Combat Simulator on consoles, ..."

"Heaven Media have announced the first ever competitive tournament for Codemasters’ first-person War Simulator, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Released today on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a challenging game in which every bullet counts."

"Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has proven one thing: I would not last long in a modern war. Not only would I die quickly, I'd die in embarrassing ways. Nobody remembers the heroics of the soldier that stuck his head up in the midst of a hail of gunfire or the idiot that ran out into the open field without checking for enemies on the perimeter. Keep your head down. Keep your adrenaline in check. These are the lessons you'll have to take to heart if you want to survive on the battlefield; ..."

"Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is modern combat in stunning detail. The game authentically recreates conflict in a 360-degree theatre of war, which enables players to approach objectives from any direction. On this realistic battlefield, where one bullet can kill, players face the fear and mortality felt by soldiers as they are challenged to survive the rapidly evolving situations of battle throughout the game's single and four-player co-op campaign."

"The island itself is beautifully detailed throughout it’s stunning 220 km2 area, with recognisable landmarks scattered throughout. The first mission tasks the player with assaulting the area located around a lighthouse (as a secondary objective), and many other such features exist throughout it’s landmass. The sheer range of terrain types is also fantastic, and more than simply an aesthetic change as with the knowingly bland Red Faction: Guerrilla. Skira provides Operation Flashpoint: Dragon ..."

"A sequel to Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, Dragon Rising centers on a fictional conflict between Russia and China over contested land. The Russians have called on the aid of the US Marine Corps to rid Chinese forces from the area.

"Did my monthly pass through my Official Playstation Magazine, and I was greeted with one relative surprise, and one thing that should surprise no one. First for the surprise, I mentioned this on the last show, I was reading a copy of Gamer Informer that one of my coworkers brought in, and got to their preview of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Their preview ended with a statement that said something along the lines of, boy this game has a long way to go in terms of polish, and frankly th..."

"The sounds in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising are very authentic,” explains Audio Lead Oliver Johnson. “We’ve strived to record every vehicle and every weapon in the game. We know how passionate people are about the game and how passionate they are about the sound in the game.”"

"Enemy intelligence is directly related to that of real-world properties. Take out one of a number of patrolling guards and the alert will be raised, sprint across a field in open daylight and it’s likely one or two enemies will begin trying – and often succeed - to take you out. While these experiences are commonplace in many modern FPS titles, for every measure of intelligence the enemies are capable of, the player has the necessary equipment and skills to overcome them. The most impressive ..."

"As a soldier in the US Marine Corps, fighting a fearsome enemy on the remote Pacific island of Skira, gamers face critical choices that will make the difference between life and death in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Using every ounce of their skill and resources, players must overcome the deadly Chinese PLA advance force that is claiming sovereignty over the oil-rich island and defuse a military flashpoint between two global superpowers that threatens to engulf the world."

"The island of Skira is a stunningly detailed and beautifully recreated oil-rich island. New screenshots from Operation Flashpoint 2 were released today at the 2008 GC Leipzig expo. The game looks to be shaping up nicely, with some very gritty graphics post-processing. Hopefully, they will keep the 'open design' of the campaign like the did in the first game. Adapt, improvise, and overcome!
